It's beautiful, and the NIrV is just right for him as he deepens his understanding of English. The NIrV is written to a 3rd grade reading level, whereas the ESV is written to an 11th grade reading level. All around excellent!

After doing some research, this translation basically takes the NIV and chops it into easier to read short sentences. It doesn't water down or change any passages. Moreover, there is a dictionary in the back that defines some basic definitions, as well as other helpful resources that are very helpful for a beginner reading the Bible.The only NIrV translation I could find in book stores were cheap paperback print. This has a nice imitation leather cover, which made for a great gift. I would definitely recommend this either for young readers or ESL readers.
