About the Author

Tara Fields, PhD, is a licensed psychotherapist who has been in private clinical practice for more than twenty-eight years. She integrates her passion for family systems, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy and attachment theory in her private practice, workshops, and media appearances. She has been a keynote speaker, workshop leader at Canyon Ranch (Tucson Arizona), The Commonwealth Club of California, American Woman in Radio and Television, the College of Marin and many other organizations. She has been a frequent guest expert for numerous network media outlets, such as Oprah, Dr. Phil, Hoarders, Braxton Family Values, CNN, HLN, Jane-Velez Mitchel and was the host of WeTV's Fix My Family. Tara is a vegan and a passionate animal rescue advocate. She lives in Marin County, California where she spends as much time as possible outdoors, enjoying hiking, biking, and tree hugging in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.

By Sari Singerman When I received this book, I gave it to my husband and asked him to read (page 252) the last page of the book, entitled "3 Things You Can Do Today for Instant Shift in Your Relationship". Soon after he came over to me, kissed me on the forehead and said " you are wonderful".It immediately opened my heart, he hadn't referred to me as "wonderful" in probably 10 years. He offered in the moment his authentic gesture of love. This book is Practical, Doable, and Insightful.I highly recommend it..........

The author obviously is smart and knows what she's talking about, but the writing style is very down-to-earth and engaging. I happen to love "case histories" so I read it practically in one sitting, but the exercises will keep me busy for a long time . . . I fall into more than one of these loops!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.I couldn't possibly write a review that could explain how much A View From There moved me, affected me. The writing was graceful and brought the story to life. Within a couple pages, I quickly escaped to that small southern town and felt as though I knew the characters. I experienced each emotion right alongside Kate, Malcolm and Beulah Two - I hurt with the brokenness and rejoiced when hope was found again. This book captures real life, and I loved and enjoyed every piece of it - including the times I caught myself laughing out loud!

MAX: Hey, Cosmoe, thanks for sitting down and talking with me.

COSMOE: No prob! I love talking about myself.

MAX:Wow, you’re cocky, huh?

COSMOE: I prefer the term “confident.”

MAX:So you’re from Planet Earth, originally. But now you live in space. How is that, space? You like it?

COSMOE: Totally! It’s amazing. Every day is a new adventure. There’s stuff out there in this galaxy that would, like, literally blow your mind. Giant monsters, strange planets, weird sports, evil robots, man-eating planets! And, I mean, I spend my days flying around in a spaceship selling hot dogs with my best friends—what more could I want??

MAX: The Neon Wiener—that’s your ship, correct?

COSMOE: Yep! It’s a lightning fast, super radical spaceship. But with one major difference from all the other lightning fast, super radical spaceships out there: it’s a flying food truck! The side of the ship slides open just like any food truck you might see on the street—that’s how we serve doggies. It’s also got like a million James Bond–style gadgets. Like space mines that can be dropped from the back during a chase—fun stuff like that.

MAX: Jeez, how big is this thing? Like Millennium Falcon big?

COSMOE: Ah, I like your style. Well. . . it’s not huuuuuuge, but we’ve squeezed in everything a dude could need. We’ve got video games, a zero-gravity basketball hoop for dunk contests, a batting cage where Humphree and I play Astro-Derby and launch z-spheres deep into space, video games up the wazoo. And, obviously, that is all completely necessary. All our fun stuff takes up so much space, Humphree and I ended up sharing a bedroom.

MAX: You have, like, a bunk-bed thing going on? I always wanted bunk beds as a kid.

COSMOE: Sorta! We sleep in space hammocks. They’re like regular hammocks, but spacey.

MAX: You’re the pilot of the Neon Wiener?

COSMOE: Co-pilot. Me and Humphree are co-pilots together.

MAX: Aren’t you kinda short to be a pilot?

COSMOE: Next question please.

MAX: Tell me more about Big Humphree.

COSMOE: He used to be bad news, but now he’s my best bud. He was a space pirate. Space pirates are totally not good. They hijack ships and they’re basically just super huge and super scary. The only thing worse than space pirates? Zombified space pirates. SUPER bad news. Ran into some of those recently. . .

MAX: Yikes, so then what’s the deal with your newest friend, Princess Dagger? She’s evil, huh?

COSMOE: Big-time evil. I met her when she hijacked our ship. At first I was like, whoa, I don’t need this evilness in my life. But, after a while, she grows on you. She’s tough as nails, just like her mom. Maybe even tougher than Big Humphree (but don’t tell him I said that or he’ll pinch me).

MAX: Princess Dagger’s mom? Who’s that?

COSMOE: Blegh, Evil Queen Dagger. She is NOT good and is super ticked off that her daughter ran away with us. She’s totally evil, totally hates me, and has really bad breath. Yuck.

MAX: Seems like it’d get pretty crowded in the Neon Wiener.

COSMOE: You forgot about Goober!

MAX: Whoops, my bad. Tell us a little about Goober.

COSMOE: Goober is my rubbery blob of a buddy. He’s right here on my arm as we’re talking; actually, he’s always right here on my arm. He can never leave my side—he’s symbiotically attached! Goober can transform into all sorts of radical stuff: swords, bats, axes, whips, and stuff! He’s always getting us outta trouble.

MAX: Favorite food?

COSMOE: For real, is that a serious question? Hot dogs! But I guess I can get more specific—my favorite hot dog is Cosmoe’s Classic Corn Dog: it’s one classic dog, fusion-fired in cake batter with NO NASTY SPACE BUGS.

MAX: Would I like it?

COSMOE: Probably. It’s pretty tame compared to some of the other stuff we serve: bean slug-bugs, nuckto knuckles, moon cheese, raw arazkid legs—some of it gives me the willies. But, hey, gotta give the aliens what they want.

MAX: Yeah, I’ll pass, thanks. So, standard interview: If you could meet any person from history, who would it be?

COSMOE: Easy. Luke Skywalker.

MAX: I meant any real person. . . Not a character from Star Wars.

COSMOE: Luke Skywalker is totally real.

MAX: He’s totally not.

COSMOE: Look, do you live in space? Do you know what goes on out here?

MAX: Sigh. No. . .

COSMOE: So trust me. Super real.

MAX: It must be dangerous out there in space. Ever get scared?

COSMOE: Are you kidding? Me? NEVER!

MAX: For real?

COSMOE: Well. Well, no. I guess not. Sometimes it’s crazy scary. But I just try to pretend I’m not scared—and if I keep telling myself that, it kind of works. One time this evil weirdo, Krax Von Grumble, almost zapped us to space ash, but don’t worry, we played it cool and kicked some major space butt as usual.

MAX: Thanks for the interview, Cosmoe. Anything else you want to say?

COSMOE: Hmmm…let me think. I’ll end with a joke. Why don’t aliens eat clowns?

MAX: Why?

COSMOE: Because they taste funny! Wooo! Thank you, thank you.

From School Library Journal Gr 3–6—The story of a young earthling, Cosmoe, and his alien sidekick, Humphree. Cosmoe and Humphree own a food truck called the Neon Weiner, where they concoct unique and eccentric hot dog recipes. Their story begins at the Intragalactic Food Truck Cook-Off in Space Port Funketoun. Cosmoe and Humphree have created the "best hot dog they have ever made," the Mega-Dog. They are convinced that it is their one-way ticket to fame and fortune, until Princess Dagger, daughter of evil Queen Dagger, attempts to steal their ship and their Mega-Dog. Eventually Princess Dagger admits that she doesn't want to be evil anymore and would rather be friends with Cosmoe and Humphree. The trio embark on an action-packed interstellar adventure that takes them to new planets and introduces to them to a huge cast of alien characters. The book is chock-full of illustrations, adding to the whimsical tone, though at times the crowded presentation of the pages might be overwhelming for some readers. The volume of goofy and silly made-up catch phrases littered throughout the narrative sometimes overpowers the story. Review "Mind-blowing action and big-time fun!" (Jeff Kinney author of the bestselling DIARY OF A WIMPY KID)This highly illustrated story has something for every demographic, offering robots, zombies, hot dogs, a princess, video games and wrestlers. This is not a complete list. Even people who hate princesses might enjoy the book, thanks to snarky dialogue. Hero Cosmoe gasps, "What the butt?! What are you doing here??" "Stealing your ship, silly. I'm an evil princess. Y'know?" Princess Dagger knowingly responds. Cosmoe just wants to serve up hot dogs (his food truck is called the Neon Wiener), but he's being chased around the galaxy by Evil Queen Dagger and her Royal Armada, who are after the princess. Within a few chapters, he's fighting zombie space pirates. The fight scenes are the weakest parts of the book. They read like transcripts of video games: "He swings! I duck AND—WHOOSH!—The Boss Worm's fist flies over my head. NOW! YES!" It's hard to engage emotionally when most of the nouns and verbs are missing. But there are some terrific jokes. When Cosmoe is getting tossed around by a robot, he muses, "Now I know what underwear in a dryer feels like…." The overall effect is like a little like flipping through every channel on cable TV. The book is so frenetic that some readers will need caffeine to get through it, but in the end, that turns out to be an advantage: If a joke doesn't work, or if readers get bored, all they have to do is turn the page. Brallier’s story races ahead at what in the film Space Balls would be called “ludicrous speed.” Maguire does a heroic job of keeping up with twists and turns that include run-ins with Zombie Space Pirates and the villainous General Krax von Grumble, as well as intergalactic wrestling and video-game tournaments; even so, the action isn’t easy to track. Planet-shaking sound effects (“SHHH-BLAM!!!”) and lowbrow humor proliferate (“There are 19,476 doom-suns in the known galaxy and they’re all hot as butts”), adding up to a whirlwind SF adventure that doesn’t take itself a bit seriously. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great art and humor By Dave I just finished reading Galactic Hot Dogs and wow was it good!! The story was engaging and well thought out. I really enjoyed the humor that is sprinkled on to every page and every panel. The artwork is really unique. Many times, when I read a comic or graphic novel I just read the story and barely pay attention to the artwork. Galactic Hot Dogs is different, though. I paused after reading each page for a few seconds just to take in and admire the amount of time and effort put into the art.This book was so great that I picked another up for my nephew. I can't wait for the next in hopefully a long series!

By Simona Elena *Book provided by the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*Can I just say how proud I am of Lynsey for getting the publishing deal with Carina. This debut novel is wonderful and I am sure it will be a great success. Well done, gorgeous lady, so well deserved!!!As you can tell I was pretty excited about this book, for several reasons. Lynsey has become a lively friend and I lived following her journey on Twitter, the blurb of this story just sounds fab and the cover is amazing ������The story follows Ava Clements, a 26 years old journalist from Manchester. We meet her at her mother's seventh wedding, so it's pretty obvious what she thinks about weddings. She works for Sleek magazine and is getting ready tor write something for Valentine's Day, she has two stories in mind. Ivy St Claire, a new friend, and her story of her lost love or her own story about Mr Writer. On top of that she gets to cover weddings for the magazine as well, yay ;)Well, let me tell you more about Mr Writer. Back at uni Ava received wonderful love letters of a guy. It was pretty obvious from these letters that he adored and loved her, but when it came to meeting her he backed out.Now, 6 years later, the letters start again. He is sorry, he's still in love with her and is determined to show it to her this time. Encouraged by her best friends Max and Gwen she starts looking for him herself and she also starts looking for Leo Browning, Ivy's list love. As you can guess, the adventure and the drama start there...I have to say I had my suspicions from the start and I really wanted ut to be true, because I just adored these two together.I was very happy Ava had her friends throughout this story, especially Max. They really gad something special and lets just say things got really intense and complicated by one point. Things didn't get better when Gwen showed interest in Max and there was still his ex Amira as well. Who suddenly wanted him back.Ava goes through a range if emotions in this book and I loved how Lynsey included her feelings. I felt so close to Ava and I just wanted to be there for her.There were so e really passionate and intense moments and the wee written in a vivid, real and authentic way, I was really able to dive into this story and I didn't want to leave it again.Everything seemed to go in the right direction, until Ava found out the truth about Mr Writer. The drama and the misunderstandings made everything much mire complicated, which made the story even mire exciting. I couldn't put the book down at that point, because I just wanted to find out what was going to happen. I have to say I questioned both Ava's and Max's decisions sometimes, because their reactions just didn't make sense to me, but it all fit with the story perfectly.This boom git me gripped until the very end and I didn't want it to stop!!! Back in college Ava received letters from a secret admirer, but he left her heartbroken when he didn’t show up at their planned big reveal. Now six years later, he starts writing again and Ava is determined to discover who he is. Unfortunately within the first quarter of the book I had already figured out who Mr Writer was, and apparently everyone in Ava’s circle knew as well just never though to mention it to her.Her search leads to some funny and embarrassing encounters, which are always nice to read about. Still I found her focus was not just on that, but also on her work. The two are connected in a way, because she hopes by writing her story about Mr Writer she will be featured and receive that promotion.The whole story felt a bit chaotic to me and sometimes even forced. Ava’s low self-confidence is not appealing, even her best friends get sick and tired of hearing the same argument coming from her on why she has trouble with relationships, I can not blame them at all.I liked all the drama and hilarity that lead up to the big reveal, and for me that could have been the ending. It was pretty much perfect, except there were a hundred more pages to go. What comes next is even more drama, insecurity, and everyone screwing things up. That didn’t feel necessary to me.Just The Way You Are is a fun typical British chick lit. It wasn’t always that easy for me to get into the story, but if you like lots and lots of drama and humor this might be something for you.*I received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

By Rob Natiuk First, I love the cover with its subdued color blends and the two robins. The frontispiece matches it well -- so I know a talented artist contributed to this book. Anna is a little girl, jubilant and curious. The alternating rhyme pattern is unobtrusive but carries the little story along with a lilt that matches Anna's spirit. We lose the rhyming scheme on the following pages but it's made up with rhythmic repetition that appeals to young readers and listeners. Lines like these sing to us: "Anna bowed low, then she danced the tango/ She danged the tango,/ She danced and twirled in a bird tango with each friend."Robin is having a grand party with her robin friends. But then -- come the jays! Now the REAL IMAGINATION takes on the plot and resolution. So endearing and capturing are the images and word pictures. For example: "One robin slurped stars,/ One robin slurped down three stars and burped." Many little surprises like that. I highly recommend this book for preschool children and all who love a wonderful blend of colors and words.

I've read some but my mainly fave reads tend to lean more towards the paranormal or historical. However, in the right hands and with the right passion, any topic can be molded and refashioned in such a refreshing way that you have no choice but to change your mind.This tale was short, saucy, sassy and very fun to read. No matter what genre or topic she chooses, the author continues to prove her talent and go outside the box in rich, varied ways!I'd recommend this tale to anyone who loves the whole superhero/villain dynamic. It was genuinely a delight to lose myself in for a bit!

Quick hot read By Summer Ross As always Serrah brings such a great assortment to her writing.The hero in this story is a super hero mixed up with a villainess. Their interaction stays sexy for the entire read with puns, some witty banter, and of course foreplay.If you enjoy a female heading up the bedroom...pick up this light beam read and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.I did wish to see a bit more story to this one...but that doesn't make this read any less enjoyable. As a readers characters tend to make it or break it for me and I always love Serrah's character's.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Great Series! By Belinda I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few minor spelling and grammar issues, such as using the word span instead of spun. They didn't detract from the story as sometimes happens. This was a completely original storyline as far as my experience goes, and I read one average sized novel a day. It was brutal, gruesome, and funny all at the same time. There is plenty of blood and sex for every one, and it all flows well together within the story. Some novels seem to use sex to bridge gaps and maybe keep readers interested when their storyline falters, making for an awkward read. not the case here. It brought back memories of my favorite book, Raven's Shadow Book One: Blood Song by Anthony Ryan. That is the best review I can give anyone.

Hayes since I first got my hands on his debut book The Heresy Within. However it was The Color Of Vengeance, which simply blew my mind and convinced me of the awesomeness of this trilogy and the author. With this book, I was waiting to see how the author would end his trilogy. This volume also featured the return of Jezzet and Thanquil who were conspicuously missing from the second volume.The Price Of Faith begins once again with Thanquil who now finds him being hunted. His prey now has turned predator and the witch stalks Thanquil in his dreams as well as the awakened stage. Thanquil is still bitter about his parting with Jezzet who now finds herself as the court of the Dragon Empire and a friend to the Dragon Empress. A stranger in a strange land, Jezzet finds herself drawn to the weird customs and a certain dark and dangerous pirate who also happens to be the paramour of the Dragon Empress. Drake Morass is feared by everyone and for good reason. His antics in Chade haven’t gone unnoticed however he has a bigger game in mind.Lastly there’s Betrim “Black Thorn” Thorne who now finds himself as the head of a new crew of deadly misfits and a drunken sot named Anders. Betrim still hungers for revenge for the events that befell him at the end of the first book and just maybe he might find the person who bested him. However can the Black Thorn best those far deadlier than him and his crew. These are the many questions posed in this final volume. However this story is about our three leads introduced in the first book, they all have changed. Jezzet was a killer however by the end of the first book became a true blademaster. Betrim was a scoundrel and murderer however he became a deadlier leader and now leads the motley crew of Henry, Pern, Ben Six Cities, Anders and Riley. This third volume is about the change that befalls Thanquil. We get to learn how he acquired the sobriquet of Darkheart that has followed him around since his initiations an arbiter. We get to see what really happened in his childhood and how he was “saved” by Arbiter Prin.We get to see his connection with the Templar Jacob as well learn why the Emperor chose him for the furtive mission. All of this and more is laid bare, in this ending volume. As is the case with the preceding two volumes, characterization once again is the author’s forte. We get all our main POV characters back however once again it’s the side character cast who make the read that much more rewarding. Last time around we got to know Henry, Pern and Anders and while they are back, it’s pirate Drake Morass who steals the show every time he graces the pages. Oozing menace and charm in equal measure; Drake Morass is a charmer who is poison to those he opposes.He however also steals scenes whenever he appears and confounds our POV characters as much as he does the readers. I believe the author is setting him up for something pivotal in the future and he will be playing a major role in the books to come. Not that he doesn’t play any less of a significant one in this one as well. The action sequences are no less exciting than the preceding volume, however this time around; there are pirates, dragons and demons involved. All the threads introduced so far come to an exciting, action-filled climax which answers some pretty fundamental questions about the nature of reality of the world, the aspect of calling upon a god’s power and also concept of avatarhood.All the characters from the previous two volumes make an appearance (at least the ones left alive) and there are a few new ones to hook the reader’s interest. There’s also the character arc, with this book it’s Thanquil who gets the treatment and we get a peek into his madness. This book makes even more sympathetic and a little crazy. He’s been pushed to the end of his wits due to the fact that Jezzet is somewhere and needs his help. Thanquil’s background and powers are laid bare and as a reader it was good to read what makes such a complex character tick.Going on to the drawbacks of the book, one factor going against is that not all threads are completely closed. In fact the epilogue alone puts a whole new spin on the entire story that has happened within the space of three books. Also there’s the aspect of character deaths and particularly a couple of characters meet untimely ends. This on a whole kept the story exciting however on a personal note, I was just saddened by it. Lastly the only other thing that might cause heartache for readers is the fact there’s a resolution provided but that might not be what they expect. To some it might be underwhelming in a way. I think that was the author’s intent to undercut expectations and it will be up to each reader to gauge how successful the author was.CONCLUSION: The Price Of Faith brings to an explosive end to a trilogy that while being self-published can be safely considered as a fantastic dark fantasy gem. It will have its detractors but the fans outnumber them sharply. The Price Of Faith is indeed about the faith that the characters have invested and the price it extracts when their conventions are challenged. Simply put this is a fantastic end to a great trilogy and a terrific beginning to Rob J. Hayes’ career.

Arbiter Thanquil Darkheart and his beloved Blademaster, Jezzet, dominate the story now, and the author puts them through living hell. Thorn and his band of misfits join up with Thanquil for the last third of the book. Jezzet starts out in jail, is freed by the Dragon Empress' s lover, pirate king Drake Morass, and determines to find her way back to Thanquil.Everyone ends up in deadly pursuit of the corrupted Arbiter Kessick, who is putting demons into people and bringing chaos and death. There is plenty of fighting and shocking discovery along the way as forces converge in an epic battle. That's all the plot detail from me.....it's more than I generally give away. Let me simply assure you of the quality of enjoyment and emotional investment the reader wil receive from this grand conclusion....which thankfully does leave the way clear for continued storytelling in this world.This author paints with words. The action is vivid and exciting. And he has a gift for dialing down t h e tension with just the perfect line of dialogue to lend comic relief. This is sword and sorcery in a gritty setting, with earthy characters who command attention and respect. It's a truly fitting conclusion, not quite triumphant for there is sacrifice. The title is The Price of Faith, and the price is heavy.

Nice story, quick read By Cranky Cuss Mr. Paust’s crisp short story, a 20-minute read, made me think of the “butterfly flaps its wings” theory, bullying, and our desire to make a buck out of any odd event. Or maybe I read too much into it and his story is just a nice yarn. I liked the detail about local residents ignoring the birds because they were too wrapped up in their electronic devices. Of course, I read this story on my own electronic device – but I did listen for the birds.

I see that another reviewer said that the work is current but nostalgic of the 40s and 50s. It is -and yet also evokes some of Oscar Wilde's fairy tales.

They asked her name in English, Dari, and Pashtu but Parvana remained mute. She was dressed in a dusty blue chador and kept her eyes lowered. She was found with a bag that contained papers with the names Shauzia, Nooria, Leila, Asif, Hassan - and Parvana. Since she refused to talk or give her name, the authorities were convinced she was some sort of terrorist and threw her into a cell. Two uniformed women flanked by men with guns drawn came in the night for her, dragging her from her cell. Her feet and legs had fallen asleep and she was having trouble standing. "Stand up!" one of them ordered. Once in the office, they sat her down and demanded to know why she wouldn't talk to them, once again they were met with silence. They told her that her notebook in her bag was full of Dari so assumed that was the language she spoke and told her that was the language the would communicate with her in. However, again Parvana remained mute.Parvana continued her silence, not giving in to their taunts, torture, or mistreatment. She was a very strong girl, mentally. I guess when you've seen the horrors of war like Parvana has, it becomes easier and easier to keep your mouth shut about what you've seen and heard. Trusting people would be a huge issue, I'm sure.This was a riveting, page-turner that I didn't want to end. I felt bad that her mother died as she was the last connection to Parvana's family. Deborah Ellis always writes the most honest stories about real issues that gives us a bird's eye view of what some of these people go through. I'll be recommending Parvana to my friends.

By Amazon Customer A moving and inspiring story unfolded before me as I devoured every word Ellis put between the covers. I only wish it had been much longer than the two hundred one pages. This is a sequel in the Breadwinner Series and is so finely written, there is no need to read the first book to pick up where the last book left off."They should print poems on these packages...Soldiers on a battlefield would probably like to have something to read."Parvana is a fifteen year old Afghani girl picked up by American military troops as a suspected terrorist in a school bombing. While she sits confined to her cell, she reminisces about the past four years of her life to help her endure her restless days. The reader follows her journal of struggles in a war torn country where the same people doing the destruction (Americans) try and find blame where it will never be found.Truly a heartfelt story that will pull the heart strings of any parent or sister. By Kindle Customer This book provided a satisfying and exciting ending to the breadwinner series, this time the plots of the past books intertwine to create an intricate storyline. I would also recommend this book as a stand-alone book, as one doesn't need much prior knowledge of the past books to enjoy this novel. Though, I would think you should read the past ones to supplement ones knowledge and enhance the experience. Overall, this book, following Parvana as she is held in a military camp,with alternating chapters, is a beautifully crafted masterpiece giving insight to the world of Afghanistan and it's peoples. This is a book that makes you think,and brings out your emotions, I highly recommend it. 10/10!
