The Blackwater Novels contains the following five books, all of which can be purchased separately in the Kindle store: The Blackwater Journal, Fairy Tales by Martians, Blood and Blackmail, The Voice of the Victim, and A Tale from the Blackwater River. In the space allowed, I will give brief descriptions of these novels, but if you would like more complete descriptions, you can obtain them under the separate listings for each book. The Blackwater Journal: Sixteen-year-old Alanda Streets is trapped in a room from which there is no escape. There are padlocks on the door, the windows have been boarded up, and Alanda’s only contact with humanity is her father, the man who has imprisoned her and told her that she must die because of the terrible secret that she has discovered in his past. There is nothing inside the room that Alanda can use to help free herself. Is there any way out? Or is her life about to come to an end? Fairy Tales by Martians features Charles Dimmer, an eighth-grade science teacher who runs into difficulties when he attempts to explain Darwin’s theory of evolution. After suffering through a bizarre class where he is hounded by an obnoxious student who believes that human beings have evolved from Martians, Charles returns to his house, but when he overhears his wife’s new lover plotting his murder, Charles flees to a motel room where he gets roaring drunk. The next morning, he’s arrested for murder, but the interrogation seems to focus entirely on claims that he told his students they were descended from Martians. Blood and Blackmail: Jesse Barnett is confident his girlfriend Justine didn’t murder Trent, her ex-husband, because he never heard any gunshots on the night the two of them broke into Trent’s house to search for some obscene photos he had taken of Justine’s daughter. However, after Justine is arrested, Jesse’s confidence in her innocence begins to waver when he is told that the murder weapon, which was found near Trent’s bed, had a silencer attached to it. The trial is an odd one, principally because it features Vanessa Evans, the daughter of Trent by a previous marriage. Vanessa describes herself as a pathological liar, and after taking the oath to testify truthfully, she begins to say a number of things that leave everyone wondering who really committed the murder. This includes the members of the jury who take six days to reach a verdict. The Voice of the Victim: Originally entitled Sarcasm, Murder, and Outrage…not only is this a clever murder mystery, but it also doubles as a satirical tour through Darwin City and the modern world of guns, murder, and mayhem…a mixture of slapstick comedy, dark premonitions, and a sweeping indictment of everything that Western culture has ever produced…sassy and extremely irreverent…sometimes romantic and poetic, sometimes mocking and belligerent…too bizarre for some, too intense for others...never trite but always real...this is the most controversial book that you will ever read. A Tale from the Blackwater River: A struggling author named Alanda Streets finds herself in trouble when an old boyfriend begins to stalk her. From the notebooks of Alanda Streets: I suppose A Tale from the Blackwater River might seem like a satire or a parody. But as a matter of fact, my experiences with Kevin Decker have altered my life and aren’t really all that funny. I had so much wanted to become a great writer, but then all these bad things happened to me. I know you’re going to laugh when you read this book, but that wasn’t my intention when I wrote it. What I was really hoping to do was write the great American novel; however, all I’ve been able to come up with is a novella that will have people laughing their heads off. But I’ll be frank with you—what you’re about to read is an amazing story. Or is it a parody? And if it is a parody, who are the ones being mocked?
