From School Library Journal Gr 7 Up—This fast-paced adventure picks up where the suspenseful Scan (Putnam, 2014) left off. Tate is on the run from the Core, a group of H2 alien agents who killed his father in order to obtain the scanner. This alien device is the only way to differentiate between humans and H2 and may also be the key to human and H2 survival. With the help of his mother, his H2 girlfriend, and a few new friends found along the way, Tate must build unlikely alliances to save the world from an unexpected alien threat. By following the handful of clues left by his father, Tate faces his own doubts while racing to unravel the mysteries in time to thwart the imminent aggressive alien invasion. Jury and Fine artfully craft characters that are complex, flawed, and human—even the aliens. The line between friend and enemy is blurred as Tate struggles to decide whom he can trust. Tate, as well as many of the human and H2 characters, is forced to restructure his mindset in light of the looming threat of the colonization of Earth. The intricate puzzles layered throughout the story make this book genuinely satisfying. With secret lairs, double agents, clever technology, and massive explosions, it is impossible not to be caught up in this thrilling and intense escapade. VERDICT This sequel is just as enjoyable as the first book and is a great recommendation for even the most reluctant reader.—Paige Rowse, Syosset High School, NY

I was raised on all things SciFi TV and movies, but most times I just don't seem to share that same love in books. It's one of the rare times I would actually prefer to watch the TV version over reading the book. That being said every so often a SciFi book comes along that the blurb intrigues me enough to give it a try, and this time it was definitely a winner. I'm so glad I gave this series a chance because both books were jammed packed with action and entertainment, BURN even more than the first book. So for anyone like me who's a bit leery about SciFi in their books, trust me, it's done very well in this one, and definitely worth checking out. From the moment I picked BURN up, I could hardly put it down as one thing just happened after the next. Add in the mystery and clues Tate's father left behind as well as the sweet romance and frenetic action scenes and this one seriously is one heck of a roller coaster ride from start to finish. So if you love books that are incredibly fast paced without a dull moment, BURN (and Scan) are the perfect read for you.

Great follow up to Scan. (No details because I don't want to give anything away - but if you enjoyed Scan then be assured that you will have No disappoint with this sequel.)Disclosure - I did not purchase this but I did not get a free copy either. I borrowed this from my local library's digital program and read it on my Kindle Paperwhite.
