My Real Estate Nightmare has been hailed as "hilarious and clever" by critics. It describes the true story of real estate broker Bob Boog's attempt to help out a pony-loving California homeowner who rented out half her house to a family from her church - thinking they'd be good tenants. However, shortly after moving in, the tenants filed a restraining order against the owner and stopped paying rent. Due to the restraining order, the homeowner had to stay 100 yards away from the property, so Bob served the eviction papers on her redneck renters. (One angry young man had recently been released from the state penitentiary.)

Bob also managed to sell the property, despite the fact that it needed a new roof, without the tenants finding out about it. But as the saying goes, "No good deed ever goes unpunished." After all his hard work successfully evicting the tenants and closing escrow on the property, the pony-loving homeowner hired a top-notch lawyer to sue Bob. This lawyer has never lost a case and will teach Bob a lesson he will never forget! But just as cartoon character Wiley E. Coyote remained loyal to the Acme brand of products, no matter how badly he was injured by them, you too may find yourself rooting for the persistent realtor at the end of the story.

By AE Horn Bob Boog's hilarious--yet true--story of a real estate transaction gone terribly wrong will keep you in stitches. Whether you are a real estate pro or just a reader who loves to read a humor, you'll love Bob's story. Basically, anything that could go wrong, went wrong. Yet, the clever ending will also leave you impressed with the quick wit of the author.

Best Ebook Online Return of the Warriors: The Toltec Teachings - Volume I, by Théun Mares

First in the Toltec Teachings series, this book introduces the Warriors Path and the Toltec Path of Freedom. This is an experience-based approach to life, in which individuals are taught to value their own knowledge, gained through their own experience, more highly than information gained from others. Théun Mares introduces the basic concepts of this path, as well as the tools used by warriors in everyday life to build self belief, self-reliance and self empowerment – the true foundations for freedom. Our lives today are filled with change, and we are constantly brought face to face with confusion, uncertainty, violence and fear. In the face of upheaval how can we find any real happiness, purpose and meaning? It is easy for us to feel out of control, powerless and victimised. However, none of these options are going to help us very much. The Toltec Teachings show how we can learn to avoid feeling helpless, how we can take charge of the events in our lives so that we no longer feel so powerless. All you need to do is to take part. Return of the Warriors is about learning to find hope in a world which shows so little hope. It is about discovering value, when it seems to you that you have no value. It is about learning to believe in yourself enough to discover that your life is an adventure, that you do have a purpose that makes you unique, and that once you have found this purpose your life suddenly takes on true meaning. True personal growth requires action. Because we are all meant to participate fully in life, the concepts are not only practical - they also have to be lived. This is because true knowledge and personal growth only comes from experience – YOUR life experience. This also implies your ability to learn how to make your life work for you in practical terms, and so to discover purpose and meaning in your everyday life. Part of the world’s problems in excessive consumption and poor relationships lies in the fact that people are always looking outside of themselves for value, meaning and fulfilment. However, we try to show people that there is an enormous amount of beauty and magic in their ordinary lives – they just need the life skills to learn how to see it. There is also the problem that people nowadays live only in their minds. There is no place for the heart. And yet, we teach that life is a feeling and not an intellectual exercise – hence the importance of people learning how to get in touch with their hearts again.

Review "His prose is lucid and deep as he presents the principles of warriorship...The material will feel familiar to anyone who has spent time with Castaneda's work, although I found Théun's approach more straightforward and jargon-free." Napra Review (USA) "Approachable, practically-orientated...We are encouraged to become warriors in our own lives by strengthening the belief in our abilities, therefore shaping our destiny, our evolution, and finally finding our true path and place in the universe." Watkin's Books (United Kingdom) "Without a shadow of a doubt, this book's clarity offers a wide path to intellectual freedom, spiritual joy and utter personal power." Conscious Living (Australia)

Apples, a pig, and unrequited love - the Eternal Triangle. Piedmont is the gently humorous tale of former Washington-based columnist, Pierce Roberts, who thinks he’s ready for a change. To everyone’s surprise, Pierce says goodbye to his comfortable city life and moves to Virginia to take over his late uncle’s apple orchard. Concluding that he is, as he modestly puts it, the sun in the MacNair Orchard solar system, Pierce leaves the actual running of the place in the capable hands of Talmadge Feathers and his acerbic deputy, Umberto Tangherlini. Freed from the grind of operating a piece of Big Apple, Pierce focuses on his priorities: walking Joe (Pierce’s truffle hunting pig and sounding board), brooding over the unattainable Amy Truesdale, trying to decipher the haiku advertising the Special at the Nikko Cafe, and socializing at Cavanaugh’s Feed & General Supply. Pierce’s transition to gentleman farmer, though not without the usual bumps, progresses apace...until the Piedmont Environmental Strike Team (PEST) shakes Pierce's world!

The author proves it possible to write a story that is entertaining, thought-provoking, comic, and philosophical all at the same time. It's refreshing to see that quality reading material can still be found...at a time when most of what's available are stale crumbs mindlessly "spiced up" with pointless violence and other twisted constructs. Highly recommended!

It was amusing (I actually laughed out loud a couple times), entertaining, full of interesting characters, and had some a good plot line. A nice tale about a man leaving behind his DC life for a place in the country. As the book went on I could actually picture him in detail in my mind, which doesn't happen a lot for me. Some of the events that took place were surprising and made it a good read because it wasn't the same old "fish out of water" story. On the downside, there were two parts that seemed to jump out of nowhere, but I think it may have to do with reading on the Kindle rather than a paper book where there would have been white space to denote a scene change rather than just being in a different time/place when I "turned the page". The only other thing that bothered me was that Umberto was left a little too mysterious. I really wanted some more back story on him. Was he dating the waitress? How did he really feel about his boss? Why did it seem like he was hiding things? Maybe this could be a sequel.Obviously these issues weren't very big because I still gave it a 4 star review!!

By Melissa An intelligently funny book, the main character escapes the rat race of DC to a slower paced, rural, Virginia small town. The characters and plot are multi-dimensional, thought provoking, and as pleasant as the gently rolling hills of said region. I enjoyed my own respite from life's demands each time I was able to carve out time to read. Surprising friendships, a flavor of mystery, discovering home.

I did have fantastic hearing, mostly by virtue of being blind. But that couldn't actually mean that he's trying to tell me I have super powers, right?  Because that would be ridiculous. It wasn't the "sex talk" he expected. Phillip Sallinger's dad has told him he's a custodian--a guardian--and his genetically inherited power is telekinesis. He'll learn to move objects with his mind. Excited to begin superhero high school until he discovers he's assigned to a "special ed" class for disabled empowered kids, he suddenly feels like an outsider. Bullied, threatened, and betrayed, Phillip struggles, even as he and his friends--calling themselves the Ables--find ways to maximize their powers to overcome their disabilities, and are the first to identify the growing evil threatening humanity. As vital custodians disappear and the custodian leadership is mired in indecision, a mysterious and powerful figure taunts Phillip, and the enemy is poised to strike. But what if the next "one who does all," the multi-gifted custodian predicted to come, is one of the Ables? The Ables is a fast-paced, captivating debut novel from Jeremy Scott, a bold new voice in fantasy and sci-fi, and already a widely popular storyteller as co-creator and narrator of CinemaSins, a YouTube channel that has amassed more than 3.8 million subscribers in under two years.

Review The heroes of this wildly inventive and unpredictable superhero epic don't want to be ignored, or pitied, or placed on a pedestal. They want what all of us want: The chance to forge their own destiny. The fictional world The Ables inhabit struggles to admit it needs its team of Special Ed heroes. But it does, and I would say our pop culture landscape (and, you know, your bookshelf) needs them even more.        -David Wong        Executive Editor of Cracked.com and NY Times Bestselling Author

The book had me captivated the whole time I was reading it. Part of the reason it was so great was how original it was. The main characters all of whom have a disability of some form or another made the telling of this story very unique. I don't know about you but a disabled superhero story is something I have never read before. I have read a lot of superhero books before and while this may not be the absolute best of all of them it is definitely up there. I read this book all day for about 12 hours straight. It really is that good. If you're a fan of superhero books you need to read this one. If you're a fan of just great fiction you should read it too.

18 of 19 people found the following review helpful. A good idea, and even better execution. By Patrick J Loller I gave The Ables a five star review because I truly enjoyed the story, and think that it was an original and well executed idea. However, the finished product was difficult to read at points, and my immersion was broken at several points throughout the journey. If you are looking for a fast, well written, and original young adult story about truly ‘handicapable’ children, then The Ables is for you. Just be prepared to scratch your head over formatting, chapter design, and the occasional missed detail. Below are spoilers for the book, and I would recommend that anyone who is interested in reading it stop now.Let’s get the bad out of the way, and then end on a high note.First off, the entire formatting of the book was a confusing choice. Having non indented paragraphs with large spaces between them was distracting and difficult to ignore. My thought is that the author did this intentionally to imitate how I imagine brail might read. Large spaces to separate thoughts and an unattractive presentation that is easier for the blind to read. If that was an intention decision then I applaud the originality. If it wasn’t, well… I would just pretend that it was.I also noted several errors in formatting. One paragraph was split at the end leaving three words floating, another chapter ended on what I assume was supposed to be the heading of the following page, and several pages were left entirely blank. As a self-published author myself I understand how difficult it can be to catch everything, but some of these were fairly obvious, and a quick look would have found them.I also found myself confused on the time line of things. One chapter would end, then in the next the character says it’s been weeks when it only read like one day. I went back several times to ensure I didn’t miss anything. Another character who I originally thought was only deaf was then referenced as being both blind and deaf, and lastly the character’s blindness augmented by his friends sight was often confusing as to how he saw certain things, even after it was explained. I found myself thinking, how could he see that through his eyes? Are they both looking at that spot? Does he have sight now? A lot of that had to do with the No Power Zones that played a large part of the story. It wasn’t always clear when they were or weren’t inside of one, and a reminder from the character would have been helpful. These are just small issues that broke my immersion, and I only draw them out to make the point that I enjoyed this book so much; these things annoyed me for getting in the way. This is also a cinemasins book, so I feel the need to be extra nitpicky. On to the good, which there was a lot of, but I’ll only name a few.The main character was likeable, relatable, and I was constantly rooting for him to overcome. At no point did he seem weak or powerless, despite the hurdle he was forced to overcome. At the half way point of the book when they learned to use their powers together I was almost disappointed, as I wanted to see him kick ass as a totally blind superhero. Still, I was happy to follow him to the logical conclusion of the plot. The author did a fantastic job of treating his characters like normal well rounded people, who happened to have some hindrance in their day to day life. The book did not beat you over the head with trying to sympathize with the characters for their disabilities, instead it just treated them like any other character might be; nice, funny, sarcastic, and even mean. The self-deprecating humor and dialogue were so realistic, that I went out and googled to see if I somehow missed the author himself being blind. The story is well told, a blend of typical high school drama intermixed with super hero tropes, and with a running narrative of evil in the background that reminded me of the Harry Potter series. I was equally invested in both the struggle to fit into school as I was to see the characters take on the big bad. The twists were predictable, but still well done, and the character’s reaction to them made it worthwhile. I saw both of the big twists coming when the foreshadowing was introduced, but was still surprised by the way everyone handled it.All in all, it was a good first novel, and with an obvious hook for a sequel I have no doubt I’ll be enjoying the author’s work again in the future. I will probably buy the audio book just so I can enjoy the author’s voice outside a cinemasins video, and so I can see the story as he meant it to be heard.

22 of 25 people found the following review helpful. EWW The Ables in 300 words or less (no spoilers) By James B. The first thing you need to know is that 'The Ables' is written for a younger audience than you may expect given the content of the authors CinemaSins videos. This is a YA novel, very reminiscent of Harry Potter. The book centers around Phillip, a blind telekinetic and his group of friends, each of whom has a different superpower and disability that renders them an outcast even in the superhero community. But, over time, they learn to fight the forces of evil together.Like I said, the book is fairly Harry Potter-lite. Plain every-boy character discovers he has hidden powers and goes on adventures with them and his friends. In the beginning, the prose was decent, but nothing truly memorable. However, after the first third, Scott kicks the writing up a notch, taking his characters through some unexpected trials and tribulations I had not expected and were quite fun to read. That's not to say that they're weren't flaws. There was maybe one good female character worth mentioning, and her scenes are a blip in the radar of a 300 page book. The plot twists are all things anyone could see coming a mile away without even trying. And, of course, they're were a handful of notable plot holes. The only one I'll mention is that they do have healers, and they don't explain why they can't cure most of the disabilities. All in all, this book was mostly just average. If you like superheroes, you'll probably like this.BOOK SIN TOTALS: 4SENTENCE: SUMMER SCHOOL

They just randomly start jumping around to different plane types all of a sudden. Then they show astronauts training, but it's inside so how do you explain that type of plane to a toddler?I judged the book by it's cover and that's why only part of it is good.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Average By ML Lukewarm on this one but would still recommend as there aren't enough 5-8 minute reads for 2 year olds out there for my liking and this one fits that description. There's too much redundancy in some of the trains/scenes and I'd re-order the sequence of pages to something more thematically logical. Pictures are average but aren't full of some much detail that the kids will be transfixed on looking for little things for several minutes

Review from a English teacher/mom with an easily distracted 7yo minecraft fan By Keri As you can see from my profile, I don't write many reviews, though I am occasionally compelled to do so. This is one of those times.I have an MA in English, taught English in High School for years, and I'm not easily impressed. I also have a seven year old son, Ben, who is obsessed with all things minecraft and is highly distractible. His ability to read independently is coming along well, but this kind of chapter book is slightly beyond him, so I am happy to read to him for one hour at bedtime every night. His favorite books of all time used to be the Captain Underpants series, and I was thinking last night as I was reading this sixth book to him that although these Cubekid books are shorter, he enjoys them just as much as the ones by Dave Pilkey (and since that is true, I should write a review!. Because seriously, some of the stuff that other people are coming out with, that I have to suffer through reading? Wow.... There is a downside to the self publishing business to be sure.)On the flip side of the mess that is typically self publishing, we occasionally encounter a shining star like CubeKid. I am rarely impressed by any of the KindleUnlimited books I read to Ben at night, self published or not, never mind works published at the speed at which s/he puts them out. Cubekid is not just a hack, jumping on the minecraft/diary bandwagon. S/he is a bonafide author, spinning authentic and enthralling stories with witty dialogue that is the most enjoyable work to read out loud I have encountered in the past year (maybe ever, to be honest... there is such a smooth flow to reading these books out loud that I look forward to our bedtime reading time, and I have a hard time putting my kindle down when my son starts yawning and is clearly ready to go to sleep. *I* want to know what happens next!).I'd be shocked if Cubekid wasn't eventually picked up by a major publishing house. S/he is a diamond in the rough (and not that rough--clearly, s/he has a firm grasp on all aspects of writing a good story). Are these stories perfect? No, absolutely not. There are minor errors here and there--but not enough to detract from the overall story or our enjoyment of it as a family (my ten year old daughter, Katie, listens in, too). When we saw book six was out yesterday, we all literally cheered and made up a "cubekid" chant/dance. I won't describe it to you, as that would be too embarrasing, but suffice it to say we were off the charts excited to have a new book by him/her.Thanks for putting out such great work, Cubekid. Your fan base is fully earned--and we are firmly a part of it. Ben and Katie send you a solid two thumbs up, and I do too--and six thumbs? Practically unheard of in our world.

DOAWV:Book 6 By GarnetOfTheCrystalGems I was getting kinda frustrated waiting for new books in series I like to come out.So imagine my surprise when I saw TWO new Diary Of A Wimpy Villager books out! I immediately downloaded books 6&7 and read both in minutes. These books keep getting more amazing as they go on. Turning Max from a bully into a hero was such a creative idea! At first I downloaded DOAWV(Diary Of A Wimpy Villager) as a timewaster, another mediocre Minecraft book. But I quickly realized that this series was just as good as, if not better than, Jeff Kinney's Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series. In this book, we find out how truly cruel Pebble is, how truly crafty Max is, and how truly jealous Urf is. I hope you enjoy this whole series. Keep writing on, Cube Kid. Also, Check out my review of Book 7.

Too many Minecraft books are poorly written and are completely boring. But your books are different. You writing is truly magnificent. The stories end in suspenseful cliff hangers. It is the kind of normal but interesting life book (even though it takes place in Minecraft), such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, that are entertaining. Cube Kid, I hope you never stop writing. Now, I will make some guesses about Book 7. I think that Breeze is the girl following Runt around and she is #3 with her scores. For the forest, I think there is some type of powerful monster in it. Finally, I think Steve will stop thinking about crafting Earth food. He will realize, after several attempts, that it is impossible. He will finally accept that he might not ever get home, so he needs to help the villagers.I think the series should be 12 books long. On the final book, Runt and Stump graduate as warriors and Steve and Mike go home to Earth, but they visit Runt's village as players.

On my iPad mini it is completely pixelated and blurry. All the other Archie Kindle comic compilations I have purchased similar to this one are razor sharp. Click on the cover to "Look Inside" and you will see the problem. I wish I had done this before purchasing it. I am going to attempt to return it and get a refund. This seems like a great issue and I can only hope they see the problem and fix it. If so I will order it again.

The city is enchanted. Not in that Disney way where everything is all moonbeams and fairy princesses. No, chaotic magic is taking over, and it's up to people like Gina to stop it. Why Gina? Well, the problem with magic is that we've been trained to believe in a real world that doesn't include it, which is why most of the city's inhabitants would rather bury their heads in the sand and ignore the chaos. But Gina isn't like the rest of them - she's got a definite inability to ignore what's bothering her. Yes, inability. That's the word. You should be thankful that she's so obsessive - the Earth's future depends on it. The Enchanted City is a comedic urban fantasy, and is book one in the Magic series.

From #1 New York Times bestselling authors Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer, OFF THE PAGE is a tender and appealing YA novel filled with romance, humor, and adventure. Delilah and Oliver shouldn’t be together. But they are together. And just as they’re getting used to the possibility that happily ever after may really, truly be theirs, the universe sends them a message they can’t ignore: they won’t be allowed to rewrite their story. Delilah and Oliver must decide how much they’re willing to risk for love and what it takes to have a happy ending in a world where the greatest adventures happen off the page. “Off the Page is just so sweet and magical. In high school, I would have given ANYTHING to crawl inside one of my favorite books to escape the real world. I wish!”—SARAH DESSEN, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Saint Anything

Off the Page, by Jodi Picoult, Samantha van Leer

From School Library Journal Gr 7 Up—Picoult and van Leer dive back into the realm of fairy tales coming true in this companion to Between the Lines (Delacorte, 2012). Storybook prince turned real-life boyfriend, Oliver, has started high school with his true love, Delilah. Despite a few social mishaps, Oliver (being referred to as Edgar, whose place he had to take in order to escape the pages of the book) finds himself on the fast track to popularity, much to Delilah's chagrin. The two have just started to work through their new problems, when they discover something is wrong in the book from which Oliver originated. The story seems to be rewriting itself and the real Edgar (who took Oliver's place in the story) doesn't know how to lead the other characters. Soon, bigger problems arise, with more real-life beings and storybook characters switching places unintentionally, and the book's author, Edgar's mom, Jessamyn, falling ill. Is happily ever after a dream still out of reach? Readers need to have read the first title in order to follow the plot and they will easily find themselves pulled back into the world of Oliver, Delilah, and Edgar. Strong narrative voices keep the alternating chapters from becoming confusing, and the cultural references are spot-on, although they may cause the book to feel dated in a short time. VERDICT A fun, fairy-tale romance for teens who believe in happily ever after. Recommended.—Heather Webb, Worthington Libraries, OH

By Stephanie Ward 'Off the Page' is a cute and light-hearted young adult romance that blurs the line between fantasy and reality. The book is considered a companion novel to 'Between the Lines', but can be read as a standalone. I hadn't read 'Between the Lines' beforehand, and I could follow everything that happened just fine. Looking back, I wish I would have read 'Between the Lines' first because it gives a better understanding of the characters, their relationship, and the obstacles they had to overcome to get Oliver into Delilah's world. Although not completely necessary, I would highly recommend reading 'Between the Lines' before jumping into this one.I found this novel to be a wonderful romantic distraction from what I normally read. I don't usually go for contemporary romance, but the synopsis for the book had me instantly curious as to how the story could be passed as realistic. I'm definitely glad I gave it a chance! Sometimes you just need a break from your usual genres, and I admit that I can be a ridiculously sappy romantic given the right situations. I found a perfect blend of both romance and fantasy within these pages. The characters were well written - especially our two main characters - Delilah and Oliver. They both have very distinct personalities with obvious flaws, strengths, and weaknesses. I could almost immediately connect with both of them, especially Delilah, from the very beginning. The secondary characters in the book were also written in a rounded, distinct way that made them seem just as realistic as the main characters did.The book is written in first person point of view, from three different characters - Delilah, Oliver, and Edgar. The story is broken down into separate chapters/sections, depending on who is narrating at the time. If you've read any of my reviews, you know how much point of view matters to me. First person POV is, by far, my favorite style. The reader gets to know so much more than just the surface story - we're privy to the narrator's inner thoughts, emotions, hopes, dreams, fears, everything that makes them unique. This style also allows the reader to see the story unfold from the narrator's perspective, which can be entirely different than another character's would be. By using first person POV, I really believe that the author takes the story to a deeper level. In this novel, we have the opportunity to truly get to know and understand three different characters - and how each one of them responds to events in the story. By the end of the book, I felt like I really knew our three narrators, which created a strong connection with each of them individually and made them feel very realistic. It let me experience the story from three differing sides, along with seeing how each character felt and reacted during the book. It was an exciting experience as well as a roller coaster ride of emotions - but I wouldn't have it any other way.The plot of the book is fascinating - mainly because of Oliver's character and how he came to be with Delilah. If you put all of that magic and fantasy to the side, you're left with a beautiful story about true love, obstacles that people have to overcome, and what happily-ever-after really means. Like I mentioned above, this was a huge roller coaster of emotions for me. I found myself grinning like an idiot at the book during some parts, while during others I was close to tears or crying my eyes out. It was written with such detailed description and imagery that I was able to slip inside the story almost instantly at the beginning. I felt as if I was right there with the characters as everything in the book happened - and I felt what they were feeling, whether it was happy, sad, confused, or a mix of different emotions. There is no way that I could have simply read this book - it was an experience that will stick with me for a long time to come. I can't say enough about this book, but my only regret was not reading Between the Lines first. I would have had a better understanding of all the characters - from the main ones to the smallest of appearances - along with more knowledge of the history behind the story and how it all came to be. I very highly recommend this novel to every reader - even those who don't normally read this genre. It's an enchanting story written with amazing talent, and everyone should experience it. I definitely recommend it to fans of contemporary fiction, fantasy, and romance - you really need to read this book!Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Clever & funny at times, but glaring holes and plot devices make it unlovable By Augustin J. Cavalier This book is a mixed bag. The concept at the heart of it was original and brilliant, but the execution of the concept was subpar at best, and it doesn't remain faithful to the style of the fairy tales that it takes a page from. I don't recommend reading it.(This review contains significant spoilers for the preceding book, and moderate ones for this one.)As the description says, this is the sequel to the story about a girl who falls in love with a prince who is a character in a book, yet somehow alive. Her discovery of this and the "falling in love" part was mostly dealt with in the first book (Between the Lines), which I think was better than this was, but still not that great. We know that Prince Oliver (and all the other characters in said book) were "alive" in the sense that they can think and communicate, but they don't have blood and they can't leave the book, a source of much frustration to Delilah, who obviously wants to be with Oliver. As the reader, we aren't told too much about the physics of this: Since the author of the book Prince Oliver comes out of doesn't seem to know that Oliver is actually alive, so how did he get that way? How is Prince Oliver allowed to "trick" the book in order to escape, but then it wants him back? It's almost as if the book is sentient, too. None of this is ever explained, and aside from some of the more major Deus ex Machinas that save the plot from going nowhere, it's almost possible to put it on the back burner. Some other reviewers have commented about the scenes between Oliver and Delilah as being "nauseating", but aside from some cliches, they're pretty decent. The main part I take issue with is that the majority of the trouble Prince Oliver has in fitting into high school is about the relationships, and not about the coursework. He just arrived on Earth out of a fairy-tale kingdom and picks up how to use computers and graphing calculators in a few months? He doesn't have any more trouble in chemistry than Delilah? He gets a perfect score of 2400 on the SAT?! I get A grades for the most part, but I had to take the SAT four times to get a score I thought was pretty good. There's no indication Oliver had so much as an algebra class in the fairytale kingdom he's from. The only part of Oliver's interactions at school that makes sense is him being a wizard at acting Shakespeare – which I commend the authors for writing in. Very clever.I'll refrain from spoiling too much, but it doesn't get better from there, sadly. Some more of the characters from the book comes out into the real world, and one of them dies, the fairytale physics of which are never explained (since nobody can die inside the book, and the fairytale characters that come out of the book don't have human blood). The book continues to fall to pieces and attempts to persuade Oliver to go back into it. The sequence of events that happens after this makes very little sense, includes a love triangle, and results in the author of the book Prince Oliver is from cheating death (from disease) by going into the book to live... forever? That's not explained either. Oh, and Edgar (Oliver's lookalike from Earth, the author's son) decides to go with her, sacrificing his love life (eternally!) so that Oliver and Delilah can have theirs (temporarily!). Which essentially alienates most teenage boys reading the book, as Edgar is the one they probably relate to the best.Perhaps if the fairytale physics of this were explained better, I might like this book more. But they aren't, so instead, I finished the book quite frustrated. Yes, true love requires sacrifice. But doesn't it require sacrifice *on the part of the people in love*? Why is Edgar so willing to sacrifice his love life for Oliver and Delilah? If the authors were trying to make a point about sacrifice, why is it that they allow Edgar's mother to escape death by entering the fairytale world? None of this was explained, and I'm not sure there even is a good explanation possible. So as it is, it's not exactly possible to like this book.

This novel is a companion novel to Between The Lines. Also my copy was an ark, with only some of the illustrations in place. So what I describe in this review may not apply to the version of the book you read. This book will be great for those who are romantic and young at heart. If you're a cynic on love you may not like this, because it does lay the sweetness of love on thickly. The novel centers around the aftermath of Between The Lines, more specifically we get to see the rest of Oliver and Delilah's love story. Watch Oliver try to navigate his way through a high school after living his life as a fairy tale prince. Delilah his one true love is here to help, having brought him from his world to hers. But not everything is happily ever after now, the book he left behind his falling apart without him, refusing the story that he left it with. Edgar the boy who agreed to take his place in the story is becoming homesick. Then there's an influx of trouble as the two worlds try to coexist. The illustrations in the novel that I've seen are beautiful and very detailed, they add a nice touch to the story. There's cover art above the chapters as well. For my taste I found the book to be a little too sweet. I mean it had considerably more depth then you'd think, death being an underlying theme in it. But I found that the love scenes and descriptions were a little much for me. I'm a bit of a cynic though, so when I read about two people describing each other as perfect every time they see each other, I get a little queasy. But for fans of such pure romance it'll be a really good read.Even though this is a companion novel, it can be read separately and still be understood completely. Although if you like this I would recommend you go read the other novel, just to get a better perspective on this one.

It is very accessible, hopeful, and practical for both parents and children. The author obviously has a lot of experience working with families with at least one struggling child. I so appreciate his support for those kids, and also for the whole family. Our family is using the concepts outlined in this book and has experienced a noticeable decline in the tension in our home, allowing us to actually enjoy each other again.

Hoeffel This book was a huge help to my family, and it is delivered in a very accessible, easy-to-read, and easy-to-implement way. Kenny really has a great grasp of the problems that kids face today, and the way that those problems can be addressed and helped by involving the whole family in the solution. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Finally, a dad book that is practical, deep, AND readable By Vaughn Kohler Larry Hagner has done something special with this book. Somehow he's managed to put together something that is deep, moving, practical - and very readable. He cuts through the fluff and cliche that's true of so many parenting books out there. His tips and insight to "up your dad game" are simple to understand, but not simplistic. Seriously, this is one helpful book. And if you can get through the chapter where he pretty much lays his heart on the line and tells the horrific (but life-changing) story of how he and his wife lost a child, if you can get through that without getting choked up a bit, I wonder if you have a heart. It's deeply moving. Do your wife, kids, and YOURSELF a favor: Pick up a copy of this book. And do what it says.

It offers practical tips to improve not only parenting, but relationships and self worth, as well. Larry, in a vulnerable way, invites the reader into his life, his struggles and most importantly, his successes in order to show that as imperfect humans, we have the choice of how we view what our lives hold. His work is called "The Dad's Edge", but is beneficial to ALL and as a single female with no children, I found myself shaking my head in agreement to his suggestions as well as deeply touched by his entire story and how it has unfolded him into the now. I would and definitely will highly recommend this book to many, as it is not necessary to be a dad in order to get something out of his message.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Must Read for Every Dad/Husband Looking to be the Best that they can be! By Tim Hauze Fantastic ideas! Larry does a remarkable job of describing his experiences, and how he has drawn on them to improve himself. The Dad's Edge will change your outlook on parenting and relationships, so that you have the techniques to take on a more positive outlook and find the "better you." Larry's work is different from other similar books in that he doesn't prescribe what you need to do, but he explains how his life and parenting experiences have helped him develop techniques that can useful to anybody to adopt and apply to their own life. My goals are to be the best dad and best husband that I can be, and always looking for new ideas on how to achieve those goals. The ideas that Larry presents are the simplest and best that I've found in any book!

“The Canterville Ghost” is a parody featuring a dramatic spirit named Sir Simon and the United States minister (ambassador) to the Court of St. James's, Hiram B. Otis. Mr. Otis travels to England with his family and moves into a haunted country house. Lord Canterville, the previous owner of the house, warns Mr. Otis that the ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville has haunted it ever since he killed his wife, Eleonore, three centuries before. But Mr. Otis dismisses the ghost story as bunk and disregards Lord Canterville’s warnings. When the Otises learn that the house is indeed haunted, they succeed in victimizing the ghost and in disregarding age-old British traditions. What emerges is a satire of American materialism, a lampoon of traditional British values, and an amusing twist on the traditional gothic horror tale.

The Canterville Ghost, by Oscar Wilde

About the Author Oscar Wilde was born on October 16, 1854, to the Irish nationalist and writer Speranza Wilde and the doctor William Wilde. After graduating from Oxford in 1878, Wilde moved to London, where he became notorious for his sharp wit and flamboyant style of dress. Though he was publishing plays and poems throughout the 1880s, it wasn t until the late 1880s and early 1890s that his work started to be received positively. In 1895, Oscar Wilde was tried for homosexuality and was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison. Tragically, this downfall came at the height of his career, as his plays, An Ideal Husband "and The Importance of Being Earnest, "were playing to full houses in London. He was greatly weakened by the privations of prison life, and moved to Paris after his sentence. Wilde died in a hotel room, either of syphilis or complications from ear surgery, in Paris, on November 30, 1900.

A light and humorous story, and after reading it's guaranteed to stop you worrying about things that go bump in the night.

Excellent narration and a wonderful listening experience By Z Hayes Thanks to our local library, my daughter and I have enjoyed several playaways which are basically all-in-one audiobooks. All one needs is a triple A battery and one is set to go. At our local library, patrons are expected to supply their own batteries and headphones (the latter because of hygiene concerns). They are really small and inconspicuous so that it makes it convenient to slip into a purse, bring it along to the gym or while exercising outdoors, and also on car trips. Although it is an all-in-one audiobook, the playaway can also be heard via a CD player with the use of an adapter. The operation of the playaway is simple - one just plugs in earphones, speakers, or a car adapter into the provided jack; press the POWER button, press the play button, and listen! There is a keypad which allows the listener to do one of the following: equalizer, Power button, speed button (choice of 5 speeds), turning volume up, turning volume down, LCD screen which indicates the status and how much battery power is left, reverse button for chapters, play/pause button, and forward chapter button. The Canterville Ghost has always been one of my favorite stories and Rupert Degas' comic-infused narration makes this an engaging listening experience.

By Ruthie McBride The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde is a highly entertaining book. 5 stars for this wonderful book, I've read and re-read it many times. Whoever wrote the description for this illustrated edition for Amazon is completely mistaken. I downloaded a free sample to see if maybe there were two versions of this book but the sample that downloaded is the original book. The mistaken description states: "In the 1600s, cowardly Sir Simon of Canterville flees a duel and seeks solace in the family castle. His ashamed father seals him in the room where he is hiding and dooms him to life as a ghost until one of his descendants performs a brave deed. Simon believes he may be saved when he meets Cuffy Williams, an American kinsman stationed with a troop of soldiers at the castle in 1943. Will this blood relative save the family honor, or will his blood be as yellow as the rest of the Cantervilles?" Perhaps that's describing a different novel? No matter though, the true book is much more entertaining and the illustrations for this edition are quite nice.

By Mathew L Powers A terrific guide presented by an empathetic mum, but also supported by countless medical journals and trusted medical practitioners. Morning Sickness Survival Gide deftly provides an expecting mum with an ability to understand her symptoms, understand she is not alone, and discover methods with which to survive day-to-day life while experiencing moments of nausea. More than that, the guide has a wonderful personal touch - it talks about the entire scope of pregnancy, yet it reads as if Lisa is talking directly to the reader, one-on-one. This is not just an information booklet, this is truly a survival guide.
