Are you trying to find love – and beginning to suspect you’re not looking in the right place? This wise, hip guide gives you a new map for the journey to happiness in relationships of all kinds, starting in your own heart.

Told from the alternating vantage points of authors Meggan Watterson and Lodro Rinzler, How to Love Yourself (and Sometimes Other People) reminds us that love isn’t something we have to earn. All of us are deeply and intrinsically worthy of love – not only the love we hope to receive from others, but the love we give to ourselves – and this book offers the insight and practical tools we need to stay firmly grounded in self-love as we ride out the natural (and often stormy) cycles of relationships.

Meggan and Lodro’s unique perspectives as teachers and scholars of Christian mysticism and Buddhism respectively make for a rich and lively dialogue that draws on wisdom sources like the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and the Four Noble Truths, along with funny, revealing stories from their own love lives and their deep friendship with each other. You’ll find guidance for embracing single life, dating with an open heart, and thriving in lasting love; meditations and practices for calm abiding, “disciplined hope,” and connecting to the source of love within you; and tips on everything from sex, self-worth, and nourishing friendships to navigating breakups and learning to truly love yourself. Ultimately, you’ll be able to see your ideal partner in a new light – not as someone who “completes” you, but as someone who mirrors back to you your own wholeness.

How to Love Yourself (and Sometimes Other People): Spiritual Advice for Modern Relationships, by Meggan Watterson, Lodro Rinzler

Review “How to Love Yourself (and Sometimes Other People) is a modern-day guide to all things relationship— starting with numero uno—yourself. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like more love in their life. And last time I checked that was everyone on the planet.”

— Christiane Northrup, M.D., New York Times best-selling author of Goddesses Never Age

“How to Love Yourself is one of the best books I’ve read on the topic of relationships. This book translates life-changing spiritual principles in a hip and relevant way. Meggan and Lodro offer the most treasured gift; a pathway to learn to love yourself no matter what. I recommend this book to anyone ready to give, receive, and embody love.”

— Gabrielle Bernstein, New York Times best-selling author of Miracles Now

“This is a new kind of self-help book. There is no perfection and pontificating here—just the beautiful, messy, and wonderful truth about love, shared with great generosity. While both authors are deeply steeped in their mutual wisdom traditions, their greatest teachings are in the personal stories they share. No matter what is (or isn’t) happening in your life, Lodro and Meggan help you to see that your whole life is your love life.”

— Susan Piver, New York Times best-selling author of The Wisdom of a Broken Heart and Start Here Now

“How to Love Yourself is an illuminating look at love—a quality hard to figure out even as we are taught that it makes the world go ‘round. The book is wise, useful, and also great fun to read. Lodro, from his long-term Buddhist practice, and Meggan, with her Christian mystic background, offer different ways of viewing love as the force that frees us to truly be ourselves, and be happy.”

— Sharon Salzberg, author of Lovingkindness and Real Happiness

“The great thing about Lodro and Meggan writing a book about love is that you get perspectives from both a down-to-earth Buddhist dude, and a hot female mystic—AND!—double the jokes and love stories. The result is a lot of truth and modern wisdom on how to expand your capacity to love—in suffering, in sex, in separation, in spirit, in your very real life that could always be filled with more love.”

— Danielle LaPorte, New York Times best-selling author of The Desire Map and The Fire Starter Sessions

“I so wish I had read this book when I was 18 and just starting out in the dating world. It would have saved me a lot of trouble and a boatload of Kleenex. Meggan and Lodro are not only totally sane in their approach to relationships, they’re also practical and hilarious. This page-turner will most assuredly crack you up, but more importantly, it will ease your path to finding the love of your life, whether that turns out to be someone else or the person staring back at you when you look in the mirror.”

— Kate Northrup, best-selling author of Money, A Love Story

“I am so grateful the universe shifted and brought both Meggan and Lodro together to share this sacred work. Loving yourself is no easy task but it’s the most rewarding lesson. How To Love Yourself (and Sometimes Other People) is a manual that helps you dive deep into the cave of your own heart so you can become your own beloved. This step-by-step guide helps you crack open the most auspicious part of you so that you can walk safely in love. If you are ready to courageously leap out of fear and into unconditional love, this is the book for you.”

— Kyle Gray, best-selling author of Angel Prayers

“Meggan Watterson and Lodro Rinzler have written a modern-day spiritual ‘he said, she said’ as they guide us along the path to loving ourselves fiercely, ultimately giving way to loving others and being loved. Intimate, entertaining, provocative, and revealing, How To Love Yourself (and Sometimes Other People) is for all seekers of self-love and self-acceptance. Give your heart a gift and immerse yourself in the wisdom and lessons this book has to offer—you just may find love where you least expect it.”

— Nancy Levin, best-selling author of Jump . . . And Your Life Will Appear

“How To Love Yourself (And Sometimes Other People) has real modern gems in it, and the down-to-earth and complementary voices of its authors, Meggan and Lodro—both young experts in their own spiritual fields—leaves you feeling like they are totally present with you as you read these pages. What really helps us to navigate love is a good conversation with trusted friends, friends who don’t judge us, friends who actually know what they are talking about. Meggan and Lodro both show their ability to be those friends, to themselves, to each other, and to us as we read along.”

— Ethan Nichtern, author of The Road Home

“Looking for love? Well, stop. Seriously, the search is over. Meggan and Lodro remind us that love is right here, within. There’s nowhere we need to go or some better version of ourself we need to become. How To Love Yourself is that slap to the forehead that we all can use. This beautiful gem reminds us that we are love and therefore we don’t need to wait for a partner to find love. We can get that party started right now––and then a partner can swing in and join us on this wild adventure of loving ourselves. No stress. No expectations. Just love.”

— Kris Carr, New York Times best-selling author of Crazy Sexy Diet and Crazy Sexy Kitchen

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Highly recommended if you want to strengthen love By David Mynchenberg Who wouldn't benefit from hearing about how to love themselves? I love this book. Simply put. I'm recently going through a break up and it has comforted my soul. It's like a conversation with each of the authors; one author shares their piece of each chapter's subject, like how to love being single, and then the other author shares their experience and nugget of understanding. The only thing I do not like about it is the chapters relatively short and I'd love to hear more of what these authors think-however I could read their other books if I want more. Both are amazing people who are easy for me, a 29 year old male, to relate with.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. perfect timing By Jessica Creech This is just the spiritual dating advice I needed at just the right time! Both authors translate Buddhism and Christian mysticism into simple practices to enrich your relationship with your highest self so that you might flourish more freely in the world with others. I have been deeply inspired by Watterson's work for years and I love this book concept, style and delivery. When I was finished I had clear action plans for cultivating a better relationship with myself and how to practice healthier boundaries, non-attachment, and better loving kindness with others.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. wonderful By Nathalie Desjacques I highly recommend this book. I read the first chapter on an Italian train, on my way to spend one day in Venice on my own with a broken heart, feeling curious and a bit anxious at the same time about such an experience. I spent one of the most beautiful day of my life... there is magic in this book, good, simple magic that makes you connect to unconditional love.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Great alternative to Harry Potter and vampires, etc. By A Scott I first checked these out at the public library. As soon as I finished the first one, I ordered the whole set for my nine-year-old grandson. He reads above grade level and, while not the type of book that he usually reads, I think he will enjoy them. Gives kids a fairly realistic look at a career that many wouldn't even consider at age 9. And if John Grisham wrote it, could it be a disappointment?

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent reads. My kids are in 5 By Tyty Excellent reads. My kids are in 5,6,&7th and they all have read them and loved them even my daughter who is the oldest. I thought she might not like them but she did and have read all 4. She said it's not hard words used so she understands it. And there is plenty of action.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. but I do enjoy these books By Olivia OK, I'll be honest here. I am an adult, but I do enjoy these books. My father and I were going on a road trip a few years back, and since he likes the author, he just grabbed the 1st book of the series from the library to listen to (not realizing it was for kids). We both enjoyed listening to the first one during our trip (mind you my Father is about 60). Now, I always borrow one when I am planning on a long drive, provided there is a new one to listen to. I would definitely recommend for kids, or for families who are going on a road trip.

Lol there's Zombies, it's kind of awesome to be able to write about brain eaters and have fun doing it. Took no time to read, I was pulled right in.

Williams This is a great short story any fan of the Walking Dead would enjoy. I love the twist the author gives to the lead character, Cat. She is definitely not your typical spoiled rich kid! I truly hope the author expands on this story as it has so much potential.

Ice Kissed (The Kanin Chronicles), by Amanda Hocking

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Hocking's fantasy novel allows readers to get lost in the secret world of Kanin yet again. This sequel to Frostfire (St. Martin's, 2014) follows Bryn Aven as she confronts a threat to her beloved kingdom, a secretly corrupted Skojare, and a forbidden love. After watching Viktor Dalig and Konstantin Black escape in the previous volume, Bryn is sent to Skojare to help assist the king and queen, but the more she discovers, the less she realizes she knows. On top of those problems, Bryn is developing undeniable and forbidden feelings for her boss, Ridley. Fans of the author's previous "Trylle" series (St. Martin's) will be ecstatic about this release. Hocking creates a detailed and beautiful setting that easily sweeps teens away to a fantastical world. Bryn is a likable, motivated, and candid character. The ending will leave readers with unanswered questions, eager for Hocking's next installment. A detailed sexual encounter midway through the novel makes this appropriate for mature readers. VERDICT This title doesn't stand alone, but fans of the first book and Hocking's other paranormal series will enjoy this sequel.—Morgan O'Reilly, Riverdale Country School, NY

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A fun sequel that has me anticipating book three... By Alicia 4 StarsA tangled web of lies, deception, traitors, betrayals, all spun around a fierce loyalty, honor, determination, with an utterly sweet, and crazy sexy romance, that will get your blood pumping and chills running. ICE KISSED was a great sequel that I've been highly anticipating.Being back into the world of THE KANIN CHRONICLES, and reliving the journey and struggles these characters endure, reminded me just how much I missed this world and the adventures it holds. Bryn and Ridley are both absolutely my favorite characters in this series. I adored them as a couple, and was thrilled to finally see them let go and give in to each other and their long suppressed desires. And theirs one part, Chapter 15, page 101-104 to be exact, where I swooned and was actually amazed by the sex scene that Hocking's threw in there. It was definitely boarding on the line of YA, and New Adult. But hey, I didn't mind one bit, I actually thought it was refreshing to see YA authors border that line, and take the romance a little step further!! But it was definitely as hot as it can get for Young Adult!!The plot, ugh, how do I say this without making it sound like I didn't like the book, because I did, I liked it a lot actually. But it did have some flaws, just like the first book did, and the reason I gave it four stars. It felt like the plot was kinda at a standstill until the last quarter or so of the book, that's when it really started picking up and went into full blown plot. There was a lot of the plot that I thought could of been cut out, that it just dragged and stretched to make a full length novel. The outline of the plot was amazing, I loved the ideas Hocking had, it's just the execution, and the direction she took to get to the bigger picture is what I struggled with. Some parts were boring, where others were just mildly interesting, and some were full blown thrilling. And that made me have mixed feelings and it was really hard to connect to the novel. But nevertheless, even with it's flaws I still did thoroughly enjoy ICE KISSED, and fell hard for the ending. And I have a feeling the next book, CRYSTAL KINGDOM is going to blow this series out of the water, and be as explosive as I hope it will be.THE PLOTBryn Aven is finally being accepted into the Kanin world where she's always been an outcast. Fair skin, blond hair, and blue eyes have always set her apart from the other dark haired, olive skin Kanin. But Bryn's fine tracking skills, sharp instincts, and fierce determination have always gotten her through whatever obstacle she's challenged with. But being different from the rest of her tribe always pushed Bryn to fight harder, longer, and aim higher then the rest. And finally that eager determination payed off as it slowly drove her up the latter to where she is now known as an excellent tracker with a great record. But what Bryn really craves is to become an official member of the Kings Elite Guard, better known as the Högdragen. And she will do anything to prove her worth, to prove she is just as good as the rest, to prove they are all equal...But all the training in the world couldn't of prepared Bryn Aven for what she's about to face...After the incident that left her knocked out unconscious on the Skojare palace prison cell floor, Bryn Aven is feeling like a failure. Letting Doldastam's two most famous criminals, Viktor Dålig and Konstantin Black slip through her fingers is no easy feat. But with the fate of her kingdom hanging in the balance, Bryn won't be beaten down that easy. She's determined to get to the bottom of everything threatening to tear the troll kingdoms apart...Eager to help and determined to find answers, Bryn finds herself back at the Skojare palace, picking up where she left off with the queens disappearance. But just as Bryn felt it last time she was in the sparkling Skojare palace, she feels it now too. Something here is amiss, something is not right with the Skojare people, their up to something, at least some of them are. And Bryn Aven has just dug herself into a conspiracy so deep, she may not be able to pull herself out, alive...This book had it's ups and downs for me. On one hand I really enjoyed it, but on the other, I felt it lacked depth, lacked a real plot. I mean the bigger picture was there, but the path getting to the main purpose and outcome of the plot was lacking. If that makes any sense?I guess I would say the plot was a little bland. I mean almost the whole book was focusing around protecting a juvenile queen that didn't have a backbone to save her life, and won't stand her ground when needed. And after a while it just got to be annoying, and I felt like screaming "Move on already, bring on some different drama, some purpose, some action," in which it definitely lacked until about the last quarter or so.But nevertheless, even with it's faults, ICE KISSED was a good sequel that I did enjoy. Especially the one VERY hot romance scene with Ridley, in which I was thrilled to finally see them showing each other some real love!! I ship them so hard and really hope Hocking's doesn't decide to through a love triangle in the mix now with Konstantin Black coming back into the main plot of book three, because that would absolutely ruin it for me.ICE KISSED end on an thrilling cliffhanger and I'm so eager to pick up the last book CRYSTAL KINGDOM and see how it all plays out. Because I have a feeling the next book will be an unforgettable conclusion that will put book two and three to shame...Overall, ICE KISSED was an interesting sequel with it's faults, but also it's perks too. The ending alone was well worth reading the whole book just to get to it. I loved the characters and their fierce determination, and the romance was definitely hot too. Either way, ICE KISSED was a great addition to THE KANIN CHRONICLES, and I'm very excited to see how Hocking's will bring this series to a close, and all the struggles Bryn will have to endure to save her people. If you like fantasy with paranormal aspects, with low action and adventure, but with court intrigue, and mystery, topped with betrayals, lies , conspiracies, and a slow burning, HOT romance, then ICE KISSED may be right up your ally!!!NOTE: I received a Physical ARC from St. Martin's Griffin for reviewing purposes. All opinions express are my own and are not influenced in any way.

I was looking forward to the second, anticipating answers to questions, with more mystery and intrigue spinning off of those answers (Konstantin Black's story, Viktor's story, etc.). Instead, I felt the second book was almost a stand alone book; it didn't answer questions. It didn't really create more questions either. The mystery is still the same as the first, what is the story with Konstantin, what is his business with Viktor, why does he feel he has to do the things he does, with little choice? I didn't care much for the king and queen in the first book, and this story solidified my dislike. I didn't really enjoy the deaths in this story, either. I think a good book can do quite well without characters dying. I did like where the romance is going with Ridley. I hope it continues in a positive light.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This wouldn't be a bad thing but Hocking goes into so much detail of ... By Brittany's Book Rambles Ice Kissed is an improvement upon to its first installment, Frostfire, but I can't say that I'm hooked. I wanted to know how Konstantin is tied into this whole mess. I wanted to know what the big secret is behind all of the suspicious aspects. Instead I got a lot of details about all of the characters relationships with one another. This wouldn't be a bad thing but Hocking goes into so much detail of each of her characters' personalities, backgrounds, and feelings that the core of the plot gets muddled out. I just kept waiting for something to happen. At times the plot seemed like it was building up to something big but then nothing would come from it. No resolutions, no clues about what these events mean, nothing. By the next page, the event had already passed and Bryn would briefly explain what had happened. For the scenes that the reader is actually able to read as the event is happening the details are rushed and the scene is over in a blink of an eye. This made it seem like those details were never important to begin with. The lack of specifics in these crucial scenes makes it almost impossible to connect the characters and their motivations together. What kept me going through the book is I kept waiting for Ridley and Bryn to clean up their act and admit their love for one another already.Unfortunately, they both keep coming up with different reasons as to why they can't work. None of which made any sense to me.I have so many questions but it seems like they are destined to go unanswered. With its unique plot, likable characters, The Kanin Chronicles have a lot of potential that's being wasted. I want to jump right into these books but because I have to wade through a lot of extra details to get to what is supposed to be important, it doesn't seem worth it. I hope the next book gives me the answers I'm looking for.Full review: http://www.bookrambles.com/2015/08/ice-kissed-kanin-chronicles-2-by-amanda.html

Review

Praise for Blythe Grossberg & Asperger’s Rules

Grossberg provides an upbeat and supportive guide for readers with Aspergers, covering feelings and emotions, teachers, asking for help, and dealing with bullies...The invaluable advice should help readers navigate new challenges. --Publishers Weekly

This manual-workbook offers insights to readers with mild spectrum disorders on the general unwritten rules for dealing with teachers and classmates in school. With a mix of common scenarios, dialogue trees, bulleted lists, multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank self-tests, and brief analytical comments, Grossberg covers setting goals, demonstrating appropriate responses to behavioral or emotional triggers, using communication strategies, recognizing body language and other signals, coping with bullying, making friends, and (in a perfunctory, tacked-on final chapter) establishing personal hygiene and healthy life habits. Capped by a select set of annotated print and online resources, these guidelines and procedures will be helpful to their target audience though the frequent write-in features make the volume more suitable for individual than library use. --Booklist

As a clinical psychologist who works with middle- and high-school students diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, Grossberg has the background and expertise to give advice on how to negotiate the world of the neurotypcial. The advice is straightforward, easy to understand, and solid. Each chapter includes a short test to help readers understand the importance of the material. The short quiz at the start of each chapter clues readers in to how they should relate to the upcoming information. The book includes sample dialogues and opportunities for readers to practice what they are learning. While this book is written specifically for youngsters on the Asperger s spectrum, it will be helpful for any children who struggle with making and keeping friends, dealing with bullies, or understanding unwritten rules in the classroom. Some young people may prefer to read this on their own, while others could certainly benefit from sharing the volume in a group and/or with an adult helper. --Wendy Smith-D Arezzo, School Library Journal

About the Author Blythe Grossberg, Psy.D, is the author of Making ADD Work and a number of other books about ADHD, learning disabilities, and Asperger's. A learning specialist in New York City, she helps children and adults with ADD and ADHD improve their performance in school and at work.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Autism from the Outside By C. Frazer I received the book promptly and on time.I am an autistic adult. I've read A LOT of guides to getting along in the world as an autistic person, and I've found some of them more helpful than others. This was definitely one of the less helpful.First, I take issue with the author's choice of using “asperger's” to define her target audience. Aspergers hasn't been a diagnosis for almost three years, it's outdated and it's divisive. Words like Asperger's and “high-functioning” are arbitrary labels that only serve to divide our community among lines that aren't even clearly defined. Indeed, the author says “by definition, Aspies possess above-average intelligence.” This is untrue. DSM-IV Asperger's Syndrome could coexist with intellectual disability, and it is a disservice to all of us to frame intellectual disability as an inherently bad thing. Actually, the only difference, c. DSM-IV, between Asperger's and Autism was that “aspies” did not have a clinically significant delay in speech.Second, this author is obsessed with the fact that no autistic person can be happy if they do not have an active social life, which is patently untrue. She is also, seemingly, obsessed with gaming addiction. She mentions it like 4 times. I know a lot of autistic people who like games, but I've never met any who are addicted. This author also repeatedly discourages stimming where people can see you. I think this is one of the most harmful things you can tell autistic people. Indistinguishability has often been pushed on us our entire lives, and it is unhealthy for autistic people to not move our bodies in the way they need to move. Even if we aren't taught to stop stimming through abusive therapies as children, we often learn from being bullied by our peers. It is the stopping stimming, in part, that causes the disproportionately high rates of anxiety and depression among autistic adults. On the subject of bullying, the author also states, “Nobody can bully you if you don't allow it,” which is one of the most disempowering things I've ever had the displeasure of reading. She has basically characterized all bullying ever suffered by anyone as the fault of the victim. Fulls stop.In the romance chapter, the author pays one sentence lip service to asexual and aromantic autistic people, without ever actually saying the words. She never so much as approaches the differing experiences of LGBT autistics, which may not seem like a big deal, but there is emerging evidence in the literature that autistic people are more likely than those without ASD to identify as LGBT or asexual. The therapy and mental health section is absolutely lacking. She talks a little about CBT and sensory integration therapy, but nothing about things like psychodynamic therapy or others that may be of worth to autistic people. She also doesn't mention HOW to find a therapist. Furthermore, in the section about coexisting conditions, she does not approach the rates of PTSD in the autistic community-- we are disproportionately targets of abuse-- by caregivers, professionals, and partners. The author also suggests resources written by Autism Speaks, which has been protested by autistic adults for years as they have limited autistic representation inside of their organization and often promote fear-mongering and eugenicist rhetoric around autism.Overall, it was a short, poorly put-together book that didn't seem to have much input from actually autistic people, and made a lot of assumptions about the life circumstances of autistic young adults. If you're looking for a guide to autistic life, I'd look for books like Cynthia Kim's Nerdy, Shy, and Socially Inappropriate or other books written by people with firsthand experience AS autistic young adults.I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Easy to read but has some issues By Just passing by This shortish book is quite nice and easy to read, but it does have some issues. These might be apparent only to middle-aged or elderly people with Asperger’s who have plenty of experience of life choices, work, family life, comorbidities and all sorts of pros and cons of life with Asperger’s.The book seems to be aimed at quite young adults, even teenagers – although from time to time it seems more like the target audience is actually neurotypicals dealing with Aspies. As someone with ASD, some of the advice sounds a bit counterproductive. I’m not a huge fan of telling people to try and not stim visibly – when you could always tell people to find socially acceptable stims that don’t look like stimming; that’s what neurotypical people do and get away with! Not a huge fan of the comorbidity and therapy section either, as CBT isn’t the only option and it definitely isn’t the best solution to every mental health problem people with Asperger’s have. Why not mention there are other quite effective forms of psychotherapy and other useful ways of coaching Aspies to deal with the NT world and/or mental health issues? There’s quite a strong emphasis on dating, which is great – but I’d love to see a chapter on friendship as well. Platonic relationships are often just as hard for us as romantic ones, but they’re also immensely important. Many Aspies stay single, and the strong emphasis on dating and romance does seem to imply it’s something you need to want and pursue – which leads to even more feelings of loneliness in a young Aspie if they feel they don’t want a romantic and sexual relationship. (Also, not all women with Asperger’s date men, contrary to what the text implies.)I received a copy of this book complimentary in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. More of an introduction than a guide, with an unconvincing persuasive element By Andy Gainey It was an okay introduction to many aspects of independent living that young adults with Asperger's are likely to face, but I felt like it was exactly that, more of an introduction than a guide. It was good at raising areas of concern that a person would want to research and reflect upon more deeply, but in that sense it raised far more questions than it provided answers. They were good questions to ask, for sure, but I would have hoped for more depth from something labeled a "guide". As someone who welcomes learning ahead of time every detail and possibility of social interactions, such as how the checkout process of a grocery store might unfold (including and especially the minor surprises, like an item not being recognized by the computer), I found that the details in the book about stuff like dealing with a landlord or an HR department only seemed to scratch the surface. The book was also something of a persuasive piece, in that it encourages young adults to seek out an independent life, who might currently be content with one that is more familiar and dependent. A legitimate and understandable argument to be made, but I don't feel that the book made the argument very convincingly. In particular, I couldn't help but perceive a tone throughout the book that suggested normative attitude built on a neurotypical perspective. I felt like the persuasive bits ultimately came down to the message, "Trust me, acquiring a more typical life is preferable, you'll see." There were even a few statements that came across as patronizing; remarks that added nothing of value to the topic, could have easily been edited out, but contributed to that sense I got that this is a book written from an outsider's perspective and infused with unintended biases which, while understandable, are not always helpful. To be fair, I was also encouraged to see plenty of constructive recognition of the uniqueness and worth of those in the Asperger's community, and in the unique challenges which are often best handled with idiosyncratic solutions which need to fit the person. But there were times that the messages the book was sending me seemed mixed and at odds with each other. The chapter on employment especially left me with the perception that it was telling me, "You're unique and have special talents and challenges, so here are some tips to help you behave more typically and not rock the boat." It felt like an unintentional bait-and-switch. Maybe that just reflects the raw unpleasant facts of employment, that many compromises are often needed in order to earn a living. But the presentation was nonetheless discouraging at times, working against the book's overall message of encouraging people to get out there and be independent, confident in who they are and what they're capable of.Note: I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. fascinating romantic suspense By A Customer Her long time friend Isabel persuades Claire Watson that the two of them accompanied by her son Sam, his cousin David, and the adults' pal George need to vacation on the French Rivera like Cary Grant did in To Catch a Thief. On her French holiday, Claire meets John "Rocky" Rock. They are attracted to one another, but as she falls in love, she keeps thinking they met before, but where or when remains initially elusive. However, as they spend time together, memories of a decade earlier in Northern Ireland surface of a broken marriage leading to a suicide off the cliffs that some believed was spousal homicide. As George acts jealous and angry, Claire ponders whether her Rocky might be that same killer from ten years ago? This character driven fascinating romantic suspense feels like a cross between To Catch a Thief and Suspicion. Claire's mixed feelings make for a fine tale as she struggles with her growing love for seemingly kindhearted and charming Rocky while beginning to think he is the same person who got away with murder near her hometown. Fans will enjoy this exciting thriller of love and mayhem in the south of France.Harriet Klausner

Romantic Suspense By Lincs Reader Roisin McAuley's writing has been compared to Maeve Binchy, I do see some similarities, maybe it's because they are both Irish? They certainly do have some things in common, the main thing being the ease at which the reader is drawn into the story.Meeting Point is a romantic suspense story. Solicitor and single mum Claire is holidaying in France with her best friend and their two sons. The story opens as Claire is forced to dive into a ditch to avoid being knocked down by a sports car on a quiet country lane in France. The driver is most apologetic, and he also charming, very attractive and English. Dr John Rock or 'Rocky' as he is known insists on driving them back to the camp site and invites them all to visit his music bar in nearby Nice. It's clear that there is a spart of attraction between Rocky and Claire, but Claire also feels that she has meet him before. The story goes back 8 or so years, to the time when Claire's marriage was crumbling, when she was still a serving officer in the RUC, back in Northern Ireland. Yes, Claire and Rocky's paths have crossed before; when she was investigating the mysterious death of his wife. This is real comfort reading, not heavy or in depth, but a great plot that rattles along nicely. The characters are likeable, if sometimes a little predictable and there are a couple of huge coincidences along the way. On the whole, a nice easy read.

Synchronicity and Seduction with a playful touch By Clare McAdam This is a perfectly enjoyable, enticing novel that evokes a sense of mystery with the past catching up to the present. A degree of suspension of incredulity may be required, given the coincidental encounters and events but this isn't an intellectually demanding tome. Characters are realistic enough within their individual stereotyped frames. The female protagonist, Claire is appealing in her somehow bumbling and self-effacing ordinariness. There is bit of Hardy Boys in the young boys' detective role play but it's all in good fun and segues into a satisfying ending where just desserts are served up and good things come.Pleasant diversion, good for an easy weekend.

The first half of the nineteenth century in the American West was marked by an intense spirit of national pride and frontier determination. The politicians were the ones who stoked the flames of national pride that would eventually bring the territory of California into the American union. From the year 1803 when the Louisiana Purchase brought the entire Rocky Mountain territory under the control of the American government, men called free trappers were moving about throughout the territory and in their own way claiming it for the new owners. Their activities, and their aggression toward the Native Americans who inhabited the region, where source of conflict and violence. Where the Lewis and Clark expedition had gone through the entire Western territory all the way to the Pacific Ocean and back without engaging in open conflict with the natives, things were gradually changing in that regard. Tribes which it always thought with one another were now considering the white settlers as invaders of their territories and the danger to their ancient traditions. The men who took part in this process of expansion, and invasion, took it for granted that their Native American counterparts could not be trusted for the most part. The story is Samuel Ogden Leonard, the Mountain Man, began in eighteen twenty when he was just sixteen years old. In the summer of that year he met a consummate mountain man, Clyde Patterson, who had been a companion of one of the first, is not the first mountain man, John Coulter. After Coulter’s death in the war of eighteen twelve, Patterson continued his life as a mountain man, mostly alone as a free trapper. He saw in Young Sam Ogden, not just the makings of a mountain man but the makings of a great mountain man he was fascinated with the experience that Young Sam had already had in the short time that he had spent in the Rocky mountain region. He wanted to pass on to his protégé, the skills that would make him one of the greatest mountain men to ever live. In order to do that, young Samuel had to learn the secrets that are revealed in this volume, “Winter Down.”

Winter Down: The Sam Ogden Mountain Man Series Vol. II, by Robert M. Johnson

About the Author Robert M Johnson is spent a good portion of his adult life living in mountain regions. The life of frontiersmen like Sam Ogden is a constant struggle with the elements changes in seasons, altitude, animal migrations, and human greed. This is the second volume of the Sam Ogden series where we see the young man, still seventeen years old taking on the challenges of a true mountain man. Along with his mentor, Clyde Patterson, he decides to journey all the way to the great ocean, an adventure that proves to be an almost impossible challenge, in 1821. The two men continued to work the beaver trade which is now thriving in the 1820s in the Rocky Mountain Territories. Mountain Man, Clyde Patterson, became fascinated with the story of his young protégé, who at sixteen years old had escaped a Grizzly Bear attack and had been captured by Indians and escaped! It was Patterson who gave young Sam Ogden, the title of being “Hard to Kill,” which served as the title for the first volume in this series. Between them, they have created a lifestyle of free trapping and wintering in the mountains. In this volume, “Winter Down,” the reader follows the day-to-day life of men who truly had the freedom to move about the new territories at will. They had to be ready for any of the challenges that might come their way, from hostile Native Americans, to grizzly bears, to winter storms that might dump two or three feet of snow on their cabin at one time. The moments of beauty and quiet in this very active life made it all worthwhile. Together the two men were discovering the joys of reading and writing and one day hoped to leave a Journal of their experience as mountain men who truly were able to, “Winter Down.”

If the concept of chaos and probability is your thing - and even if it isn't - this book is an enjoyable read. [Spoiler Alert: Would have preferred some 'closure' around some of the characters, but to provide such wouldn't have kept with the underlying theme of the book, so I appreciate the approach the author has taken. And it does reflect how involved with the characters one gets that you actually care what happens to them!] All in all, glad I stumbled on this novel and gave it a go.
