By John I liked the early Jack Reacher novels but this is just a knockoff of the original series, even in Lee Child approved of it. Here we have a clone of Jack Reacher, even though he never met him; he just instinctively acts just like his father, even down to deciding to always take a left turn when in doubt. The strength of Jack Reacher's character is his experience as an MP, traveling the world from his childhood and developing into the man he is now. Cameron is 18, and we are supposed to believe that he developed the same way following his mom around to crime scenes.Jack comes across as experienced, Cameron just comes across as arrogant. He tells us over and over again how big he is, calling himself a giant repeatedly. He makes threats to grown men, cops, groups of guys, as though he had ever done more than get in some fights in school. At one point he sleeps in a cell and says he has slept in worse. And I'm like, "When?" High School detention? The worst part was how sloooooow it is in the beginning. My Kindle said I was 33% done with the book before any real action started or the real plot began. The first 1/3 of the book was generic backstory (dad is gone, mom told me on her deathbed to go and find him; like a dying mom would tell her 18 year old son to spend his life wandering the continental US) and overwritten narrative including each bottle of water he drank and what he ate at the gas station. This is not Jack Reacher. It is a writer making a buck off another man's imagination.

We meet the mother that raised this son all on her own, but she's dying from advanced stages of cancer. Reacher learns that his mother has planned for the future and knows that her son will be free to start a quest to find the father he never knew or may not still be alive. This book is the start of that adventure. Like Jack Reacher, the son has the same driven values, protect the innocent, destroy those who are attempting to do harm to the innocents. Get ready for a great experience and the action of Reacher. Thanks for another great read.

By book reader If your a fan of Jack Reacher and, like me, get frustrated during the "down time" between books, then this is the series for you. Scott Blade truly captures the tone set by Lee Child with this character. I like the way he tied it in with the Reacher series, and the reader can really believe that this is the son of Jack Reacher. As in other series being written using ancillary characters from the Reacher books (which I have not read, by the way), Jack Reacher is NOT in this book; however, as stated above, one can truly envision this being in the same "world" as Reacher. I'm not sure if those other series captures that feeling or not. I've already purchased the second book in the sereis and plan on obtaining the third. Hopefully these book (and those that follow) will maintain the same quality as the first book and the integrity of the character. The ONLY reason I didn't give this book the full 5-star rating is that I felt the the character was just a little too mature for an 18-year old who grew up in a small southern town. Mr. Blade does show how he may have gotten this way (Reacher blood in his veins, his mother being a no-nonsense sheriff giving him life skills used by those in the criminal justice world, etc... .); but still, he is only 18 and certain levels of maturity/self-confidence comes with life experience that goes beyond training. The only example I saw of his possible "immaturity" was the effect one female character in the book had on him. However, other than that, this book was almost literally like reading a Lee Child "Jack Reacher" book. I know it may never happen (due to legal/copyright issues), and I wouldn't want it to happen for a long while anyway (to maintain the separate series), but it would be nice to envision the two Reachers eventually meeting each other somewhere down the line. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story, and DEFINITELY to all Jack Reacher fans.

Every time I thought that this book could not get any better, it did.Other books of the spiritual journey are usually written in the first person, often a solitary voice such as Hank Wesselman's glorious Spiritwalker trilogy, or as the student one on one with the teacher.By using the 3rd person, Ayani manages to give differing spiritual backgrounds and voices to the men of the Brotherhood as well as the heroine, Leah, and show them working energetically as a collective. (While introduced early on, the other women of the Sisterhood form more of a Dreamers Guild to hold spiritual space and have little other role.)I found the 5th Dimensional work described to be especially resonate.

This is an interesting story with a good plot. Jessie is emotionally involved with her characters and is ovbiously personally invested in this tale, almost as if it is the telling of her own life story written as fiction. I will read her next book.

Sweet Victory: A Romantic Comedy (The Dartmouth Diaries Book 2), by Beverley Watts

About the Author Beverley and her husband divide their time between a large flat overlooking the sea on the beautiful English Riviera (where it's generally warm and wet) and an officer's cabin on the west coast of Scotland (where it's cold and wet). Between them they have 3 children (2 grown up) and a menagerie of animals including 2 dogs (an Irish terrier called Nelson, plus a neurotic 'Chorkie' named Pepé) and two cats called Dillon and Honey. Beverley spent 8 years teaching English as a Foreign Language to International Military Students in Britannia Royal Naval College which is the premier officer training establishment for the Royal Navy in the UK. She says that in the whole 8 years there was never a dull moment and many of her wonderful experiences at the College were not only memorable but were most definitely 'the stuff of fiction' An avid reader and writer since childhood, she always determined that on leaving she would write a book... Beverley is currently writing a series of romantic comedies entitled The Dartmouth Diaries. Claiming Victory - Book One, and Sweet Victory - Book Two, are already available on Amazon. Book Three - All For Victory, is planned for publication sometime in the autumn of 2015.

By Harveian Like the first book in the series, this light-hearted romp continues the unlikely story of Victory’s love life with a famous Hollywood superstar. This time problems arise when her father—a retired Naval officer—gets into the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Victory fears the adverse publicity will affect her lover’s career and goes into hiding with her father, breaking off her relationship. As a mere male, I found this aspect of the story rather hard to imagine, and couldn’t raise much sympathy for the troubles she had brought on herself. She recovers, of course, and after further amusing adventures sets the scene for a third book in the series. The gem of this particular book is the Admiral’s tale. He and his cronies are wonderful characters and his colourful language and expletives are hilarious. Even if you have difficulties coping with Victory’s behaviour, this book is worth reading for the naval story alone—I wish I had his vocabulary!

¸✶.•´ #RUDE is a stand-alone steamy romance novel ¸.•*´✶ Sexy twin brothers. One owns her heart, the other makes her burn. Would it be rude to keep them both? Liam walked into my world and turned it upside down with his lickable abs, bedroom eyes, and alpha male persona. He was sin personified and I wanted him to damn my soul. Everything about him drew me in, daring me to step outside my comfort zone and forget all the rules I'd made to keep my heart safe. He was rude, vulgar, and promised everything a good girl dreams about doing with a bad boy. As if his temptation wasn't enough, his twin brother was thrown into the mix. Luke was Liam's polar opposite in every way, except for his panty-melting looks. Charming, respectful, and a man you wouldn't mind taking home to meet the parents. There couldn't be a more perfect man. Put the two of them together and it was a combination no woman couldn't resist. I've never considered myself a prude, even though I was holding out for marriage. How could I walk away from a night that fantasies were made of? Liam told me that great sex was never boring. It was dirty, passionate and always a little rude. All I had to do was say yes. Two sexy twin brothers promising one hot night of unadulterated sex. Would it be #Rude to turn it down?

However, I step out of my comfort zone and was hit with RUDENESS!!Sarah Elizabeth hit the hottie jackpot with Luke and Liam Devonshire. This is a sexual duo of kindness and arrogance in one packaged deal. Brothers that stick together, please together. Is sweet innocent v-card carrying Sarah Elizabeth ready for their rudeness??Pretty sure the raw sexual content will caused more than a few panty changes before the end of this one.Amazing book! Liam and Luke are every girl's fantasy and Sarah Elizabeth got to live hers. What's a girl to do when two smoking hot brothers want you? Give them what they want of course! Their relationship is unconventional at best and maybe not what people think of as a real relationship but who is anyone to judge what works for them. You'd be crazy not to explore the hotness of Luke and Liam and take advantage of what they have to offer. Luke is the sweetheart and Liam could be a ass but he has his reasons combined with Sarah Elizabeth a virgin and you will be blown away with everything that the twins have to offer. Going into reading this book I was expecting lots of naughty, taboo sex and yes the book has that but it is so much more. The anticipation of what was going to happen was like no other and I couldn't wait to see the direction that Michelle was going to take the story. I was completely thrown for a loop and didn't expect the book to end the way it did but I am happy because even if you don't agree with the story in the beginning by the end of the book your opinion will change and you will be glad that you met the twins and read their story. You will be pulled in and agree that it ended in the only way it could and should of. I absolutely loved this book! I will tell everyone who is thinking about reading this book to have a open mind and dive in! You won't regret it! Congrats Michelle! You took a taboo subject and did it justice!

Alzheimer’s disease was first written about over a century ago in 1910. It is the most common type of dementia, being a progressive and irreversible disease of the brain, characterised by loss of intellectual function, chronic memory loss, language deterioration and personality change, and affects over 35,000 people in Ireland today. Alzheimer’s is big business in terms of healthcare costs. It is also tragic. About 1% of people under 65 years old are affected. This rises to 25% for those over 80 years old. Although more commonly associated with older age, it can also occur in people in their 40s and 50s. In her first book, Catherine Frayne, from the west of Ireland, engages in a warm and deeply personal response to her mother’s diagnosis and progression of the illness. Her desperate wish to improve her mother’s life led her to innovative research in the United States. Ultimately, the introduction of something in her diet - just one thing - that is truly remarkable and has dramatically changed her mother’s day-to-day health. A cure for Alzheimer’s? No. But Catherine’s experiences with her mother are certainly something worth sitting up and taking notice of if you have someone in your life that suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and want to turn back the clock a little. Thoughts of Yesterday is a page turner that might just change your life and that of a loved one’s.

About the Author The author grew up in the West of Ireland and has had an insatiable ambition to write for as long as she can remember. She wrote short stories as a teenager and always kept a diary. This, her first novel, is biographical in nature, and she has on-going plans to continue with her desire to capture and entertain readers in her own inimitable, humorous way. The idiosyncrasies and whims of the human race continue to animate and energise her and she likes nothing more than to represent them with her own brand of wit and fun

Newport MD I thoroughly enjoyed reading this very heartwarming book, Thoughts of Yesterday by Catherine Frayne. Once I began reading it I could not stop. In this lovely biography of her mother, Catherine Frayne colorfully captures the essence of Alzheimer’s, both the progression of the disease over time, as well as the minute to minute nightmare the afflicted person and their loved ones endure to the point of utter exhaustion day after day. The endless repetition, anxiety, and inexplicable behaviors that come along with the severe short term memory loss that this disease bestows upon its victims is captured in great detail in the stories of Catherine’s daytrip misadventures with her Mammy. Like my own husband, Mammy has had a profound response to coconut oil, which is rich in medium chain triglycerides that are converted to ketones, an alternative fuel for the brain. In recent years researchers have learned that Alzheimer’s is a type of diabetes of the brain, in which insulin deficiency and insulin resistance have developed in certain areas of the brain and spread until it is widespread and severe throughout the brain. What this means is that glucose, the preferred fuel for the brain, does not effectively enter brain cells and they malfunction and eventually die over time. Ketones can bypass this defect in the brain cells and potentially keep them alive and functioning.Catherine’s great love and respect for her mother and her desire to help others experience this same happy turn of events has resulted in this beautifully written biography. It is a pleasure to get to know Mammy and her loving family. This story brought tears of sadness to my eyes as I related to her mother’s decline followed by tears of joy as she emerged from the grip of the disease. I am quite certain that Catherine Frayne’s book will bring the message of the power of medium chain triglycerides and ketones to very many more people who are dealing with this disease and help them find similar meaningful improvement in their quality of life. I can say from personal experience, there is nothing more precious than the extra time we have been given when our loved ones wake up and become ours once again, for however long that lasts. Thank you, Catherine, for sharing this beautiful story with us.

In this inspiring young adult memoir that includes color photos, he tells how he achieved such great heights. On May 22, 2010, at the age of thirteen, American teenager Jordan Romero became the youngest person to climb to the summit of Mount Everest. At fifteen, he became the youngest person to reach the summits of the tallest mountains on each of the seven continents. In this energizing memoir for young adults, Jordan, recounts his experience, which started as a spark of an idea at the age of nine and, many years of training and hard work later, turned into a dream come true.“The emotional pitch of the story remains high as Romero contends with extreme weather, frustration, exhaustion, and homesickness to reach, with almost palpable exhilaration, each peak” (Publishers Weekly).

No Summit out of Sight: The True Story of the Youngest Person to Climb the Seven Summits, by Jordan Romero

From School Library Journal Gr 6 Up—At the age of 15, Romero became the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits, the tallest mountain on each continent. He set this goal for himself at age nine, when he saw a mural on the wall of his elementary school and wondered what it would be like to stand on each of those peaks. Other parents might postpone such lofty aspirations, but Jordan's father and stepmother, extreme adventure racers who compete all over the world, encouraged him. Neighbors, friends, and corporations helped with sponsorships and fund-raisers, while Romero's parents trained and accompanied him. From their first climb, Mount Kilimanjaro, where he set the record as a 10-year-old, to Everest at a record-setting 13, each peak presented unique and more difficult challenges. LeBlanc has written about mountaineering and of Everest, but Romero's voice comes through, as he excitedly describes, in first-person narrative, his emotions, hardships, occasional doubts, and reactions to foreign countries and cultures. It takes a certain amount of self-confidence to attempt and to persevere in the face of such an overwhelming task, and it is obvious that Romero has the bravado to do what many critics told him he couldn't. He continues to inspire young people to lead healthier lives and to follow their dreams with his 50-state "Find Your Everest tour," speaking about the importance of spending time outdoors, as well as climbing the highest peak in each state. Although the length of the book may be intimidating, it is an easy read and will appeal to adventure seekers.—MaryAnn Karre, West Middle School, Binghamton, NY

No Summit Out of Sight is no exception. It is well written and entertaining. I know the seven (eight) summits have to be very different but, when I first picked up the book, I was afraid they would all seem the same to someone like me who knows next to nothing about mountains.. Not at all. Jordan and Linda have given "personalities" to every mountain. The thing that really amazed me was how almost effortless their goal seemed to be. For instance, I've read about so many people trying to summit Everest and having to give up and try again because of one reason or another. They had hardships of course (like the avalanche) and doubts that could have aborted their goal, but, they worked through all that. This is mentioned in particular near the end of the book. One thing about the book I didn't like was how fast they came down from Everest. OK, so maybe it was totally uneventful, but, after having said his Dad's hand was frozen and wondering how he'd negotiate the ladder, well, I wondered how he did, but it wasn't mentioned. One paragraph gets them from Camp 1, to Camp 2, to Camp 3. Surely Jordan had thoughts (and needed to concentrate) coming down. How did they manage with how exhausted they were?Overall, this is a wonderful book. Makes me wonder how I'd do on Everest! (This from someone in Virginia who almost hides under the bed at the first snowflake!) Cold and snow are not my thing. But, I loved my vicarious adventure with Jordan. It is a very inspiring book and I hope many young people will read it.

By Penmore Jordan Romero was fascinated by a poster in his elementary school of the Seven Summits, the highest mountain peaks on each of the seven continents. When he was nine years old, he announced to his parents that he wanted to climb the Seven Summits and he wanted to start training immediately. Jordan was familiar with what training involved; his father and stepmother were adventure racers. They traveled the world racing by foot, bike, canoe, kayak and even camel! After much discussion and consideration, his parents eventually gave their stamp of approval. On July 22, 2006 Jordan ascended his first summit - Mount Kilimanjaro at an elevation of 19,341 feet. He was ten years old and laid claim to a world record as the youngest documented climber to make the summit. He was thirteen years old on May 22, 2010 when he made the summit of Mt. Everest at 29,029 feet . This was also a world record. On December 24, 2011 at the age of fifteen, Jordan Romero became the youngest person ever to successfully climb the Seven Summits. This is his story. What a motivational read! I will have to think twice next time I don't want to crawl out of bed at 6:30am to take a nice warm shower and then hop in my car to drive to my heated/air conditioned job. Jordan climbed out of tents at 18,000 feet to face gale force winds and temperatures of 40 degrees below zero. He hiked through two feet of new snow in whiteout conditions. He has experienced an avalanche first hand, tossed and turned and holding on to life by one single rope that he fervently hoped wouldn't break. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about his adventures, frustrations and joys as he relentlessly strove toward his goal. If you like true adventure stories, then give this book a try!

I will also recommend it to our English department for a class read By Mary Rokhvadze I am a K-12 public school librarian in a rural area of NYS and am constantly reading YA literature. This book is on the top of my list to share with students come this fall. I will also recommend it to our English department for a class read. Like many readers, I find personal accounts of those who climb our planet's extreme mountains to be alluring. However, this book goes so much further in exploring the self-motivation and power of the human spirit to endure and triumph. Many tears dropped on the pages of this (library!) book as I found myself really getting to know this kid (!). Not only does he share the intricacies of each climb, he shares his self-discovery and reveals the layers he works through to become a man. Each of us has the potential to "do something" and Jordan's story is so, so inspirational. If you have a young person in your life, this is a book worth recommending or purchasing for them. Thank you, Mr. Romero, for sharing it with the world.

Up until now, straitlaced Simon Kirkendale has done an admirable job of keeping his high society mother’s demands for grandbabies at bay, but lately she’s kicked things into high gear. So he isn’t too disappointed to delay her latest matchmaking attempt when a pretty stranger hops into the backseat of his car en route to one of his mother’s dinner parties and tells him to drive. A car-jacking? Nope. More like a bird on the run, but this particular bird happens to be a parrot who has slipped its cage, and Simon’s new acquaintance desperately needs to get it back before she loses sight of it altogether. Ever the nice guy—and okay, maybe also a little intrigued by the colorful Miss Juleen Pruitt’s sudden appearance in his car—Simon hits the gas pedal and obliges only to find himself unwittingly dragged into a wild goose chase around town for a bird who seems to be determined to either get itself killed or the two people trying to catch it. Simon’s money is on the latter. But it turns out that a little disruption and chaos in his life might just be what Simon needs most—especially if it comes in the form of Juleen. If he can just manage to survive meeting her…

A short contemporary that leaves the reader smiling after providing fun, quirkiness, and excitement, not to mention the romance! I found myself laughing at certain scenes between the main characters, Simon and Juleen, as the author tells of their escapades in trying to capture Juleen’s grandfather’s parrot, Frankie! This fast-paced, light-hearted story is extremely refreshing and original. The reader will love the unpredictable run of events as Simon and Juleen try to chase down Frankie in Simon’s car after Juleen jumps in and asks unknown Simon to put his foot down, and then later on foot as they race through a park after a bird in flight. It is due to Simon’s chivalry and good-mannered upbringing that he goes along with Juleen and tries to help once he finds out the exact true nature of her ‘carjacking’. Only, after being bored with his mother’s vision of what his future bride should be like, he becomes fascinated with Juleen, and her quirkiness. After all, she is interesting and has some energy about her that is different.Juleen is the chaos in the ever-so-organised life of Simon. His routine leans on the tedious side of the fence, whilst Juleen appears wild and free spirited. Opposites attract in this exciting, little read. And Simon can’t help but be drawn to her. However, in the back of his mind he knows that his mother is expecting him to turn up for dinner and hoping to entertain a blind date with a woman of her choosing. His good manners and courtesy, not to mention the guilt trip his mother plays on him, all add up and make him feel obliged to meet this latest blind date. Will he be amazed and fall for his date, or is Juleen still playing on his mind?If you’re looking for an uplifting, laugh-out-loud fast read Winging It is definitely for you! It really stands out from many other rom-com reads in a very punchy and vibrant way. And, it will leave you wanting more!An ARC copy was provided by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Simon and Juleen have a very unique "meet cute" and it seems like one thing happens after another. Simon is a very good sport. Even though this is a shorter story, it didn't feel rushed or incomplete. It was just an enjoyable escape. I was going to read a chapter before bed, but got sucked in and couldn't put it down.I am such a fan of Christine's books and can't wait to see what she comes up with next. This is perfect if you're looking for a lighthearted opposites-attract story.ContentRomance: Squeaky cleanLanguage: NoneViolence: NoneReligious: None

Feldman is honestly the cutest and funniest book I have read this year. I can't remember how many times I laughed out loud or smiled like crazy with it.I really liked the main character, Simon Kirkendale from the start and the story pretty much starts with a woman named Juleen jumping into his car and telling him to drive to chase Franky, her grandfather's parrot, that she lost. This was already so funny because I hadn't really expected this to happen. To say Simon was startled is an understatement but he goes along with it anyway. The rest of the story continues with trying to catch Frankie, which is very entertaining to say the least, from jumping into a pond to getting set on fire. I also loved how Simon found out how a bit of absurdity is not a bad thing, especially where Juleen is concerned because she's not an average woman. And I can't point out enough how much I loved the humor in this book. I don't read a lot of romantic comedy books but is they're all like this I might have to read more.Usually with short novellas like this I find that there's not enough room for me to really get to know the character or have a connection to them or the story but this is definitely not the case with this story. It was very engaging and of course funny as hell. Not quite a five-star read but I would absolutely recommend this to anyone, especially if you're looking for a hilarious story that's well-written and entertaining.
