Today's inflammatory headlines come to satiric life in this convoluted tale of self-serving hustlers as Detective Lawrence Striker and FBI Special Agent Cassandra Cassidy put their heads (and other things) together to weave their way through the violent eruptions of racial animosities and the rabble-rousing buzzards who feast on those divisions. There are crimes to solve but as the story evolves the layers of the fetid onion are peeled away to expose the maggots of deception and double-dealing.

In an early morning shootout on the mean streets of River City two African-American teenagers are gunned down by the cops and that heralds the emergence of the devious and race-baiting Reverend Abraham Castille to media-driven, national prominence as he, with incendiary rhetoric, escalates civil protest into open warfare. As flames threaten to consume the city a kindly old lady who was witness to the shootout is murdered, the city's police commissioner is assassinated, and the rioting spins inexorably out of control and spreads with lethal effect to other parts of the country. Striker and Cassidy are sucked into a cesspool of evil doings that include a drug trafficking network that reaches from River City all the way to Russian mobsters in Chicago. In this miasma of duplicity everyone is sworn to different agendas and Striker's resolve is put to yet another cruel and life-changing test.

With a comedic and jaundiced eye, Branon depicts how today's warped self righteousness and avaricious self-aggrandizement have squandered the non-violent legacies of those who led the civil rights movement of the 60s, a movement that wanted an equal opportunity for a seat at the table but didn't intend to burn the house down while they courageously pursued the invitation. All this wrapped inside a page-turning thriller, a jigsaw puzzle of nefarious motives and end games.

David R. Branon, a Harvard magna cum laude graduate, was the chief executive officer of a very successful business that was ultimately folded into a worldwide sporting goods conglomerate.

He became chairman of that entity's multi-million dollar Americas operation before strapping on an early parachute to pursue the passion of words rather than the sterility of numbers, however lucrative the latter may have been. His debut novel, The Curmudgeon's Tree, and his second, The Spider's Web, were met with high praise. He lives with his wife in Greenville, South Carolina.

By Anthony William Branon Another pristine example of that which the English language is capable in its finest raiment. To read Branon's sentences is to risk smothering comprehension in a rush of lettered opulence. -- Humor? Biting; -- Societal extrapolation? Disturbing to scary; -- Logic? Granite; -- Research? Marianas Trench deep; -- Insight? No. 11 scalpel blade. -- DO NOT DISTURB. ARTIST AT WORK.Hope for the Human Species? Stretched thin. And stretching. -- DO NOT DISTURB. CURMUDGEON AT WORK.ANGELS is a complex but clean narrative. The author serves up a curve ball now and then, and there's a good deal of chin music for the PC crowd. (Note to PC crowd: Before you saddle up Rosinante, finish the book. No need to look stupid AND uninformed.) In the closing pages, Branon floats a killer knuckle ball at the reader. Trust me ... you won't hit it. But it's a beaut. Just proceed to the end without questioning your or the author's brain function, secure in the faith that author Branon is up to something sneaky/grand -- as indeed he is.ANGELS WITH BROKEN WINGS is prescient to the point of eerie -- check the Pub. submission date against the newspapers. ANGELS is art -- and a courageous piece of writing.

Infused with the same biting dark humor as his prior novel The Spider’s Web, he starts us off with an Oh My God opening scene and carries us through his take with an equally OMG finish full of twists and turns. He has his finger firmly up the satirical sphincter of US race politics as he takes us on a journey of corruption, greed, and racial strife while he spins a most readable tale that is involves politics, international drug trade, police, government agencies and even love. Both cynical and realistic, his characters take us on a journey that is worth reading and while doing so keep in mind that he wrote it before more recent incidents in Ferguson, Missouri, Baltimore, Maryland, Cleveland Ohio, and his home area of Charleston South Carolina even occurred.

His books are all quite different but share the storyteller’s gift of a fertile imagination. They showcase his ability to inject humor into difficult situations while creating an entertaining and spellbinding story. This one may be his best yet. Angels with Broken Wings is filled with violence, race riots and illegal drugs. It’s a fast paced story with many twists and unexpected turns, another real page-turner. I keep expecting to see this exciting new author’s books reviewed in national publications, and his stories could all eventually become blockbuster movies.

Pool, by Jihyeon Lee

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 2—This unique and elegant wordless adventure follows a timid boy's foray into a crowded public pool. Due to the crash of humanity cramming the water with their comical bulk and myriad of blow-up gear, the goggled hero dives deep and discovers a female counterpart, who leads him to a forest of fantastic aquatic creatures and plants. Some fish are friendly enough to pat; others embrace the children into their school. A group of fiercer-looking fish flee, allowing the humans to enjoy a white whale's visit. The tamer underwater inhabitants lead the children back to the surface for their return to the deck. Lee's artistic choices are brilliant. The rowdy crowd is depicted in black, white, and gray line drawings and contrasts with the joyful aquatic world in colored pencils and pastels. The large format and the artist's generous use of solid space greatly expand the journey's vistas. VERDICT Lee's debut picture book is a swan dive.—Gay Lynn Van Vleck, Henrico County Library, Glen Allen, VA

By J.Prather *This book provided by the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.Pool is a beautiful wordless book that illustrates one young boy's ocean adventure in a public pool! I love picture books, however I must admit that I usually require words in order to enjoy them. Give me a good rhyme, a solid story, and I am an automatic fan. Even so, it's impossible to ignore the excellent visual storytelling in this wondrous, elegant production. This book is large, and the author makes fine use of all that extra space to emphasize the vastness of our young explorer's underwater playground. The sketches are rather stark in the beginning, as the artist sticks to black and white to portray the young boy waiting to jump in the pool, only to be overrun by a collection of swimmers of all shapes and sizes. The pool is packed when the boy finally jumps in, and it's only when he gets beneath the crowded surface of the pool, that the illustrations begin to show color, becoming more vibrant as the story progresses. When the boy meets a girl underneath the pool surface, their skin tones become brighter, along with their bathing suits. They then encounter an assortment of fish that range from whimsical to fierce. Perhaps my favorite part of the story is when they encounter a whale, You really get a sense of the magical essence of this book as you look at the two swimmers floating in front of the huge eye of the whale. Finally, the two kids swim to the surface, and all of the swimmers (again in black and white) leave the pool, leaving only the two friends in vivid color. Their smile and the blush of their skin celebrate their adventure and provides the perfect ending to this whimsical tale. Pool is a beautiful book and a fine example of wordless storytelling that will allow young minds to celebrate all the possibilities their own imagination can conjure. A wonderful opportunity for play, this is a must have for any young reader.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Imagination at work By Kathy Habel This is a wordless picture book focused on imagination. In a crowded pool two children go on an underwater adventure much preferable to the craziness of the crowd above them. I wasn't sure about this book because the style of illustration is not my favorite but by the end I couldn't help but love it.Review copy sent from publisher.

The water was still, not even a ripple touched the walls. He turned to watch as everyone rushed to the edge with rafts and inner tubes. Watch out, that person is going to cannonball into the still water! The pool was crowded and there was practically no room for one boy or was there? He sat on the edge, dipping his feet into the water. Perhaps he could squeeze in there somewhere and maybe he could go right between those two people! Whoosh, there the boy went, down, down, down, beneath the crazy crowd. The toes and flippers, and oars from the rafts were above as he plunged to the bottom. Little bubbles were in his wake as he dove, but wait, there was someone else! The boy spotted a girl and they danced around each other in the water. The newfound friends began to explore the depths of the pool, a place where no one else but the two of them could discover. Now side-by-side, they looked at the strange little creatures. It was a world that no one else had ever seen, but what would they find? This is a marvelous wordless picture book that everyone will be amazed by. Naturally, everyone will see something different in this tale, a tale that will spark the imagination. Some of the best tales are wordless. This one immediately brought to mind Jerry Pinkney’s “The Lion and the Mouse,” a tale that wowed everyone. JiHyeon Lee’s tale is equally magnificent, asking the reader to create a tale as they see it. Non-readers can easily read this work, creating as they go. In the end, the newfound friends emerge from the pool, delighted that they share a world that no one else has ever seen. The artwork slowly evolves from monochrome-toned panels, adding splashes of color here and there, culminating in the full color portrait of two friends. The underwater creatures are lots of fun, but then again so is the comical view of the rather crazy crowd of people from an underwater vantage point. Wordless, yes, but this book has a lot to say and does so magnificently. “Pool” has to be one of the best books I’ve read in quite some time! This book courtesy of the publisher.

A collection of fantasy and sci-fi stories from author and blogger Carla Billinghurst. “Carla is one of my favourite as-yet-undiscovered writers.” Nike Sulway (Rupetta, The Bone Flute) Sometimes dark, sometimes tragic and sometimes just hilarious, she brings you stories about our uneasy relationship with nature, about star-crossed lovers a long way from Earth and about the endless absurdities of life as a human. “My favourite and beloved piece is Counting... it's short, beautiful and it made me cry.” Sandra Hogan (WriteBusiness.com) In a universe where the absurd slider control has been moved almost to maximum, Milton wants to live life as a penguin, the Zombie Apocalypse comes to Australia…and Transylvania…and to Cinderella’s night at the ball. “By far the best Halloween story I've read. Brilliant stuff.” Jane Rawson (A Wrong Turn at the Office of Unmade Lists) And when it all gets too much, there is always The Emergency Cat. “Just the right mix of absurdity, gore and humour. And a cat. Mostly the Cat.” – Damien Miller

Buy 'Halibut, Herring and You' By Judith I was very happy to receive a free copy of Halibut, Herring and You for review. I enjoyed it so much I am buying copies as well for family and friends who like sci fi/short stories/fantasy/quirkiness.Carla Billinghurst’s stories are full of surprises, full of fun, full of clever twists and tweaks. They bear what I consider the hallmark of good writing: they haunt the mind and the mind’s eye. Long after you’ve finished reading them they pop into your thoughts. For instance, days after I’d finished the book, I suddenly understood the significance of the plural in the title ‘Lilies’.I’m big on picking favourites, and my top 3 from this collection are ‘Fire’, ‘Counting’ and ‘The End of the Line’. The characterisation in ‘Fire’ is particularly impressive, and I like the mixture of menace and fun. ‘Counting’ is short and deceptively simple – it uses no names, yet we care about the protagonists. It is sad and sweet, and warns us to be sensitive to the impact our words have on others.‘The End of the Line’ reminds me of a sculpture in the Shepparton Art Museum. It is called The Four Horsemen of the 21st Century Apocalypse (http://www.cv.vic.gov.au/stories/creative-life/craft-where-is-it/shepparton-art-gallery/). Both Penny Byrne’s sculpture and Carla’s story give a chilling foretaste of what our world may soon become.Carla’s writing is fresh, and I love the way she invites us to create our own backstories for the worlds she shows us such tantalising glimpses of. Even more, I love the way the worlds she creates shine a light on our own world.I highly recommend Halibut, Herring and You. Do yourself a favour and buy a copy today.

Ward Although I normally dislike stories about zombies, I love to watch authors meet the challenge of writing a good short story and I like to read about Australia, so I gave this book by Australian author Carla Billinghurst a try. I was certainly not disappointed. Many of the stories have a science fiction bent, and all were creative and quirky enough that they kept my interest. Some are also great social commentary and most are very funny besides. The title story, Halibut, Herring and You, set the tone for the whole book. It laid out a farcical situation in a serious fashion without explaination or apology. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it spread and develop before me.I also especially enjoyed the story entitled Fire. It was entertaining and funny and yet creatively made its points about life and families and the people who populate them without making them overtly. The Emergency Cat reads like a traditional fairy tale - from an alternate universe. This book is one that inspires furter rumination on the plots and the points, well after the reading is done.I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Reading Deals in return for an honest review, which I would always be giving anyway. If you like to have your imagination stirred and your thought stimulated while still being thoroughly entertained, buy this book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Quirky delights By Dame Joan Sunderland A wonderful, whimsical collection of tales to surprise and delight. This collection is a grab-bag of interest and amazement. It is cheeky and irreverent, grotesque, offbeat and full of interesting "what if?"s. Carla writes with humour and a keen eye for the quirks of human nature. Humour is tempered with true feeling, with sublime and aching love in pieces such as "Counting", through to the crashing despair of broken dreams in "Lilies"."Fire", "Halibut" and The Emergency Cat were my personal favourites, but the whole book is packed full, as it should be, of Fire and Surprises ;-)

Book One in the new adult rock star series, Lost in Oblivion.

Love definitely wasn't on the setlist.

Opening for their idols on their first tour, Oblivion is living the dream. Mostly. Frustrated at being shoved out of his mediator role by their new manager, Deacon McCoy loses himself in brutal workouts. He only comes up for air long enough to refuel - and to tease the deliciously cute chef who makes him crave a lot more than what she's offering on her serving plate.

As the child of roadie parents, Harper Pruitt has heard every pickup line twice. To her, musicians are one step above the scraps on her cutting board. All she wants is to get enough experience to run her own catering company, but Deacon and his bottomless stomach are too tempting to resist. He's far from the typical rock star and before long, she finds herself experimenting with him, inside and out of the kitchen.

Apron - and panties - optional.

When Harper sees that Deacon's dream band with his best friends may be turning into a nightmare, she can't walk away. Deacon's so much more than just a peacemaker and the man behind the bass. But she has her own dreams to chase...even if she's starting to think what she's building with him might be the biggest one of all.

36 of 37 people found the following review helpful. It was an okay read.... By Anita L McFarlane I had some difficulty with this book. I realized later that I'd started the prequel to this Seduced only to put it aside. Now I remember why. Rocked is a classic NA rock star book. It has some great characters - the band - Deacon, Nick, Simon, Jazz and Gray. Rocked focused on Deacon and his relationship with the chef who traveled with the bands, Harper. Unfortunately, I never really consistently connected with Harper. Sometimes I really liked her and at others, she was annoying. Her sayings "big guy" or "Sweet Pete" or "pal" - ugh! annoying. I liked Deacon more but I grew tired of the constant references to his body - how great it was, how sculpted, how tall, etc. I also, and I am almost embarrassed to admit this, grew tired of the sex. I am a smut queen, but I like a little story with my sex. At times, Harper and Deacon were going at it like bunnies. But it felt gratuitous - not at all part of the plot. I even skipped a few pages. The scenes with the band and the issues with the record company were actually better than the scenes between Deacon and Harper. I really, really wanted to like the book but just couldn't connect well with the two MCs.

29 of 31 people found the following review helpful. I wanted to like this book By barbara baronas I wanted to like this book. The idea could have been interesting but it just wasn't. There was no plot, no character development, nothing. It was if the authors read a bunch of books, took the ideas they liked from each and tossed them into a big book salad. (She's a chef. Hence the food reference.) Anyway, the whole first quarter of the book was about how hot Dereck is. Could have told me that in a chapter and then moved on to tell me something else. The nonexistent plot was so uninteresting and nonsensical that I eventually started skimming just to finish. On the plus side, the writing style wasn't horrible. If the authors can figure out the plot/character thing, there could be some potential.

14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. If you like your stories hot, and your men strong but peacemaker-y.... By Harlequin Junkie Blog Rocked by Taryn Elliott & Cari Quinn: After all the s*** they’d been through, Deacon almost couldn’t believe Oblivion was on tour – and opening for Rebel Rage. Things weren’t perfect though, they were still worried about whether they’d get a record deal at the end of the tour, and if they’d live up to the fans’ expectations. Turns out when they started to rival Rebel Rage in popularity, their once-idols didn’t appreciate it. Yup – not perfect at all, and that made Deacon, the peacemaker in Oblivion – mighty nervous.RocHarper Lee was hoping to impress the people at Food Riot enough so they’d keep her on for another tour. Feeding Rebel Rage and Oblivion was her first, and she was literally trying out for a full-time gig with the company. Her parents – and now her brother – had been roadies, so she knew touring like the back of her hand. And she was an amazing Chef, so she had nothing to worry about. Except for Deacon McCoy. He could definitely get in the way, and she might just let him.Deacon and Harper settle into a relationship, mostly because they just can’t deny themselves the amazing chemistry while they’re together. But while they get closer, Oblivion seems to be deteriorating bit by bit. It’s like Deacon watches it like sand through his fingers until one day it just implodes. He needs to keep both his band and his relationship with Harper together, he’s just not sure he can do both.Ever since I read “Seduced”, the prequel to the Lost in Oblivion series, I’ve been *dying* to read “Rocked”. I wasn’t disappointed in the least. Even though I was anxious to hear Gray’s story, Deacon was just as tantalizing, and DUDE – he was Hot with a capital H. He just about sizzled off the page, and the sex scenes in the book were amazing. Not for the faint of heart – so if you prefer your books chaste, this isn’t for you.I loved Harper as well. She was more than a match for Deacon – snappy, smart, talented… and she totally wanted nothing to do with him. It took a super concerted effort on Deacon’s part to win her over, and while that’s not a new trope, I love how it was handled in this case. Handcuffs were involved, and perhaps not in a good way.Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott are so good together it’s scary. I cannot wait for the other books in this series.HIGHLY recommended if you like your stories hot, and your men strong but peacemaker-y. If you dig sassy & strong ladies, that’s a plus.

Estonia may be at peace but Conrad Wolff, now a master of the Sword Brothers, seethes with anger against a wrong committed against him and his friends. The aftermath will lead to Livonia and Estonia being dragged into international politics as the Papacy intervenes in the affairs of the Sword Brothers and Livonia. Meanwhile a frustrating war continues against the pagan Lithuanians in the south, a conflict that puts a severe strain on the resources of the Sword Brothers. But it is in the north where a crisis suddenly develops, resulting in Conrad and his order facing annihilation in the freezing wastes. Against this dire backdrop Conrad is forced to make a decision that will have major ramifications for both him and the Sword Brothers. And in the aftermath of that decision a giant of the crusader kingdom in the Baltic leaves the stage. ‘Master of Mayhem’ is the fourth volume of the Crusader Chronicles and continues the story of Conrad Wolff and the Baltic Crusade in the first half of the thirteenth century. Maps of Livonia in the thirteenth century, the Lithuanian kingdoms and the tribal lands of Estonia can be found on the maps page of my website: www.peterdarman.com

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Suzi the Marshal By JPS This is volume four of Peter Darman’s series on the Sword Brothers in the Baltic countries. Again, for those who have read the previous instalments, it is mostly “more of the same”, with a few additional and new twists. One is that you see through the deeds and enrichment of the merchants of Riga the beginning of the emergence of what will become the powerful Hanseatic League. Another is that the Kurs from Kurland will prove to be remarkably effective enemies for the Sword Brothers and Crusaders, and a match for them, as you will when reading the book.A third twist is the consequence of Suzi’s rise in the world. He is not only a Master and castellan of a fortress in Estonia that it holds for his Order. He is also the Marshal of Estonia and commander of the Army of the Wolf which includes thousands of well-equipped Baltic warriors around their chieftains. These will only accept to serve under his orders and will be baptised thanks to him. They also make up one of the most effective components of the Crusader armies, alongside the contingents of the Sword Brothers themselves. Because of his titles and his past exploits, Conrad Wolff (Suzi) has become a power in the land and a major warlord. You will see him exercising this influence in a couple of instances throughout the book where he essentially saves the sum of things and makes everything possible thanks to his initiative. Another twist is that Suzi and his army, and the Crusader forces more generally, do not carry everything before them this time. In fact they suffer defeats and are lucky to get away with their lives and avoid complete destruction from two sets of ferocious enemies. As usual, the author has been generally faithful to what little historical record (all written by the German side) there is. Many of his leading characters are therefore historical, starting with the Bishops Albert of Riga and his brother Herman, although the evil and cowardly archdeacon Stefan and nephew of the ageing Bishop Albert is fictional. He does tend to depict the Sword Brothers as mostly “nice”, despite their often shady background and involvement as mercenaries in the endemic conflicts between warlords in Germany and the atrocities and massacres that were committed. It is therefore a bit hard to believe that the Sword Brothers would, without exception, behave impeccably while the “nasty Danes” and their own German mercenaries would lay waste to the north of Estonia and pillage.Again, I very much enjoyed the Oeselians – a small kingdom on an island just opposite the golf of Riga and made of unrepentant pagan Vikings. They are rather flamboyant, as their attack of a Danish fleet will no doubt show you. They are also the epitome of Viking raiders and “traditional” Viking values, with reckless bravery being one of the main ones. However, their wise and thoughtful King Sigurd manages to control them and brings the best out of them, at least in military terms.Another very enjoyable read which I will rate a solid and well-deserved four stars. Note however that the small print makes this slightly over 300 pages-book longer (and also a bit harder) to read than could have been the case otherwise.

Noesner Master of Mayhem is the latest in the great series that Peter Darman has crafted, a master at historical fiction. I felt this fourth book in the series did not contain enough of the exciting battle scenes that I have come to expect from Darman. Still, this book will not disappoint readers of the series. I eagerly await the next book in the series.

Crusader Battles In the Baltic By James Dainis This novel takes place in the early part of the 13th century in the Baltic countries of Estonia and Lithuania. Conrad Wolfe is a master of the Sword Brothers, a group of crusaders who have taken vows of chastity and poverty and who fight to spread Christianity among the heathen countries. In this novel they join forces with the Lithuanians to help defeat the Kurs, a clan of superior fighting men who want to conquer all of Lithuania. Conrad and the army are hampered by incompetent leaders as they face a superior foe. This is a theme that runs throughout the book as other ill conceived battles are planned against well led armies of non Christians. Conrad has to take part in these battles even though he is more concerned about a Danish outpost north of Estonia that he fears the king of Denmark will use as a stepping stone for a full scale invasion of Estonia. This is a well written novel with lots of battle action and stratagems. The characters are well drawn and fleshed out as are the descriptions of the Baltic countries at the various times of year. It is a bit of an irritant that although Conrad does everything unselfishly for the betterment of the local villagers and settlers, he is viewed with disdain by officials who seek only wealth and betterment for themselves. He does triumph as one would expect but one can see that the antagonists are still out to see him undone. That, of course, leads to interest in the next book in the series which I shall have to read to see if Conrad can finally win out over the dark forces in the Christian community itself.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Someone call me a fireman! This is HOT! By Louisa Mae There is nothing I love more than new characters from one of my favourite authors, so to get three in the one book is like Christmas. We are pulled deep into a world that our unsung heroes knew existed, a world filled with darkness and deceit, but we will get onto that later.Daniel is a fireman, okay so you had me hooked at the thought of that, then you add in a hunky Police officer and the fires Daniel fights aren’t the only thing getting hot around here. Throw in a young man who needs protecting and you have your Manchester Ménage.Everyone has a past, and some are running from it, desperate not to be found. For Samuel the monsters under the bed are real and don’t just live under his bed. Fate brought him into Samuel’s life at a time when they both needed someone. Daniel and Milo have been struggling with their relationship and Samuel could be the magical ingredient that will bring them back together. The characters are well formed and I found myself caring for both Samuel and Daniel pretty much from the outset. Milo needed a little longer to win me over, and I am a tough nut to crack. I put the fact he managed to do it entirely down to the skills of Nicole and the world she creates when she sits down to write these books which she shares with us. It felt like I knew them, like they were going to drop round for a coffee and biscuits with me. I almost wish they could! There is plenty of hot sexing in the pages, but it is also balanced perfectly with the emerging feelings and emotions of our three main characters. A balance which can be difficult with this type of book; but a balance that is perfectly achieved.I won’t give away any of the secrets that will be revealed, but just know that there is more than enough drama to keep you entertained. All in all a great story that you won’t want to end, but when it does, hopefully like me you will be begging for more (trust me I already have).

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. 4 Reviews By InkedRainbowReads FourStarsThis was a good story. Milo and Daniel were struggling in their relationship, not being honest with each other, along comes Samuel, and everything changes. It was a story of love and how three men could make a relationship work better than two.I thought Daniel was a very soft hearted caring firefighter, out to save everyone. Milo on the other hand was a hard tough cop, who didn't want to let Daniel go. Their story draws you in.The relationship that came from Daniel wanting to take care of Samuel was beautiful and loving. I thought they made Samuel feel loved and wanted, something he was missing. The story revolving around Samuel was heartbreaking. It was a good suspense story. I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.~SherryFourandHalfStarsThis was a great story. It had mystery, romance, heartbreak and so much love. I immediately liked Danny. I am such a sucker for Firemen. The way that he was fearless, despite the raging fire. Then there was Milo. I must admit that he confused me a little. He was so reserved - despite knowing that he had feelings for Daniel, I was so sad for them both.Colville was able to write in a way that allowed me to really feel the emotions - the war that Daniel was fighting and the sadness that Milo felt when Daniel tried to end their relationship. When you throw Samuel in to the mix, the relationship became combustible. The connection that both Daniel and Milo felt towards Samuel was so heartfelt. Both of their alpha male instincts came out. And, even though they were trying to figure out their own relationship, they never put him in the middle, which I was happy about. Colville really allowed the relationship between the trio develop in such a natural way - or as natural a way as it can with psychopathic people after Samuel. This book had it all - love, mystery, alpha males and a relationship that anyone would be jealous of. I can't wait for the next book in the series! I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.~AvidReaderFourandHalfStarsI have to say the way these three men came together was really excellent. The fact that Sam doesn't mind if people think he's a woman or dressing in woman's clothes is a nice addition to the story since it isn't often that's in stories. The back and forth between Milo and Daniel and why their relationship doesn't work after so many years was interesting. I liked they way they both grew with the assistance of Sam even though he didn't realize that he was doing anything. This was one of my more favorite male menage stories. It was well written with nice, unexpected twists that brought in some suspense. The only thing that bothered me was there was a lot of random 'do's in the book, but that may be because the author is European and I'm not.I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.~ReneeFourStarsDetective Milo and fireman Daniel have finally come to the heart-breaking conclusion that they just can’t make a relationship work, no matter how much they love each other. But when Daniel rescues a beautiful young man from a fire, both men are instinctively pulled to Samuel. With a dangerous mafia crew chasing him and a world of hurt behind him, Sam needs Milo and Daniel’s protection, not their lust or their dysfunctional relationship. But slowly, the vulnerable, damaged young man brings order to Daniel’s chaos while gently softening Milo’s heart. Daniel and Milo are brought closer together than ever, but they only work with Samuel in the middle.Colvilles characters are complex, multi-faceted and infinitely loveable. Who wouldn’t love a damaged, compassionate wall of muscle? The sex is seriously hot and the contrast between the two burly alphas and the slight, delicate Samuel is beautiful.I love the suspense Colville weaves around her characters. The threat to Samuel becomes more real and more imminent as Milo unravels the truth of his situation. This story is hot and full of suspense!I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.~Sarah

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Smokin'!!! By Simply Just Jen I know I am a little late getting this review..LOL What can I say about Ms. Colville's latest hit, Saving Samuel except that is magnificent. I love menage books to begin with and I am always excited to see how the author is going to construct the the pieces of this type of relationship. Of course, Nicole did not disappoint at all. The dynamics of the characters managed to balance one another out. The story was full of just the right amount of angst and suspense to keep the reader vested in the characters.Daniel and Milo have been on and off in their relationship for 6 years. They can't seem to commit to a full time relationship. Daniel knows he wants Milo but Milo just can't seem to give it to him. Daniel is the fireman and is a big softie who truly just wants to feel loved. He is a strong compassionate man. He leads with his heart and while thats always not a good thing it is just who he is. He knows he is ready to settle down. Milo is a policeman who likes to be in control. He is all alpha and his life needs to be structured. Now, Samuel is a young man who is desperate to remain hidden. Samuel is running from a tragic past. He has been on his own for a while and just surviving each day is an accomplishment. When an accident throws him in the path of Daniel and Milo he realizes that if he listens to his heart and accepts help he may just have a chance at a normal life. What I loved about the three of these men is that they worked very hard to come together. It was a great journey of friendship to lovers. I loved how ironic the title is to the story because the even though Samuel was rescued, I believe he is the one who saved Milo and Daniel. Not just their relationship but each one of them. Samuel came into the pictured and just seemed to balance them. I loved the vulnerability in Samuel yet I also admired his strength. I loved how Milo is so tough on the exterior but yet he needs Daniel and Samuel to feel alive. Milo is the strength in the relationship. You can't help but love the easy going Daniel. He is so full of love, he isn't afraid to just go for it.The story is passionate and captivating. It will keep you on your toes for sure...it gets pretty raw and intense. The sex is romantic yet so sizzling hot. This is a great read that kept me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next installment for sure!!

It was a typical hot Sunday afternoon open house. The usual suspects of condo commandos, retired nobodies, and the ever present snowbirds filed through. None were buyers, Finn could tell. All they wanted to see was how the Epstein’s had decorated and to tell him how it was overpriced. Finn hated his life. After 10 years selling real estate in the sleepy beach community of Vero Beach, FL he had had it. 7 years ago he was selling luxury homes on the beach, had rental property, nice cars and his family. Shortly into the real estate crash he had to file bankruptcy and shortly after the bankruptcy his wife had taken the kids moved back to savannah leaving him with nothing. Now he was selling $50,000 condominiums and doing price opinions for banks on foreclosed properties. All of the foreclosed properties were disgusting. Most had mold, missing appliances, stains of unknown origin, dead rats or raccoons in the pool and the occasional lone squatter thus the Glock he carried concealed in his messenger bag. After his Mother (also a Realtor) is found face down in the pool of one of her listings Finn's life changes for ever.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Kept me reading! By jeff d I pondered over the purchase of this book as I do with any author new to me. When I started to read it I was delighted by the characters. No one is what they seem. The first impression is stereotypes but, every character has a dubious past that naturally lends to their individual uniqueness. The plot twists are tied together neatly leaving a satisfied feeling at the end and the hopes of a sequel to follow. While looking for other Lafferty books I learned that this must be his first! I felt the disappointment I feel when I find that one of my favorite authors has died. It says a lot on the first book to get that feeling. I'm optimistic that there will be more books to follow the S. Florida adventures of Finn, Sam and Mike.Try it you might be also pleased and suprised.

The characters are very interesting and I loved how they were introduced and fit into the plot. There are a few surprises in the book which were very clever. I love Key West so I was excited about the references to the southernmost city. I recommend the book and look forward to his next one.

I've been there too many times to count and with my SoCal Annual Pass I actually use the park sometimes to do my 10,000 steps a day. I thought I was an expert UNTIL I read this guide. I found out so many tips for getting through the attractions with the author's 1, 2 and 3 day touring plans that it just blew my mind. Since I live so close I often am the de facto guide for out-of-town relatives and friends but I'll whole heartedly admit that with the new information I've learned with this 2016 guide book I'm at the top of the game. There are maps and detailed information regarding each attraction. There is a restaurant index, notes and info on all of the hotels in the resort area both on and off the grounds, and tons of good data on the live shows that are such a plus when visiting the parks. I will gladly confess that when I was a kid living in NY state back when Disneyland opened I read and watched everything about this magical park that I could get my hands on. Now I'm into my 70's and still find it draws me into its enchanting awesomeness. This book has upped my knowledge from a B.S. to an M.A. of Disneyology.I've looked at several of the Disney information books that are published each year and can truthfully say that this is the best of the best. If you're planning a trip, do yourself a favor and look at this Unofficial Guide first. You will get your investment back tenfold in time and irritation saved.

Drown This book is indispensable for any family traveling to Disneyland parks. We've taken much of the advise on our preplanning and will follow the tour guides for our upcoming visit. Some of the ride descriptions were surprising, and disheartening to find we're going to "waste" a lot of time visiting characters and princesses. But when traveling with small children, meeting their hearts' desires is our top goal.

By Marte Disneyland is so freakin' expensive these days that it's worth taking every opportunity to get as much out of the place as you possibly can. This guide will help you do just that. Every attraction and restaurant in Disneyland, California Adventure and Downtown Disney is ranked and rated, not just by the writers and contributors to the book but by everyday Disney visitors. And as a bonus, you can get an individual Touring Plan that ensures that you get to see everything you want to see and do everything you want to do in the most efficient way. It may not seem intuitive at first to go back and forth to the attractions instead of going through them in a linear way, but I'm here to tell you it works. Plus you can tailor the plan to your age and walking speed. The truly personalized Touring Plans do require a paid subscription to their website, but you get a substantial discount if you use the link in the book. And really, isn't it worth spending a few bucks so you don't waste your $100+ entry fee just standing around trying to figure out where to go next?
