By Pat Patterson Life ain't easy, when you are a bat.Actually, life ain't no bed a roses for just about anybody, except cats. I'm talkin' housecats, here, not ocelots. Sure, they are apex predators, but they still have fleas. Not like this fat black Manx SugarBelly, who periodically comes by to sit on me.Anyway, if you happen to be a man-size bat, you have to take life as it comes. Fortunately, the people in Riverville are pretty tolerant, and don't seem to mind that a bat is serving them their venti latte. But, the thing is, you see, that this particular bat happens to be Fledermaus Murphy. As in, THE Murphy. As in Murphy's Law, which says it's gonna go wrong in the worst way at the worst time, when you least expect it.Murphy's not the only strange character in Riverville, but except for the humans, everybody fits in really well with each other. The moles, for example, have a great job doing what they do best.If it weren't for the humans...particularly the humans determined that the high school not have mascots or mottos that are insensitive or aggressive. They spend a lot of time worrying about that sort of thing in Riverville, which is pretty pathetic. But Fledermaus Murphy believes it will all work out, in the end.But then, Murphy is an optimist.
