A new and relevant look at the Popes By Kathleen Igo Having read many books on the Church and biographies of saints, I find myself very impressed with Wyatt North's three volume History of the Popes. Instead of going into detail that isn't necessary or interesting, Mr North has written a set of books that talk about each pope, and what that pope's impact on the Church and his time really was. Since this series covers 2,000 years, he has chosen to stick to the facts that are, in the end, the ones that are of long term importance and interest. In my experience, this is a new style of biography that I have not seen before, buy I applaud his choice to avoid the detail rich style of writing a biography, and chose rather to stick to the important actions and decisions that each pope made that often impacts us still today.

Yes we were told there were problems and imposture popes but nothing like the information in these books By Catherine Distrito I found Both Volumes ( 2 & 3 ) extremely interesting and informative. I went to catholic schools grade, high & college and never heard any if this information or history. Yes we were told there were problems and imposture popes but nothing like the information in these books. Is it important to know this? I feel it helps us realize that despite "human frailties" Christ still lives in his Church and we as members of the Church He founded upon The Rock Peter, can count on Him to continue to protect it. It also helps us to appreciate the Great Popes we have seen in our Life time.Thank you for writing these - I am truly grateful.PS I have not read Vol. I - I hope to do so in the future.

By Lee Jensen The major problem with this work is that it is written from the official position held by the Roman Catholic Church; namely that the early church was a Roman Catholic church based upon the view that Peter the Apostle was given the keys to rule over all Christendom and that these keys were passed downward to the Bishops of Rome. But it is good for the unbiased researcher to be able to read history from the Roman Church viewpoint.
