Noreyko The author continues as he did in the first book by giving a quick "once over" of the minor figures but gives ample discussion of those popes who were either famous or infamous. I thought the group around 900 were pretty bad but the crew around the reformation were terrible. It is obvious that the protestant reformers had a lot to complain about. They just eventually threw everything overboard.The discussion of the Avignon Papacy and the "Schism" clarified for me the cultural and political factors which resulted in the whole affair. This again brings out the fact that politics and religion are a volatile mix.

A Valuable Resource for students of the Catholic Church By Kathleen Igo This second volume of A History of the Popes is a valuable resource for any student of the Roman Catholic Church. This is not an exhaustive look at the Popes, I wouldn't be interested in that - I wouldn't live long enough to read it all!!! But Wyatt North has again given us the information we need: what did this Pope do and how did it affect the Church and the world. That's called cutting to the chase, and I appreciate it greatly. I look forward to Vol 3 and see how Wyatt handles the Popes that we can remember and that played a big part in our lives. Thanks for a truly helpful look at these important and influential men!

Carlos A History of the Popes Volume I & II is a great read. It categorizes the reign of the Popes in different years and gives a good summary of their rule, good or bad. Waiting for Volume III to complete it's history. I will highly recommend especially if you want a glimpse of the election of all the Popes. God bless! Jose Carlos
