10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Great Book, Kindle Version Needs Work By T. L. Crabtree The sequel is not as good as the original book, I will admit. It's a weird blend of the original book and the movie, so that does get a bit confusing. Technically, the original book didn't leave much room for a sequel that starred Roger Rabbit. It also takes place at least 20 years before Eddie met Roger, even though events are after the original book. But all the inconsistencies were at least explained away in the opening letter by Eddie. So, just don't try to think of that, relax, and enjoy.As for the Kindle version, it has pretty bad formatting. It's presented as one long text file -- no cover pages, no separation of chapters, etc. The worst part is that the entire text is tabbed over, which is surprisingly not very noticeable on the smaller iPhone app screen, but very, very noticeable on my larger Kindle 1 screen. What is very noticeable on all screens is the tabbing throws off all instances of centered text, which causes all centered text to look almost like it's right-aligned, especially when viewing on the iPhone app.Still, it's an inexpensive buy and a good story, so I'd still recommend it on the book alone. It's great to finally see these books back in print somehow. I just wish they'd look better.I hope someday we might actually be able to see the third, unpublished Roger Rabbit book (which as I understand was being held from publication until the movie sequel was released, which never made it too far off the drawing board).
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. :) By Marisa --When Eddie Valiant stumbles upon a plot involving Clark Gable, two murders, and the production of so-called "Toon Tonic" which turns humans into Toons and the other way around as well, it just may be his most dangerous case yet. --There are some hilarious parts of this story, the best of which being when Roger finds the ultimate disguise...with five fingers on each hand! (the book describes this as "discombobulating"!) This is funny, fast-paced, and very cleverly written. --Marisa
5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. More like "Who Wrote This Crap?" By Inspector Gadget Jumpin' Jippers is this bad!Gary K. Wolf's original novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit was drastically overhauled before it was made into the classic 1988 movie. In his novel Roger was a comic-strip star who was murdered, while a slowly eroding duplicate helps hard boiled detective Eddie Valiant solve the case. Vastly different from the movie. This sequel, this awful novel (or a "Nawfel" for short) cannot decide if it wants to be a sequel to either, so it sits on the fence and is stuck halfway.In "Who P-P-P Plugged Roger Rabbit?" (a stupid, annoying title) Valiant is hired by David O. Selznick to find a paperweight stolen from his desk in the midst of casting Gone With the Wind (the movie was made in 1939, 8 years before the book is set, but that's not the only historical inaccuracy). Wolf plays fast an loose with history which comes across as confusing and lazy. But that's just the very beginning of this novel's numerous problems. The plot is muddled, horribly written, full of holes, and borders on nonsensical gibberish. Wolf has absolutely no clue how to introduce or describe characters in a fluent, concise way, and over-describes almost everything. The story moves at a snail's pace, and if it that wasn't bad enough the dialogue is honestly among the worst I have ever read.Here's a example:"Roger, I don't like Toons," I told him."P-p-p-lease, Eddie I am in real trouble," the Rabbit said in a word balloon that appeared near my head. It was brown in color with unusual lettering...Seriously? Of all the nuances to carry over from the (now rather obscure) original novel the word balloons did not get ditched? If Roger is supposed to be a cartoon and movie star in this novel why on Earth would he need word balloons? It slows down every dialogue exchange and makes an already difficult, sluggish novel even more unbearable. What was Wolf thinking?Despite being owned by Disney there are NO recognizable characters in this, Disney or not. Benny the Cab is featured on the back cover but nowhere in the novel. All of the Toons featured are of Wolf's own creation and not one of them is coherently described or utilized. The back cover also features an enthusiastic quote from then-CEO of Disney Michael Eisner. I doubt he actually read the novel. However controversial his reign at Disney might have been, no sane, honest, upstanding gentleman could ever compare this drivel to the 1988 movie, plus I doubt he had the time to slog his way through the stagnant, illogical story. This is not a novel, it is an incongruous mish-mash of random, half-baked ideas with no solid core.Why 2 stars instead of 1? It would have made a decent graphic novel. But a prose novel it ain't. The inside flap states that Wolf is currently working on a third Roger Rabbit novel. Well, this was 22 years ago and it has never come out. There's a reason why this garbage has never been reprinted, Wolf. Don't bother with a third novel. Just...don't.
