Good Read - with reservations By Susan James I wish there was a way to give this book two scores - because the story was great but the story development was weak. I would love to see it rewritten without so many lucky occurrences and characters left by the wayside. The only thing I can think is that this is the first book in a series and some of the dangling plot points will be cleared up as we move forward...the ending certainly left us with lots of unfinished business. I'm glad I read it and will probably recommend it - with some reservations.

The world of Tregella is vaguely reminiscent of the Baltic in medieval times. Of course this is only the beginning because Tregella is also a magical world full of many wonders and surprises. I enjoyed exploring this world with the heroine and the other characters but it was the story line that really gripped me. While it was a traditional quest story in one sense, I found its twists and turns to be unexpected and engrossing. I often did not know what would happen next. Needless to say I had to get to the end as quickly as possible. Once there, I found the end to be satisfying, and yet I didn’t want the story to be over. I guess that’s a common reaction to a good story. Let’s hope that there’s more coming.

Intriguing world and storyline, interesting and fleshed-out characters, adventure, a bit of romance... It has it all. I have a hard time with books where the main character is a bit of a b*tch and/or has ridiculous powers. This is great because our girl is not a jerk, she learns, she is optimistic, and has a caring spirit. She takes her very limited choices and decides to not whine about them, but rather, take advantage and change them. I hope the author writes more of this world- I will grab it on release date!
