A Being(s) in Love Story On the run from his old-blood werewolf family, Tim Dirus finds himself in Wolf's Paw, one of the last surviving refuges from the days when werewolves were hunted by humans and one of the last places Tim wants to be. Kept away from other wolves by his uncle, Tim knows almost nothing about his own kind except that alpha werewolves only want to control and dominate a scrawny wolf like him. Tim isn’t in Wolf’s Paw an hour before he draws the attention of Sheriff Nathaniel Neri, the alphaest alpha in a town full of alphas. Powerful, intimidating, and the most beautiful wolf Tim has ever seen, Nathaniel makes Tim feel safe for reasons Tim doesn’t understand. For five years he’s lived on the run, in fear of his family and other wolves. Everything about Wolf’s Paw is contrary to what he thought he knew, and he is terrified. Fearing his mate will run, Sheriff Nathaniel must calm his little wolf and show him he’s more than a match for this big, bad alpha.

Little Wolf may start off full of sexual tension and slow burn but when it gets to resolving it the book was on fire! I loved Tim’s feistiness even though it was born out of fear and confusion; it showed that he was a fighter. Nathaniel was solid but showed such care and a side you wouldn’t expect from a big bad alpha.Although I wanted to smack Tim to get him to see what was right in front of him, I appreciated that this wasn’t an insta-love fated mate story. They had attraction but they worked at more and they had things in common beyond wanting each other.I loved the town and their friends, the support that both got when they needed it. The background plot of why Tim was running is slowly revealed and, though sad, it is presented in a way that doesn’t drip angst. It kept the story in a good place. I didn’t cry but it wasn’t just fluff either. My one big turn off of this book was that it had feltching. To me, that is just ew, but I can see how wolves would have different standards. If you don’t know what that is, google it… Luckily it wasn’t as detailed as some I’ve come across and was quickly over.Though all the books in this series are standalone, I think you would benefit from reading Book 3, A Beginner’s Guide to Wooing Your Mate, first as this is where we are first introduced to Tim and Nathaniel and there is good world building info about the town this is set in. This book also reference Ray Branigan from Book 1, but you don’t need to read book one at all to understand this. So, apart from a few times I just wanted them to get on with things (and the feltching), this book is a great and sexy read and I highly recommend reading it!

Huge Disappointment By HRC I'm not as generous as the previous reviewer, but my problem with the book is the same -- (spoiler to follow) -- a lack of monogamy, cheating, having sex with someone else after you're involved with your mate and for it to happen half way through the book (at the beginning would have been bad enough) is even worse. The point of a romance is to follow the developing love/relationship between two people (for me anyway - I hate menage), not read about one of the main characters having sex with someone else after he already has a relationship with the other main character. Any book with a lack of monogamy or cheating after the main characters have met is an automatic one star for me. One of the main reasons I enjoy reading shifter books is because of the devotion between mates -- the idea that they will never be with someone else after they meet mate, that that person is their one true love, soul mate, person who completes them, etc. This book was a huge disappointment to me and a total waste of money.

It seems like some people were disappointed because Tim and Nathaniel don't have an easy black and white romance. In spite of the fact that they are mates and therefore "meant to be" they still have to work really hard before things work out for them. Though they're both werewolves, a first for this series, this is in many ways an intensely human story. I found their struggle to understand one another both compelling and relatable. This is definitely not a book where instinct means everyone has easy answers to everything.Tim struggles to understand what his instincts are telling him, while Nathaniel struggles to keep his instincts in check so that me might do what is truly best for the man he hopes will become his mate. Meanwhile set against all of this struggle was super fun dialogue and a really great supporting cast. I had an excellent time reading this book.
