Sadly, this fill-in-the-blank activity has been a big disappointment. The stories aren't funny and don't flow very well. This is not up to the usual Mad Libs standards. Very bummed.

Who, among us, has not known that sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, when, late on Christmas Eve, after the kids are asleep, he is confronted by the two most dreaded phrases found on any box: batteries not included and some assembly required. Or who has not ventured into the forest to “harvest” his own Christmas tree or shopped for the perfect gift or tried to cook the perfect Christmas dinner only to find insurmountable road blocks along the way. “Christmas Tales From Pie Town” is a humorous look at these and other challenges which abound at Christmas time each and every year. You'll even get a glimpse of the annual Christmas tree from your dog's perspective. The stories are recounted by the local, unofficial and fictitious Pie Town historian, Gus Hollern, who has been known to stretch the truth just a bit. You'll find these tales suitable for all ages but especially geared toward grown ups and accordingly very appropriate for those grown ups among you who might need their stockings stuffed.

By Phoenix based mom This funny collection of short stories, geared towards adults, will have you laughing throughout the entire book. The clever stories will remind you of your own holiday experiences, but with funnier twists and turns. For people trying to host the perfect holiday dinner to those trying to buy politically correct holiday stamps, this book has it all. And for you parents of dogs, you will especially enjoy the tall tale about the tree that sprouted in the middle of the living room!

Goodin This is a cleverly written collection of stories that both entertain and amuse. Written in a Mark Twain style of narrative, the stories are centered around small town life during the holidays. The collection is good for some nostalgic laughs about the charms of country folk's way of looking at things in our sometimes overly complicated modern world. Would be a good companion to have on a cold snowy day by the fire at Christmas time.

By Amazon Customer Life can be a challenge in eastern Arizona, especially for those who foolishly try to find things not normally called for in Pie Town. Like the woman from Long Island in search of a domestic, organic, free-range turkey without hormones. "The farm-raised turkeys we get don't need hormones. They don't even get hot flashes." Or Gus' Wife who wanted to make a French recipe that called for truffles. "There's a French lady here who want to feed chocolate to her pigs."This book is funny at any time but would be especially welcome on Christmas morning if only for the episode entitled "Some Assembly Required." And don't miss the episode in which Santa is arrested for lack of an ID, flying an aircraft without wings, and using the labor of elves who had no heath insurance.A delightful stocking stuffer!

Wonderful Books for Young Readers who Love MineCraft By Jeffrey H Wood Wonderful Books for Young Readers who Love MineCraftBoth of my kids (7-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy) are reading the unofficial MineCraft books, and they adore these stories. My son is so enthusiastic that he will describe them to me chapter by chapter as he works his way through each adventure. Both of my kids love to recreate scenes from these books with their crayons, and my son is so inspired that he's been writing his own MineCraft novelettes.

I went to an old fashioned type bookstore and asked for advice. I was looking for that first book that gets a child reading. My son is nearly 7 and can read beyond age level but just never clicked with books. The salesperson gave me the first book of a few different series and I just put them around the apartment. No pressure because that certainly doesn't work. Let me say why I have given this book five stars. My son has not put the book down and has been reading for a solid one hour. If this is the book that opens up the world of reading to my son then it is, in my eyes, worth five stars.

By Guillaume Decugis Ok,so I find this book on my kindle.I'm like:"Oh this looks cool, finally a good read. I read it...it sucks! First, you can't kill ghasts with snowballs! There were about a hundred Minecraft playing errors. We do not understand the characters' feelings, the author passes from one plot to the other too quickly and I could write better than the author! Please,do not buy this book,or at least try a sample before buying. The summary of the book is like the same size as the actual book!Do not buy. :l(sad smiley face)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Montana Mistletoe By celticmaggie This is a really short story. It is also either late for Christmas or early for this year. It is a bit funny and sad. Gillian is the Director of a local theater. Her caterer has died and she needed another one. She goes crazy when she sees it is her ex boyfriend and his brothers. Spoiler. There isn't room for serving. The stage area is small. People are warming up. The owner (spoiler) is upset she didn't use his wife's decorations and threatens to fire her. Then a blizzard hits. Will the patrons still come? Will they stop the show? Will she talk with Mason? Will he talk to her? I guess you will have to read to find out how this story ends. Enjoy! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Just OK for me. By Amazon Customer This is a short story and it appears to be the start of a new series. Sometimes with short stories or novellas you feel satisfied with the story and other times you feel like something was missing or the story felt rushed. For me this fell into the latter category. I just felt like there needed to be more of the back story of the couple revealed initially so that you had an understanding of why Jilly had issues with Mason. If indeed this is the start of a new series, I may try the next book to see if it is an improvement for me.ARC provided by NetGalley.

Once there was a redwood tree―one of the world's largest and tallest trees, and one of the oldest. And once, born nearly a thousand years after the tree first took root, there was a girl named Julia, who was called Butterfly.

When exploring her beloved forest, Butterfly wandered into a grove of ancient trees. One tree had broken branches and a big blue "X" on the side. It was going to be chopped down. Butterfly climbed up into the tree. A tree wouldn't be cut down if it had a person living in it. This is the story of Julia Butterfly Hill and Luna, the redwood tree she lived in for two years, never once coming down. That is, not until Luna's future was safe.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A very special book! By Kathleen A. Hire This is a wonderful book and the first one that my granddaughter actually sat all of the way through when I was reading it to her. It tells the awe-inspiring story of Julia "Butterfly" Hill and her tree sitting event in the grand old redwood tree named "Luna". I work for Sanctuary Forest, who is responsible for the care-taking of Luna, so this book holds a very special place in my heart. Make sure to read the author's note in the back of the book; the story of Julia Butterfly, which might inspire you to read her memoir "The Legacy of Luna: The Story of a Tree, a Woman, and the Struggle to Save the Redwoods". Julia is truly a modern-day hero! This picture book is superbly written and illustrated by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw and tells an incredibly, true story to our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and so on through the years to come.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Powerful Story By M. Maynerick This is a very moving story. The author-illustrator, Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw, did a wonderful job crafting her words and images in a way that made this (pretty intense) story accessible to kids. My five-year-old son was captivated by the illustrations and I was happy to have this book as an avenue through which to discuss environmental issues with him. We talked about how trees are used to build houses and make paper, but they also keep our environment healthy and beautiful so we have to take care of them. Julia "Butterfly" Hill's activism is really inspiring (it's almost unbelievable how long she lived in that tree!), and the book itself is a beautiful work of art!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This is beautifully written and the perfect book to read elementary students ... By Carol Ekster This is beautifully written and the perfect book to read elementary students to inspire them about making a difference in the world. This could also be shared during earth week or with any unit dealing with the environment. The illustrations are amazing!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A mini-wrap up of the "Boggitts" dilemma, good for cat lovers By J. Gilhooly This is book 4 in the Magical Animal Friends series where two girls, Lily and Jess, have a series of encounters in Friendship Forest with magical talking animals. These books are modeled after the popular Rainbow Fairies books, their predecessors by the same author. Children do not need to read the books in order, but could pick the books because they like the cover animal, as each book emphasizes a few tips about the feature animal. My 7 yo enjoys reading these series as well, but she has other books that are her favorites. My 9 yo reads at an 8th grade level and reads these books in ~20 mins, my 7 yo reads more at 3rd grade level and usually reads them over the course of two evenings at bedtime.Parent Rundown:+ It is not necessary to read the books in order to enjoy this book about cats.+ This is a beginning chapter book designed for budding readers, but can be enjoyed by children through mid-elementary grades.+ There is usually no potty humor, see minor note below.+ Books contain magic and fantasy as well as an evil witch, Grizelda. My 9yo comments that Grizelda never really does anything which eventually makes for anticlimactic reading.+ Plot summary: This is the fourth book featuring the no-good Gremlin-like Boggitts that work for the witch Grizelda, and in this exciting round, the girls discover a series of secret underground tunnels in Friendship Forest. The Boggitts plan to collapse some support pillars in the underground tunnels. This book brings the Boggitts' problem to a close when the girls find a home in a stinky swamp for the Boggitts.+ Grizelda makes a finale appearance where the Boggitts quit working for her, and she is too lazy to do any direct evil-doing herself.+ **In this book, the Boggitts engage in some bad behavior referenced in one sentence on pg.60: they smell bad, one picked his nose, and one is "scratching herself" for whatever that's worth.+ It's a cute enough resolution to books 1 - 3 in this series.+ Book contains a sketched illustration mapping Friendship Forest in front, a puzzle page of a very simple dot-to-dot and a cat-care guide page in the back.+ Expect the content to be a tad vapid, as the Rainbow Fairies certainly were, but these books are a step up from the Rainbow Fairies, and they encourage children to read more when they need a mental break from school work.

I Belong to Him, by Ava Danielle

About the Author Ava Danielle is an emotional, funny, sarcastic, and loving wife and mom of four over-rambunctious children. Twins included. She married the man of her dreams 15 years ago, following his career between Germany and USA after growing up as an Army Brat. She loves traveling, but doesn't get out nearly enough, so imagination helps her travel the world. She's inspired by music. If it's not the children watching TV, it's spotify on repeat! "I Belong to Him" was her first book ever written, and only because the support of her best friend inspired her to. She plans on writing many more stories.

12 of 14 people found the following review helpful. This is Ava Danielle’s debut novel… By Amelyn Randall ~ Double-Edged Words Book Blog …and I expected a bit more attention to be given to editing in order to put her best foot forward. The book has a good concept: lonely wife tempted by a single dad of a child in her own kid’s class. So, first off, we are disliking the heroine a bit. She becomes a cheater. But beyond that, she separates from her husband and soon after, the new boyfriend is staying overnight in her home (she’s still MARRIED) where her three young daughters are also sleeping. Okay, she’s a bad wife, and a bad mother. I feel a little sorry for her, but then the author makes her heroine give a snide comment about drivers of hybrid vehicles. Yikes! Way to piss off the huge automobile industry! There were quite a few holes and inconsistencies in the story. Example: first the truck had wrapped around a tree, then it was wrapped around a stop sign, and later it was mentioned it was wrapped around a tree. So was it a tree or a stop sign? In Chapter 27, there is mentioned to be candles lit everywhere, which it would need to be dark to see these, right? Right after, it’s mentioned “His sunglasses,” but it doesn’t say WHAT about the sunglasses, whether they’re on the face, peeking out of a pocked, or hanging at the neck. Anyway, if there are sunglasses, there is also sun, right? Well, then the lit candles are mentioned again. A professional editor would have caught and fixed these problems. There were problems on every single page of this book. I’m told there were beta readers that caught a lot of mistakes, but beta readers are not meant to be editors, and the mistakes were still numerous, too numerous to count. I didn’t mark all of the mistakes, but marked enough so I could make my point. If I had marked them all, I would expect to be paid as an editor. I’m not a good editor, but I am a reader with a sharp eye who knows when there’s been no editor at all.The problems included the following:*Misspelled words, misuse of words, wrong homonym, and several other similar problems. -Mouse in his brown hair, instead of mousse -Her breathing became rugged, instead of ragged -The character Kristina’s name was spelled Christina once -Knick in his neck, instead of crick -Machine beeps louder, more consistent, instead of insistent -Giving met support I need, instead of me the -Twunt–what IS that? I couldn’t figure it out. Nickname, maybe? It was only used once and not explained. -Dialed brown eyes, instead of dilated -Extend of his injuries, instead of extent -Couldn’t bare the thought, instead of bear*Could care less–common misuse of the phrase couldn’t care less–I wouldn’t mind this as much if it was only used once in dialogue, as in the character misusing the phrase, but it was also used in the narrative.*Capitalization mistakes*Punctuation mistakes*Paragraphs are chapter-length, and are not broken up between dialogue of different characters. Many times I lost who was saying what.*Similar problem with phone conversations. The way they were shown were the same as how texting was shown. I didn’t know if it was a conversation or texting, or who was saying what.*Run-on sentences. And on. And on. And on. Run-on paragraphs?*Tense changed randomly back and forth between past and present.*Contraction use–He let’s go and sits down, instead of lets. That, by no means, is a comprehensive list, but only a taste. A professional editor would have caught and fixed all of these problems. I’m begging the author to pull the publishing of this book and rework it. If I had paid for this book and didn’t consider the author a friend, I would have returned it before the second chapter.Ava, DO NOT QUIT WRITING. Live the dream. Care enough about the words you’re putting out to the world to baby them and give them all the care necessary for your readers to like what you’re doing. You have successfully published a book. I can only imagine how good it would feel inside for people to really like what you’ve written. I hope you’ll take this review as the loving kick in the pants you need to get an editor. You’ve said English is your second language, and that’s all the more reason to be impressed by you, but also the biggest reason to have an editor with a better grasp of English. ESL is not an excuse to publish a book full of English grammar errors. Never in my life will I even ATTEMPT to publish a book in German. I’m still working on that first book in my first language, English, but I’m also going to use an editor, and get as many eyeballs on the manuscript as possible before it’s released to the world.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.Sadly, 1.5 stars...

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. disliked the cold heroine & too much telling - SPOILERS marked By romance4ever The story was too much telling as opposed to showing. I did not like Addison and never felt like a really knew Bradon, Addison's lover or Michael, her husband. It was like they were cardboard cutouts, placeholders in the story. Therefore it did not surprise me that sex scenes between Bradon and Allison lacked passion and feeling.I dislike adultery but in limited circumstances can accept it or understand it such as abuse or if the spouse is already cheating or if the couple is in the process of already getting divorce. That was not the case here. Michael, while did not pay her the attention she wanted, did not cheat on her. He was not verbally or physically abusive to her or her children. He did not do drugs or anything else harmful that could negatively impact the family. He was obviously a good enough father because his children liked him and wanted to spend time with her. Addison gave a half hearted attempt to get Michael to pay attention to her (which was to trying to seduce him) but did nothing else to try to save her marriage prior to cheating on him. She did not suggest counseling. She did not tell him that she was unhappy with him and that their relationship was in danger of failing. She did not tell him when they made love that recently she felt unfilled and no longer was able to come. When she finally told him that she was cheating on him, he was shocked. He was oblivious that there was a problem with their marriage.SPOILERS belowWhen she admits to Michael that she is cheating, he wants to try to save their marriage. However, she refuses to try, telling him that she is ready in love with Bradon who she had only known for a relatively short period of time. Michael gets upset about it, does something stupid and as a result is injured badly to the point he falls into a coma. While he was in coma and his life was in the balance I thought her response was heartless and cold. She really did not seem to care if he lived or died other than how it impacted her children. When he wakes up and she wants him served with divorce papers confirmed that she was. Who does that to their husband when he wakes up from a coma? They were married 15 years at that point, she claims that he was her best friend and only had been separated a very short period of time and that is her response to finding out that he will live? The writing was rough as well. It needed to be edited further as their were grammar and other types of mistakes that impacted the writing. The only thing that is good about the book is that it is a KU read.

I don't know why more book touch on this topic I mean we all know someone who has experienced it and it may have even been us. While cheating is not talked about in many books Ava Danielle did a wonderful job of telling Addison's story. I was in love with her from chapter 1. Michael isn't a bad guy just not the love of her life anymore and while she starts to think she may want more or different she runs right into what she needs. Brandon is a single father just doing his best and it's exactly what she needs. With a few bumps a long the way they do what right for their kids and make things work. Whit that being said I can't wait for I Belong to to HER.

I am a busy mom of four adopted SPD children they are ages 4,3,2,1 with my busy family I do not have a lot of down time to read. This book is so easy to understand and quick to find answers. This is a game-changer to understanding our kids and their sensory signals. I LOVE this book it changes the way we react to our little ones. I would run around trying to stop the behaviors instead of offering alternatives to get the same sensory input. This is a must have book for anyone raising kids with SPD or family who wants to understand our SPD kids. Thanks Angie Voss and to my children's wonderful OT that recommended this book to me you are changing lives!

As an educator and a parent of a child with sensory issues, it's so refreshing to read a book that is easy for everyone (parents, professionals, educators, family members) to follow and understand. This book is my go to sensory bible. Whenever I struggle to understand my daughter's sensory signals, I open this book, turn to the exact page I'm looking for, read why she may be demonstrating a specific signal, what sensory sensation she's seeking, and tips to help her cope. I cannot say enough good things about this book. I've even had my family members read some of the sensory signals that my daughter exhibits and because this book doesn't read like a textbook, they were willing to pick it up and digest the information. A definite must have in your collection if you're struggling to understand the reasons behind a child's sensory challenges.

The first SPD book my exhausted, sleep deprived mind was able to get through and actually get something out of it! I love how it's formatted, just a quick browse for a specific behavior and I know what is really going on underneath the symptom (behavior) and how to better help my son. I highly recommend this to anyone who knows, loves, or works with a sensory kiddo.

Best Ebook Online What Is a Disciple and How Do You Make One?: A Manual for Christian Pastors and Leaders, by Mark Swiger

In many ways the church has become more adept at adding members than preparing true Christian disciples. Author and evangelist Mark Swiger believes that bringing souls to Christ and then nurturing them to Christ-like maturity requires an approach that is different from the methods often employed today. Many congregations do not have a clear plan in place for seeing every believer grow to fruitfulness and spiritual maturity. Adding to this problem, sometimes pastors struggle with knowing how to equip others for the work of the ministry. Swiger has developed a Spirit-led manual for disciples and those who lead them. Part I of his book is for everyone, since every believer is first and foremost a disciple of Jesus. Part II speaks to the particular needs of pastors and leaders who are charged with discipling others. This interactive, biblically based handbook is designed to help the church rediscover the eternal, disciple-making truths and examples found in the Scriptures. God’s Word still has the power to transform ordinary believers into disciples who can “turn the world upside down.”

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. the best book on discipleship-both the why and the how By SeedSower By far, the best book on discipleship-both the why and the how. I think we all knew why, but I appreciated the clear, and most importantly, Biblical pathway. The book is designed to be simple enough for even a young believer to help a baby Christian. My favorite, among many highlighted pages was the section on hearing God's Voice-and how normal it should be for every believer.

It ain't easy being saved, sanctified, and single. Try being a once divorced, now widowed single mother of two on top of that. Thank God the Lord built Paige Vanderdale to be able to bear all of those titles without becoming weary to the point of giving up. From the outside looking in, that life looks good on her. On the inside, though, Paige is coveting what so many others around her seem to have, which is true love.

In the past, everything that she thought was love was either something far from it, or was taken away from her. Now Paige is afraid to let her hair down and open herself up to love again.

Paige struggles with the decision to reach out to an old flame to rekindle their spark. When the blaze gets too high, will Paige do what she always does, which is grab the nearest fire extinguisher and try to put it out? Or will she utilize her backup plan and run? The decision is abruptly removed from Paige's hands when something else begins to pull her away--something that just might be the thing that finally breaks her.

It was very predictable. It was obvious that Ryan was going to be the missing son and that Paige was going to buy Tamara's house. There were grammatical errors but that is true of all books published by Urban Christian. Lastly, unlike most E. N. Joy books, this one started more slowly and slightly boring. Hope the next one is better.

When things got rough, Paige would run. With God ALL things are possible. Paige was able to forgive and love again.

This year the Timber Scouts are selling wall hangings. The grand prize for selling the most is a new skateboard. Nate wants to win the skateboard, but he has some competition. BIG NATE ON A ROLL is gut-busting fun for the whole family. I couldn't stop myself from laughing at the comics Nate drew about what was happening in his life. This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I have loved reading books since I was four. Now I am an active nine, and for me to like a book it has to be a good one. This one was so good I read it twice!!!

10 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Another Big Nate Hit! By Valerie A. Baute As always, I love the Big Nate books. This one still gets 5 stars, even if it wasn't quite as wonderful as the first two. It didn't have as much of a moral to the story as the others had, but it was still a great read. I prefer it to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books as I like Nate better as a character. I have no problems recommending this to any child. The drawings and journal aspect make it easier to read for reluctant readers, and it really is funny!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Funny, but Nothing Special By NebraskaIcebergs Am I becoming jaded? My current students enthusiastically recommended the Big Nate series by Lincoln Peirce to me and so this week I read Big Nate on a Roll. The book wasn't terrible. In fact, it was okay. I even agree with my students who repeatedly told me, "It's funny!" But that's all. It's nothing special. While reading Big Nate, I kept trying to figure out what Greg of the Wimpy Kid series has over Big Nate. I connected enough with Greg that I bought the set, watched the first movie, and read the first book with my students. Nate, not so much. But why? I know that both main characters dislike school, caricaturize their peers, develop a romantic interest, and mostly look out for themselves. In other words, neither character has much in the way of redeemable qualities, yet do bear strong resemblances to real middle-school boys. But of the two, Greg has more attitude. For instance, while Nate works hard every day for the chance to win a skateboard, Greg either wouldn't even try or would resort to trickery. And as such, Greg is more interesting and unique. And there's the lack of memorable moments. Anyone who has read the Wimpy Kid books knows about the dreaded Cheese Touch; no such legends exist in Big Nate. Rather, Big Nate is about detention, lost skateboards, fund-raising, matchmaking, a school play, and a rare comic. All of these escapades were mildly entertaining but, alas, none of these compel me to seek out more of Big Nate. The one memorable thing about Big Nate on a Roll is memorable for the wrong reason. Nate's nemesis is a boy named Artur, who is described as having "broken English" and an "accent." In other words, the only multicultural character is "the bad guy." Was this necessary?Aside from this one grievance, I don't have any outstanding complaints. Oh, I know there are adults that don't like how Nate puts down school, books, and good behavior. Yet to me Nate comes across as an average kid. Sure, Nate might throw out a few insults, but nothing he does is terribly mean. Moreover, Nate's nice side shines through, such as when he competes for the esteemed skateboard prize.Just as importantly, Peirce knows how to bring out the humor in everyday situations. Case in point, when Nate agrees to walk his neighbor's dog, he is fully confident that he can handle the task but quickly learns what "unpredictable" means. The situation isn't anything new or extraordinary, but it's funny enough to make me smile. And that's about how I'd describe all of Big Nate on a Roll. So if you know a boy reader, especially a reluctant one, try borrowing some of the Big Nate set. They're nothing exceptional, but they're worth a read.
