By Mymcbooks My Review: Since Amp the Alien from outer space crash landed into Zack’ bedroom, it has been nothing but trouble. They constantly argue as they try to repair his ship. But apart from that they seem to get along well, spending time together watching scary movies and eating junk food. But after receiving a signal from Amp’s ship the Erdians dispatched Ohm, Amp's commander, to collect the stranded alien. Zack knew it was time for Amp to go back to his planet. Now Zack with the help from his friend Olivia, have to come up with a solution on how to launch Ohm’s spaceship back to his planet. They think of ways to launch Ohm’s spaceship by showing the use of a tennis ball thrower.Interesting to read about the level of science used in this book to help the little blue aliens get back to their plant.•the law of leverage to increase speedThe last few pages gives instructions on how to make a Atlatl. A Atlatl is a tool that uses leverage to achieve greater velocity. Do-It-Yourself Science Experiment included. Will he be able to convince the Erdians not to invade earth and would he miss his blue alien friend? Great illustration by Macky Pamintuan which helps tell the story.FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from HarperCollins in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.

The 'Alien in My Pocket' Series can make readers of book-shy kids, and 'Ohm vs. Amp' adds to the fun By Ideal We LOVE this series, and this book sparked our talking about science and related subjects for weeks. The vocabulary, concepts and experiments (even if you scan but don't conduct them) in the series engage young readers, and each book stands well on its own. We started with one of the middle books, which the kid independently *devoured* within 48 hours (at mealtimes), and that was a huge and welcome surprise. We checked out all the 'Alien in My Pocket' volumes at the library in order, then bought this one (which arrived on its release date), and we eagerly await the next book! That initial book catalyzed this kid's appreciation of well crafted stories and tapping one's imagination, and our seeking other chapter books (like Weird Planet) -- yet so far, none has been as quickly read/liked as "Amp" the Alien books. When I suggested the library buy all the new volumes, the librarian revealed she'd featured an 'Alien in My Pocket' volume at a book talk; the kids loved it. Nate Ball, keep 'em coming, please!
