There are incidents and emergencies in the world that defy logical explanation, events that could be defined as supernatural, extraterrestrial, or simply otherworldly. Standard laws do not allow for such instances, nor are most officials or authorities trained to handle them. In recognition of these facts, one organization has been created that can. Assembled by a loose international coalition, their mission is to deal with these situations using diplomacy, guile, force, and strategy as necessary. They shield the rest of the world from their own actions, and clean up the messes left in their wake. They are our protection, our guide, our sword, and our voice, all rolled into one. They are O.C.L.T. Nothing is ever normal in Old Mill, NC, particularly when Cletus J. Diggs and his buddy Jasper decide to go fishing. When Jasper tells him two fishermen they know saw a dinosaur in The Great Dismal Swamp, Cletus is ready to chock it up to shadows and too much beer. When he and Jasper are out fishing themselves and find a bass boat jammed nose first into the bottom of the Perquimans River with nothing left of the other two men but a boot with a leg protruding from it and one big-assed track in the mud, things get serious. Joined by Geoffrey Bullfinch, Wendell "Mack" Macklemore, and Isabella Ferrara of the O.C.L.T., two genetic scientists with a strange story of hurricanes and DNA splicing, and a strange cast of others (including a very loud cockatiel)- Cletus has to solve the mystery of where the monster killing people in the swamp came from, where it's gone and find a way to stop it before it kills again. Unfortunately for the team, taking down a forty foot sixteen ton dinosaur no one believes in is no easy task, and the clock is ticking... This is the Fifth book in the O.C.L.T. series, following the novella "Brought to Light," By Aaron Rosenberg, the novel "The Parting," by David Niall Wilson, the novella "The Temple of Camazotz," also by David Niall Wilson, and the novel "Incursion," by Aaron Rosenberg (in which the existence of the O.C.L.T. as a cohesive unit is finalized). You can read more about the adventures of Cletus J. Diggs in "The Not Quite Right Reverend Cletus J. Diggs & The Currently Accepted Habits of Nature," and "The Not Quite Right Reverend Cletus J. Diggs & The Crazy Case of Foreman James." Coming soon from the O.C.L.T. - "The Noose Club," by David Bischoff (writing with David Niall Wilson).

That's why I jumped on David Niall Wilson's Crockatiel when I saw it, not realizing at the time that it was Book 6 of a series. I considered shelving the book, thinking that coming in in the middle of things might leave me feeling lost, but the lure of a giant hybrid crocodile proved to be too great. I delved in -- and wasn't disappointed.A routine expedition uncovers the existence of a living Sarcosuchus, a giant (or super) crocodile. Injured in a fight with a tiger, it leaves pieces of itself behind. Rather than run the risk of encountering the beast again, Eddie Dodd seizes upon the opportunity to grab the samples he needs from what the dinosaur left behind. After all, he needed a crocodile sample, and wasn't one croc the same as another? The samples are then sent to a genetics lab in North Carolina, and we all know what happens, don't we, because scientists can't resist a challenge. Their research needs to be abandoned when their facility is demolished by the forces of nature and their genetically enhanced samples are left behind.Jump 10 years. Rumor has it that there's some sort of giant crocodile loose in a North Carolina swamp. Whatever can it be? For those who are fans of this type of story -- or anyone who has watched any of those cheesy SyFy movies -- you know what it is. What follows is a fast-paced ride with enough thrills, chills, and humor to satisfy any fan of the genre. SyFy can take a lesson from this one.Don't let the fact that this book is a late entry into a series. While there are references made to previous cases, and it's obvious some of the characters have a history, the story stands on its own, and it just might be enough to fill up your TBR pile for a bit, as it might encourage you to seek out and read the previous entries in the series. I know I will.

Down in the Great Dismal, Something Lurks By Gerard Houarner Things ain't quite right in the Great Dismal Swamp, and eventually, even the The Not Quite Right Reverend Cletus J. Diggs gets involved along with a hardy handful of author David Niall Wilson's colorful regulars who pop up here and there in his fictional universe. The premise might be pitched as Jurassic Park meets Duck Dynasty/Swamp People, and yes, there are a couple of references to the SyFy Channel where such an idea might be pitched. Of course, they'd be doing themselves a favor picking this one up and sticking with the author's fast-paced thriller storytelling. In this story, the characters snap and pop, and the Big Bad lurks with real menace. This book is genuinely fun and entertaining, a great entry point into Wilson's sprawling fictional world and a dynamic adventure in its own right.

I hope one of the other authors will hurry up with a new one also. This one was good, but it didn't feel like the first four OCLT . More familiar characters would have been good.Isabella is extremely different than her other appearance. She was interesting, a little mysterious, and totally bad a**. Definitely leaned toward shooting the problem away as now, but could be reasoned with, she had a personality. In this 'episode', she is an automaton, a totally obnoxious witch. As is, she, doesn't add to OCLT.Cletus was a likable enough character, but not interesting enough for an OCLT main character.I can't remember the new older character's name or much about him; not a memorable character.I really enjoyed Ned and JT. I wouldn't mind having them come around again.I always enjoy Mack, though in this one I would have liked more 'Mack'anisms. More of th nerd I've come to know & love.I need a Rebecca York fix.I miss R C. It's not OCLT without him.Overall good story, just needed to be more OCLT.Now all you authors, get cracking. You've hooked me, now give me something to read!
