Collected in print for the first time. The Dark Horse and its sequel/prequel, The White Knight. The Dark Horse Paul Hammond is dead. That’s what tough and sexy LAPD Detective Daniel Moran tells his lover, Hollywood actor Sean Fairchild—and Sean wants to believe him, but what about those threatening postcards in Hammond’s handwriting? What about the fact that he’s seeing Hammond everywhere he goes? Yes, Sean’s had some emotional problems in the past, but that was a long time ago and he’s not imagining things, so why is Dan looking at him that way? The White Knight It’s a Hollywood cliché: the hot and handsome bodyguard. But in the case of LAPD Detective Daniel Moran, it’s all true. Dan is everything Sean ever wanted in a leading man, but Dan’s kind of an old-fashioned guy. It’s his job to keep Sean safe and in one piece -- happy is someone else’s problem.

The first half works well and has a self-contained mystery plot with decent character development for a short novella. The second half starts the story up some time after the first half, but then flashes back to several points in time. It's confusing and reads more like a rough draft or outline for a possible longer story. The mystery in this half of the book doesn't come to much and the ending is badly slapped together.Lanyon could have fleshed out the first half and had a good full-length mystery, but it appears he was unsure where to extend the story and flesh out the characters.

By Ro Hollywood actor Sean Fairchild and his bodyguard-turned-lover Detective Daniel Moran are enjoying breakfast on the deck at the Malibu beach house when a threatening postcard from Sean’s stalker arrives in the mail. Dan tries to persuade Sean that the stalker is dead; so if not the stalker, who is sending the postcards? And how well does Sean really know Dan?The Dark Horse is a well written who-done-it mystery with realistic characters. Sean is an emotionally fragile actor who is attempting to find balance in the turmoil of his life. Dan is a compassionate man who loves and accepts the flawed Sean. The amazing Josh Lanyon is a master at creating suspense that keeps me glued to the very end of the story and wanting more. This is a splendid and very enjoyable saga.On a filming site in Wales, actor Sean Fairchild takes a nasty fall down a flight of stairs that lands him in the hospital confused and calling for his boyfriend LAPD Detective Daniel Moran. However when Dan arrives at Sean’s bedside, something is different between them now. Fears of the past, that Sean thought were buried, have come back to haunt him.The White Knight is the continued story of Sean and Dan. However, it is essential to read The Dark Horse first. Sean is dealing with flashbacks of his past, while Dan is apprehensive about their future together. The exceptional Josh Lanyon delivers a complex story that reveals how Sean and Dan met and their combined struggles with the here and now. The main focus is the emotional evolution of finding one’s self after surviving life’s trauma. The White Knight is another impressive saga that completes The Dark Horse and I enjoyed it immensely.

Hetherington I liked it -- I liked the characters -- my only objection was parts of the second book belonged in the first book. I'm always troubled when an author goes into a different font to define a past sequence. That said I basically skimmed these portions. Well balanced between story and sex. But as a whole enjoyable. I'd purchase another book involving these characters!
