This book is highly relatable and relevant to today's girls. The analogies using Disney princes will capture any females attention. The authors lead you through personal experience dealing with infatuation, conversations with God, and powerful prayers you can pray for your own prince charming, complete with scriptures ! I'll be implementing a few of those for my man. Most practical is the revelation presented that boys, as adorable as they can be, are not the perfect princes that girls conjure up in their dreamy minds. This book makes it clear that through faith and patience and prayer one can be encouraged to wait on God's perfect timing to have Mr. Right "enter stage right". Meanwhile, a girl can grow in the most important relationship of her life with Jesus Christ and know that He is refining her prince charming at the same time.Getting a hold of this book now will likely save you some disappointment and heartache, but mostly you'll be encouraged to live for Christ and have a greater understanding of how He views you as His lovely princess.

By Candace Loyd Beauty, Boys, and Ball gowns is an inspiring, challenging, and relevant book for not only today's girls, but women as well! Olivia, the creator of Crown of Beauty Magazine, knows exactly how to keep it light and fluffy while also reaching to the core of who we are as ladies and stirring something up for the glory of God. God desires that we know who we are and whose we are and Beauty, Boys, and Ball Gowns brings God's heart for His ladies to the forefront. After reading this book, I left feeling encouraged and challenged to seek God's heart and will for me even more, especially in the hard seasons where I become restless and ready to move on with the next step. Thank you Olivia for loving your sisters enough to "sharpen" us! "As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens another." -Proverbs 27:17

The Crown of Beauty Magazine founder, Olivia Jarmusch, describes the glorious reality of all who belong to Jesus. For me, this book strips away the desire to be like this world and ignites a passion to follow the calling God has placed on our lives. Jarmusch uses great analogies and has filled these pages with the Word of God. I encourage everyone to not only read this great book but to soak up the truths found on every page.

Long before the half-faerie Melia was born in the mortal world, the god Vulcan married Isolt of the Waters. When she betrayed him, the seeds of a great war were planted in the Void. In Idonne, a young scholar studies Isolt’s story, along with tales of dwarf magic and the birth of a malevolent entity in the Void, Umbra. The stories inspire his dream of a life filled with adventure and heroism. Whimsical and edgy, Daughter of Light is a high fantasy with an intriguing cosmology and well-developed characters. Readers who enjoyed The Lord of the Rings and Throne of Glass will likely enjoy this series. The Daughter of Light fantasy trilogy: Isolt’s Enchantment, the beginnings (Free) I loved the beauty of the world when Vulcan first meets Una, and I especially enjoyed the explanation of Umbra. Isolt’s vengeance was absolutely delicious, and I could recommend this book based solely on that scene.—Erica at Fantasy Book Lane Half Faerie, Book 1 I found myself sharing emotions with several characters and my husband would walk by just shaking his head, he doesn’t understand books and what they can do. I highly recommend this book. I want to thank Heidi Garrett for making my otherwise boring life so exciting with her books, I am loving it, every single minute! Five stars for Half Faerie. —KJ at Kj Reads A Lot Half Mortal, Book 2 The pace picks up quite a bit as the stakes are raised in Half Mortal, the second book in this epic coming of age fantasy trilogy. I can totally understand why the comparison to LoTR has been drawn, as Melia and her cohorts battle numerous foes as they attempt to make things right- in both realms.—Mama Reads, Hazel Reads War & Grace, Book 3 (Coming in 2016!)

By Jodi P This prequel to Half Faerie introduces a wonderful back story of characters, places and worlds that lead into the next book. Many magical and mortal people lives intertwine and not always with positive results. This tale weaves interesting elements of love, loss, betrayal, and the uncovering of secrets and hidden agenda's. The author weaves a story that wants the reader to follow the journey's of the mortal and "enchanted ones" as they learn how their lives are affected by the others and their deeds. If you love stories with faeries (winged and not winged), trolls, mages (dark faeries), Gods, and other fantasy characters this story will engulf you, and leave you wanting more. The author provides a nice glossary of characters and worlds mentioned in the story. It is included near the end of the book. The story flows and the characters parts make sense to evolve the story. I look forward to reading the next books in the series. I feel I have a good base to go on before moving on to the next. I love the characters and I am intrigued about the worlds in which they reside. As a person who loves the fantasy genre, this book provides it all. Looking forward to the next part of the journey. I will be cheering on the main character Ryder as he finds out who he is, where is from and what is his destiny. Thank you to the author who sent me an arc for review. I love the story and applaud her for creating a wonderful magical tale that feeds my Fae genre addiction.

Beautiful Fantasy World By Fantasy Book Lane Young Ryder learns the epic histories of the Realm of Faerie and longs to travel there himself.First and foremost, this book is a teaser to entice readers to enjoy more books in the series. I grabbed this on a free download, and I must say that it certainly served its purpose. This is a delightful teaser, and I'd love to read more of the story.Ryder is ready to take his vows as a priest, or well sort of. He doesn't have much interest in it. He wants to be a Guard. But in order to pursue his dream, he has to take his vows and continue his mentor's work.Ryder's story is actually quite small. The majority of the narrative is the stories he reads in the scrolls, information regarding the Realm of Faerie. I enjoyed those stories very much. I loved the beauty of the world when Vulcan first meets Una, and I especially enjoyed the explanation of Umbra. Isolt's vengeance was absolutely delicious, and I could recommend this book based solely on that scene. This is high fantasy in a realm that has been developed quite nicely by the author. She has carefully crafted her world, and I enjoyed taking this short stroll through its history.

By Tonja Drecker I read this book as the first in the series (although I'm guessing from the .5 that it was later added on) but in a way, I wish I would have read it later on. In Isolt's Enchantment, the main characters are somewhat introduced along with the missing holes of their backgrounds--and what interesting backgrounds they are!We meet Ryder's mother (the scholar who studies Isolt's story) and the tragic story behind his birth as well as up-bringing. Through nicely placed re-tellings, which he is forced to study as a priest, Isolt's story comes to life. The author does a great job weaving these ancient myths in, and although we only get them through Ryder's studies, the characters still come to life. I think I was even more excited than him to find out what would happen next.Ryder's part in the story felt more jarred. Although he is the main character, and we learn about everything that will drive him in the later story, his story feels a little incomplete. He is a very intriguing character, and it's easy to feel for him as he struggles against what he wants and what those around him want for him. Still, this first book leaves him hanging a bit, and since book 1 doesn't pick up with him for several chapters, this left me wishing to learn what happens with him sooner. In other words, this book is simply not a stand-alone, and if the reader goes into it knowing this and remembering this, all is good and well.I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

27 of 28 people found the following review helpful. It got better!!! We love interacting with our little guy now! By MBM This book has been SO WONDERFUL!!!!!!! I have the second edition from a year ago and it has tons of markings in it. So far, I haven't compared the two editions to see how different they are.I'm so grateful for the tools and mindset that this book gave me. I felt punished every day for over a year. "Why did I have to get this child? I don't want this one. Take him back, please!" I also had terrible postpartum depression at the time, which made everything worse than it already was, plus my son had one of the five worst cases of colic I've ever heard of, and I've heard a LOT of stories of people trying to sympathize but being unable to even imagine the hell we went through in our son's first year.(By the way, we feel like our son's nature contributed to the colic and other first-year problems, which is part of why the book has been able to help. He was persistent and knew exactly what he wanted, but he couldn't express it. His body is irregular but needed some degree of regularity imposed so he would sleep at all. He is very sensitive to how much sleep he gets. He is energetic and intense and could scream for three hours straight without falling asleep. He didn't know how to cope with big emotions in a little body, so he screamed more. But now he is two years old and really a joy.)Now, we have a wonderful, curious, passionate, loving, interesting, smart, adorable little two-year-old.The most helpful things were these:1) The book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child saved our lives first. It got our son sleeping AT ALL and then sleeping on a predictable schedule, which we all desperately needed. After he was rested, we could finally start working on other things.2) Sign language. We started signing before he was even 8 months old, and it helped immensely. Our son is very spirited and knows EXACTLY what he wants. It was absolutely crucial that we were able to communicate with him to figure out what he wanted.3) This book. A) As I was pulling out of my postpartum depression, it was crucial that I reframe my thinking about my son. I loved the early chapter on using positive labels for our kids - determined instead of inflexible, curious rather than dragging his feet, spirited instead of hellish (yes, I did say that one), energetic instead of drives me crazy, and so forth. B) The chapter on tantrums has helped immensely. He just turned two, which is when many people see tantrums. Not with a spirited child! Anyone with a spirited child knows that the "tantrums" -- the incessant screaming for three hours, the strength of a four year old when your infant hits you in anger -- start at birth. For months, several times a day, I have been using the author's suggestions for tantrums. Not only are her specific strategies helpful (hold him, talk him through it, name the emotions for him, tell him he doesn't have to deal with the emotions on his own) but also the mindset she describes. I don't know how many times I've told myself lines from the book:--"He will be a WONDERFUL adult. This trait is difficult to parent, but it will make a wonderful adult and friend later."--"This isn't a personal attack. He is overwhelmed with his intense emotions and needs me to teach him how to cope. He's not trying to punish me."--"My child is in a spillover tantrum. I don't need to go there, too."--"Stop and think, listen, talk to him. What part of his nature has just been threatened?" C) Feeling less alone was wonderful. I hate it when the old ladies nod their heads and are like, "Yes, kids are difficult," and smile. My grandmas said that until they were around my son for more than two hours straight. Then they said, "Oh my goodness, does he EVER stop moving? No wonder you have him in daycare! You would physically break down and have no energy left if you tried to follow him everywhere." I love reading this book and being like, "No, my kid isn't a freak. He's just more spirited and energetic than most people can imagine, so when they say those trite, idiotic phrases, I can just let it go. They are talking about a different kind of child. My child is like five of their children. I can let it go."All in all, I am SO GRATEFUL that the author wrote this book. It has really saved us.And now, as he is turning two years old, he is better than ever. I promise, it's possible! I LOVE my passionate, intense, loving, curious little guy! He reminds me of myself and his dad (we were both spirited children). Our beginning was absolute hell, but with good tools, including this book, he has gotten better and better. On good days, I can't imagine a more perfect, wonderful child. Mary is right - we ARE the lucky ones! I can't imagine having a dull, uninterested, passive child.Of course, on bad days, I want to drive to my parents' house and leave him there for a week. But we have tools now to work through it, and we're doing alright. Life is so much better now.(p.s. do not feel guilty if you need to put your energetic, social child into daycare. I remind myself, "I take care of myself and do what I need while he's at daycare so that when he gets home, I can be the mom I want to be. Because he is in daycare and I am able to do my self-care, our interactions are positive mostly. If I were watching him at home all day, we would never have a single positive interaction in a day. Daycare supports his curious, energetic, social, sensitive nature.)

23 of 26 people found the following review helpful. I also love the focus on changing the labels we use for ... By Amazon Customer I have read a whole lot of parenting books, and gather little tidbits of info from most of them. In most cases, I find that I use the techniques while I am reading the book, they work okay without making a huge difference, and then they fade out of use once I finish the book. This book is far more helpful - I don't let the techniques I have learned fade away, because they just work so darn well. One that has worked particularly well for my very persistent 2-year-old daughter is giving her a choice even when I clearly know what I want - for instance, 'You have a choice. You can either get in your car seat by yourself, or I can help you. If you aren't in your carseat by the count of 3, then I will know you are choosing to have me put you in.' This is a lot to say, and I found myself stumbling over my words a LOT at first, but I kept at it because it really worked for her. It gives her the sense of making an independent decision, while also helping me get what I need from her most of the time. I also love the focus on changing the labels we use for our spirited children to positive ones - I initially saw that as just 'fluff', but when I started actively trying to use positive labels instead of negative ones, I noticed distinct differences in both my behavior and my daughter's behavior. I don't think there is any other parenting book that has made as huge a difference in the peacefulness of our house than this one. That being said, not all of the techniques in the book have worked wonders for us. You just have to see which ones make sense for your child. For instance, my son isn't really responding to us giving him a choice yet. But, he is also not very 'spirited', so that's okay!Highly, highly recommended! If I had to recommend one book to parents, this would be it.

I'm still in the process of reading this book but the first half has totally changed my relationship with my 4 year old daughter for the better. We went through a very difficult year when she turned 3. I wish I would have read this then. It would have saved me a year of frustration and tears. Just understanding why she was fighting me on certain issues has helped me have an immense amount of compassion and patience with her. It also helped me realize it wasn't my fault and I wasn't alone.

30 of 30 people found the following review helpful. Intense, Imaginative - But Violent Story ... By delicateflower152 "Mouseheart" is an intense, imaginative story encompassing totalitarian societies, relocation camps, and rebellion. Parents who expect Lisa Fiedler's novel, recommended for ages 8 - 12 years old, to exude charm and humor may be disappointed in this book's theme and content. However, those seeking novels that can provide lessons based on history and more complex, erudite writing than is often found in books for the targeted age group may like this novel. Fiedler's description of learning to read as being given the key to a secret code is lovely; the majority of "Mouseheart" is, however, not as light or inspirational.Hopper, a mouse for sale in a pet shop, his sister Pinkie and little brother Pup escape when the store owner opens their cage. Separated from one another on the streets of Brooklyn, Hopper finds himself in subterranean environs. Rescued by the rat Prince Zucker, Hopper is taken to the city Atlantia. There, Zucker introduces Hopper to the Emperor Titus who is Zucker's father. Hopper is puzzled by graffiti telling citizens to beware of "Mus"; this becomes an integral part of the story as the book progresses. Hopper begins to succumb to the life in Atlantia and to believe Emperor Titus is a benevolent ruler seeking to relocate mice and other small rodents from refugee camps to new homes. Only as the action progresses, does Hopper begin to realize he has not seen the truth or recognized the reality of what is happening."Mouseheart" is filled with images of violence and bloodshed. Beginning in the prologue where the cat Cyclone becomes Cyclops due to his eye being pierced by an iron bar through the final chapter in which Zucker learns his mother was "dispatched" with the latest group of colonists, "Mouseheart" is dark and filled with disturbing images. Similarities to pre-World War II Europe, Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler, and the Nazi "purification" mentality are evident. The Resistance movement is present, as well. Spiritual allusions to both the "prophet" La Rocha and "the Chosen One" are also components of the story.Characters are not especially charming or appealing. None were so memorable that the reader felt any emotion toward or sympathy for them.Parents may want to read "Mouseheart" prior to giving it to children in the targeted age group. Children who are more sensitive or emotional may find this book disquieting. It is definitely not a bedtime read-aloud book for younger children who are able to have "chapter books" read to them. While I liked Lisa Fiedler's intelligent writing and style, "Mouseheart" did not appeal to me. The four star rating is based on Fiedler's skill as a writer and not on the story.

A little too graphically violent for my kids By Just Trying to Help Mouseheart is a well written book with a storyline that younger readers will likely enjoy more than older readers.Unfortunately, I was a bit turned off from the very beginning when one of the cats hits a fence and "blood gushes from his eye socket". Despite this garish wound, the mouse prince is still able to parley with the cat and secure future ability to come and go as he pleases. I think that the blood gushing part could have been left out entirely, if anything, it should have made parley impossible.Fortunately, the book divulges this darker side right from the beginning, and I commend the author for doing so and not leaving it until the middle or the end. This book is filled with this sort of drama. I haven't read the "redwall" books which this is supposed to be similar to, but my daughter does read the Warriors manga series. I found this book to be more violent than what she's reading now.No doubt this will make a great animated movie, and in this case, I think the movie will probably be better than the book.

Belle When I was a younger kid, I was reading books beyond my age group. I am a huge fan of clever rodent stories, as I have mentioned in other reviews, namely Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. I am always searching for something that gives me the curiosity and wonder I felt when reading that book, which is why I picked up Mouseheart in the first place. That being said, this book is very violent. As another person has mentioned, the scene where the cat guard Cyclone becomes Cyclops had me rather disturbed. I realize that in the animal world, it is every rat or mouse for themselves but this story seemed to thrive on making the reader uncomfortable. When we learn the real purpose for Atlantia's refugee camps, which you can figure out before the big reveal, it is rather bothersome.I also found Hopper to be a disappointing hero. He seems to understand all these things far beyond the pet shop, yet expresses gross naiveté for most of the story when it comes to things that really matter. The story is about a mouse (Hopper) who escapes the pet shop and leaves his tiny brother behind. After getting swept into the sewer and separated from his sister, he meets Zucker, a prince who is dissatisfied with his royal father's ways. Zucker and Hopper become friends and Hopper gets treated like royalty by Zucker's father the emperor for nefarious reasons. Mixed in with this are the dreaded "Mus" alleged savage beasts (actually, they are just mice) and you have the rat crusaders who are against the emperor and viewed as traitors tossed into the fray as well. There is much fighting and bloodshed between all these groups as well as the felines with whom the emperor has aligned himself.Overall I just thought the story read like something Tolstoy or some other Russian author would dream up, a dark and dreary world where the emperor is actually a dictator and there is no hope or bright spot to be found.Knowing what I know about this book, I don't think anyone under the age of 10 should read it and if you have an imaginative child, don't read it before bed or nightmares of rat uprisings and slaughter may wake them in the middle of the night,.The fact that the author made me feel so dismal is to me very effective writing and that is why I gave this book three stars.

It reminded me of my earlier years when I read all things historical romance. Like the romances from earlier years this one had more of a narrative feel to it. There was plenty of action and court intrigue involved. The prose and the dialogue definitely give you the sense of stepping back in time. Like most of my favorite historical romances The Defiant Bride gives you a rebellious heroine and an arrogant warrior knight who saves the day… that is when the heroine isn’t busy saving it herself. I also like the glimpse of Henry the VIII before he started his mad reign of beheading unfortunate wives. The Defiant Bride starts with Dariana being ordered by Henry VII to marry a Spanish noble to further alliances between England and Spain. Defiant to her core Dariana plots her own “death” rather than comply. After a lonely year learning to survive in the wilderness she stumbles upon a knight who has been shot and left for dead. After being cared for by this angel of mercy William is told she is a mere delusion of his illness and recovery. William isn’t so accepting of this theory. He’s besotted and determined to find his savior. When he does find her he’s adamant they’ll be wed and he’ll protect her from any fall out with the crown. So from one frying pan where she was being forced to marry, Dariana is tossed in the fire of another. Anger and animosity ensue but so too does desire and love.More than one villain graces the pages. Both ex-betrotheds, the Spaniard and a spiteful money grabbing Melissa are nothing compared to the evil exuded by one covetous bastard brother, Cedric. When they gang up on the Dariana and William things get a bit dicey for the couple. Never to fear though because both William and Dariana aren’t without quick wits and enough gumption to handle what life dishes out. The same can’t be said for their enemies.Overall this was an enjoyable spicy read even if I did want to turn the heat up just a bit more. I received a copy of this ARC via Net Galley for an honest review.

I haven’t always been big on historical fiction. However, Leslie presents it in such a way that is entertaining and thoughtful. Once again, she plays to the theme and the characters but gives us hints of culture. I love the way that she introduces words from that time period that I have no clue what they mean. Why you ask? Because I learn something new! Having a kindle with a digital copy of this book, I can easily high light the word and it gives me feedback. Have I said lately how I love my kindle? I do, I do! Heck some of the words like, “nay” could very well be used in everyday life. I’ve caught myself saying it a few times. Other words that were new to me were portcullis, nay sayers, ministrations and imperious. I also had the opportunity to read some information on Morpheus as well. It is very interesting and something to look into. It’s just an added bonus in my opinion to the story itself. The story follows the path of Lady Dariana and her unconventional quest to remove herself from a huge predicament. She is being pushed and/or forced to marry a man she has never met by the order of the King Henry II. Even though she fights the order, she has to think rashly and figure out a way to remove her from everyone. No matter how much it hurts her. With the help of a close friend, she departs on a quest to hide away from all of them and especially the King. If she was to bring attention to herself and location, she risked being punished beyond all thoughts and rumors she heard. The King would not spare her much and would force a marriage and everything else. She succeeds in hiding and has to relent to living literally as a very poor and perhaps homeless.During her stay in the woods, she witnesses a man being shot with an arrow and injures him. She takes him under her wing so to speak and takes care of him. She knows that if he becomes coherent that she will be at risk of being found. As she’s nursing him back to the good side, her friend pays her a visit. She asks for her help to get the man back to his own land and castle. She does so and goes on living as she was. But questioning why and how he was there. Who would want to kill him?The Knight in question, William is given a story about who took care of him. He does not believe it and sets out to find the woman who helped him. His sister remembered the stories regarding Dariana and her disappearance. He knows that once he finds her, he will convince her to marry her. But in reality, he tricks her. The King has since died and his son has taken his thrown. He is a more lax and kinder royalty than his predecessor. William knows that the King will look upon Dariana’s deception with a softer heart than she expects. But still, she tries with everything she can to defy William and his wishes.During all of this, it becomes apparent that someone is out to hurt them both. The question is who? Who detests either of them enough to wish to vanquish them from the planet? It’s quite interesting the twists that happen as you go on. On one hand, you kind of figure it out. But on the other hand, you are a little surprised. Leslie captures each character well I think. She brings out the emotions of the good ones and you find yourself wanting to smack the bad guy as well! In the end, there is a happily ever after ending. It’s the journey that gets them there that is truly interesting. As always, I try to post what I did and didn’t like about the book. I did give it the full number of stars. Regardless there were some negatives. Some of the positives:I enjoyed learning new words as well as finding out more information on some of the characters and mythology that was pertinent during that time period. The fact that William was the smitten one and chasing Dariana was a nice change up from the some of the more typical romances. You know, like guy meets girl, girl falls in love, guy is oblivious. Her descriptions of their surroundings and every day wear were also interesting. You can picture yourself there almost. Some not so positives:I wanted to know so much more about some of the other characters. For instance, the bad guys. What is their story? Why were they that way?It can be slow in parts. That can be frustrating.Overall, it’s a well written story and entertaining. Leslie brings you through some interesting emotions through her story telling. I loved her book “Dream Dancer”! Which you can find my review of that one and where to get it[...]. *Also, there is a another in the series coming!Take the time to go check out her other books, I think you’ll enjoy it. Thanks Leslie for the interesting and creative story.

Enjoyed Every Minute of it By Amazon Customer Dariana refuses to be forced into marriage, even if it has been ordered by the king, so she fakes her own death only to be discovered and tricked into marriage with William, a man she may not be able to forgive. Furious at being used as a political pawn, the Lady Dariana defies King Henry VII by faking her own death to avoid marrying a man she has never met. Praying the king will not retaliate against her father, she seeks refuge in the forest and learns to fend for herself. When William, a warrior knight, is felled by an arrow, she saves his life and arranges his rescue before fleeing to avoid discovery. When Dariana is abducted, William must track her down to fight for her life and their happiness. And, Dariana, once the most defiant of brides, must channel her own strength of will into survival, both for herself-and for the child she now carries.I really, really enjoyed this story. Ariana was a heroine to be admired. She didn't just bend or didn't go meekly to her fate. She was creative, ingenious in her plan to outwit the King's command; a warrior. OK, she had also been a privileged, spoiled, deeply cared for woman. She wasn't perfect. What were you expecting?William was an honorable man who became so besotted with Ariana that he pursued her and pushed things into the conclusion he wanted. She saved his life, she was his Angel and he was going to make her his. Then when he re-found her, he took off with her and tricked her into marriage. So not quite as honorable an action of a knight but he figured he could win her over, It might have helped had he taken the time to woo her, something he later admitted. She had fought so hard to keep her freedom, to marry for love and not be forced into a marriage not of her choosing. What a wonderful cast of supporting people in the story too. Too many to name, but not confusing in their addition to the story. There were also plenty of people who were villains in the story as well. Each with their own cruel, selfish motives of course. Most of them hated William and coveted Ariana. Those who hated William had no real reason to except in their own twisted minds. Plenty of drama, mystery, some deaths and some married sex, of course.I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

An Amazing true story of Dr. Jim Van Meter’s heaven experience collaborates with similar stories of going to Heaven and makes me as a person more confident that Jesus and Heaven are for Real! One spring day, a surgery goes horribly wrong! Dr. Jim Van Meter tells his true story. “As I came into the operating room I saw Dr. Clements all dressed up in his green scrubs. He introduced me to the anesthesiologist. It was then he injected me with something to put me to sleep. He told me to count to 10 but I only made it to 6. I remember thinking that I just stopped breathing, then my heart stopped. I had a big problem because I had just stopped breathing. My heart stopped and I panicked and began to know that I needed someone to help me and then thinking; oh well, I’m dead. When Jesus talked to me I did not hear Him with my ears but with my soul. His voice was like the waters of the Colorado River running over the rocks; it was so mellow and so relaxing.

He gave very detailed descriptions of his time in heaven. It leaves you longing for the day you too will see Jesus face to face!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Get It! By Michael Philliber To get in the habit of reading Scripture from Genesis to Revelation can be a daunting task, especially if you've never done it before. And it can be doubly dispiriting if you've tried a time or two and never gotten past the first half of Genesis. My normal counsel, when asked, is to encourage "Start small, build steam, then go for the goal!" That's what makes "Daily Devotional New Testament" a delightful project! The aim of this volume is to aid the reader to get through the New Testament in one year. To do this the publisher has broken up the daily readings into bite-size portions, so that day-by-day the reader moves through the whole New Testament in one year. The daily rhythm of the "Daily Devotional New Testament" includes two small readings from the English Standard Version (ESV), punctuated with "Reflections" for each reading, and then a final "Thoughts for Prayer." The first reading is from one of the Gospel accounts during the first four-fifths of the year, and then the Acts of the Apostles for the last fifth of the year. This is a brilliant move, making the Acts part of the Gospel readings, though I personally would have had the Acts readings right after Luke. After the Gospel/Acts reading is a short reflection on the passage for the purpose of reviewing what was just read, and what it means in the reader's life. The second daily reading comes from the Letters of Paul, Hebrews, James, Peter, John, Jude and finally Revelation. Once this second reading is accomplished, there is another short reflection for pondering the passage. And, as stated earlier, the day's reading ends with how to allow the passages to guide our prayer for the day. Each of the daily readings are short and sequential so that the Christian will work through the whole New Testament easily, and thoughtfully. The goal for this approach is beautifully expressed by Alistair Begg in the forward, "Neglecting proper biblical nourishment spoils the spiritual appetite, and the result is theological malnutrition. If we are to avoid this condition we must have Bible-teaching pastors and Bible-reading congregations -- men and women whose ready reception of the preaching is more than matched by their daily examination of Scripture." This work is a great way to jump into Bible reading, and is usable for teenagers and adults alike. Once you've successfully completed this easy-to-use edition, you will be primed to take up the whole Bible. Hustle out and snatch up a copy for yourself, your family and your friends for 2016! I highly recommend this book!

My wife is really busy raising our kids but she knows she can read for 10-15 minutes and is refreshed with the Word of God. The included devotions are helpful as well, not particularly deep in their commentary but at times they provide some meaningful insights. As a couple, it's great to read the Word and chat about it together at night (instead of watching another show or having lifeless conversation). After all, "...the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12).

Really enjoying reading this By Matthew Hawes I am really enjoying reading this, and the the reflection sections are really helping me think through the text. The reading plan and the accessibility of bible text and devotional thoughts in the same book help me to keep going back to ready every day. The font is a bit small. I got some reading glasses.

About the Author About the Author Arwilda Allshouse was born to parents of Pennsylvania Deutsch lineage and kept in touch with her grandparents until their death. Her father still spoke Deutsch and she is familiar with the mores of most Amish. She has endeavored to keep her stories truthful, though fiction. Although conservative, in lifestyle and religion, she did not dress plain or wear a prayer kapp and the Amish would have called her “fancy Dutch” due to her father painting folk decorations. The oldest girl of nine children, Wilda, grew up in an Anabaptist home, spending her whole life in the small Pennsylvania community which nurtured her and her family. Most of her upbringing was simple and rural. She learned as a child, to can her own vegetables, make her own clothes and cook on a woodstove. Her family did not own a car, but did have a tractor. Wilda however preferred to ride horseback to the stream where she and her eight siblings fished on many a Saturday afternoon. When she married her now late husband Calvin, she was baptized Lutheran. She has always loved to read romance, and dreamed of writing and publishing stories, but never seemed to have the time…or the means until ebooks. Wilda has always felt that God has always played a central role in her life and has tried to offer simple work and love in a prayerful way. Wilda lived for many years side by side with the Pennsylvania Amish and now the stories of love and grace that she has always cherished have, with the help of her granddaughters, found a home on Amazon. She hopes that you enjoy reading them as much as she has enjoyed writing them. Wilda currently lives on her granddaughter’s farm in Lawrence County with her beloved dog Angel and her horse, Petey. If you like her books, please leave a review on Amazon, Goodreads or even share on Facebook. You can also contact her directly. She always loves to hear from her readers. It was interesting to see how the author portrayed the trials of the two characters as they sought to ready themselves for a life together as husband and wife. I liked getting the boxed set because I could read the entire story all at once without a break.
