The house and the relations By wogan The main subject of `The Family Beach House' is of course the house; much is told of how valuable this large residence is, and the family is almost described; except that there are only 2 members that really have any depth and feelings shown. One is Tilda who is a recent widow. Most of her thoughts are the rage and grief of one who has lost a loved husband. They overwhelm her story as she searches for a sign that she can go forward with her life, most of the pages concerning her, are the obsessing feelings of her `aloneness`. The other family member that has some thoughts described is the sister Hannah who has married her love, Susan and cannot make up her mind to have children with her.All the family talk about their father who has found a new love ten years after his wife's death. The lack of discernment in so many of the characters is strange; the father, his new fiancée, the oldest brother Adam who is the greedy' villain' never reveals any personal thought. The younger brother Craig who wanders who knows where and does who knows what, just seems to be at hand. There is really almost nothing to his tale. The dead mother, who evidently only paid attention to two of her children and whose memorial service they are all gathered for is also lacking in a narrative. They all are a hollow mystery.It could have been a much more fascinating book with some exploration of more of the other characters; instead of page after page of Tilda's frustrations of being alone again. The question of what will happen to the house is answered in the last 50 pages which finally creates more interest and adds a bit of intensity to the family. They just never seem to come alive. There are no descriptions of inner mind-sets except for Tilda and Hannah. It just leaves one wondering how much more absorbing the book would have been had there been some access into the whole family.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Tedious, tedious, tedious By Amazon Customer I've never read a Holly Chamberlain book before, and I don't think I'll ever pick one up again. The characters are paper thin, undeveloped, and unlikeable. Maybe I missed something, but why were they having a memorial service for someone who died ten years earlier? I'm glad I got my copy from the library.

The characters are not developed well; the reader never feels any emotion other than boredom, especially at Tilda's constant whining. Also, Chamberlain attempts to show her knowledge of literature, but she does it very awkwardly by just sticking it in wherever she can. Someone (either the author or the editors) needs to learn how to use and spell words correctly. I felt like I needed a red pen for the usage and grammar errors thoughout the book. Don't waste your time or money unless you are a Chamberlain fan. My copy is already in the trash.

Whether single, courting, engaged, married, widowed, divorced, and contemplating whether you are called to be married! This book has truly opened my eyes to see the truth about "The One". This book isn't your typical "I want to find me a man. How do I get him" book. This book is for the women who desire to HONOR God in holiness, righteousness,& purity in their heart, in their lives, & in their relationship. It amazes me how so many of the questions we as women face were answered in this book. She gave different testimonies, scriptures, points of view, scenarios, and even heart-wrenching questions. Now, if you are getting this book because you are trying to see if it is going to pat you on the back and make you feel good, trust me, you may not get it. You may get your answer and you may not. Written By The Holy Spirit, Penned by Karolyne Roberts By Ayanna (@NORingNOSheets) I've always known Karolyne Roberts to be a woman of God and to have God's Holy Spirit dwelling within her. After reading this book, it was only a solid confirmation of what was already evident: that she hears from The Lord and she writes when He prompts her to. This book was written for me, married women, single men, the widowed, all people. Her release came at a time in my life in which God was shifting and doing a whole lot of revealing. "The One" Revealed aided me in this huge change in my life, as well as comforted, encouraged, sharpened and equipped me to keep pressing forward despite the changes one may experience in God's plan for their life. Each chapter is filled with God's love, grace, correction and discipline and is literally the best book I've ever read in...awhile. Pray before purchasing and put on some steel-toed boots. You'll need them. Devour each page with an open heart, prepare to be challenged and then go purchase a copy for a friend. It's literally that amazing!

By KCR94 "The One Revealed" deserves more than 5 stars, because it has made an eternal impact on myself and other women, which is what truly matters. I was blown away by Karolyne's book. No matter what season you are in - whether you are single, dating/courting, married, divorced, widowed, searching, dissatisfied, confused, content... this book has the wisdom, encouragement and insight you need at this moment in your life. Karolyne's book doesn't focus so much on asking God for your "Boaz" but seeking God's kingdom and righteousness while believing that all that is in the will of God shall be added to you in His timing. I have so much clarity as to how I should be led by the Holy Spirit and not by my feelings when it comes to relationships. Seriously, every woman should pick this book up and read it if you are looking for answers to questions about God, love, dating, marriage, and the like. As you read this book, you will come to find that it echoes a powerful truth: Jesus is the One, our One and only. It is only through Him that you will know how to date, marry and love the one he has chosen to join you in marriage. Whether it is in His will for you to marry or not, we must be devoted to seeking the One daily and becoming "the one" that we are waiting for, which Karolyne highlights so eloquently in this book. He was completely amazed with it as i have told him the story several times aloud as best i could remember. It does at points become a little to harsh for young ones but it is easily ad-libbed over by the reader, that is if your little one is not reading for them selves. For instance the tin man chops the heads off wolves and the scarecrow twists the heads of crows and breaks their necks. However the pictures are great and nothing in them i had to sensor. it was the most worded book i have ever attempted to read my son and i was worried at first but he loved and ask to read it again every night. by far more words than pictures

So the scarecrow convinces Dorothy to find the Wizard of Oz so she can go home. The scarecrow, tin man, and lion had wishes too, like the scarecrow wanted a brain, the tin man wanted a heart, and the lion wanted courage. They all go on this long journey. I will not tell you more. You will have to find out for yourself.My 3 favorite parts are when Dorothy goes home because I would like to go home too. Also when the witch died because she was like “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I’m melting!” It was so funny. “Ahhh I’m melting ha ha ha.” Last but not least I really liked the illustrations. They were amazing, just amazing.This book got my full attention. It has lots of adventure. I recommend this book to people who like adventure. Once you open this book, you will go on an adventure.

I think we will end up buying about ten of these this year. The illustrations are completely enchanting and engaging. We have given this book to children who cannot read yet and also to children who do not speak English. A book to fall into!PA Hausfrau says: "Tolles Buch!"

About the Author Sarah was adopted from Korea. She and her husband have 4 kids. She wrote this book during the terrible 15 month wait to meet their son in Korea for the first time. His foster mom in Korea read this book to him after they met and it seemed to help him prepare. It is still one of his favorite books to read. The hope of the author was to help prepare her son for the life changing transition, for him to always know that his foster mom cared for him and that she loved him the best she could from America.

A Story of Encouragement for that Little Misfit Kid in Your Life By Usagi While this book educates children and adults about the Muslim month of fasting (Ramadan), it also conveys a message of encouragement for all those that feel different.Children may find it difficult to talk about what makes them different. Perhaps that difference is having a chronic health condition, having a family member with a developmental disability, or belonging to a non-traditional family. They may feel just like Lailah and be afraid that nobody will understand. I would recommend this book to parents, family members, educators, and caregivers wanting to give a little bit of encouragement to the child in their life that feels different and out of place.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Delightful Book! By Simply in Control Lailah's Lunchbox is an easy to understand book with great illustrations. As I was reading it, I felt nostalgic thinking about the times that I had to explain Ramadan to others as a child. The author did a wonderful job in not only explaining the child's feelings, but also making Ramadan sound like it's an extra special time for Muslims and that we should be proud to take part in this month. This attitude is especially needed for Muslim children going to schools in the West where they might feel like outsiders.I highly recommend this book and think it would make a perfect gift for a child who completes their first fast in Ramadan.

By E & H Beautiful book that teaches courage in accepting your differences, tolerance, and respect for each other. I love the diversity in the illustrations and in the text. There are so many nuances to the story and illustrations that make it such an endearing book, there's the classmates offering to share, there's the librarian's welcoming smile, the teachers gentle response to Lailah. A perfect book for Muslim families this Ramadan and a perfect book for a diverse bookshelf.
