THE DIARY OF KARA'S LIFE By Robin Leigh Morgan I found “Take a Piece of My Heart” by Diane Rose Duffy to be an almost true story of what happens to a young girl like Kara, who’s too young to really understand the true meaning of love. Kara, against her parent’s wishes decides to run off with a guy her parents had forbidden her to see and gets married to him; which only could have happened because of her youthful innocence.Before long she discovers the truth of what the adorable man she’d married is truly like, and the happy ever after she once thought she’d get is now merely a nightmare no woman wants to be in.Not only did the cad she married take a piece of her heart; he took quite a lot more from her. I believe her husband had taken almost everything from her, everything that is except for her will to survive and her determination to find solace somewhere far away from him.This is a story any woman who’s in an abusive relationship and has been able to escape from can relate to. Once Kara leaves her husband she gets on a roller coaster ride of emotions just like any another woman who has lived through the same ordeal.While I usually find 50+ chapters a bit excessive for a novel of this length; however, Ms. Duffy skillful use this number of chapters on her first outing as an author, makes it read like a diary of Kara’s existence with her husband, from when they first met, through her horrific life with him, her escape, to the journey in which she finds the happy ever after she has search so long for.It’s too bad I can only give this book 5 STARS, as it deserves more.

By Brenda Romine I received this book from the author in return for an honest review.This is a "New To me Author" and "New Author" in general really. Let me start off by simply saying....This "New Author" has a bright future in the book world!I was so impressed with this story,I could not put it down! What a great story! This story has everything you want in a good book.You have a great story line,drama,(what's a story without drama?)Great characters,fun and tons of good ole down to earth humor! I'm tellin'ya,Sadie and Krista are a hoot!! I just loved those two! And put those two in the same room together and you are in for a treat!The characters are all so down to earth and just as much fun as your true life friends.You really connect with these characters.You feel what they feel and it's like they are people you know in real life.I really connected with Kara and DJ from the start.Once I started reading this I was hooked.From the very first page!Kara is young teen girl at the beginning of the story.Falls hard the town bad boy and ends up marring him at young age against her parents wishes.Young,newly married,and disowned by her family Kara's start at life as an adult is quite rocky.A few months into her marriage with Danny becomes less than perfect.Danny becomes "That Guy".... You know the complete Butthead! He beats on Kara and just makes her life a living hell.After 13 years of his crap it finally breaks her down enough to leave him.From that point on the story really gets to rolling,I don't want to blab the story,I want you to read it!! I want you experience it.It is well worth your time to get into Kara's life and see how it all ends.I highly recommend this book you all!! You will love it.It's one of those stories that many people can relate with.Kudos to Diane Rose Duffy!! You off to a great start in the literary world!!

By Tiffany Williams "Who am I and what am I running from you ask? my name is Kara Salinger Morino, and I'm a thirty-two year old ignoramus who at the age of nineteen, made the most colossal mistake of my life."What a breath of fresh air!I could not put my kindle down because I was so caught up in the mind of Kara. This was an amazing debut book, and I am so honored to have read it.I was pulled in right from the start. I enjoyed the humor that Kara had even when her world was crumbling around her. This book pulls at your heartstrings so much. You find yourself wanting to reach in and hug her as she tries to live in the day to day life she feels stuck in.This story deals with the subject of domestic abuse. The author did a wonderful job letting us into the mind of a woman that has stayed strong her whole life under the hands of the ones that were supposed to love her."I was raised in an abusive home and married an abusive spouse. It was all I'd ever known."The charcter of Kara will always hold a piece of my heart. As the story unfolds and she takes charge of her life for the first time, you cheer her on and want to keep pushing her forward. You watch her become the woman she always knew she could be, but was afraid to."I am a firm believer that when one chapter closes in your life, another will begin. I am determined that this chapter beginning will lead me to what I have been searching for. My hopes are for a bright light at the end of this long, dark tunnel."But don't think this story is all heartbreaking and sad, because it is far from it. Yes, there are moments that make you want to shed a tear or two, but overall it's just a story of discovery. I loved the way Kara's mind worked. How she brought humor into everything and how blunt she was. I could see her being my friend!My favorite part about this book is when her past meets her present. I'm not telling secrets because you should read it for yourself;) But let me tell you, it's a perfect circle in the twisted life Kara was given. True love is always worth the wait.This book was everything I thought it would be and more! Overcoming abuse is not easy, but there is always someone out there to help. Kara found out that there is a light at the end of that dark tunnel.Wonderful debut novel!!! Can't wait to read more from Diane Rose Duffy!!"Family is where the heart is."
