5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. beautiful pictures, poor story By dancing1821 I bought this book as a bedtime book for my 18 month old. First, the bad. The story (if you can call it that) doesn't really flow and sort of jumps around. I guess it shows you the different things mermaids can do: Dance with an octopus, find their gemstone, swim. My husband and mom have both read it and dislike the story as well. Now, the good. The pictures are beautiful! The colors, the details, the backgrounds. Now we skip the story and focus on the pictures, pointing out things and letting our daughter name things as well. We like it this way, just wish the words weren't on it. I probably wouldn't buy this again.

There are just random statements surrounding the word "mermaid" on every page. I think it is far more likely that this story was written by a malfunctioning "children's-story-bot" then by an actual human being. I am not sure how something like this makes it all the way through product production - was there not a single english speaking human involved in any aspect of creating this book.This amalgamation of poor illustrations just barely; by virtue of the fact it is constructed of bound pages, satisfies the definition of book . the "good night" series won't be filling our daughters' shelves.

The Comic Sans makes it seem like a school project I made myself. However, the pictures are good. I've been reading this to my baby every since she was 6 months old every night. She is now 14 months old and specially likes the "silly mermaids playing dress up" part. I guess we made it our own. And because it is a board book, she carries it around a and doesn't rip the pages lol
