I appreciate the fact that the authors are able to demystify the process while recognizing the comprehensive impact of divorce -- the emotional impact on spouses as well as children, the financial fallout, and even the challenge of dividing household assets. The questions that are posed throughout the book help the reader organize data, identify priorities, and become educated about the practical details of a legal process. Whether paying a professional mediator to craft your parenting plan and separation agreement, or resorting to the services of attorneys to hammer out the details, this Guide to Low-Cost Divorce is a must read. Each party is then educated about the "homework" that is required to proceed with efficiency, less stress and better solutions.

The book is written in layman's language and can easily be skimmed in a few hours By TOV Virginia Colin is an experienced Virginia Supreme Court certified mediator who has reflected her decades of experience as a family mediator in a comprehensive "how to" guide for divorcing couples. The book is written in layman's language and can easily be skimmed in a few hours. The book empowers divorcing couples to handle as much as they can on their own and provides advice on when an expert should be involved. Since Virginia is a mediator, the mediation option is presented but, to her credit, she presents it as one of a number of options in an even handed way. I highly recommend this book as a first read for couples who want (or need) a low cost divorce.

The book gives the reader the basic steps and a general overview of the divorce process in the state. It dispenses practical advice on how to keep costs down, take care of yourself, help your children thrive, obtain legal counsel when necessary, and develop a parenting plan. The book also discusses temporary and long term spousal support and child support. Highly recommend this publication!
