About the Author
Nick Bruel is the author and illustrator of the phenomenally successful Bad Kitty series, including the 2012 and 2013 CBC Children's Choice Book Award winners Bad Kitty Meets the Baby and Bad Kitty for President. Nick has also written and illustrated popular picture books including Who Is Melvin Bubble? and Bob and Otto. Nick lives with his wife and daughter in Westchester, New York.

The copy provided to Vine reviewers originally was a promo copy that was not complete. I've since purchased the complete version of the book and it makes a world of difference. The promise that was in the promo was fulfilled in the final book. It's a cute way to teach children art concepts while drawing fun comics.Learning to draw by drawing comics comes naturally in my family. When I was a little girl, my older brother and I would try to draw the Peanuts characters from the Sunday comics. Each week, he would try to draw the whole strip (he was about four years older than me) and I would try to draw my favorite one or two cells. Later, all three of my kids enjoyed drawing their favorite comic characters. It will be fun to have this book for my grandchildren - who all love the Bad Kitty books (as we all have kitties at our houses, too, even bad ones.)I remember how much fun it was and it was a treat versus a lesson, so I really like that this book takes it a step further and gives encouragement to children to try to draw on their own.

By Teresa Robeson I've always been interested in comic books and graphic novels, and can't help but think that if I only had this awesome Bad Kitty book as a kid, I would be a famous comic book artist today! Okay, maybe I wouldn't be famous, but I would have been less afraid of trying it on my own. I also wish Nick Bruel had published this book when my kids were little (instead of being 17 and 19 year olds); they would have loved this as much as I do. This book is both fun and functional; can't say that about too many books!

But, once in a blue moon, there is book that we borrow from the library that is so impressive that I buy it to always have around and to support the author. Bad Kitty Makes Comics is just such a book. Not only is the book humorous, the author skillfully shows the reader how to make comics in such a simple yet compelling way, that when I was done reading the book with my kids, I wanted to make some comics too! My son took a Comic Book Design Camp over the summer at our local community center and he said he learned more from this book than from the week long, half-day camp.
