In "Pedo Drew," a man loses a bet and is forced to go around his neighborhood confessing to a terrible crime. In "Dear NSA," a woman's obsession with the NSA finds her writing love e-mails to federal agents desperately hoping for a reply. Gun violence is the topic in "Pay to Play," a story about a corporation that matches older citizens with police departments so they can perform the role of volunteer law enforcement officer. "Tips for DEA Sex Party" is a slide show presentation telling DEA agents how to throw and attend sex parties. "The Gastronomics of Brotherhood" journeys along the intestinal tract, as a woman named Clara receives e-mails from both of her brothers, who have been fighting it out for years over things that range from the benefits of enemas to philanthropy. "The Internet Kill Switch Fiasco" is a history paper written in the 2030s about social media gone wrong, the global loss of the Internet and its aftereffects. "Feeding Governor Christie: A Love Story," is a surreal piece about a couple arguing over an Instagram likes while stuffing the Governor of New Jersey and his distinguished guests. In Pedo Drew, it goes from bad to worse in a hurry thanks to mob mentality (not the organized kind). Dear NSA is a quick glimpse into an interesting family dynamic and need unfulfilled. Tips for DEA Sex Party is said power-point presentation. My favorite short is The Internet Kill Switch Fiasco. I laughed out loud (which I don't do often when reading books) during one very interesting scene. I shall not give it away and you won't see it coming. I'll just say 'diner time' and leave it at that. Lastly, From My Cold Dead Hands is a tribute to the 2nd Amendment.Cooper's writing style is unique (and probably not for everyone). His humor is definitely not for everyone. As a fan of Christopher Moore, I see a similarity in the snarky, quick jabs and thought out punch lines. You can read this in one sitting. There are some typos, as well as some in the power-point graphics, but not enough to get all worked up.

There’s no better way to get relief of the troubles and toils of today’s world than immersing yourself in a fine bit of satire about those very times. Dear NSA: A Collection of Politically Incorrect Short Stories by Harmon Cooper is just what the doctor ordered.A series of sharp-tongued missives that make light of the serious stuff spewing from the mouths of politicians and pundits these days, this book will have your sides splitting. Cooper takes potshots at everything, and hits the bullseye with every shot. Wacky stories that touch on reality, this is political satire at its best.

A hodge and a podge, clever and crafty - funny and entertaining story telling; better than Zombie Lolita's mashup By Paksanim 10 short satires based mostly on real-life characters, actual government organizations, and certain social trends/patterns.Mostly a sharp and smart-azz critique of neo-conservative principles and their smarmy underpinnings. Cooper had to enjoy himself concocting these little beauties, as he admits to in his standard 'Back of the Book Schnit' section. While I personally could have done without 'Student Loans', methinks Harmon falls into the category of one who is perhaps trying to re-'Coop' his lost wages and trying to pay back his own loans via writing. Never let a good opportunity to learn and earn go to waste someone must have once said. But it takes a warped mind to twist the innocence of some real situations into the unsettling finality of Cooper's stories. Just read the footnotes at the end to glimpse more of his brain at work.Other topics delved into: gambling and pedophilia (Pedo Drew), the National Security Agency and sibling scrutiny (Dear NSA), senior citizens, sanctioned vigilantism, slum crime and poetic justice (Pay to Play), government instructional how-to (DEA Sex Party), brotherly love/not/love (Gastronomics of Brotherhood), state governors and their formal meals (Christie: Love Story), the Internet dies (Internet Kill Switch), breaking up is hard to confess to (Didn't Sleep with your Mother), and finally 2nd Amendment overkill (Cold, Dead Hands).Toss in a few glaring typos and editing flubs and you have a nice pile of satire to slide through along with your beer or martini, as you wish.
