America's Most Eligible is a hilarious romp about an ambitious young woman who has come of age in the pretentious world of Southern California. With great humor, Corie Skolnick satirizes "the bad tweed set" of literary academia along with the self-important characters of Hollywood, journalism, self-help Psychology, politics and especially traditional commercial publishing even as the latter languishes in the throes of death at its own hands.

Review A perfectly witty satire with a lot of heart. I loved it. Laughed out loud all the way through and then laughed at myself. A scintillating trip. - Renee Carlino, USA Today Best Selling Author "...America's Most Eligible is brilliant, funny - truly laugh-out-loud funny - and superbly written, a stunning satire." - Amy Ferris, author of Marrying George Clooney
From the Author I write about family dysfunction in all its glorious forms, the way we lie to each other and hurt each other, but then ultimately save each other and love each other. Human beings are complex and funny creatures. I try to keep that in mind.
From the Back Cover Athena Cervantes wants to be a writer - a real writer - and that means only one thing to her - she wants to be a great American novelist! Of course this ambition requires an MFA from a prestigious writing program. Check! And she has to read all the right books. Check, again! And, most importantly, Athena must write the truth about what she knows. The only problem is, not a single thing she thinks she knows is true.

By Lovetoread Being a huge fan of Skolnick’s first novel, ORFAN, I couldn’t wait to read America’s Most Eligible. I was surprised to find that, despite being so different, I loved her second book as much as her first. I can’t think of another author who is able to tell such diverse stories that are equally captivating!I was drawn into the life of Athena Cervantes immediately and wanted to know everything about her. The secrets that were revealed about her past and her identity throughout the book had me guessing until the very end. There’s nothing better than twists and turns that leave you dying to know the real truth. Skolnick does not disappoint in this regard. Everything comes out eventually, but she’ll take you on a wild ride that you don’t want to end.The lessons of Athena’s grad school writing teacher, which are creatively sprinkled throughout the book, revealed that while Skolnick knows the rules, her writing is so compelling because she breaks them regularly! As a writer, I appreciated this a great deal and felt inspired to find my own path as an artist. The romantic aspects of the book are great fun to read and I love the way Skolnick doesn’t follow the traditional formula for the progression of relationships or the resolution of crises that arise within them. I could feel how much fun she must have had taking us on such a fascinating journey with so many unexpected detours!I highly recommend this book for readers of all genres! It has everything. You’ll laugh, cry, learn a lot about creative writing, and fall in love with Corie Skolnick, just as I have!

By Shelly Corie Skolnick’s writing is so wonderfully unique, I honesty can’t imagine not liking this book, no matter your genre preference. Written through the eyes of Athena Cervantes, the snarky, intelligent journalist and would-be novelist, Skolnick breaks many of the so-called rules writers are warned to heed and proves that if you have a way with words, which this author inarguably does, the “rules” don’t apply. Each time I put this book down, I couldn’t wait to pick it up again and that’s not something I say often, even about books I enjoy. With a plot that gets a little twisty toward the end, America’s Most Eligible will definitely make you laugh. Entertaining, funny, and smart!

The combination of in your face humor and genuine wit is a rare and beautiful thing in a book written for and about writers. "Rule #84. Trust me on this one: be not tempted to write about writers. Writers are the most boring people on earth (especially novelists). Who else sits around day in and day out and does nothing more substantial than make s*** up?" -Patricia Olivia Orloff. So glad Skolnick paid no attention to that rule. Can't wait for her next book! Her first book Orfan, which I also adored, has been optioned by one of my all time fave directors. Looking forward to the film.
