By BombshellBooks Sultry Sunset was supposed to be about Hutch and Mike going the whole friends-to-lovers / gay for you route. Unfortunately, instead of being able to enjoy the couple's growing sexual tension and that spark that eventually tips the scales, we got the ins and outs of small town life - including mentions and brief rundowns of TWENTY-SEVEN other characters. The story was only SIXTY TWO PAGES long, for heaven's sake! So much time and effort was wasted on people who don't matter that I was never given enough information about our main characters (especially Mike) to grow to care about whether or not they ever got their happily ever after.Calmes has written some amazing books in her career (esp. Frog!), but this was not one of them.Bottom line, this book was a epic waste of my precious reading time.

Lazy effort on the part of the writer By Unsolicited Reviewer Mary Calmes is the author of some of my favorite books, but she's been phoning it in with her last few. This was not a 90-page romance novella, this was three disparate 30-page short stories loosely tied together, of which only one was even a little bit romantic. Within the context of a full-sized novel, the plot with the neighbor would serve as touching character development, but with this short of a work, it takes over the plot completely.

It is short, sweet, and to the point. It has a good story line and good characters, but nothing about it blows my skirt up. However, it is still a story that flows and is a fun read. She has a knack of letting you get to know her characters and fall in sync with their thinking, even the butt heads of the story.
