Louis L’Amour’s Western stories are beloved worldwide. Now, collected together for the first time in a single volume, are three of his finest tales of the West. The texts have been restored to their original appearances in magazines. In “The Lion Hunter and the Lady,” Cat Morgan is plying his trade—trying to bag a mountain lion alive in order to sell it to a circus or zoo. As he and Long John William try to lure the cat from a tree, they’re interrupted by a lynch posse, the leader of which accuses Cat and Long John of running off his horse herd—and they intend to hang them right where they stand!“The Trail to Peach Meadow Cañon” tells of Mike Bastian, who has been raised by an outlaw chief, Ben Curry, and trained in frontier skills by Curry’s most trusted associates.Jed Ashbury was stripped and forced to run the gauntlet by the Indians in “Riding for the Brand.” Able to outfit himself from the contents of a covered wagon that had been attacked and left behind, Jed also learns what the mission of those killed in the attack was and determines to push forward with it—regardless of the consequences.Skyhorse Publishing is proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction that takes place in the old West. Westerns—books about outlaws, sheriffs, chiefs and warriors, cowboys and Indians—are a genre in which we publish regularly. Our list includes international bestselling authors like Zane Gray and Louis L’Amour, and many more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Good reading By Hillbilly John As always Louis Lamours stories are good, but the editor wrote several pages apparently just to fill space and trying to impress us with his knowledge. Some of the stories appeared to have been copped up and lose continuity at times, which I suspect was the editor.

By fluffyredfox So very tongue in cheek, an hysterical giggle from start to finish. The joys of fan love as IRW gets a visit from an unhinged fan! Bit close to home this one for me, as I have wasted many an hour camped out in various authors shed, but never thought to order pizza – way to go Matty-Bob.I was snorting and giggling through this story and it was really great to see IRW humorous side.Loved the Misery reference and I’m sure there were many more that I missed as IRW is so clever in adding little bits like that, just see the blurb to Last Winter, sorry Final Winter!Btw Matty-Bob I DO love IRW more than you, so ner|

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Inspired by Iain's real life and crazed stalker fan, Matty-Bob Cash By Annabele First things first, while most readers only gave four stars, the way I rate what I read is to Start with Five and deduct from there. I found this collection without the usual reasons I deduct stars, therefore I give it the full Five.Inspired by true-life events (Spring 2015). A younger, up and coming author [Iain Rob Wright] was tracked to his home address by a crazed stalker fan, Matty-Bob [his version & website link included in this book], brought the horror straight out of the pages of his books, and into his real world. While stalking is a very serious and frightening experience, I love how Iain has turned this horrifying incident into a laughable, funny, freak fest of chills. There were certain parts where at Iain's occasional daydream like inner commentary, fugging pizzas, swinging testicles, and surreal comments, was just too darn funny, I couldn't help but laugh. Knowing how I feel when uninvited guests show up at my house, especially without calling first, the thought of a crazy wacko doing it would be downright terrifying. I love the way Iain doesn't stop seeing the humor in things.Matty-Bob Cash’s version [and website link included]: Reading Matty-Bob's version of the stalking incident, blaming others as the cause for his stalking is so far fetched, it confirms just how completely delusional he is. The thought of his ever being released from the hospital is down right scary. No noticeable typos or errors in sentence structure, the storyline captures your attention and doesn't release you until it's over. Highly Recommended.

“Who’d want to kill a dumb cartoon bunny?” That’s what Eddie Valiant wants to know. He’s the toughest private eye in Los Angeles, and he’ll handle anything – if you’re human. If you’re a Toon, that’s another story. Eddie doesn’t like Toons – those cartoon characters who live side-by-side with humans. Not the way they look, and especially not the way they talk: word-filled balloons come out of their mouths and then disintegrate, leaving dust all over his rug. Eddie will work for a Toon if his cash supply is low enough. So he reluctantly agrees when Roger Rabbit, a Toon who plays straight man (or should that be straight rabbit) in the Baby Herman cartoon series, asks him to find out who’s been trying – unsuccessfully – to buy his contract from the DeGreasy Brothers syndicate. Then Rocco DeGreasy is murdered – and Roger is the prime suspect! The rabbit is also, as Eddie soon discovers, very, very dead. Who censored Roger Rabbit? And who shot Rocco DeGreasy? Was it Roger, or was it Rocco’s hot-cha-cha girlfriend, Jessica Rabbit? Why had Jessica – a pretty steamy number for a Toon – ever married a dopey bunny in the first place? And why does everybody want Roger’s battered old teakettle? As Eddie combs L.A. from the executive suites of the DeGreasy Brothers to Sid Sleaze’s porno comic studio, he uncovers art thefts, blackmail plots….and the cagiest killer he’s ever faced. In Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, author Gary K. Wolf has created a wonderfully skewed – and totally believable – world compounded of equal parts Raymond Chandler, Lewis Carroll, and Walt Disney. This riotously surreal spoof of the hard-boiled detective novel is packed with action and laughs. From first page to last, Who Censored Roger Rabbit? is shear delight. Celebrated author Gary K. Wolf’s cult classic and highly praised novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? is the basis for the blockbuster Walt Disney/Steven Spielberg Academy Award winning film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. This version includes an author’s sketch of Roger Rabbit PLUS autographs of Gary K. Wolf AND Roger Rabbit himself! The detective on the cover is portrayed by Mr. Wolf.

Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, by Gary K Wolf

Review This antic mystery, in a tradition -- and on a terrain -- familiar to fans of Raymond Chandler and Ross Macdonald, amuses as it intrigues.                         The New York Times   An impressively sustained, original mix of fairy tale and burlesque ... Wacky!                         Publishers Weekly   A decidedly different and thoroughly enjoyable piece of fiction.  Highly recommended.                         Roanoke Times and World NewsIt's fun.  And crazy. And it works.  Gary K. Wolf has created a fast-moving send up of the classic trench coat thriller, turned the world 90 degrees to left and then stirred in the barnyard beasties of the comic pages.  The action stays frantic.  Wolf creates a world wacky and real enough to keep you turning the page.                         Long Beach Independent Press Telegram   The style is a well-oiled version of Raymond Chandler, and characters are about what one would expect if Daffy Duck were to become the producer of "Wild Kingdom".  Hilarious.                         Kansas City Star  The ultimate tongue-in-cheek burlesque of the typical hard-boiled private eye thriller.  Who Censored Roger Rabbit? stands with the true detective epics of the '30s and '40s.                         Jacksonville Times Union   A wild, wacky and highly original story which never has a dull moment.                         Chattanooga News-Free PressWolf's writing is genuinely funny.  His characters wander around in a Chandleresque Disneyland of comic violence that is surreal without being unrealistic.  He also trots out every cliché imaginable in the detective/mystery genre, and milks them for every laugh, or groan, that he can get.                         Bestsellers

About the Author It was watching Saturday morning cartoons "for research purposes" that inspired Wolf's idea for Roger Rabbit. "It was during the commercials," says Wolf. "I saw Tony the Tiger and the Trix Rabbit, and Cap'n Crunch, cartoon characters, talking to real people. And nobody seemed to think that was odd. I thought, 'What a great idea for a novel. A place where Toons lived side by side with humans.' I wove that into a mystery, and bingo, I had my book." His innovative concept was the basis for the novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? Wolf found his idea hard to sell -- this time to publishers. Even with three well reviewed science fiction novels to his credit, it took Wolf two years and 110 rejections to find a publisher for his unusual book. "Publishers told me it was too esoteric. Too weird. Nobody would understand it," Wolf explains. Finally, a small publisher took a chance and brought it out. Soon after, Walt Disney Pictures came calling. Disney and Steven Spielberg teamed up to make Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The film became the most critically acclaimed and highest-grossing film of 1988, bringing in more than $750 million at the box office as well as four Academy Awards.   Wolf has written ten novels.    He currently lives in Boston.

Darker than the film By Marshall Lord This is the cult classic which inspired the film "Who framed Roger Rabbit" but the original book is much darker and more adult in tone than the film - and in spite of the fact that half the characters are "toons," much less cartoonish. This is set in an alternative Hollywood in which cartoon characters or "toons" are real. Unlike the film however, they are neither industructible nor immortal. In the book, a toon can generate a temporary "doppelganger" duplicate of himself or herself, and these expendable copies are used as stunt doubles for all the dangerous or lethal work in films. A toon in this book who is hit by a bullet will die just as easily as a human. The narrator and central character is P.I. Eddie Valiant - Bob Hoskin's character in the film. Other characters who were translated recognisably to the film from the book include cartoon comedy star Roger Rabbit, his humanoid toon wife Jessica Rabbit, and toon star Baby Herman. As in the film, Eddie Valiant is hired by Roger Rabbit for a number of reasons including marital problems - in the book his beautiful wife Jessica has left him for his agent, Rocco DeGreasy. Roger wants her back, and believes Rocco has put pressure on her to leave him. At first he seems to be talking nonsense. But a few chapters into the book, both Roger and Rocco are murdered. The police - human and toon divisions - think Roger killed his agent and Jessica murdered him in revenge. Shortly before he died Roger Rabbit created a doppelganger; this double persuades Eddie Valiant to look for evidence that both Jessica and his late self were innocent of the murders.Eddie sets out to clear Roger and Jessica - with zany results.A clever black comedy - well worth a read. The film was technically brilliant, but this original is a much cleverer story.

I want a Roger reboot By Lee I was pleasantly surprised to find this book for my Kindle as I've been curious to read it since I learned of its existence, but while I enjoyed it, I can see why it has remained out of print even though it inspired a well-known movie - it's not for the same audience as the movie. The audience for the movie were probably similar to the Pixar crowd nowadays - in search of enough movement and colour to keep very young kids interested yet also requiring enough subtlety and sophistication to engage the parents. But it's hard to say who Gary Wolf was writing for - fans of hard boiled crime fiction who also have the ability to completely suspend their disbelief? I say "completely" because even when you accept a world where comic strip characters are real, talk in speech balloons, and are photographed to create comics, it does not really prepare you for the plot device used to resolve the mystery - it's one of those endings that leaves you feeling the story did not play by its own rules. It's possible the unlikely plot twists and strained metaphors ("I sank a well into my bottom drawer, and struck more bourbon") are deliberately over the top for the sake of humour, but whether the joke holds up for the length of a short novel depends on your taste.Even so, I give it a high rating because I did enjoy its uncompromisingly darker tone. No "dip" is required to dispatch toons; they get shot dead and bleed. In this version of the story Jessica Rabbit really is "bad", not just "drawn that way" and unlike in the movie there is no need to mess around with freeze frame to see her without her underwear. While Roger himself has some of the same overly helpful, goofy nature that was a big part of his personality in the movie, he also manages to solve elements of the case on his own, makes allusions to Socrates, solves chess problems and like all the other characters in the book, seems to be hiding something.I've read about on-again, off-again plans for a sequel to the movie, and given the current trend towards going back to the roots of a series and creating reboots and re imaginings rather than straight sequels, it would be very interesting to see someone forget trying to compete with the latest Disney/Pixar masterpiece and create a mature audience Roger Rabbit that stayed closer to the book, maybe with a better ending but still aiming for a niche market of adults who grew up with Roger and are ready for a darker, more complex story. One can dream.

A rare case where the film was better By Michael Scott Caveat emptor: aside from the story setting -- a world in which humans and Toons coexist in the real world -- and a handful of character names, this book has pretty much nothing to do with the film WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?The book is not particularly well-written. It's not awful, but it's just not very good. The majority of it goes like this: our detective narrator, Eddie Valiant, gets Character 1's side of the story. He then goes to Character 2 and repeats this story to them. Character 2 balks and tells him a different version of the story. Valiant returns to Character 1, reviews the story as Character 1 told it and then tells Character 1 what Character 2 had to say about all this and this happens over and over again, getting pretty tedious after a while. Wolf/Valiant never skip past with a "I told him the information I got from the girl," it's always reiterated in complete detail. The book could probably be cut by half just by removing overly redundant detail, but then I guess we wouldn't get all the descriptions of what the Toons' word bubbles look like. (In this version, the Toons are comic strip Toons, not movie Toons.)Valiant is a pushover -- he'll believe whatever anyone says to him until someone else contradicts it, and then he'll believe THEM at face value until further notice. This would be funny if it were being played that way, with Valiant being a too-nice poseur of a P.I., but the book seems to think it's presenting him as being appropriately hardnosed. Several times it's noted that he is a former Marine and he's constantly drinking some kind of alcoholic beverage -- in a world where Toons are living breathing creatures, it's a little sad that the author seems to have spent the bulk of his creative efforts in coming up with a new metaphor to describe Valiant taking a drink every time he does so.There's an attempt to make humans vs. Toons some kind of racial allegory. Their police forces are segregated, with humans handling human cases and Toons handling Toons exclusively, and there's a brief and pointless scene where Eddie's weekly poker game bails on him when Roger shows up ("That was the deal: no women and no Toons"). But this is never really explored, or much utilized, it's just kind of a superficial gloss over the proceedings. Eddie is clearly different because he doesn't mind Toons as much, but the book never goes into why, just occasionally pats him on the head for being such a good guy on the inside. The plot is kind of all over the place and contains no fewer than three flagrant deus ex machinas in the third act. The formatting was decent in the Kindle edition but there were some OCR errors and a new character's dialogue does not always start a new paragraph. The characters don't have distinct voices and it can be momentarily confusing, and when this happens repeatedly over the course of the entire book, it becomes a little aggravating.I give it one star for being readable, another star for a great concept, and a third star for inspiring a film that did a much better job of leveraging the concept and its opportunities. It's $2, so it's not a big financial loss if you get curious and pick it up, but you could probably find better things to do with your time.

At twenty-three, Ann-Marie is single, broke, and furious, and convinced that love—sweet love!—is the answer to all of her problems. Then she meets legendary second wave feminist Stephanie Haight, who becomes obsessed with the idea that she can save Ann-Marie and her entire generation. From Little Mermaid-themed warehouse parties and ritual worship ceremonies summoning ancient goddesses to disastrous one-night stands with strikingly unsuitable men, Ann-Marie hurtles through London and life. Fiercely clever and unapologetically wild, Eat My Heart Out is the satire for our narcissistic, hedonistic, post-postfeminist era.

Review "With this electric romp of a novel, Pilger turns a neon light on to the intersection of romantic love and feminism." —Publishers Weekly"Craving whatever she hasn't got and detesting whatever she has, Zoe Pilger's brilliant and psychically bulimic narrator is everyone's anti-Bridget Jones. An awareness of the pathology of romantic love, and a terror of what lies in its absence, lies at the heart of this brutally funny book." —Chris Kraus, author of I Love Dick"Protagonist Ann-Marie wanders through London's glittery underground of Bright Young Artists, concussed by life itself. Pilger's love story fictionalizes her contexts so extremely that every adolescent romance--with art, feminism, even that gross dude she had a one night stand with--is only a deceptive form mobilized to assault neutered authority. A masochistic siren song--100 percent more awesome than The Little Mermaid." —Trisha Low, author of The Compleat Purge"Super-smart, funny and dark as midnight." —Marie Claire UK"An unflinching account of post-feminist urban life. Satirical, snarky and wildly entertaining." —Observer"Brilliantly odd, very funny." —Financial Times"Perfectly pitched satire." —New Statesman

About the Author Zoe Pilger is an art critic for The Independent and winner of the 2011 Frieze International Writers Prize. She has appeared on BBC Newsnight's The Review Show, Channel Four's Sunday Brunch, and Sky News. Eat My Heart Out is her first novel. It was published in the UK by Serpent's Tail to wide acclaim, garnering positive reviews from publications such as Marie Claire, The Daily Mail, the Financial Times, and the New Statesman.

This is a clever, funny, thought provoking novel. It takes subjects society would normally tip toe around and punches them in the face with beautifully straight-faced satire.

90 of 93 people found the following review helpful. A Beautiful Work of Art By Elizabeth Hendry It's very obvious from reading all of these reader reviews that The House of the Seven Gables is not for everyone. But, I urge you to determine if it is for you. If it is, you certainly don't want to miss it. This novel was not written with today's readers in mind. You cannot call it quick-paced, by any stretch of the imagination. The novel is however, a wonderful work of art. Every sentence, every word is carefully crafted, carefully chosen. This novel is meant to be read slowly, to be savored. The novel tells a fairly simple story--the story of the house, and its perhaps doomed family of inhabitants. Many years after a curse by a supposed warlock--there are only 4 members of the doomed family surviving. Is the house haunted? Maybe. Hawthorne is so clever--every time he tells us about a supposed ghost or haunting, he gives us a more "reasonable" explanation. Were they ghosts swirling around the house one evening, or was it just the wind. Is the family doomed? Maybe, but then there is young Pheobe who seems anything but. The House of Seven Gables is far superior to any contemporary gothic you can read. It is novel writing at its best. The characters have depth, the story is engaging, and even, at times, funny. But, you have to be ready for a novel written well over a hundred years ago. If you are, you are in for a treat.

Hawthorne's Supernatural Thriller, 19th Century Style By Jeffrey Leach Nathaniel Hawthorne is probably one of the most despised figures in the American literary canon, at least in the minds of the millions of school children forced to read "The Scarlet Letter." I will go so far as to admit I never finished that novel. I took one look through the book and laughed at the ridiculous idea of reading such a convoluted looking story. That was at age seventeen. Now, many years later I am able to go back and actually read some of these daunting novels. What is surprising is that they are not daunting at all, just written in an ornate style from a different age. The plots often deal with the same issues and concerns modern people fret about. For those uninterested in relationships and human dramas, there are also great old stories with supernatural elements, which is where this book comes in. This edition of the book includes an introduction by Mary Oliver and several commentaries on the work by Edwin Percy Whipple, Henry T. Tuckerman, F.O. Matthiessen, and Herman Melville. The Melville commentary is actually a letter the author of "Moby Dick" sent to Hawthorne where he concludes with a demand that Hawthorne "walk down one of these mornings and see me." Pretty neat.In "The House of the Seven Gables," the author tells his reader the story is a romance. What he means by this terminology is not a cheap paperback that involves swooning hearts with Fabio on the cover, but "a legend prolonging itself, from an epoch now gray in the distance, down into our own broad daylight." Hawthorne's specific goal is to show that the bad behavior of one generation devolves on future descendents. He accomplishes this by examining the Pyncheon family, a clan founded on America's shores by the stern Puritan Colonel Pyncheon, who used his considerable influence to inveigle prime real estate from one Matthew Maule in the 17th century. Pyncheon carried out this task by using the Salem witchcraft scare to secure Maule's execution. In his last moments, Maule laid a curse on the good Colonel and all of his descendents, telling him that God would give them blood to drink as a punishment for this evil injustice. Shortly after the Colonel builds his house with seven gables on Maule's property, he dies in a way that makes Maule's curse seem to be a reality. Rather than trace this terrible evil down through the ages in minute detail, Hawthorne only touches on a few important points before beginning his story in the middle of the 19th century. The Pyncheon family is slowly moldering into extinction when Hawthorne introduces us to poor old Hepzibah Pyncheon. She lives alone in the ancient estate, reduced to near starvation because her brother Clifford is in prison and Jaffrey Pyncheon, a rich judge who lives in his own manor in the country, refuses to offer her assistance. The only way to survive for Hepzibah is to open a penny store in an old part of the decaying house. Just when things reach a nadir, another Pyncheon turns up to save the day. This is Phoebe, a vivacious young lady who lives in the country. This fetching lass is a blessing for Hepzibah; she runs the penny store, helps to lift the gloomy atmosphere in the house, and when Clifford returns from his long imprisonment, Phoebe entertains the doddering man with her multitude of charms. She even strikes up an acquaintance with Holgrave, a young boarder in the house. Things start to look up when yet another tragedy strikes the Pyncheon family, leading to the momentary evacuation of the ancestral estate by Hepzibah and Clifford before Hawthorne settles all accounts in an ending that is both quick and highly implausible. The reputation this book has with many people is not good. They disparage the lengthy digressions, the massive amount of time Hawthorne takes to explore Hepzibah's dilemma over opening the penny store, the sentences that go on and on without seeming to make any point whatsoever, and the organization of the book as a whole. There is some foundation in these charges. The chapters describing the penny store do seem interminable, especially when viewed in the context of the story as a whole. As for the descriptions of Hepzibah's scowling countenance and Clifford's puny mental state, we get the idea well before Hawthorne quits harping on them. Yes, there are flaws in "The House of the Seven Gables."However, I personally enjoyed the deeply rich 19th century prose. Hawthorne's command of the English language is impressive and, at times, as precise as a cruise missile. One need only read the chapter about Judge Jaffrey Pyncheon's unfortunate incident in the house to grasp the beauty of this author's style. As for the digressions, if people have a problem with chapters such as "Alice Pyncheon" and the introductory material setting down the history of the doomed family, it is really their loss. It is when Hawthorne writes about supernatural elements that he really managed to grab me. If this counts as a lengthy digression from the story, I will take more, please! If I had to assign a Hawthorne novel to a group of slack jawed high school students, I would give them this one in place of "The Scarlet Letter." At least with "The House of the Seven Gables," someone might enjoy the eerie curse that united the Maules with the Pyncheons for two centuries. A letter sewn on clothing cannot stack up against ghosts, a disembodied hand, and mysterious deaths. The kids will still grumble, but not as much when they realize there are less "thees" and "thous" tossed around in this novel.

By John Salerno I must say that the negative reviews that I have read about Nathaniel Hawthorne's The House of the Seven Gables are sorely off the mark. The prevalent sentiments are that the plot is dull (or almost absent), the characters are flat, and the description is overwrought. But you who say this are simply missing the point, as well as taking Hawthorne's work out of context. You have to understand that this novel was written during a very transitional period in literature. Writers had shifted from the Enlightenment to Romanticism (the period in which Hawthorne writes), and as Hawthorne writes his novels, another movement is being made to Realism. Realism is what we are used to in modern fiction. It contains real characters and real events. But Hawthorne had not yet fully employed these new ideas, and he still hung on to the Romantic sentiments. Therefore, he was much more interested in ideas rather than character development (a modern technique). Hawthorne chooses to convey ideas, emotions, morals, etc. rather than fully developed the characters like they would be in a novel today. As for no plot, you have to keep in mind that Hawthorne still looks to the old tradition (not to mention his guilt of his heritage), so he uses his writing as a way to teach moral lessons, not necessarily to describe a highly detailed story and plot. Finally, I can't deny that there is plenty of narrative description, but most of it serves a great purpose, and for the parts that you think do not belong, just read and enjoy them for their poetic beauty and technical merit.Hawthorne is a fantastic writer, but to acknowledge this, the reader must not take his work out of its context.

By Avid Reader After reading books 1& 2 of this trilogy I was thrilled to receive this 3rd and final book for my honest review.I think this was my favorite of the set. Franco is a wealthy billionaire who has an entitled attitude you quickly realize he was raised to emulate. He doesn't even realize he is doing anything wrong the way he acts and treats others, especially women. When he goes through Organic Chemistry Matchmaking to find a girlfriend, Brooks Adams, co-owner with his brother Garret, is frustrated beyond belief that they have been unable to find a match for Franco. He eventually puts his assistant Eliza in charge of reviewing all their files to vet out dates for Franco. But Franco quickly learns that Eliza isn't impressed with anything about him, in fact she seems somewhat disgusted by his behavior and it baffles him.Eliza is more than frustrated with their client Franco Del Rossi. No woman is good enough for him. Whether her ankles are too thick, her hair too blond or her background too pagenty, he finds fault with every one. Until he finally takes a long look at the fiesty and beautiful Eliza and realizes what he really wants is the woman that doesn't take any of his crap and tells it like it is.The characters from books 1&2 are present in this book and all are well fleshed out and their individual positions in this series made clear without having to read the other two, although I'd highly recommend reading all three and doing it in order. Things will make a little more sense that way, but it isn't necessary.I'm not reducing my score for this, but I did find fault with the immense errors that were present. Occasion errors are expected but the amount of extra words, two words flipped, spelling or incorrect wordage (though instead of thought, etc) became overwhelming towards the end. Too many times I had to re-read a sentence several times to figure out the correct intent.Nonetheless, I am now and always an Allison Gatta fan and highly recommend her books!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.I loved the other two books in this trilogy but I think this one was probably my favorite. I loved Eliza's sharp tongue and no nonsense attitude. She didn't take crap from anyone including Franco the arrogant billionaire who thought just by snapping his fingers he could get anything he wanted. The chemistry between the two was palpable but so was Eliza's hatred for everything Franco, at least until she really got to know him. I also was very happy to see both Brooks and Garrett make small appearances cause really the more Billionaires the merrier, right? Will definitely be reading more from Allison!

I was disappointed in book 1 of the trilogy (Bargaining with the Bride), but loved Book 2 (Bargaining with the Boss) and Book 3 (Bargaining with the Billionaire). Eliza is the younger sister of Rachael from Book 1. She's trying to help her matchmaking company deal with Franco, a troublesome, picky billionaire with a public image problem. Eliza and Franco read like real people, with believable actions and reactions. I like the way their relationship kind of sneaks up on them, when at the beginning, he couldn't even remember her name. Very nicely written.

After reading this, I realized that most of the girls don't give the enough space a man wants. Girls usually complain that they don't get proper attention etc.So appreciate the time he spends with because that's what matter only.

Most is common sense however, it tells you how to use the things you most likely know already and some that you don't. It's not a "fall in love fast" kind of thing but it teaches you how to use your best features to your advantage.

Champagne I had the pleasure of editing this astonishing story for Hanna, and I can truthfully say it's one of the best pieces I've seen from an indie writer in a while. It's a flight of fantasy that takes the reader out of this world, with the kind of depth that makes you start asking those ageless questions. This is a hair-raising trip through the writer's wild imagination, studded with fantastical creatures and bizarre turns, compelling you toward an ending you'll never see coming. Highly recommended!

It makes your imagination soar and brings to life some very philosophical concepts. Also I found Hanna's writing style to be quite original and I really enjoyed the sense of humor he tends to add every now and then.Thank you very much for this book. I hope you keep doing great work like that! Looking forward for the next one !

By Bob Walch Everyone knows that monsters love underpants so if you are trying to move your little one from diapers to underpants this cute book will make the task much easier. By Sunshine on a Rainy Day SUMMARY: "Monsters all Love underpants, and think pants are fun-tastic. They like all patterns, shapes, and styles, and twanging pants elastic!"ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations are large, brightly colored and full of fun and zany details. Kids will love looking at these pictures.THE GOOD: Although I haven't read the first books in this series, I find this book to be a very cute concept. There are so many creative ways monsters use their underpants and such a variety of creative underpants! The story has some laugh out loud parts that kids will absolutely love. And if you are looking for a book that will encourage children to read, this one fits the bill.THE NOT AS GOOD: The rhyming is so extremely forced that it took away some of the enjoyment for me.AGE RECOMMENDATION: Ages 4-8. I wouldn't recommend this book for younger than 4 unless you have a child who would not be afraid of monsters since some of the pictures can look scary to the youngest ones. I would highly recommend this book for independent readers.

Christmas is certainly not the only season of the year that it will be used as "Living Christmas Every Day" brings to light the blessing we receive and give every day of the year.

But I didn't know this particular book existed until I saw it on Amazon. She truly writes from the heart. This is a great concept for a book--taking the values of Christmas and applying them to everyday living. Also recommended:Helen Steiner Rice: Ambassador of Sunshine--Helen Steiner Rice's life wasn't without trials and heartaches. But she chose to have a positive outlook--and passed it on to countless others through her writing.Christmas Gifts, Christmas Voices--a touching holiday story. Some parts are heartbreaking, but the ending leaves you with a peaceful feeling.

By Reader Views Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (9/07)This is a perfect gift book, or a book to own and keep on the bedside table year round. Although the title includes Christmas, the words of devotion are intended to keep the spirit of Christmas throughout the year. The author, Helen Steiner Rice, died in 1981; however, her devotional effort lives on. Her works are categorized into sections: Celebration, Joy, Giving, Prayer, and The Greatest Gift. I was inspired by the first narrative in the book titled "Let Us Live Christmas Every Day." The author questions: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in the world of Christmas all year long?Too often we succumb to the commercialism of the season, rather than "allow the principle attributes of Christmas - selflessness, humility, hope, love, generosity, and kindness - remain. The joyful, peaceful, and abundant heart is the one that celebrates Christmas every day." And, that's exactly what this little book helps us do. The poetry and readings are filled with incentive to truly keep the spirit of Christmas alive throughout the year.Give "Living Christmas Every Day" as a gift to yourself or someone special. It is a keeper!Received book free of charge.

Correction to Editorial Review By Aubrey Wade This book is indeed an extremely important one; a distillation of decades of study of the ancient Hermetic Arts. Mary Ann South Atwood wrote it, and her father, who taught her full-time from girlhood, had it published in London in 1850. He also owned a significant library of ageless wisdom texts, that he later gave to the newly developing Theosophist movement blossoming in London, New York and India.Far more than a simple description of "hieophants", (hierophant - teacher) this detailed and stunningly erudite tome is packed with information about the transmutation of spirit into matter and vice versa. Its historical and geographical spread are phenomenal. The funny thing is, soon after they'd had it published, she and her father had extreme misgivings about allowing out such precious wisdom. That opinion combined with a "conversion" of sorts to a radical Christianity caused them to gather up all the books they'd printed. They then burned these on their lawn. Only a few remained, enough for a complete copy to be re-released. Mine is published by Julian Press of New York, in 1960.

This is a great author and an excellllent book By Amazon Customer The woman who wrote this book lived in an age when women were virtually forbidden scholarship, and yet she wrote this extremely well researched and beautiful book on the deep philosophy of the soul. She spoke and wrote in several languages and translated all of the passages which she quotes, despite the fact that it makes me ashamed of the feebleness of my own scholarship I really value this book.

Dark Justice, by Brandilyn Collins

Review "This one is a nail-biting thrill ride from start to finish. A fascinating look at the reality of what would happen if terrorists hit our electrical grid system, this is a frighteningly true-to-life scenario. Hannah, who balances caring for a mother with dementia with everything else in her life, adds another piece to a tale with which many readers will be able to relate." -- RT Book Reviews"It's clear that Collins has mastered her craft. The book is strong in its plot, its writing, and its technical details. The story kept me glued to my chair from the first page to the last." -- P.G., Goodreads  "This book grabbed my attention IMMEDIATELY, and I was finished in about 24 hours. It called for me to put my life on hold while I followed Hannah." -- J.R., Goodreads"Oh. My. Goodness. Brandilyn Collins just about did me in with this one! Dark Justice may be her most chilling book yet, probably because the scenario is far too easy to imagine in today's world of terrorism and cyber attacks. Collins is a brilliant author." -- Mocha with Linda "This is a book about how your life can spin out of control faster than you can blink an eye. The reality of the premise of the book is so real it's very scary to imagine. I read the book in two days. The house now needs cleaned." -- Barbara, Goodreads"Just finished Dark Justice. My heart beat rapidly the entire book!!! My blood pressure was surely up. Talk about Seatbelt Suspense!!! Kept me on the edge of my seat. Could NOT put the book down and afraid to turn the page for fear of what would happen." -- B.H., Facebook  "I stayed up all night, Thursday, reading Dark Justice. Once I started, I couldn't stop. Great book!" S.J., Facebook"Hold on... here we go again!" -- Susan, Goodreads "What if terrorists decided to sabotage our power grid? The ensuing story was riveting. The details and facts felt very real and plausible. The amount of thorough research that must have gone into this book shines through." -- Fitsyzmom, Amazon reviewer "I am a big Brandilyn Collins fan and this book did not disappoint. The twists and turns of the plot kept me reading and the characters were believable. In addition to the mystery, the book highlights the trials of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer Disease." -- Avid Reader, Amazon reviewer

From the Author Dark Justice carries the brand promise of my Seatbelt Suspense® novels: fast-paced, character-driven suspense with myriad twists and an interwoven thread of faith. While this story is fictional, it is based on the terrifying reality that terrorists could target America's electrical grid. In 2011, the consulting firm Pike Research issued a report stating that security for the electrical grid was in "near chaos," giving attackers the "upper hand" since many attacks could not be prevented. The problem centered on aging infrastructures with no built-in security. And the security that was present could be bypassed by a "$60 piece of software." The shutdown of just one local grid could cause a "cascade effect," said Pike, causing an entire region to lose power. I first learned this information when I saw a CNN report of an experiment conducted in 2007 by the U.S. Department of Energy. In the experiment, a replica of a power-plant control system was hacked and damaged by remote. The generator shook and released steam, and soon went out of control. The entire video lasts about a minute. In 2010, a unique and sophisticated computer worm spread through Iran, India, and Indonesia. Named Stuxnet, the worm looked for very specific settings, then injected its own code into that system. After a few years of studying this worm, security researcher Ralph Langner concluded he was 100 percent certain Stuxnet was specifically targeted to wreak havoc in Iran's uranium-enrichment facility in Natanz. "This stuff is so bizarre," Langner told a reporter in an e-mail, "that I have to make up my mind how to explain this to the public." Later Langner said that now Stuxnet was "history," the current problem was "the next generation of malware that will follow." That was more than enough to set my imagination running. ~ Brandilyn

From the Back Cover "Suspense, emotions with family members, more suspense - just a great read. Read it in just a couple of days." -- traeand, Amazon reviewer  "As always Brandilyn Collins never disappoints! This is an extremely fast-paced page turner book. The story line is expertly drawn and the characters are so believable they almost seem real." Tracey Bateman, Amazon reviewer "The only bad thing about reading a Brandilyn Collins book is that nothing else measures up! I loved this book from beginning to end. One of Collins' best." -- Lynn M, Amazon reviewer "Once again Brandilyn Collins has taken me on a breath-gasping read! Having dealt with a dementia patient, I can tell you the situations she includes CAN happen....and what WOULD happen if you stumbled upon secrets so dark. . . You might never find justice. Incredible scenario and a great read. Loved it." -- Eileen Key, Amazon reviewer "I love a David and Goliath story and this is a great one." -- Joan N., Amazon reviewer "I could not put this book down! The plot is so well done and draws the reader in from the get-go. The tension and suspense keep readers on a tightrope, reading furiously to find out how each situation will be resolved. I really liked the realism of the relationship between Hannah and her mother." -- Lighthouse88, Amazon reviewer

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Dark Justice By Amazon Customer Have you ever made a snap decision that wound up changing everything? That is exactly what happens to Hannah Shire. The series of unfolding events began when she decided to take the scenic route home. She and her mother came upon a car accident and stopped to help just like anyone else would. Little did they know that their world, along with everyone else's, was about to be turned upside down. This book completely stressed me out! Of course when you are talking about a suspense book, being stressed out is a very good thing. The tension kept mounting with each page that was turned. With each new incident you begin to wonder just who you can trust. If you are like me you will begin to think about what you would do in the situation. Where would you go? Who are the good guys? How would you prepare for the impending doom?In the preface of the story Ms. Collins gives you the background on the idea for the story. What if terrorists decided to sabotage our power grid? What would happen? The ensuing story was riveting. The details and facts felt very real and plausible. The amount of thorough research that must have gone into this book shines through. If you are looking for a novel that will leave you anxiously pondering what if . . . pick up a copy of Dark Justice!I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. No disappointment By Paul Goble This is the first book I've read by prolific Christian "Seatbelt Suspense" author Brandilyn Collins. It's clear that Collins has mastered her craft. The book is strong in its plot, its writing, and its technical details. The plot: The story kept me glued to my chair from the first page to the last. Hannah Shire happens across an auto accident and finds herself in possession of the key to stopping a domestic terrorist plot. The terrorists frame her for murder, then come after her, knowing she can't go to the authorities. The characters: The characters immediately drew my sympathy. Hannah is smart yet vulnerable. She tries to do what is right, makes mistakes, then has to correct the mistakes. I found myself angry with her on one point: with potentially thousands of lives at stake, I felt she should have placed the good of society above the safety of her loved ones. The writing: Point of view transitions are crystal clear. A few misspellings snuck past the editor. The writing isn't what I'd call literary, but it is focused and achieves it's purpose without distraction. The issues: The story explores some serious issues, without becoming bogged down in them. What does it take to care for a parent with dementia? How does one prepare for a future that might include dementia? How vulnerable is the US electrical infrastructure to terrorists? How do cops and citizens stay alert to terrorism when they're overwhelmed by daily emergencies? How do you figure out who to trust, when you don't know who the traitors are?The technical details: Collins did a great job of not writing beyond her research. She ventured into territory I know fairly well: the embedded computer systems that control the electrical grid, and encrypted hidden (steganographic) communication. The way the digital message was hidden was quite unrealistic, but I'll forgive that because realism would have killed the plot. (Messages are best hidden in media that looks innocent, not in media that says "look at me." And the messages wouldn't be visible at all, even with really good software, unless you already knew they were present.) I applaud the attention this story brings to the vulnerability of American infrastructure.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Breathtaking, heart stopping By Dottie PC The writing is superb. Ms. Collins never disappoints. From the beginning you are hooked and it doesn't stop until the book ends. And it's amazing; there is no bad language, there are no sex scenes, and yet, it's a nonstop adventure. You will never go wrong with any of her books. They are entertaining, and you may even learn something without realizing it until later.
