This book taught me how to be true to myself and not let a man do what he wants with me or my emotions. This book will open your eyes on how easy love can blind you and make you settle for less. With inspirational poems and words of advice, others will surely enjoy this book. This will be a great investment and a great read. I encourage everyone to add this book to your collection.

Often times we find ourselves in nonproductive relationships which if full of mental, physical, emotional and verbal abuse. Some are so used to being used as a doormat that they find it a normal way of a relationship. This writer speaks to many women that find themselves in a constant cycle of abuse and reinforce the reality of roads we do not want to cross again. We should all take the time out from toxic relationships to learn to love ourselves which will give us the opportunity to set boundaries.

BOOK REVIEWS "'Conversations with Eric' is by far one of the most original and unique reads that I have came across so far on Kindle." Lucidity - Amazon.com reader "This book really is a magnetic read, it is fast paced, sharp and the humour... very British. If it were a film it would be directed by Guy Ritchie and have a kick-ass soundtrack by John Murphy!" Annie H - Amazon.co.uk reader ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ‘We are everyone else’s everyone else.' Paul Casselle (Author) - Sept. 2014. BETWEEN THE COVERS of CONVERSATIONS WITH ERIC ‘What would you do if overnight you were projected into a mysterious comedy crime novel? What would you do if at every turn you were confronted with gun-toting, murderous psychopaths, your life was threatened on an hourly basis and you suspected the police were as corrupt as the criminals? What would you do if you felt your head was about to explode with the comic madness of it all, and the only sane soul you had to talk to was your labrador? What would you do?…’ Full of mystery, painfully funny situations and twisting plots, Simon picks his way through an ever thickening soup of intrigue and murder. At every turn, he tries to get out, but he continues to be sucked in by murderous villains and the psychologically damaged criminal class. Even when Simon attempts to climb out of the mysterious and incomprehensible hole in which he finds himself, the walls appear slimy with his past. He needs to work out who is a friend and who a foe. He needs to understand how he can survive and go forward in the new world into which he has fallen. Murder, deception and death are everywhere. He needs to decide what is right and what is wrong. And he needs to do it quickly...

Conversations with Eric: A comic adventure that's no laughing matter!, by Paul Casselle

About the Author I live in Spain with 3 labradors, 2 children & 1 girlfriend.

Moving to Spain gave me the impetus I needed to finish Conversations with Eric. The warm climate caused me to move the second half of the novel here as well.

I love telling a compelling story that will both intrigue and excite my readers. I want to take you to places that will exhilarate as well as entertain. I'm never shy about sailing near the edge. The unusual is my normal and jaw-dropping surprising my stock-in-trade.

I have just completed a new psychological thriller called, If The Bed Falls In, available from Amazon (Release date 5th Feb. 2016) in both Kindle & paperback. If you liked Conversations with Eric, watch out, If The Bed Falls In will knock your socks off!

By Rae Phillips Conversations With Eric is Paul Casselle’s first novel and one which is a praiseworthy effort, full of black humour and irony, as a reader you need to stay focused to keep up with the pace! The narrative follows our man Simon as we watch his life unravel before our eyes. In the early pages Casselle has identified to us that Simon likes to have order, he is a plodder who is possibly heading for a mid-life crisis. The narrative picks up pace early on and we feel like we are about to watch a car crash in slow-motion but Casselle has already captured the attention of the reader and we cannot look away. Simon’s descent into criminality is fast and this is a real roller coaster ride of emotions***Warning. If you are reading in a public place, there are parts of this book that will make you spontaneously laugh out loud, there are also moments when you will cringe and squirm with discomfort and social embarrassment on Simon’s behalf!I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a refreshing read. Best thing about it… Simon… without doubt, he should have his own sitcom! Well done Mr Casselle you have created a truly great character and a fabulously eccentric story!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. This book has something for everyone By debbins Mr. Casselle has created a masterpiece of literature with Simon and Eric. Simon is the most exasperating individual I have ever seen in a book. Simon could be any one of us and Mr. Casselle has done what most authors are unable to do, see ourselves within a character. But most specifically those of us who are owned by a dog. We do indeed talk to them and treat them like people. He has also added in Rebecca, Archie and others that make the book what it is. Simon is unhappy with his life so when he's asked to go on an adventure he doesn't actually jump at the chance but in the end he decides that yes an adventure is just what he needs. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great story with well rounded characters.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Unique and crafted well By Lucidity 'Conversations with Eric' is by far one of the most original and unique reads that I have came across so far on the Kindle. Although it's not usually my cup of tea, I thoroughly enjoyed the witty humor that is blended into the suspenseful nature of the story. This is a mix that I think, for me personally, could have drastically went either way, but I think Paul Caselle did a great job of executing it in a way that keeps the story not only entertaining but also interesting- definitely one of those books where I found myself eagerly anticipating what was on the next page and hurriedly sailing through chapters. I look forward to seeing what's next.

Part of the Coda Series As a young man, Dominic Jacobsen already suspects he’s gay, and he gets all the confirmation he needs when a rich boy from out of town climbs into the back seat of Dominic’s GTO. One night with Lamar Franklin is all it takes to convince Dominic he’s found the man of his dreams. Unfortunately, that one night is all he’ll get before Lamar returns to Tucson. Fifteen years later Lamar returns to Coda, Colorado, after ending the latest in a string of bad relationships. He’s alone, depressed, and plagued by late-night phone calls from an unidentified caller. Lamar's ready to give up when he comes face-to-face with his past. Since he was seventeen, Dominic has dreamed of a reunion with Lamar, but that doesn't mean he’s ready for it now. Facing small-town rumors and big-family drama is bad enough, but Dominic won’t risk losing custody of his teenage daughter, Naomi. The only solution is to make sure he and Lamar remain friends and nothing more. Clothes stay on, no matter what. It seems simple enough. But for better or worse, Lamar has other ideas.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. ThreeandHalfStars I loved the beginning of this book By InkedRainbowReads ThreeandHalfStarsI loved the beginning of this book. The teenage characters came to life beautifully and I really believed in Lamar and Dominic’s furtive, tentative connection.I didn’t enjoy their adult relationship quite as much. Actually, the relationship worked, but I’m not sure Lamar’s stalker experiences and the resulting police investigation were necessary. With two complicated adult lives to negotiate, Lamar and Dominic’s relationship was never going to be simple. Adding a crime story just seemed to detract from the character building.I loved Dominic’s daughter - her world-view was so wonderfully simple! There were so many good things about this book, but I think I’ve just come to expect more from Marie Sexton. Her “Promises” is one of my all time favourite m/m books and a re-read on bad days. “Shotgun” just failed to pack the emotional punch I expect from her books. Both Dominic and Lamar were attractive, engaging men, but I didn’t fall for either one of them. Dominic was irrationally frightened of his family and Lamar let himself get walked over too often. Human and real? Yes. But neither man makes a great romantic lead.Marie Sexton’s books are always readable and always enjoyable. “Shotgun” isn’t my favourite of her books, but it is still better than the majority of recent m/m offerings.I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.Sarah

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Return to Coda By C Green This story returns to the feel of the first Coda book, Promises. I love how this author never writes the same characters. Each is unique and complex in their own way and she teaches you to love them. They may be gay but each coming out and coming into their own story is different. They come out at different ages, with different parents, different circumstances. This story is set in Coda again. It is fun to see old characters through new eyes. The reader knows them but the new characters are still trying to figure them out and their confusion is fun to read. Both main characters come into this story having given up to some degree. Meeting each other again as adults shocks them and rattles their assumptions and complacency. The meeting they had as teenagers was passionate and life changing. There is a mystery in this story that does keep you guessing. There are a lot of clues that lead down false trails and make you wonder who our characters should trust.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Book Review by Caroline By PrismBookAlliance 3 out of 5 StarsFor original review, see the Prism Book Alliance® blog online.I have been a huge fan of the Coda series since the beginning but this is probably my least favourite in the series and I think that is mainly due to the fact that I just didn’t like Dom.When Dom and Lamar meet at a party when they are seventeen they are immediately attracted to each other. After sneaking off from their friends and smoking a joint ‘shotgun’ they have a hot and steamy make out session in the back of Dom’s cars, sadly that is about the hottest the sex gets between them for the entire story.Lamar left Coda the next morning and doesn’t return for 15 years and by then a lot of things have changed. Dom is ensconced in the family business with a failed marriage behind him and a teenage daughter to look after. His family are a mixed bunch but there is a lot of homophobia so Dom has stayed firmly in the closet.Lamar has spent his life making poor relationship choices and the latest one is the reason he has returned to Coda and took a job at the local school. He has only been there a few weeks but has been plagued by anonymous silent phone calls and now his car has been trashed. The mystery of who is stalking him and wants him out of Coda is not resolved until the end of the book, I can usually guess who the perpetrator is but I had guessed completely wrong this time.Luckily Lamar makes friends with the other 4 gay men in town who we have met in previous books as Dom was really no use, even as a friend, a lot of the time. His promise to always be there for Lamar was sadly lacking when push came to shove and this was something I disliked about him intensely. Even when they spent night bonding over Lego kits their friendship meant nothing when Dom got scared.Lamar pushed and Dominic ran. This went round and round until something had to give and in the end I felt like shaking Dom and telling him to grow up. It was frustrating, he clearly didn’t know his daughter as well as he thought judging by her response, and even though we got a happy ending I still felt like Lamar been treated badly and Dom didn’t deserve him.I did enjoy seeing the old characters once again and catching up with where they were with their lives and they proved to be good friends to the new man in town when he needed someone.

In this heart warming 'Destined For Love' series, strong and courageous Mail Order Brides overcome deep personal challenges to find lasting love with faithful men on the Western Frontier.

Overweight Mail Order Bride For A Half-Blind Cowboy

Meet Mindy Silvers, a big, beautiful woman looking for love. Spurned for her size, and broken hearted as she stands by and watches all of her peers married off, Mindy is led by God to respond to an advert to become a Mail Order Bride to a mystery man on the wilds of the Western Frontier. It’s 1871 and the Frontier is as wild, and as lonely, as ever. Mindy Silvers is a gutsy and beautiful young lady, who dares to believe God and respond to a call into the unknown as a Mail Order Bride. But her journey to Horatio Attwood’s homestead will not be an easy one. She failed to mention her size to her husband-to-be, and Mindy must overcome insurmountable odds, both inwardly and outwardly, to win her prize. And Mindy is not the only with a secret. Horatio too must overcome his own doubt and shame before he can embrace his destiny, and is bride.

Crippled Mail Order Bride For A Faithful Frontier Cowboy

Crippled through abuse as a baby by the very ones who should have been her protectors, Mary-Beth Tanner could have grown bitter and resentful. Instead, she has become a beautiful but scorned young lady because of her disability. When her Mail Order Bride best friend invites her to join her out West for her upcoming wedding to a gentle rancher, her fiancée sends his friend, Jacob to escort her. Jacob’s honor, and Mary-Beth’s inner strength have plenty of opportunity to shine through the challenges that ensue, but can a die-hard cowboy and a gentle city girl really find love in each other’s arms? With a wonderfully uplifting happy ending, ‘Crippled Mail Order Bride For A Faithful Frontier Cowboy’ is a sweet and inspirational short story of the resilience and strength of one woman’s spirit to overcome every disability and win the heart of the man she has grown to love.

Burned But Beautiful Mail Order Bride For A Pioneer Doctor

Hideously burned as a child, and no stranger to suffering herself, Eliza feels compelled to help the afflicted. But who would ever have thought that a chance meeting in a Philadelphia train station, and a nervously written advertisement for a Mail Order Bride, would bring her face to face with her greatest fears and her highest hopes in one terrible moment?   As a Frontier Doctor, Samuel faces danger every day. Driven by compassion to walk through the valley of suffering together with the pioneer settlers, it may cost him far more than the comforts of the city. It could cost him his life, and all of his hopes of spending that life and mission with a loving woman by his side.   With a wonderfully joyful happy ending, ‘Burned But Beautiful Mail Order Bride For A Pioneer Doctor’ is an inspiring story of God's grace and mercy at work in the destiny of those with courage enough to follow His call.

ABBY: Big Beautiful Mail Order Bride Saved By A Sheriff

Big beautiful Abby Ashwood is deceived by an unscrupulous man to join him on the Mexican border as a Mail Order Bride, not realizing he plans to trade her off to pay a gambling debt. But he meets his match in this resourceful and faith-filled lady however! This tall tale of the West also sings with a note of hope, and shows how faith, and the strength and resourcefulness of a good woman, can turn around even the worst of circumstances for good. Find out how a nasty man's mocking of Abby's size, and his treacherous plotting, play right into God's perfect plan as we ride together to a wonderfully happy ending for Abby and her lovestr

There are nice people in all walks of life no matter the era, and still not so nice also. One doesn't need to go to their level of nastiness to live. Good examples of this.

Imperfect people, Christian hearts, and willing to see that beauty is what is inside us. It is how we act and treat others and that is also how God see us. These stories have delightful characters, heartwarming scenes and dialog that are clean and wholesome.Overweight Mail Order Bride For A Half-Blind Cowboy: A Clean Short Read Western Historical Romance (Destined For Love Book 1)TOGETHER, THEY WERE COMPLETEI enjoyed this Christian mail-order bride story with two imperfect people in the eyes of mankind, but each with a Christian heart that loved the Lord. Mindy Silvers is obese but with lots of heart, cheery and gutsy. Horatio Attwood was scarred as a child in a freak accident that cost him an eye and damage to his face, he works a farm and wants a helpmate in his life. These two know how to look past outward appearances and see the real beauty of a person, the way God looks at us. Not what is on the outside, but what is in our heart.Crippled Mail Order Bride For A Faithful Frontier Cowboy: Clean Christian Short Reads Western Romance (Destined For Love Book 2)WALKING CONFIDENTLY INTO THE FUTUREWhat a sweet story of two friends, one accepting an offer of marriage and left to go west but the groom wanted to allow them time to know each other before the wedding. Allowing the best friend to come and be part of it. But God opened a door for Mary-Beth, crippled from abuse as a baby, to meet and find happiness too. When God was ready, he will open the door and bring her a husband and help-meet. Sometimes, we must step out of our comfort zone to see what God has in store for us.Burned But Beautiful Mail Order Bride For A Pioneer Doctor: Clean Christian Short Reads Western Romance (Destined For Love Book 3)MERCY AND GRACE IN ABUNDANCEA doctor needing a slight reprieve after dealing with Small Pox goes back East to visit his family in Philadelphia and bumps into a lady with medical books. They talk on the train platform for a few minutes about her being a nurse. She tells him her passion for helping and explains about a fire that she was burnt in helping to save her family. A year passes and he realized he needs a wife and pens an ad to Matrimonial Times. A nurse working the night shift sees one of her patient’s newspapers and read the ad from the Doctor and feels God leading her. Two people who are drawn together by their love and compassion for others and healing. What a joy to see two people that love the Lord, and care about others. Another great addition to this series of broken, scarred and damaged people who those who don’t look at the outward appearance but instead at the beauty inside.Mail Order Bride - ABBY: Big Beautiful Mail Order Bride Saved By A Sheriff: Clean Christian Western Romance (Destined For Love Mail Order Brides Book 4)BIG BEAUTIFUL LADYTo ease the burden on her struggling family, Abby answers an ad seeking a Christian bride that is hearty and buxom to move to Texas. Some men can be cruel, especially when they are ruthless bandits. But God can even take a bad situation and turn it to good. This story has bandits, kidnapping, a posse, a rescue, a kind Sheriff and his mother, and a future. It is a shame that more people don’t see that beauty begins in the heart, and size is an outward appearance.

You might notice some Disney character cameos in the story. This Little Golden Book makes a great companion to the Inside Out Big Golden Book since they are two different stories.

The story line is that Bing Bong wants to have a tea party, asks everyone and they say no. He then has a tea party with himself and the other imaginary Bing Bongs from the stories that Riley has created. In the end Bing Bong is happy. I find nothing sad about having to do things alone sometimes and I am totally fine with teaching my kids that it is okay to be happy by yourself.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. story line is terribly sad By Julie Reighard This is seriously a depressing book. It's about how bing bong is asking everyone to tea and no one can / or wants to come and he ends up having tea alone at the end of the book after he's had a "good cry".On a positive note the colors & pictures are very vibrant

Touching the Heart of God: Embracing the Calendar of the Kingdom, by Paul Wilbur

Review I've known Wilbur for many years & am so impressed with his commitment to change the world through worship & sharing the gospel of Yeshua the Messiah with Israel & the world. It's clear God put a calling on Paul's life to build bridges of reconciliation between the church & the Jewish community. I believe the insights found in this book will not only change your perspective of God's kingdom & His desire for unity between Jewish & Gentile believers, they will transform your heart & mind as well.Robert MorrisBestselling Author & Founding Senior Pastor, Gateway Church, Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Wilbur's book is an essential primer for those who want to dig deeper into the roots of their faith. To know & teach the whole counsel of God, we need to appreciate the continuity of the Scriptures - from Genesis to Revelation. Wilbur does a masterful job of demonstrating the validity & value of participating in the calendar & celebrations of our Messiah & His followers. He isn't telling us we must follow these traditions in order to be saved. It's not about what we have to do, but what we get to do.Wayne HilsdenCo-founder King of Kings Ministries, Jerusalem This is an extraordinary, thought-provoking book! I believe it is not just a teaching tool but a call for the church to consider a shift in thinking - not to legalistic ways, but to be closer to the heart of God. It is balanced, funny, and tender! In other words - written by an amazing Jewish follower of the Messiah who opens the door to the world that is meant for all of us who are grafted into the vine!Cindy JacobsGenerals International, Dallas, Texas Touching the Heart of God by Paul Wilbur is one of the spiritual books that will awaken readers to the consciousness of God's kingdom & His will for humanity. In this book, the preacher & musician Paul Wilbur leads readers to discover God in the celebration of the different feasts through which God opens His heart, communicating His love & grace. The message of this book is centered on the idea that celebrating the feasts of God with devotion & openness of spirit leads worshipers into the very heart of God where He so generously communicates His secrets.Romuald Dzemo Readers' Favorite"Touching the Heart of God: Embracing the Calendar of the Kingdom" by Paul Wilbur (an Integrity Music recording artist and the founder of Wilbur Ministries) is an exceptionally well written and organized presentation that is as informed and informative as it is inspired and inspiring. Good Read - with reservations By Susan James I wish there was a way to give this book two scores - because the story was great but the story development was weak. I would love to see it rewritten without so many lucky occurrences and characters left by the wayside. The only thing I can think is that this is the first book in a series and some of the dangling plot points will be cleared up as we move forward...the ending certainly left us with lots of unfinished business. I'm glad I read it and will probably recommend it - with some reservations.

The world of Tregella is vaguely reminiscent of the Baltic in medieval times. Of course this is only the beginning because Tregella is also a magical world full of many wonders and surprises. I enjoyed exploring this world with the heroine and the other characters but it was the story line that really gripped me. While it was a traditional quest story in one sense, I found its twists and turns to be unexpected and engrossing. I often did not know what would happen next. Needless to say I had to get to the end as quickly as possible. Once there, I found the end to be satisfying, and yet I didn’t want the story to be over. I guess that’s a common reaction to a good story. Let’s hope that there’s more coming.

Intriguing world and storyline, interesting and fleshed-out characters, adventure, a bit of romance... It has it all. I have a hard time with books where the main character is a bit of a b*tch and/or has ridiculous powers. This is great because our girl is not a jerk, she learns, she is optimistic, and has a caring spirit. She takes her very limited choices and decides to not whine about them, but rather, take advantage and change them. I hope the author writes more of this world- I will grab it on release date!

Snapshots of White Bread America is a novella-length memoir about an eight year old girl growing up in the 50s. The story follows Fern's life from mid-summer 1955 to her birthday party at the end of the school year 1956. The events are ordinary, the objects and routines commonplace but the girl's detailed observations and the thread of silence and familial tension engage the reader. We may not learn the exact questions but we yearn to know the answers.

The author was particularly gifted in narrating her personal memoir from the point of view of an 8 year old - the author herself - as she tried to make sense of life around her. Highly recommend.

It is FULL of useful information that helps put you at ease no matter what situation you are in as a parent. It's not necessarily a book I would read cover to cover, but more a point of reference when you have any type of question involving your baby. It has a wonderful glossary in the back that you can use anytime you have a question. And the book covers everything from the first questions you need to be thinking about before you deliver, to different parenting styles and how to be on the same page, how much your baby should be eating at different ages, how much they should be sleeping, when to introduce solids, milestones a baby reaches and when, and my favorite - what to do when your child has (insert symptom). It walks you through what you should do (wait it out, call the doctor, home remedies, etc.) depending on your child's age, symptoms, and the severity of them. It put me at ease every time my daughter experienced her first everything. Definitely one of my go-to gifts for any new mom.

Buying this book when I was pregnant was one of the smartest things I did. Sometimes my mommy-mind clouds my doctor-mind and I find myself overly anxious about silly things- this book keeps me sane. It really is the closest thing you will ever get to a baby owner's manual. It talks about expectations, tips, tricks, and everything is evidence based. The authors regularly cite their sources, and their information is in line with the latest from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The format is easy to read and understand, so when you have a panic moment at 3am and your colicky child is pushing you to the limits, you can bust this book open and it will walk you through life saving tips. Even ten months into this adventure of parenthood this book still lives on my nightstand, and I still consult it regularly. It's also changed how I interact with patients, I find myself quoting it regularly, and I feel good about doing so as the information in the book is very evidence based.I recommend this book to all of my patients. It's the first item on my 'New Baby Must Haves' list, and I sing its praises to new parents before they're discharged from the hospital. I have yet to have a patient tell me they haven't appreciated its advice.I can't recommend this book high enough. I love, love, LOVE it- as a first time mommy, and as a Family Medicine doctor.

This book has good information, but the structure of the material really makes it hard to consume. It feels like the authors had great info, but then the publisher ruined it. First of all, it's in an FAQ format, with general groupings of information, but not really set up in a way to make it easy to consume. This would maybe be really good as a website with a search field, but at 600 pages, it's a bit much.More problematic, though, is the format. This was clearly designed to look impressive on a shelf, without a thought for the fact that people would actually have to READ it for it to do them any good. The biggest problem here is that the dimensions of the book make it really hard to hold open. It's tall but skinny, and really thick, making it very hard to hold open. Forget trying a leisurely read in bed. Second of all, to set off sections, some are printed in black over a darkish gray, extremely hard on the eyes. I got about half-way through, then gave up.This may all sound nit-picky, but when trying to wade through all of the info thrown at new parents, having a book actively fight allowing you to extract that information is more than you should have to put up with.

What would you do if your faith could cost you your life?

The fascinating story of one of Christianity’s most courageous heroes, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, is now abridged and adapted for students. This compelling account of Bonhoeffer’s remarkable testimony—combined with historical, theological, and political elements and enhanced with photos—brings the story to life. How did Bonhoeffer become someone who would defend God’s truth, even when it was a matter of life and death? How did he endure the hardships that came with his faithfulness? How might we respond similarly to injustices today?

New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas vividly portrays the struggles and faith of Bonhoeffer, a man who had the courage to follow his convictions into Nazi Germany and stand up for the truth of God.

From School Library Journal Gr 7 Up—Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a devout follower and teacher of Christianity, and it was his strong faith and belief in God that led him to plot and plan the assassination of one of the world's most feared tyrants and dictators, Adolf Hitler. Metaxas, however, doesn't just focus on the religious influences on Bonhoeffer but embraces all of the historical events that helped shape his life. Bonhoeffer, a twin, witnessed his older brothers proudly going off to war and then dying as a result of their allegiance to their country, Germany, so Bonhoeffer was well aware of the political changes in the air as Hitler took over the government. Even though Bonhoeffer studied abroad and worked for a time in Rome, and the United States, he was always cognizant of the struggles that Germans, especially those of Jewish descent, were enduring under Hitler's regime. Chapters in the audiobook are matched with the years chronicled in Bonhoeffer's journals, and writings, so listeners can easily follow the time line of events and correlate them to the events in Germany under Hitler's regime. VERDICT This is a unique, informative biographical story of one of the lesser known individuals of the Resistance movement, but one who is unmistakably important.—Sheila Acosta, San Antonio, TX

Excellent condensed version of Metaxas's main book that captures the key concepts and adds additional teen-friendly content By Steve I was a little skeptical when I saw that a student edition of the book was coming out--it's not uncommon for book publishers to take a successful book and churn out special edition after special edition to squeeze as much profit as they can out of it. But when I saw that Metaxas himself had written it, I had to take a look.As I expected, this edition is exceptional. It goes way beyond being a "Reader's Digest condensed version", it captures the most important facts and stories in Bonhoeffer's life from the main book using language and a narrative that is understandable by students without talking down to them. While the publisher isn't clear about the age range of who should be reading this, personally I'd say anywhere from grade 6 to grade 9; anything after that and they probably could be reading the regular edition.Something else I appreciate are the call-out boxes--unlike in other books they're not just pedantic filler but really interesting definitions and facts that are relevant to the text; things like the lyrics of Luther's "A Mighty Fortress is Our God", juxtaposed with a passage describing how the faithful in Germany defiantly sang the hymn as bishop Ludwig Muller started to impose Nazi rules into the German church. Another call-out box describes grocery prices in 1923 in the USA compared to Germany after Versailles.I also appreciate the questions at the end of each chapter. They're not just there to test reading comprehension, but to inspire thought, introspection, and ultimately life application on what was just read. One of the questions, for example, asks students, "Niemoller said, 'No more are we ready to keep silent at man's [request] when God commands us to speak.' Have you ever kept silent about something you knew was wrong?"While this book was designed for students, I have to admit that as a guy in my 40s I also read it cover to cover. I think this says something about Metaxas and his ability to reach any audience (speaking of which, if you're not listening to Metaxas's radio show @ www.metaxastalk.com, you're missing out!). With so many other books designed for tweens and teens speaking down to them, this one actually gives them the credit they deserve, and goes beyond a history book to one that can help them think through the life of Bonhoeffer and apply it to their daily lives. And the lessons from Bonhoeffer are timely, teaching everything from how to stand up for your faith in a world that is increasingly hostile to it; how to uphold the truth even if it's not the popular thing to do; and how to open your eyes and see the signs of the times clearly when so many around have tunnel vision or choose to stick their heads in the sand. This should be required reading by every young person.I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Mcdanell [Christians] must give up . . . the very two questions that led them to deal with the ethical problem: "How can I be good?" and "How can I do something good?" Instead they must ask the wholly other, completely different question: "what is the will of God?" . . . All things appear as in a [warped] mirror if they are not seen and recognized in God. (179)Several years ago Eric Metaxas published the bestseller Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. The book was considerably large which made the success puzzlingly. Prior to its publication, most could not pronounce Bonhoeffer, let alone tell his story. The opposite can be said now.Due to the books success, Thomas Nelson has released a student edition of book entitled Bonhoeffer Student Edition: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. Though I am a fan of the German theologian, I must admit my hesitancy of picking it up. Like most "student edition" books, I assumed it would have been the same book just shorter. Yet it is anything but that. When it comes to reading biographies, it has been my experience to start off with a simple book on someone who know very little about before digging into the more detailed accounts. Though I was familiar with Bonhoeffer's story, I had not invested in a full biography of the man. Thus when I read Metaxas's larger work, I was a bit overwhelmed. For those new to Bonhoeffer, this is the a helpful book to invest in. It is a much simply book to read adn follow. Almost every page has side bars which guide the reader even further in the narrative. Most of the names and events are in bold which are further explored in the back. Given that most of the names are German, this is helpful to every American reader unfamiliar with the territory.Ultimately, I would highly recommend this book to any student of history and Bonhoeffer. Metaxas has once again published a book on the man worth your investment.I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. Great book for students who are looking to change the world By Kolby Milton Bonhoeffer Student Edition: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy is a great book that would impact students and adults. I love how Eric Metaxas modified this book for students. His book, Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy, is a must read for pastors, and adults. I doubt that students in your youth ministry would be willing to pick up a 650 page book just because you said it was good. This is a book that I want to introduce to my student leaders next year. It is written in an accessible way, that anyone could get an idea of who Dietrich Bonhoeffer was, and what he stood for.The write up for Bonhoeffer Student Edition: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy states:The fascinating story of one of Christianity’s most courageous heroes, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, is now abridged and adapted for students. How might we respond similarly to injustices today?New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas vividly portrays the struggles and faith of Bonhoeffer, a man who had the courage to follow his convictions into Nazi Germany and stand up for the truth of God.Some quotes that stood out:“Being a Christian is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously and actively doing God’s will.”“…when someone asked Bonhoeffer whether he shouldn’t join the German Christians in order to work against them from within, he answered that he couldn’t. ‘If you board the wrong train,’ he said, ‘it is no use running along the corridor in the opposite direction.”“Where a people prays, there is the church; and where the church is; there is never loneliness.”“Actions must follow what one believed, else one could not claim to believe it.”“The good leader serves others and leads others to maturity.”“A false faith is capable of terrible and monstrous things.”“God does not love some ideal person, but rather human beings just as we are, not some world, but rather the real world.”“The church is only the church when it exists for others.”Initially, I was skeptical about a student edition of Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. I have seen other student edition of other Christian books, and they usually do a terrible job of writing for students. The book Bonhoeffer Student Edition: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy is worth giving out. I was really surprised, and thankful that the author did a great job of modifying it for students. This book is perfect for students in your youth ministry. It’s also perfect for grads, or anyone who wants to know one of the greatest theologians in the past 100 years.

The content appears enriching per usual. I have to say that I am not Wiccan, but I like the content from a seasonal celebration, mythology and folklore perspective. There is a smattering of content from many different traditions here. Like any book that tries to serve all, not one style of worship or tradition is featured; many things are gleaned or borrowed from various veins of spirituality. It appears to be pretty group-focused, for the most part. Like other Llewellyn annuals, however, it is very consistent year to year. It's a cost-effective buy.

They have such great information and not only do I refer to them for the current year, but I keep them to refer to in the future as well. They have great recipes, rituals and crafts that you can use no matter when you choose to do them.
