Working Hard to Become Spiritually Elite?
Have you ever wondered why enlightenment is just out of reach? Have you struggled with expensive meditation techniques, special diets, elite teachers, and all manner of other crazy things trying to one day reach spiritual liberation? Do you dream of that day in the future when all your problems will disappear? You’ll finally be invited to the spiritual enlightenment club? Then perhaps you too will be able to hold satsang and retreats and have hundreds or perhaps even thousands of doe-eyes devotees hanging on your every word, waiting for your powerful shakti transmission...Stop!
In You're Trying Too Hard, Joey Lott explains exactly that--you are trying too hard, and you will never achieve your goals. In fact, the harder you try, the worse things seem to get. Why? Because you’ve been looking at it all wrong. It’s not your fault, of course. All your great, wise, spiritual guides and gurus and teachers have deceived you. You’ve been hoodwinked. The good news is: this is already it. The bad news is: this is already it. But when you test out what Lott proposes, you just might find that it’s more good news than bad.If You’re Worrying about the Right Technique, the Right Lineage, the Right Practice, the Right Path...Worry No More
“Look to direct experience right now. This is absolutely effortless. There is no trying required. Why? Because direct experience is unavoidable. It is what is happening.” Forget about the spiritually elite. Let them try and one up one another in their misery to be happy. Let them fight over whether the One True Way(tm) is advaita or nonduality or Zen or Buddhism or this teaching or that teaching. Don’t worry if you’re doing your mindfulness and meditation correctly. Instead, discover that you are already all that is. Not in some esoteric sense. But in a very simple, direct, and obvious sense. Are you ready? Read this book now, and set foot on the only path to so-called "enlightenment" you will ever need. About the Author
"The secret to happiness is to let go of everything - see through every assumption."
Beginning at a young age Joey Lott experienced intensifying anxiety. For several decades he lived with restrictive eating disorders, obsessions, compulsions, and an inescapable fear. By the time he was 30 years old he was physically sick, emotionally volatile, and mentally obsessed with keeping any and all unwanted thoughts and experiences at bay.
At this time Lott was living on a futon mattress in a tiny cabin in the woods. He was so sick that he could barely move. He was deeply depressed and hopeless. All this despite doing all the "right" things such as years of meditation, yoga, various "perfect" diets, clean air, and pure water.
Just when things were at their most dire, a crack appeared in the conceptual world that had formerly been mistaken for reality. By peering into this crack and underneath all the assumptions that had been unquestioned up to that moment, Lott began a great undoing. The revelation of this undoing is that reality is utterly simple, ever-present, seamless, and indivisible.
Lott's books provide a glimpse into the seamless, simple, and joyous nature of reality, offering a glimpse through the crack in conceptual worlds. Whether writing about the ultimate non-dual nature of reality, eating disorders, stress, disease, or any other subject, he offers the invitation to look at things differently, leaving behind the old, out-grown, painful limitations we have used to bind ourselves in suffering. And then, he welcomes you home to the effortless simplicity of yourself as you are.
Not sure where to begin? Pick up a copy of Lott's most popular book, You're Trying Too Hard, which strips away all the concepts that keep us searching for a greater, more spiritual, more peaceful life or self.

I love this book. This book is for you if:You have read countless books on 'enlightenment', including works of Eckart Tolle, Ramana Maharshi, etc., and you are wondering why the world hasn't disappeared into swirls of light yet.You are apt to wax lyrical about your 'spiritual experience', and how your self has turned into your Self, and you run around shouting 'I am all this', but really you know not much has changed. You read the Tao and listen to Alan Watts and think they are beautiful, but wonder what practical use they have. For Joey there is only one noun (this) and one verb (be). 'This is' your Lott :-)

Joey clearly addresses, from his own experience, obstacles that keep people stuck identifying with the false self. In each chapter, conceptual beliefs are gently exposed and the reader is invited to see each of them for what they are, including the readers own ideas on what enlightenment means to them. This is probably the granddaddy of beliefs! Joey takes all these common ideas and beliefs that most of us have regarding just about everything, and encourages the reader to remain instead with direct experience, to lay aside the seeking mind's constant attempt to understand and figure anything out. Having been one who has been on a path to figure absolutely all of this enlightenment business out, that felt like a huge relief of a decades long heavy burden. I have read many a book by numerous non-dual teachers, and I find this clear style of revealing all the subtle places our ideas can snag us, to be very helpful to me. So simple, so direct. A wonderful, much appreciated read!

Cutting Through Spiritual Bullpoop By Amazon Customer Like the author, I had been working hard at getting to Enlightenment, the stateless state, the Self, etc, etc, etc. He cuts through all that in a non-judgmental, efficient way. I have been practicing what he talks about, direct experience, for only two days now, and it is wonderful to lay down all my spiritual concepts and striving, and just simply be. He doesn't put down spiritual concepts and practices, just puts them in their place: "not simple being".This read is refreshing, challenging, and very well written in short chapters.I recommend this to anyone who has been diligently studying and practicing spiritual teachings, not to challenge them, but your perception of them.
