What if time could be manipulated so that someone could travel into the future? What if that someone were Richard III, King of England, who died at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485? And what if he could learn what happened and go back to fight the battle again...with the benefit of hindsight? This is the story of his quest to do just that while trapped in a modern world in which everything is terrifying and strange. .

About the Author Joanne Rosalie Larner had wanted to write a novel since she was a teenager and had started several but never completed any...until now. Her inspiration was the last Plantagenet King, Richard III. She became interested in him after seeing the documentary 'The King in the Car Park' on Channel 4 in February 2013. She eagerly read more, joined the Richard III Society and the rest, as they say (in this case, literally) is history.

By Liza-Jane Not the usual reading for me, I have to say I approached this tale with some trepidation. Thankfully my concerns were quickly dispelled as I was drawn into a world where fantastical things happen but are all perfectly believable. To explain King Richard appearing in the twenty-first century and not only coping, but positively embracing what he finds, sounds very outlandish indeed. It is anything but. The author cleverly weaves her way through the obvious obstacles of time-travel, taking the reader on a truly memorable journey of the impossible. The friendship between Rose and Richard evolves nicely as the book progresses - and always within believable parameters. The pair behave quite normally too, discussing, agreeing, discovering, laughing, disagreeing and even falling out over matters. Richard's curiosity about the very different world he now inhabits allows the reader to see our lives quite clearly through the eyes of another. The author has taken time and trouble here, showing our world with all its benefits and flaws. I especially love how Richard embraces the internet yet still chooses to drink beer with his breakfast. Though I am delighted to see him developing a taste for tea!The author has taken great care with Richard's character, showing him as genuine and caring, intelligent and compassionate but with enough faults and depth to allow us to see a real man.Clearly intended as a light-hearted look at the impossible, this tale ticks many boxes. it is warm and amusing, informative but relaxed yet still poignant and at times, quite sad.I would heartily recommend this tale as a refreshing change from the 'norm' in historical fiction and sincerely hope the author decides to write a sequel!

A lovely book that is also surprisingly educational By Rachel W I really enjoyed this book (and yes, it was a little bit of a guilty pleasure too being an avid Ricardian).Although time travel stories, in regards to historical characters, including Richard III, have been done before, this actually uses the situation to enable the reader to learn a lot about the life of Richard, touching upon some of the controversies of that time and adding plausible ideas of what may have happened, based on what is known of Richard's character from his time as Lord of the North and other actions recorded in contemporary sources. Also, although it covers the 'what is a car' or Richard's love of the marvelous invention, "the zipper", it does this in a way that adds interest to the story, without it becoming tedious. Can you imagine if you described every reaction a person transported in time had to modern life and its strangeness? It would take a book just to get the character through the first day.It is clear that a lot of research and care went into the story line, and the reason for the dilemma that the characters find themselves in keeps you guessing until the end. The story is also down to earth and quite intimate. The author has written about what she knows, and what she loves which just adds to its authenticity. So if you want a relaxing, enjoyable read, that will give you an overview of the history and character of Richard, a little romance, and also a touch of the paranormal, then I suggest this as a great read for you.
2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. at least make it good. This is not By anonymous1 If you are going to do time - travel, a now over-used trope for historical romances, at least make it good. This is not. There was nothing here to make me suspend my disbelief. Better done and more entertaining was: The Court of the Midnight King: A Dream of Richard III , by Freda Warrington , also available on Kindle. Having said that, with time and experience Ms. Larner may be able to re-do this book, fleshing out characters and adding elements that engage the reader better. If she ever does I look forward to re-reading this book.
