Uglyville is a deft, subversive YA-Black Comedy hybrid with shades of Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, and Dennis Cooper. It is told from the perspective from Verona Cassidy, a girl obsessed with the golden age of Hollywood. Clever references to classic films abound as this oddball outcast develops a crush on the neighborhood garbage man, a dreamboat in the mold of Brando and Clift. She hatches a plan to win his heart, but the garbage man passes up her affections in favor of a more age-appropriate love interest: Verona's single mother. Verona is undeterred and immediately sets out to spin a web of lies as she pursues the object of her desire. It isn't long before this brisk novella takes a dark turn that I will not divulge and you will not expect. I read this book in two sittings, and I was riveted without fail. Sawney Hatton is not your average Amazon writer. It is obvious that he took tremendous care to produce a polished, original work of art, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

By amy I read this book in two sittings and would have read it in one had not my pesky job interfered. Fast paced and intriguing, I was immediately drawn in by the “Police Evidence Report” documenting the items seized in a search of Verona’s room. Great way to begin a story and make me need to know more.And the story does not disappoint. It is a tale told in classic noir style. From the deliberate pace of the opening pages, things speed up and become more and more complicated and out of control. A dark and wild ride in the tradition of everything from Double Indemnity to Chinatown with a side trip to Fargo.Highly recommended!

Normally, I do not gush over books, but Uglyville was one of the best indie books I've ever read! Initially, I was a little reluctant to read it, because I prefer light reads, but against all odds the author pulled me in. I was fascinated by Verona story and the narrative was spot-on. The intermittent crime evidence was a excellent add-on. I literally couldn't put the book down. Absolutely great job in every way.
