I buy books from "Diary" because I know that this author provides consistent, quality work. I know that love, care, and time goes into each one of these. Not a single book I have read from this author has been neglected or rushed. I know that I can feel proud when I buy this for my nephew because I am not the only one who can tell a difference in the quality between the majority of books out there and books from this author. My nephew's face lights up every time I tell him this author has released a new book. To me that is worth much more than the meager $2.99 I shelled out for this book, it is priceless.

"Word Magic" By Pop Bop This book is a weird, entertaining and rewarding combination of what initially appear to be childish stick drawings, challenging vocabulary, cheerful wordplay and shaggy dog, (literally) adventures - and I gather that's exactly how the author and his loyal little readers want it.The drawing is intentionally amateurish; the dogs are stick figures. Except there's more going on here than you might imagine, and the author manages to fit a fair amount of expression and personality into the drawings. You get a sort of "less is more" vibe, and the young reader is drawn into paying more attention to the writing. That said, the simple drawings clearly illustrate what's being related in the text and so end up being amusing and helpful. Let's hear it for stick drawings.The vocabulary is at the level at which one dog doesn't speak to another, he "addresses" him. That's not outlandish, but it represents a general step up in the level of sophistication in the writing. The overall effect is that this is a book that encourages a young reader, ever so gently, to step up his or her game in terms of reading confidence and ability. Pretty nice for a stick figure dog story.There is word play and a great deal of clever conversation. At one point there is an argument that Stick Dog wins with a crafty logical/verbal trick. The loser of the argument accuses Stick Dog of using "word magic" and that phrase struck in my mind. There is a lot of word magic here. But, there's also just a lot of silly, engaging dog stuff. It's hot and we want to cool down. The dogs tease each other, compliment each other, play with each other. They have adventures, meet other animals, and explore things. There are set pieces, like the dogs exploring a water sprinkler and the gang following an ice cream truck to lick up spills, but a lot of the action just involves Stick Dog's bemused management of this gang of knuckleheads.The upshot is that the book is funny, calm and welcoming. It is sneaky in that it has charms that are not immediately evident, but that become clear as you read it. It's sort of like a stray dog that works its way into your home, (like Stick Dog himself). How cool is that.Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book in exchange for a candid review. In this installment, Stick Dog and his pals are very thirsty and don’t know what to do. Whilst dreaming about water, they happen to hear an ice cream truck. At first they don’t know what this fiendish thing is, especially since it was making such a racket, but they soon figured out it had something to do with the delicious puddles that fell beneath the kids’ ice cream cones. Although they love the taste of what they lap off the ground, they can’t figure out exactly how to get more of the ice cream.One idea to get at the ice cream was for all the dogs to jump up on top the ice cream truck and to begin dancing. Stripes explains how their scheme would work: “The driver will hear our paws banging away above him and wonder what in the world is going on. He’ll park and get out and see this great dance party. Then he'll think, ‘Hey I've never danced on top of a truck before! That looks like fun!’ So he'll climb up and start dancing too. He'll be so busy dancing and screaming and stuff that will be able to jump off the truck and get all the ice cream we want while he's still on top.“Well, this creative idea is rejected, and the group brainstorms other ideas. Stick Dog finally concludes that he will jump into the ice cream truck somehow. Of course, the plan did not go exactly as he envisioned, but it all worked out okay in the end.The illustrations in Stick Dog are absolutely wonderful. My favorite is the one imagining everyone on top of the ice cream truck, dancing, and hoping this would somehow lead them to free ice cream. I also loved the art showing the five pals hiding behind mailboxes, as though they would be invisible there.All in all, STICK DOG DREAMS OF ICE CREAM is a wonderful story, fun for adults as well as for kids. I really enjoyed reading this book and seeing the simple, but cute illustrations. Highly recommend!Advance copy for impartial review.

Woodmansee This is our third Stick Dog book. We started with an advanced reader copy of the first book and since then my twin 8 year old daughters have waited tooth and nail for each subsequent book. I ordered this so it would arrive the day it was released and the arguing and fighting about who got to read it first ensued and tears were involved, that's how badly each wanted to read it. The more voracious reader between the two got it first and blew through it pretty quickly. Her sister read it the same day. Both loved it, laughed out loud the whole time, and both twins have re-read it several times since. Both want to keep this book as a part of our permanent library and will not let me donate this book away. Definitely would recommend this super duper humorous and addicting-to-an-8-year-old book. Careful though, it will leave your kids wanting ice cream, wanting something sweet to eat :)

James Patterson doesn't actually write his books, he writes part of it or simply creates an idea and passes it off. Normally I don't care, but this book had a clear line where it sounded like another author stepped in. The whole tone of the book changed as well as the level of violence and gun references. Very odd to read, it was like a grade school project where the teacher hands you a partially written story and asks you to finish it. I wouldn't recommend it for little kids (less than 10) since there is violence and implied death, especially of the parents. The geography portion is educational, but in the copy I had the map of the US was drawn wrong. Not sure if that made it to the final copies.

By Helpful Advice "Treasure Hunters" by James Patterson is an illustrated book that is most suitable for pre-teens although some teenagers could alsolove it due to its adventurous plot and interesting characters.The book's main characters are four Kidds children, twins Bick and Beck, Tommy and Storm that are quite different by their appearance, but also by their character.They all grown travelling the world with their parents treasure hunters who are seeking for the submerged valuables with their ship named Lost.After their parents will disappear due to the sea storm, they will start their own adventure that will bring them to Cayman Islands and further seeking for the great treasure but also trying to find the truth what happened to their parents and are they still alive.On their way there will be numerous obstacles, like pirates they will encounter and rivals who are looking for the same treasure, therefore their success won't be easy to achieve...The author made a bit unusual combination of story book and regular novel both using text and lot of illustrations resulting in a work that obviously intend to help kids in their transition from reading picture books to reading books.Although it's always difficult to judge some work that is intended for completely different audience, this book will be probably popular as other Patterson's books, although it's bit too long and its plot isn't so realistic like it's expected from literature intended for audience older than pre-teens.Most of its shortcomings are evident in the lack of characterization, and regardless of the length of the book the reader gets little information about the background of each character making them a little flat, a lot more like a cartoon comics heroes than book characters.But, due to its paced adventurous plot, exciting story that involves seeking treasures and escaping from pirates, together with nicely drawn illustrations, I'm sure that kids will have fun and enjoy it.Due to that, with all the above limitations, this book can be recommended to the younger population that will more enjoy in provided entertainment book offered than think about its literary quality.

There were three other editions put out in 2007 ("the Revised and Expanded Edition"), 2009 ("the Revised Edition"), and 2011 ("the Final Edit"). With new information, and better ways of organizing the material, it was important to me to continue to revise my initial efforts into something I could be confident with. I think I'm at a good resting place to let the book make it on its own now.I usually recommend this title for married couples and "Conflict Resolution for Couples - 'Just the Tools' edition" (green book) for singles. Additionally, "The Top 10 Marriage Essentials" is a great companion title to this, the blue book.

About the Author Paul Shaffer has a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina. He has worked with adults, couples, families, and children as a professional counselor for over 30 years, both in the private and public sectors, including the hospital, jail, residential treatment and county mental health populations. It was primarily through Paul's private practice and support group work that he was able to focus on couples in conflict, a choice that ultimately led to the writing of this book. We felt there had to be a better way to handle stress & conflict without so much angst. True! We have tools & healthier perspective. Jim spells out in detail what's wrong with the entire health care industry. One at a time, he takes on specialty doctors, hospitals, insurers, drug manufacturers, Medicare. He lays out not only where we are now, but how we got here, going all the way back to Asklepios. And how our system compares with other countries, good and bad. He has chapter after chapter of heart-wrenching anecdotes, backed up by exhaustive statistical data.And even though it's a ton of bad news, it is never bitter. This is not a complaint, but a call to action.And it's not just a dry treatise. It is a novel, with good guys and bad guys and plenty of sexual drama, and Dante's Commedia Divina is woven into every chapter.This book is a blast. It's a magnum opus. It has the potential to be a real catalyst for change. Hats off to Dr. Bailey!

By robert webb Although sometimes distressing, this is worthwhile reading.Distressing: because Dr. Bailey has amassed a mountain of evidence showing how sick our healthcare system really is. Written as a novel, through the eyes of a naive physician-in-training, he dissects the body of our diseased system, displaying all the pathology caused by the major vested interests; explaining why many people don't receive even minimal care despite the US having the most expensive system in the world.Some will not want to hear that Big Pharma, Insurance, Diagnostics, and Hospitals appear to be driven more by business and profit models than by one which would truly improve the health of the communities. Hopefully, every reader should be able to conclude that we have a dysfunctional system; and use the distressing evidence presented, to help fix it. And, he does leave us with that glimmer of hope: that medical professionals in particular will wake up and lead us out of a "healthcare hell" .

His characters display the cost of our system has on those in need of care and on those giving it. The End of Healing is a terrific guide through the mire that is the modern medical industry. The reader follows three insiders in a tale of love, passion, and search for healing as they "follow the money" and uncover hidden secrets which may surprise you.

Jacob did a great job in this paranormal suspense novel that is very entertaining, exciting, and Hot!! Mason and his family of warlocks are threatened by an unknown darkness who is out to kill them, especially Mason. Mason has met a human who has changed his world which has helped him tap into his hidden powers. Drake, even though he is human, is different, and the covens are bewildered about what to do about him. The story is strong and flows and the character development is amazing, with each individual character having a significant part in the story. We are going to see alot of these 3 Warlock brothers, the Warlock father, and Drake. Excited to read the next sequel to this series. Have a feeling it is going to get really exciting and even Hotter along the way. This story is totally different from the past stories Jacob has given us. Another side of him that is interesting and exciting. Highy recommend this!! If you like the paranormal, suspense, action, and Hot MM Sex and Love, you will love this.... Don't miss this series.

It is a good read and will hold your interest. It appears that only the first two books in the series are available currently. I look forward to reading more when they become available.

By kirstyv Jacob Z Flores is an author whose name has been on my wish-list for a while now, which is why I jumped at the chance to review Spell-Bound.The novel has a combination of romance, danger, mystery, suspense, magic and that hint of sex; meaning that though it is primarily written for a Young Adult audience, it also easily crosses-over.From the book’s title and the series’ name we know that Spell-Bound is centred on a magical family – but the Blackmoors are more like the Malfoys than the Potters. Jacob Z Flores is careful to define the differences between witch, wizard and warlock, the varying types of magic each possesses and the prejudice this causes,‘ “How can gray magic remain neutral if it is constantly influenced by white or black? How could white magic promote spiritual connections if tainted by the selfish nature of our ways. For that matter, how would our black magic fare if we didn’t focus on our individual wants or needs? In order for us to remain stable, and for this world to persist, we have to exist as we are.” ‘Mason is considered to be deficient in the eyes of his brothers and father because he is unable to control his magic. Yet this also means that Mason is one of the most likeable characters in the novel. He has none of the arrogance of his brother Pierce or the piousness of Thad. Mason proves that he is thoughtful, genuine and loyal, despite being part of one of the most powerful black magic families.In contrast to the evil which threatens Havenbridge, Jacob Z Flores gives us Drake and Mason’s relationship which though intense, also has a sense of innocence with both young men agreeing to proceed slowly although Mason is certain of one thing,“Whatever existed between us went deeper than just wanting to jump each other’s bones. It was almost magical, as if from the moment we met, Drake and I had been spell-bound.”I loved everything about this story, particularly the fact that at no point does the plot slow down or weaken. Spell-Bound is already listed as one of my favourite books of 2015 and I know that Jacob Z Flores is an author I will read more of very soon.I received this as a complimentary copy, in exchange for an honest review.

Unlike most coloring books this Inside Out coloring book has WHITE pages!! BUT the paper isn't thick & if you use markers it will probably run onto the next page. The coloring pencil is also a little bigger than a typical coloring pencil. Also, this book has most of the pages from the other Inside Out coloring book "Joy's in charge". I have included a picture from this book & a comparison of the rainbow pencil to a regular Crayola coloring pencil.

I have always been a fan of Disney and Pixar. Inside Out is no exception. As a person with mental illness I find art to be very therapeutic. (I have a fine art degree and also draw and paint.) My doctor and therapist recommend that I create art often.This book is great. The subject matter is very relatable, especially for mental health awareness. Although it is a kids book, it will appeal to adult colorists for many reasons. Both the adults and children at the local community theater love this book. When they behave backstage I reward them with a coloring page of their favorite character.
