But this book wasn't confusing in any way as you would expect it to be, and for that I clap clap clap.(Insert clap clap clap here)Just a really great book!

Intrigue. Betrayal. Romance. Parrots. Looking for a story with that classic science fiction feel? Want humor too? Then this is the book for you. For Harry Watt, Bounty Hunter, simply doing what he's told was never an option. When the best hydrologist on Earth goes AWOL after first helping himself to some company funds, Judge Headlock, Harry’s employer and nemesis, instructs him to bring back the runaway to face justice. A trip to Mars onboard one of the new ships with the StrateLine Drive sounds like fun, but Harry soon discovers something stinks about this job, and it’s not one of his socks. He realizes he must first travel to Venus Station, but it’s not easy to be in two places at once. And getting framed for murder doesn’t help matters. So with the help of his dead partner, an erstwhile assistant, and a host of lady friends, Harry embarks on a rip-roaring ride through the Solar System in a bid to prevent a Martian civil war, and maybe earn a few credits along the way.

Review ***Amazon Bestseller*** 5 Star Review From Amazon Top 100 Reviewer"What becomes immediately evident in reading Rob's books is that not only has he a fine sense of imagination to create unusual stories, but that he accompanies that with a fine tuned sense of humor that is too often lacking in sci-fi novels and indicates that he may just have a strong hold on a fruitful career In his chosen genre."Grady Harp - Top 100 Reviewer, 5 Star Review. Reader's Favorite 5 Star Reviews"....Rob Guy has done a fantastic job in creating characters that his readers will relate to and connect with, not always an easy feat in a work of science fiction... Readers who enjoy science fiction, space adventures, a thrilling read, or just a great work in general should absolutely read this book."Tracy A. Fischer - Reader's Favorite "...This novel is a must-have for people who like a miss-mash of genres and love a hero who has sarcasm ingrained in his system. The relationship between him and his partner was hysterical... All in all, this is a great adventure that you will love; it will have you laughing out loud."Rabia Tanveer - Reader's Favorite  "....Rob Guy combines old-fashioned thrillers a la Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett with futuristic science fiction-and it works!... The book is very well written... All in all, Harry Watt, Bounty Hunter is a very entertaining little book that will appeal to fans of detective novels and science fiction alike."Raanan Geberer - Reader's Favorite "...Rob Guy did an excellent job in providing his readers with an intriguing storyline... Overall, this book is very entertaining and I recommend it to all lovers of science fiction."Valerie Rouse - Reader's Favorite

From the Author HelloI had great fun writing this book. Harry Watt will make you laugh (hopefully!) and maybe cry at times. I have many more adventures planned for Harry so watch this space!

From the Inside Flap .....It was at this point that the rest of the soldiers arrived outside the door, at least another six that Harry could count. "Wow, you really do have us surrounded. Twelve men plus a sergeant and a lieutenant to arrest two women, a baby and a semi-cripple. Congratulations lieutenant. Another successful sting." Heidi was beside herself. "Christ Harry, you've got balls." First lieutenant Gruber eyed them both, still hoping, apparently, that his hard stare would have its desired effect. "You are being sarcastic. I recognise that." "Well, risible certainly, I like to think" said Harry as calm as you like. Heidi's body was shaking with the attempt to prevent herself from committing all out laughter. "Ha! You and your fancy words." Gruber walked over to a bookshelf and ran a gloved finger along the wood. "Is there anyone else in the room?" he said, staring intently at the end of his fingers. "Look behind you," said Harry. First lieutenant Gruber spun round, poised like a mantis, karate chop at the ready, only to be confronted by the wall. That did it. Heidi collapsed back onto the pillows, laughing her heart out.

Its a must read!

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. science fiction and action By Robert This is a fun sci-fi novel with an interesting plot, lots of action and fun characters. The swashbuckling, jumping from place to place feel reminds me of Total Recall (original Arnold Schwarzenegger version), Star Wars' Han Solo, and maybe a little Alfred Bester "The Stars My Destination" or some of the campy Philip K. Dick short stories. When I say "campy", I mean it in a good way, as there is a lot of humor throughout to combat the "fantastic" component of this being a space opera. Bounty hunter Harry Watt is impersonated and framed for murder, has numerous romantic affairs, and runs around from Venus to Mars. I'd definitely recommend this if you're looking for something different and fun.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Fun and Fast By Cassandra Harry Watt, Bounty Hunter is an unusual and amusing foray into the world of science fiction. It reminds me of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in that there is a lot of humor and banter, although the writing style is different. The story flowed at a good pace, keeping me on my toes. I loved the use of language. It seemed that the dialog is a combination between the old and the new, which actually works really well for the story and the characters. This book was a fast read for me, but that’s not a bad thing. Instead, this is a good book to pick up if you want a break from reality for a little while and want to enjoy yourself along the way.

A Fabulously Important and Effective Book By The Wise Mann I read a lot of books every year, and some of those books would be classified as self-help books, some as spiritually related books, and some are books that help me in my professional life by giving me direction on how best to help my clients. This is the first book that I have read that falls into all three categories. Indeed, this book distinguishes itself by not only discussing important issues in these areas, but by emphasizing how the opinions Dr. Fond has developed can actually be applied from a practical point of view. Each chapter could have been the basis for an interesting and very helpful book in and of itself. If you can't read the entire book right away, I would suggest that you go straight to the chapter entitled "Overworked and Off-Track Soul." For me, that was the highlight of the book, and most helpful in my every day life. In short, this book is a fabulous resource for anyone interested in improvement and healing from a psychological and spiritual point of view.

Wonderful book to balance mind and soul By Deanne Levitt Everything will be OK is a first, in that it brings in the dual healing of traditional therapy for the mind and spiritual healing for the soul. Many of us veer towards one of these over the other, but the Author, Janna Fond, shows that we simply need to balance both of these. The author gives many varied examples from her own life or from others that instantly resonate with our own experiences of relationship issues, self-sabotage, fear, confidence, procrastination, and many more. Through her practical and spiritual advice we can see how to navigate our own lives more clearly. This is a gem of a book that we can all use to bring back the harmony of mind and the spirit in our complicated world.

Inspirational, encouraging, and very practical guidance for improving your relationships and your life. The real life examples from the author's practice are invaluable to cutting to the chase and applying to your own issues. The psychological and spiritual combination to improving your own lot in life makes so much sense - don't understand why it took so long to develop this approach - but thankfully for all of us that Dr. Fond has done it.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. "Mommy, can we go home now? I'm tired of coloring."Lainie Hollings fought back the nausea churning in her stomach and gently stroked her youngest daughter's hair. "Not yet, Chrissy. Why don't you use the green crayon for a while?"A weary sigh accompanied the nodding of the little head. Lainie watched her girls, six-year-old Natalie and four-year-old Christiana, as they scribbled on the pages the officer at the Dover Mississippi Police Station had given them to keep them entertained. They couldn't go home because they had no home to go to. Her job as assistant to Mrs. Forsythe, a wealthy businesswoman in Memphis, Tennessee, had ended when her employer had moved away for health reasons. Thankfully, Lainie had quickly landed the position as head librarian for the Dover Public Library.Today was their moving day. This morning, she had been filled with excitement and bursting with hope. This move marked the culmination of a dream she and her husband had once shared. They'd planned to leave Baton Rouge and its big city life behind and move to a small town where they could grow their family in a friendly, nurturing environment. They'd been saving for a house, but she had been forced to use the money for Craig's funeral instead. Alone and pregnant with their second child, she'd moved to Jackson, Tennessee to live with her mother and gone back to school at night to get her degree. The past five years had been difficult, moving from place to place, job to job. The librarian position was her chance to find a permanent home. So, they'd come to Dover a few days early to find a place to live and check into child care. It was supposed to be a fun trip discovering their new home. Instead, they were sitting in a police station, the victims of a crime. As they had been leaving a local restaurant, a man had shoved Lainie against her car, waved a gun in her face, then yanked her purse from her arm and fled. Thankfully, she'd already put the girls in the car. But all she had left were the car keys she held in her hand, and eight dollars and thirty-four cents—change from lunch, which she'd shoved into the pocket of her cotton slacks. The moment replayed in her mind like a scene from a horror film, tightening the vise of fear around her chest. She lowered her head into her hands, fighting to keep the rising panic at bay. How was she going to take care of her girls? Where would they stay? She'd set aside money for a motel, but now, without a credit card or cash, that was impossible. Tears welled in her eyes and she brushed them away quickly, not wanting the children to see her upset. But she was barely holding it together."Look, Mommy, I colored it purple." Chrissy's blue eyes sparkled from behind her glasses."Good job, sweetie."Looking at her precious girls, her throat constricted again. What if the thief had taken the car with the girls inside? What if he'd killed her? Lainie forced the terrifying thoughts aside. She couldn't give in to the fear. They were all fine, but destitute. She had no phone, no ID and no money. The only person she knew in town, Mr. Bill Ogden, mayor and president of the library board who'd hired her, was out of town for the weekend. They were on their own.Unless Shaw McKinney showed up.The knot in her chest grew. She clasped her hands together, squeezing tightly. While paying her bill at the restaurant, she'd noticed several business cards on display. One had a familiar name printed on it. Goudchaux McKinney Construction. Shaw McKinney, contractor. She'd picked up the card, the name unearthing anger and resentment she'd thought long buried. If it weren't for him, Craig would still be alive and her daughters would have a father. She'd shoved the card into her pocket along with the change. Shaw was the last person on earth she wanted to ask for help, but he was her only option. She'd given the card to the officer and asked him to call."Mommy, I have to go." Natalie wiggled in her chair.Chrissy looked up, pushing her tiny glasses up on her little nose. "Me, too."Lainie stood and looked around for her purse, wincing when she remembered it was gone. "Come on, girls."Lainie took their hands and walked down the hall to the restrooms. She tried to quell the nervousness swirling in her stomach as she helped Chrissy wash her hands. Maybe when she returned to the lobby, Shaw would be here. She didn't want to think about what they would do if he didn't come. Worse yet, what if he did? Turning for help to the man responsible for her husband's death was repugnant.Settling into the molded plastic chair again, she glanced toward the lobby entrance as yet another stranger walked in. She'd repeated this motion so often she now recognized the distinct squeak and swoosh of the door when it opened and closed. This time, it ushered in a gray-haired man carrying a large envelope."Mommy, can you draw me a rainbow?"Lainie took one of the crayons and drew arched lines across the paper. "What's Shaw doing here in Dover, Mississippi, anyway?""What, Mommy?""Nothing, sweetie. I'm just talking to myself." The last time she'd seen Shaw was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Craig had hired on with Beaumont Construction, determined to learn carpentry so he could eventually start his own contracting firm. Shaw had been his instructor, the one assigned to show him the ropes and keep him safe as he navigated the dangers of the job. But he hadn't, and Craig had died.Lainie pressed her lips together. They'd been sitting in the police station for two hours, filling out forms, answering questions. She had to face the possibility that Shaw might not come. He probably didn't remember her. She'd have to find another way to survive until she started her job next week. Maybe there was a homeless shelter in town. The idea made her sick. She'd worked hard the past five years to take care of her girls, and she'd done a decent job so far. But this wasn't the time to let pride stand in her way. Perhaps there was a church in town that could help. Their last resort would be to spend a few nights in the car until the mayor returned. Hopefully, he'd let her start work early or give her an advance to tide her over.Closing her eyes, she clasped her hands in front of her mouth. Lord, help me. I have no one. Nowhere to turn, but You. You've seen me through these past five years. Please don't abandon me now.Shaw McKinney ended the call and jammed his cell phone into his back pocket, grinding his teeth in exasperation. The drywall crew that was supposed to start today wasn't coming. Any more setbacks and this project might never be completed. He was already three weeks behind due to a series of unexpected delays. Thankfully, he'd obtained an extension, but the next deadline was set in concrete. Slowly, he walked through the old mansion. The 1885 house was one of the oldest in Dover and had been empty for the past dozen years. Thanks to an anonymous benefactor, the building, along with money for restoration, books and staff, had been donated to the town to replace the library, which had burned down five years ago.Shaw had won the contract. It had meant not only a financial boon to his new construction business, but a huge boost to his reputation. After leaving LC Construction a year ago and starting his own company, McKinney Construction, he'd made the classic new-bie mistake of overscheduling his projects. With the library job behind, he'd had to pull back on his other jobs because if this one wasn't done on time, he'd have to pay a hefty fine to the benefactor's foundation, one that could mean the end of his fledgling business. Shaw had factored in time for unexpected problems, but the old house had coughed up more than he'd bargained for."So, are they coming or not?""Not." Shaw faced his foreman and longtime mentor, Russ Franklin. The older man was the biggest asset to Shaw's start-up construction company. Skilled, experienced and dedicated, Russ had owned his own company in Alabama for years. When he had sold it, Shaw had convinced him to move to Dover to work with him. "Our drywall crew took another job. They couldn't wait on us any longer.""That's going to put us further behind.""How long would it take for you and me to do the work?" It was his last resort.Russ frowned. "Too long. We're way too close to the deadline as it is. You want me to find us another crew?"The knot in Shaw's chest, which had formed over the past few weeks, tightened. "Yeah. Call Laura Holbrook and see if she has a few guys we could use. Or maybe she knows of another contractor we can call. I've used up all my contacts."Russ moved off to make the calls, and Shaw planted his hands on his tool belt and scanned the large room that would be the fiction section of the new Dover Library. It would take several days to put up drywall, then tape, float and sand before they could paint. Days lost when other crews couldn't work. When Russ returned, his expression was grim."Laura doesn't have anyone to spare at the moment, and she doesn't know any other crews that are available."Shaw rubbed his jaw. He couldn't handle another delay. Dover had been without a library for a long time, unable to afford a new one. The donation had been a blessing to the small town and generated huge excitement from the residents. The people here had given him a home and a fresh start. He wasn't about to let them down. Even if he had to work around the clock to get the job done. His cell rang and he yanked it out of his pocket, frowning when he saw the name on the screen. Dover police. "Hello." He listened as the officer explained the situation. Shaw rubbed his forehead and nodded. "Yeah. I know her. I'll be right there." He hung up, his chest constricted so tightly he had trouble breathing. The last thing he needed was another complication in his life. And Lainie Hollings was a giant one.Hearing her name had unleashed a landslide of painful memories and a heavy dose of guilt. He'd started to deny knowing her. It would do neither one of them any good to meet again. But when the officer had told him she'd been robbed, Shaw couldn't ignore her plight. Lainie was a widow because of his carelessness.A death he could have prevented. He'd double- and triple-checked her husband's safety harness on the roof that day, only to find he'd loosened the straps again. Irritated with Hollings's cavalier attitude, Shaw had failed to check again, and Hollings had fallen from the roof. Lainie blamed him for her husband's death. Shaw accepted his part in the accident. He should have checked again. A dozen times if necessary. But he hadn't."Everything okay, boss?"Shaw looked at his foreman. Right now, nothing was okay. "I've got to leave. I might not be back today. Keep looking for a crew and check on the remodel on Corey Road. If we can get that job done, we can list it."Russ nodded. "And what about the Hanson remodel?"Another problem to add to the pile. "I'll have to push them back again." Russ frowned and Shaw held up a hand to halt the comment he knew was coming. The Hansons were beyond irritated. If he didn't find a way to soothe their ruffled feathers, it could get ugly. But that was the least of his worries now.Shaw climbed into his truck and cranked the engine, trying to figure out how he'd face Lainie Hollings. What did you say to the wife of the man you killed? The moment he stepped inside the police station, his attention was drawn to the dark-haired woman seated in the waiting area. His stopped in his tracks, his heart racing, the blood roaring through his ears. She was even lovelier than she'd been when he'd first seen her. That moment was indelibly etched in his mind. She'd come to the job site to bring her husband his lunch. They'd laughed and talked and shared little touches, and Shaw's heart had grown envious.Lainie had caught him watching her, and he'd felt a jolt like an electrical charge through his system. She was the prettiest woman he'd ever seen. She'd looked away and that's when the shame had tightened his throat. What was wrong with him? Admiring the wife of the man he was training was detestable. Shaw had gone back to work and vowed to keep his attraction in check.Realizing he was still standing in the doorway, Shaw squared his shoulders and stepped forward. Lainie was hunched in her seat watching two little girls as they scribbled on paper. Her dark brown hair was shorter now, falling in a sleek line to her shoulders. She glanced at him. In that moment, he noticed the sparkle was missing from her big brown eyes. Instead, he saw fear and anxiety. She looked fragile and alone. He was hit with a strong desire to pull her close and comfort her, but he didn't have the right. All he could do was offer his help. His attraction had no place in this situation. The door to the police station swooshed open again, but Lainie didn't bother to look.Shaw wasn't coming. She'd have to find help someplace else. Heavy footsteps on the floor drew her attention, and she looked up to see a tall, dark-haired man. He was dressed in faded jeans and a dark T-shirt with a company logo that hugged his torso in an interesting way. His sturdy, tan work boots thumped the floor as he strode toward them with a confident swagger. She started to look away only to realize who the man was. Shaw McKinney. She didn't remember him looking like this. He was taller, more imposing than she remembered. His shoulders were wide enough to carry the world. Her inspection moved to his ruggedly handsome face. Navy blue eyes. Deep lines in his cheeks. His sharply angled jaw was softened by firm lips and a dimple in the center of his chin. A flicker of appreciation darted along her nerves, squelched instantly with humiliation. How Shaw McKinney looked had nothing to do with the kind of man he was. His actions had cost her everything. His eyes bored into her as he came closer, and there was a grim set to his jaw. Her hopes faded. He wasn't any happier to see her than she was to see him. She shouldn't have called him. Asking for his help was a betrayal of her husband's memory. Natalie looked up at her with a sweet little smile, reminding her that she had to think of the girls first. She forced the nausea aside and raised her chin, clasping her trembling hands in her lap."Lainie, are you all right?" He glanced at her then down at the girls, his forehead creasing in a deep frown.Stupid question. No, she wasn't all right. She stood. "I'm fine. Thank you for coming. I'm sorry to bother you, but there was no one else to call.""You did the right thing." He motioned her to be seated.Shaw stared at the girls, a shadow seeming to pass behind his eyes. Was he feeling guilty? Good. Her conscience pricked, but she ignored it, sinking into the chair as her knees began to fail.

A Great Romance Filled with Conflict and Characters to Root For By Julie Arduini I really enjoyed this book because it took an interesting plot and ran with it. Lainie is a widow with two young daughters trying to make a fresh start. She's barely made it to the town line before trouble starts and it doesn't let up. Everything that can come against her does. The hardest thing? The man Lainie feels is responsible for her husband's death is the only one available to help her. That sets up immediate conflict and I loved that.I also loved the conflict. As an author I've learned our job is to give each scene, each chapter an action and reaction. Keep the conflict. Raise the stakes. Bachelor to the Rescue is a great model of how this is done.By the end of the book I felt like I knew Lainie, Shaw, the girls and the townspeople. It was a fast read and a very satisfying one. Bachelor to the Rescue belongs in your beach bag for your summer reading.I received Bachelor to the Rescue from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

By PennyMindingMom Love Inspired® books are faith-based books that are filled with wholesome stories and values, unlike so many of the romance novels that grace the store shelves today. Lainie and Shaw both share a hurtful past, a past neither one believes they can get over. God has different plans. Plans of forgiveness, commitment and most of all love.I was taken to a small town of Dover where I felt I was there watching Shaw and Lainie wrestle with their personal struggles of acceptance, humility and forgiveness. There were a few times where I found myself giggling over sweet embraces between these two.I loved the characters, even Millie. My first thought of her was that she was a snotty bitty, but by the end of the book I loved her. There were a few unexpected surprises and of course though it all I was wondering “How is this going to end?” or “What is God going to do next.”Great Read.I received a complimentary copy of "Bachelor to the Rescue" in exchange for this honest review, I was not compensated for this review.

All equally good books but I had to start somewhere so I chose one at random. I'm glad I picked Bachelor To The Rescue first, it's about a librarian and the Friends of the Library play a big part in some important scenes. Now, I love librarians but I am also a Friend of the Library so this book was a little extra special.Lorraine Beatty has written a sweet romantic tale of love, forgiveness, and moving on. Tragedy binds Lainie and Shaw, circumstance brings them together. Forgiveness can mean the world to them both.Sweet story, perfect for an evening when you want a light read with a happy ending. Read Bachelor To The Rescue to find out what happens when you mix two little girls, a willing dog, a princess club, and a guy who can't say no...(I received a copy of this book from FlyBy Promotions in exchange for my review. The Fog Diver, by Joel Ross

From School Library Journal Gr 4–6—It's been years since the formation of the deadly Fog that drove the last people from the surface of the Earth. The only remaining humans live in towns high in the mountaintops. With few resources, it's a hard life. For a slum kid like Chess, working on a salvage airship is the best way to keep from starving. As his ship's tetherboy, Chess must dive into the Fog and recover relics from Earth that can be traded for food for his crew. Most tether boys don't last a year. Those who avoid the Fog sharks eventually succumb to Fog sickness in the end. All except Chess. For Chess, the Fog never hurts. Chess's deepest secret is that he was born in the Fog, and it has marked him. His whole life, Chess has kept his head down and avoided notice. Now things are changing. Mrs. E., Chess's guardian, is dying of Fog sickness, and Chess and his friends must race against the clock to get her to the cure. Unfortunately, the greedy Lord Kodoc has found out about Chess's affinity for Fog and has made other plans. With plenty of action, and characters who are as precocious as they are prodigious at their airship duties, this is a fun beginning to a unique new series. An abundance of pop culture references gone hilariously wrong add appeal for reluctant readers. Oh, and there are air pirates! VERDICT A solid choice for fans of adventure series or speculative fiction.—Liz Overberg, Darlington School, Rome, GA

Review “Ross wastes no time with his worldbuilding, establishing Chess and his crew as a misfit found family working the Fog by day and sharing stories by night. It’s a fresh approach, reminiscent of Dickens…the only thing missing is a sequel, which readers hope won’t be far behind. ” (Kirkus Reviews (starred review))“With plenty of action, and characters who are as precocious as they are prodigious at their airship duties, this is a fun beginning to a unique new series. An abundance of pop culture references gone hilariously wrong add appeal for reluctant readers. Oh, and there are air pirates!” (School Library Journal)“Complex, lovable characters; a magical, dangerous world; and a struggle to survive against overwhelming odds. I couldn’t put it down!” (Sage Blackwood, author of the Jinx trilogy)“Fast-paced and clever, filled with brave, talented characters—my favorite! It’s a classic adventure novel with a postapocalyptic flair and witty reimaginings of modern folklore.” (Merrie Haskell, author of The Castle Behind Thorns)

From the Back Cover

A deadly white mist has cloaked the earth for hundreds of years. Humanity clings to the highest mountain peaks, where the wealthy Five Families rule over the crowded slums and rambling junkyards. As the ruthless Lord Kodoc patrols the skies to enforce order, thirteen-year-old Chess and his crew scavenge in the Fog-shrouded ruins for anything they can sell to survive.

Hazel is the captain of their salvage raft: bold and daring. Swedish is the pilot: suspicious and strong. Bea is the mechanic: cheerful and brilliant. And Chess is the tetherboy: quiet and quick . . . and tougher than he looks.

But Chess has a secret, one he's kept hidden his whole life. One that Lord Kodoc is desperate to exploit for his own evil plans. And even as Chess unearths the crew's biggest treasure ever, they are running out of time.

Joel Ross creates a thrilling and action-packed adventure in a future in which living in the sky is the new reality and a few determined slumkids just might become heroes.

By Evie Seo First off, I have to say that I expected something entirely different from what The Fog Diver ultimately turned out to be. I went into this book thinking this will be something along the lines of The Maze Runner, only instead of the maze we'd have the fog. I thought the majority of the plot would be spent in the fog, but though the lead character is a fog diver, he spends very little time actually diving in the fog (we're talking maybe 10 pages total). I kind of had this idea that this book would be about exploring the fog, fighting the dangers lurking inside it, maybe getting trapped down in the fog covered areas and racing against time, trying to stay alive. I don't really know what I imagined exactly *shrugs*, but it definitely wasn't what I got. The majority of the plot plays out while the characters are flying around on their air-raft, trying to escape mutineers and lord Kodoc, or get from one place to another. Chess is a freak. He was born in a cage, down in the fog, and he has one fog-filled eye to always remind him of the fact. The fog is actually not just some meteorological anomaly, it's a cloud of nanites, designed to fix the smog covering the Earth. These nanites were meant to heal the Earth and keep it clean, but they took the cleaning process to a whole new level, deciding that the human race is the source and cause of pollution, and, therefore, humans have to be kept out. The fog attacked humans, killing millions and driving the rest of them up to the highest peaks of Earth, where they were forced to live above the fog level. Chess and his crew are scavengers, searching the fog for anything that could be salvaged and then sold (usually for food and clothing). Chess is, of course, the diver. He is the one who goes all the way down to look for anything valuable. His nanite-filled freak-eye somehow protects him from the fog-sickness. As it turns out, his "freakiness" is no accident. He was "made" this way by lord Kodoc, who wanted someone he could use to find the machines that control the fog. Because, if you control the fog, you control the world. And now Kodoc is after Chess. This was a good story that moved along at a nice, even pace. I thought Chess was an interesting character and the supporting cast was strong, too. I liked the diversity and how each of them was so unique. Chess is only 12, which supports my theory that this is most likely a middle grade novel (GR doesn't specify the age level, I initially made the assumption that this was a YA novel, but the writing is more fitting for Middle Grade crowd). It's most definitely an entertaining story, filled with good-natured humor (lots of little pop culture anecdotes that will make you chuckle), amusing dialogues, fast-moving action and mostly unexpected twists. I think it's a great book for young boys, particularly those who happen to be reluctant readers. The writing is easy to absorb, mostly dialogue-based and it should keep them captivated. It was a little bit too immature for me, but I still enjoyed it quite a lot.

Martin THE FOG DIVER is a post-apocalyptic science fiction story that is filled with action and adventure. It is also the story of four orphans who are on a mission to save the woman who took them in and made them into a family.Chess, Bea, Swedish, and Hazel work together to scavenge things they can use or sell from the Fog that covers everything except the highest mountain tops. They need to find a big haul in order to sneak Mrs. E to Port Oro where there might be a cure for her fogsickness. However, they need to battle the Fog, mutineers and the evil Lord Kodoc who wants Chess. The Fog is composed of nanites that were created to clean up pollution on the Earth. After they did that, they were supposed to die. But the nanites learned to create other nanites and decided that humans were the cause of the pollution. No one can go down into the Fog without becoming infected with the nanites and dying. Chess is an exception. He was born in the Fog and can survive in it. He was born with one eye that has the Fog visible in it. He has been hiding his difference for all of his thirteen years. Now Lord Kodoc, who thought he didn't survive, has found out that he is alive and is searching for him. Lord Kodoc wants Chess to search the Fog for a machine that will let Kodoc end, or control, the Fog. Scientists from Port Oro, a place that rebelled and is fighting against Kodoc's rule, also wants Chess. They also want that machine.I loved the airships that the kids use to scavenge. They had a very steampunk feel. I also loved the relationships between the kids with Hazel the leader, Swedish the pilot, Bea the engineer, and Chess as the explorer. While this is clearly the first book in a series, readers will be pleased that the ending is not really a cliffhanger but still leaves lots for our characters to do in future books.

Brantley Bookworm Speaks! The Fog Diverby Joel Ross****The Story: Once the Fog started rising, the earth was covered with a deadly white mist until nothing remained but the mountaintops. Now humanity clings to its highest peaks, called the Rooftop, where the wealthy Five Families rule over the lower slopes and floating junkyards.Thirteen-year-old Chess and his friends Hazel, Bea, and Swedish sail their rickety air raft over the deadly Fog, scavenging the ruins for anything they can sell to survive. Yet the ruthless Lord Kodoc is hot on their trail, for Chess has a precious secret, one that Kodoc is desperate to use against him. Now Chess will face any danger to protect his friends, even if it means confronting what he fears the most. The Review:The most memorable aspect of this book is the world that that the author builds. It takes place in the future where air pollution was choking the life out of the world so they tried to use nanotechnology to fix it. Guess what happens next! It gets out of hand and the world is destroyed and the survivors are forced to congregate on mountain tops.Similar to the Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve, while this technically is a post-apocalyptic tale, there a great many steampunk elements: Airships, goggles, brass pistons, all that good stuff. Throughout the text we are given references to the technological expertise of the past age and we see that their original functions have passed from memory. The television or teevee is regarded as an altar that the people of the past worshipped. Not too different from today! There is also a reference to iPads but now they are used as decorative objects.Turn to any news source and one will probably find a story about the latest gadget or the dawn of space-age nano tube technology. That is all well and good but if the end of the world we know were to dawn those things will quickly fall away and it will be back to leather, steel, and gears.Nothing like the basics. The passing of time is also ingeniously introduced through the dialogue and slang used by the main characters. Again, similar to the Mortal Engines, present day terms have become muddled and misidentified in the new world. Dairy Queen and Burger King are regarded as religious icons. Spelling Bees and Hello Kitties are regarded as real animals from myth. Our present day culture is so immersive that one can fall prey to the illusion of perpetuity but history has shown that once the infrastructure breaks down and generations who remember original purposes pass, the once ubiquitous cultural norms break down. While most likely played for laughs, it is a commentary on the transient nature of things and also an interesting way at how quirky the world after the world will be.As ingenious as the setting is, the story does fall prey to plot elements that can seem very familiar to readers of this genre. The protagonist, Chess, follows many familiar tropes: The orphaned, teenaged protagonist with the special ability that makes him very valuable and pursued by the evil overlords. Sounds quite familiar to any patron of YA fiction.Aside from the that hiccup, the colorful cast of characters is extremely entertaining and provide the heart of the story. Major Kudos to the author for making the captain of the airship, Hazel, a dark skinned woman. Its probably counterproductive to make such a big deal, but it deserves credit. The other cast of characters is very diverse and provides a lot character.Swedish is the tough pilot of the ship and serves as the muscle of the crew while in port.Bea is the young mechanic who is very innocent and loves stories (flawed ones) about the world that came before. Something Bookworm has noticed is how in a lot of fiction, the engineer is always a perky, young girl a’ la Firefly. Bookworm does not see anything wrong with that mind you, but it risks becoming cliched. Writers need to watch out for this. What also needs to be watched out for is how in some parts the book tends to drag, mostly because the character’s suffer a little too much. They experience a few to many setbacks and it starts to get a little dull, even between the thrilling action scenes. (Very well crafted ones at that). They do a lot of things but seem to make very little headway. Suffering is a critical part of any character development but there’s a fine line between inflicting suffering on your character and making them the living incarnation of Murphy’s Law.Final Verdict: The Fog Diver is a wonderful book with a novel look at the future and a stunningly crafted setting. What is very satisfying is that while this book will most likely be the first in a series, it ends on a note that wraps things up satisfactory. It does not fall victim to sequel bait, as in ending on cliffhanger. So, if ultimately there is no new book, which Bookworm hopes there is, it was wrapped up nicely.Four out of Five Stars.****thecultureworm.blogspot.com

A classic hero's journey set in the modern day, Last Call blends elements of science fiction, fantasy, philosophy, spirituality, celebrity culture, and conspiracy theory to weave together a unique mythology that reflects the experience of living in the 21st century. Travel with Jean-Luc Chippewa Burns throughout time, space, heaven and hell as he attempts to realize the True Nature of his existence and save his home planet from a mysterious looming catastrophe. From the Reviews: "'Last Call' is an easy and delightful read, like drinking water. The libation is an elixir of ideas, facts, and insights which one can imbibe and make part of one’s own existence as we search for a positive ‘path’ on this odyssey in which we all find ourselves." "If you are exploring your own life's journey, this is a book that will draw awareness to all this is, ever was, and ever will be. The dichotomy of oneness and individualism is artfully expressed with a twist of Eastern wisdom." " This book is so unique and written in a way that made me feel like I was travelling through outer space, the heavens, and planet earth all at the same time while dreaming. Sam McLeod's descriptions were so well done that I could almost hear, smell, taste, and touch everything he was writing about. It's a real talent for a writer to make a reader be able to use all the senses only while reading." "This is probably the weirdest book I've read in quite a while, but in a good way."

Last Call: A Vision-Dream For 2016 And Beyond, by Sam McLeod

About the Author Sam McLeod is a teacher of English and student of life, a scholar and a gentleman, avid reader and writer, a father and son, a brother and friend, a novelist and poet-warrior, and a proud native of Virginia. He has studied kungfu in the immortal Wu-Tang Mountains and once only barely lost to Stephen Curry in a game of beirut. Lover of Nature, dreamer, Romantic, mystic, scaler of peaks, parter of clouds, wordsmith, world traveler, aspiring alchemist, and perpetually underestimated on the basketball court: Sam believes there is no nobler pursuit in life than seeking to uncover the highest mysteries of our universe. He believes we as humans are defined more by the very existence of love, compassion, and our potential towards the Good than the perceived lack of it we see in the world around us.

A delightful and rewarding journey By Charles W Sutherland Reading 'Last Call' is like travelling with a friend on a pleasant reflective journey through the mountains and valleys of philosophical thoughts and personal emotions. Along the way, both intellectually and geographically, one encounters a variety of people. Through them various kinds of relationships affect one’s personal development, whether the relationships are maintained and strengthened or allowed to evaporate. Such also is life.Travelling with the central character, one also learns about oriental philosophy, many detailed techniques of the martial arts, and the ‘eastern’ perspective, in particular the ‘way’ or ‘path’ of Daoism. While reading, sometimes one feels lost, wondering where we (or the ‘friend’) are going, or why. While occasionally disconcerting, that’s also the nature of any journey, philosophical or geographical.'Last Call' is an easy and delightful read, like drinking water. The libation is an elixir of ideas, facts, and insights which one can imbibe and make part of one’s own existence as we search for a positive ‘path’ on this odyssey in which we all find ourselves. The author has done a good job, particularly for a first novel.

It's this incredible blend of spirituality, philosophy, and real life too. John is just a regular guy like someone you might know, which makes it very easy to relate to his character. He winds up on this magical, mystical journey of a lifetime. I don't even know how to really describe it. I thought it might be mostly an end-of-days story, but it's really more like a quest for spiritual awakening. The writing is good, I mean REALLY good! I felt like I was swept up in the story and in the character's experiences. There's just the right amount of humor, and the character development is great. Well edited too, very impressive for a debut novel.

Deep, complex journey that gives you a lot to think about By Kitty Smith This apocalyptic tale combines everything from government conspiracy to aliens to ancient prophecy. It's an ambitious undertaking, blending so many different players like this, but it works. As the story begins, main character Jean-Luc Chippewa Burns is a man without a mission. Fresh out of a stale relationship, his life seems to have been mired in a rut of mediocrity for a long time. He's the last sort of guy anyone would look at and see as a hero. When his boss hooks him up with a freelance assignment to Rome to report on the chaos that seems to be taking over there, he still might have said no, content to remain mired in his comfy rut. Thankfully there's some disturbing dreams, a new hire by the name of Genny with a G, and an unpleasant surprise from Willa, on hand to convince him to get on his feet at last. Although, as he wryly observes, if the fate of the world depends on him getting out of bed, we’re all pretty f'ed.The story takes you, and John, on a wild romp around the globe. From mastering useful phrases in Mandarin such as "hi pretty girl" to learning what the first flower of the Buddha's meant, his journey is complex and exciting, and takes him to places he never imagined existed. Some of those places quite spiritual and mystical, while others are dark ones indeed, but he will have to travel them all in his quest to attain enlightenment and discover his true nature, as well as save the planet. The writing really brings the story to life with vivid description, and the suspense is a killer. Def one of those stories that gives you a lot to think about afterwards, and a great book to get lost in for days on end.

Young, gifted and Black from Brooklyn, NY!!A great inspiration to parents and children in the inner city. The system may take away funding from your schools, etc., but parents can teach their children and instill in their children a drive to do their best-and they will be successful. Ms. Anaya is very well spoken and poised, a lovely young lady. Children don't have to look outside of their homes for role models-Ms. Anaya's parents are great role models for their daughter-teaching her to read at a young age and fostering a love of literature-Ms. Anaya spoke of her favorite books, including President Barak Obama's Dreams from My Father. Our children are never too young nor are we ever too old to gain an appreciation for learning & literature.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. understanding how to deal with a sociopath By Tracy Armstrong This book fascinated me. This book does in fact provide an extremely incisive look into the mind of sociopath in a throughly engaging and well-written narrative. I realized after reading this book and doing some research that I have a sociopath in my life, my sister. All joking aside, reading this book I truly did feel like I was partially reading about my sister. Selfish. Successful, she can be charismatic and loveable when she chooses, she likes relationships on her terms, she thinks of herself first, she loves albeit selfishly, she is not truly empathetic and rarely shows grief. That said she is one of my favorite humans on the planet and no one can make me laugh like my sister but after reading Anna Bell's book, I think I have an understanding of my sister and why she is the way she is. I think it actually makes it easier to love her too.

Terribly flawed treatise in broken English By Cheryl This book is written in broken English and contains many mistakes that a good proof reader would have caught. But that is not the main problem with this book. The author says that sociopaths and psychopaths are TREATABLE. This gives false hope to the family of such individuals. And astoundingly, the author includes a "self test" so you can determine if YOU are a sociopath or a psychopath. As if! It is not the sociopath or psychopath who will be reading this book but their poor victims, usually family members who are grasping at straws trying to explain away the evil that is in their midst. I cannot recommend this book. It is terribly flawed. And that is my professional opinion as a physician. No where in this book can you find Anna Bell's credentials. I suspect she hasn't any.

Interesting Insight Into Sociopath Mental Illness By AJ We all deal with sociopaths from time to time, both in our professional and personal lives and most of us do not know how to identify or deal with it. I got value from this learning to identify socio-pathological behavior. This book is an interesting read for anybody wanting insight into the psychology behind mental disorders and specifically sociopaths. I would have liked more in-depth insight for dealing with sociopaths, but overall a good read.

Sometimes we want to make changes in our lives, but we just don’t know where to start. I know for me, it’s really easy to see all the areas I’m failing miserably. I desire to do what it takes to move in a better direction, but I’m overwhelmed by the magnitude of what actually needs to be done. Basically, I know something needs to change, but I just don’t know where to start. Can you relate? I think we’ve all been there from time-to-time. The answer to digging ourselves out of chaos is to sit down and make a clear plan of action. I think too many of us let life pass us by, never considering that what we do today can have a profound impact on tomorrow. Or we’re caught in survival mode, in a season of being so overwhelmed we have no idea how to dig our way out. THE GOOD NEWS IS IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Organized living By R. De Reamer I read this book after watching a clip on making a prayer journal by the author. While she does offer many good suggestions, I can see where some people could become so bogged down by the suggestions, that they might forget the real reasons for organized living. That reason is to live for Christ. I say pick and choose what works for you and add bits of yourself in the mix. Make your journal workable for you.
