He became a crocodile trapper after graduating high school, catching the creatures before dangerous poachers could. Steve met his wife, Terri, at his family's park, and instead of a honeymoon, the pair filmed a wildlife documentary that led to the creation of the well-known series The Crocodile Hunter. Tragically, Steve was killed on September 4, 2006 while filming a documentary when a stingray attacked, piercing his heart. He was forty-four years old. However, his life's work obviously still strikes a chord with kids who voted him the winner of the 100th Who Was...? title.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Good Book By LACHNES MONSTERS Our 10 year old LACHNES MONSTER ordered and bought this book after finding this series in his school library. This particular book was the 100th title created in this series. The 10 year old reports: "it was a good book all around and I learned a lot about crocodiles, and how Steve Irwin spent his life". The order was easy, came within a few days and was an excellent reading level for a 10 year old. Highly recommended.

They loved this book and passed it around. Text features were engaging and the content was awesome. This series is an excellent way to transition kids from non-fiction books to chapter books.

By Rita Goodman I hadn't seen any books from this series before, so I read it before I gave it as a gift. It seemed at a good level for understanding from ages 5 or 6 on up, and I found it interesting as well. The illustrations were nice, too.
