Don’t Judge A Booty By Its Cover is based upon the trials and tribulations of a woman born with an enormous butt. The story is narrated by protagonist, Mia Moore, who speaks to the audience from the front view of life addressing the misconceptions of how women are seen, depicted, judged and oftentimes made into sexual objects because of their bodies. But Mia’s ultra-ego named “Juicy” tells her own version of the story from the rear. Author Pamela Chapron tackles life’s controversies of “The Booty” from an ingenious perspective. The struggles of a Big Booty are delved into and expressed through an epic display of storytelling. By day, Mia is a sweet, shy, innocent girl with a huge Booty. At night, she becomes “Juicy,” her Ultra Ego and the Talking Booty that controls Mia. Juicy tries to show Mia how to really use her Booty to get the best life has to offer. But there are major consequences in Juicy’s unscrupulous approach. This is a struggle between two personalities fighting for one Soul. Mia hates Juicy. Juicy hates Mia. Ironically, they are the same person but one has to die… Who wins?

Review I purchase your book because you are a Black woman who wrote & published her on book. I thought that was cool and I wanted to show you support. By Jamie Maltman I enjoyed the Star Trek meets Douglas Adams-esque vibe of the first season Greenstar, and was very happy to hear it would be returning for a second season. Their episodic style is perfectly executed, and it really feels like you're watching a comedic space opera story unfold each week, as they visit new systems, encounter a variety of aliens, and get into trouble caused by themselves as much as external threats. The part the authors nailed this season was the overall arc. Each episode is an individual caper, but they're tightly tied together with an overall story that comes to a satisfying conclusion, but absolutely leaves you wanting to know what happens in season 3. I'd start reading it today if it were already available. The humor runs from clever to wonderfully silly, and the memorable characters will come back to you immediately when you start on the first episode, and you'll be rooting for (and against them) right away. Ditto for some great new ones. And of course, the AI Topik is back with my personal favorite part of the episodes, his ascerbically funny intro and outro logs to the reader. The violence is comedic, and any implied sexual content is far from explicit and generally comedic as well, though the relationships between the characters were further explored in this season, as were the borders of the universe.I received an ARC copy of the book from the authors, and also reviewed it on the To Be Read Podcast (which you can track down on YouTube or iTunes).

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Crazy Sci Fi By mike rosing Season 2 is just as much fun as Season 1 with even more weird and insane sci fi constructs. The indestructible liquid beings (called "energy thieves" because they cause stars to nova) along with time traveling envelopes (really!) keep you wondering what the next crazy thing to happen could possibly be. Like Season 1 it continues to make fun of every sci fi TV show, movie and book ever made. If you like sci fi and humor you'll like this book.

The character arcs were deeper and fantastic, and the authors wasted no time getting back into the action. This is definitely one series that is getting better as it goes, so I would definitely recommend it.

By Joshua Senecal Like many parents, we bought some flashcards to help our son keep up on his multiplication skills. In terms of appearance these cards are very nice. They're easy to read and use.Unfortunately, these cards have problems on both sides. Doing it this way allows the manufacturer to pack twice as many problems into a pack of cards, but it also means I can't easily organize the cards based on what he gets right and what he gets wrong, if I want to use them for straight drilling. If you're looking for a comprehensive deck that can be used for drilling, you should probably look elsewhere.

Loot, by Jude Watson

From School Library Journal Gr 4–7—Twelve-year-old March McQuinn has lived a life that many kids can only dream about—world travel, no school, and exciting hijinks—but it comes at a cost. He has always felt as though something, or someone, was missing from his life. So when his father, the notorious jewel thief Alfie McQuinn, falls to his death during a burglary, March is left completely alone. That is, until he is reunited with his long-lost twin sister Jules, who has been traveling with their aunt's street performance group. Following a quick stint in a group home and armed only with street smarts and Alfie's clues, the twins and their friends set out to finish Alfie's last heist before Alfie's rivals do. With well-developed supporting characters and two likable protagonists, Watson has delivered an exciting, clever middle-grade mystery. Although her treatment of death and abandonment sometimes feel a bit too lighthearted, it is in keeping with the fanciful feel of the rest of the story. Throughout, the characters develop organically, and Watson doesn't shy away from real-world consequences. This helps give the book a real sense of urgency during each of the movie-quality action scenes, which makes it a perfect fit for fans of Stuart Gibbs's Belly Up (S. & S., 2011) or Gordon Korman's Swindle (Scholastic, 2009).—Amanda Augsburger, Moline Public Library, IL

From Booklist When master jewel thief Alfie McQuinn dies, his stashed set of clues and cryptic last words to March, his 12-year-old son and apprentice, mark the beginning of a race against time. The first clue leads March to discover his twin sister, Jules, a traveling circus acrobat. Tossed into a group home, they meet Darius, a juvenile delinquent with a soft spot for Izzy, a code-cracking hacker. The four join forces, busting out of the home and into a series of high-stakes heists to reclaim seven cursed moonstone gems once stolen by Alfie. The reward promised is a sizzling seven million bucks, enough to set them up with the home Alfie never lived to realize. The problem? There’s a curse on the twins, prophesied to culminate before their thirteenth birthday next week. Sassy narration, smart quips, pigeon drops, and slang worthy of an episode of Dragnet make this fast-paced tale of topsy-turvy antics a joy from beginning to end. Don’t try these high jinks at home, but give this book to anyone who loved the 39 Clues series. Grades 4-7. --Jeanne Fredriksen

Review Praise for LOOT:"So many things I love about this book: Cursed jewels, a dangerous prophecy, a crash course in the history of thievery, acrobatics and grift . . . This is LOOT you can take to the bank. It's the perfect summer read for kids." -- Rick Riordan, #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of the Percy Jackson series"LOOT is one of those books that you'll want to devour in one sitting. Full of twists and turns and thrills aplenty, with the perfect mixture of humor throughout, this is a must-read. I really loved it." -- James Dashner, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE MAZE RUNNER"LOOT is pure delight -- a super-smart, funny, and exciting ride that I hoped would last forever. Full of wonderful characters and gratifying twists, this story is truly something special." -- Rebecca Stead, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author and Newbery Medalist for WHEN YOU REACH ME"A nonstop thrill ride of cons, schemes, and near misses, with more twists than a pretzel factory. If middle grade heist counts as a genre, Jude Watson is the master." -- Gordon Korman, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of SWINDLE"LOOT is proof that Jude Watson can do it all: an edge-of-your seat mystery that manages to be thrilling, funny, nail-biting, and full of real characters readers will care about. I loved it." -- Peter Lerangis, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of The Seven Wonders series"LOOT is one of my favorite reads in a very long time! I could not put this book down!"-- Jennifer A. Nielsen, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE FALSE PRINCE"LOOT breezes along in Jude Watson's trademark smart, snappy style, a sophisticated caper with a charming and unforgettable cast of characters." -- Natalie Standiford, author of THE SECRET TREE"LOOT is fast, fun, and full of exciting twists -- like OCEANS 11 starring kids. Buried beneath the exciting heist adventure is a beautifully written story of love and resilience, but that just serves to deepen the surprises and suspense that will keep kids flipping pages long after lights out." -- Rachel Vail, author of UNFRIENDED"Bursting with adventure, humor and heart, LOOT is an unputdownable treat. Just make sure to hide it somewhere genius when you're done, so no one tries to steal it." -- Sarah Mlynowski, bestselling author of the Whatever After series"One deadly curse, four runaway kids and seven magical moonstones all add up to a page-turner full of action and heart. This is OCEAN'S ELEVEN for the middle grade reader." -- Kirby Larson, Newbery Honor author of HATTIE BIG SKY* "Akin to the best of roller-coaster rides. . . . Taut, engrossing, and unstoppable." -- KIRKUS REVIEWS, starred review* "Jewel theft has never been as fun as in 39 Clues contributor Watson's action-packed novel featuring Mission: Impossible - style escapades. . . . The high level of suspense, ultra-short chapters, and fast pace will hook readers of all stripes.” -- PUBLISHERS WEEKLY, starred review"Sassy narration, smart quips, pigeon drops, and slang worthy of an episode of DRAGNET make this fast-paced tale of topsy-turvy antics a joy from beginning to end. Don't try these high jinks at home…" -- BOOKLIST"A richly entertaining romp." -- BULLETIN OF THE CENTER FOR CHILDREN'S BOOKS

A KID'S REVIEW By CDV I’m a 4th grader, and I’m going to review the book, Loot: How to Steal A Fortune. This story is about a kid’s dad who fall off a building and is dying, so he tells his son to find jewels. The son figures out that “jewels” is his twin sister, Jules. He finds her and they try to pull off a heist to steal moonstones. They hitch up a team, but there are bad guys who want to steal the moonstones too. The moonstones can tell the future, which I think is exceptionally cool.I thought this book was exciting, but kind of scary in some moments, such as when March keeps seeing this cloaked figure, which scared me a little. But otherwise, it’s a fun, exciting book that I couldn’t put down!! I would recommend this book to kids who like suspenseful and mystery books. The end of each chapter ended in a cliffhanger and there were lots of questions to be answered about Jules and March’s past. —ABrown

17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. A Terrific Caper By Monica Edinger I love me a good caper story. Lighter, smarter, funnier, and a lot less gory than many other sorts of crime fiction, done well, they are great fun to read. And when a heist is involved, ideally in some exotic locale, all the better. I'm not an expert by any means, but my favorite of these sorts of stories involve some sort of initiating event and then a super cool and super smart individual assembling and leading a motley crew to steal something from someone who doesn't deserve to have it in the first place. Say the movies, "How to Steal a Million" or "Ocean's Eleven." Now along comes Jude Watson's Loot: How to Steal a Fortune. Her name may not be terribly familiar to you, but what she's written probably is, say a bunch of the 39 Clues books and many (many) Star War titles. But what caused me to snap up and read this title was when I learned that Jude Watson happens to also be Judy Blundell who wrote the fabulous National Book Award winner What I Saw and How I Lied.It starts out darkly with a job gone very, very wrong. We meet almost-thirteen-year-old March McQuinn, who has spent his whole life traveling around with his father, helping him with his cons and heists, mostly homeschooled in a desultory way. Now Alfie McQuinn has fallen off an Amsterdam roof and March is sitting next to him listening to his dying words, "Find jewels." The moonstones, the grieving March assumes, seven otherworldly gems that are the central objects of desire in this novel. But it turns out that his father means something else entirely. It seems March has a twin sister named Jules from whom he has been separated his whole life. She, like March, has had an unconventional upbringing and is equally savvy in the murky world of con artists and thieves. The two soon meet and end up in a dreary American foster home. There they join forces with two other smart young people and head off to solve the mystery of their father's death, get those moonstones, and do a whole lot more that is far too complicated to describe in brief, not to mention potentially spoiling if I do. What I can say is that it is loads of fun.As in the best caper and heist stories, this one is full of snappy dialog, razor-sharp sentences, and clever plotting. The baddies are deliciously nasty and deserve what they get, the kids are endearing, and all in all it is a great edge-of-your seat read.

So very, very awesome. The writing is taunt and beautiful. It flows poetically, yet March, the narrator, still feels like the twelve year old boy he is. He's mature. You have to be, if you're the son of a well known jewel thief.I love sleep. I really do. But that wasn't exactly a priority when I was reading this. The plot was so fast, so funny, so full of life, that even though I'm not the intended audience (I think Loot is for tween guys or something) I still enjoyed it. C. S. Lewis once said something about the audience doesn't matter as long as the book is good (sorry for butchering that quote.....) and he is totally right.March was a terrific narrator. Sometimes he was hilarious. Sometimes he was heart breaking. All in all, he and the gang are some of my favorite characters now.The one thing I disliked was how March would say "Okay, let's go over the plan again", simply for the reader's sake. Yes, I want to know the plan, but it felt unnatural for him to say that. But would I buy other books by Jude Watson (AKA Judy Blundell)? YES. YESITY YES YES YES.

Review Specifically designed for children aged 8-12, this beautifully bound and attractively laid out Bible is designed to lead the readers to life-long Bible reading. The choice of the King James Version, however, leads one to speculate that only very good readers in this age-range, especially those before the age of ten, will be able to handle the Elizabethan English of this version. But for those who can handle it, the unsurpassed beauty of the KJV will help them realize the marvelous beauty of the English language. And, of course, like the adults around them, they likely will have access to other more modern versions of the Bible. On the other hand, reading this Bible aloud to a child until they can read it on their own is a good idea, as the reading of any book is useful and a bonding experience-not to mention, the opportunity to explain theological concepts and situations in the narrative sections of the Bible as they occur.

"Features of this colorfully bound Bible with a cover of red, green, and yellow, as well as typeface in a dark blue, include a presentation page for personalizing the Bible as a gift; clear, 9-point type; words of Christ in red; 16 full-color charts and illustrations; book introductions; "Hide It in Your Heart" in-text memory verses; You Should Know"; in-text cameos of important "Bible People personalities; Parables and Miracles of the Bible; a Dictionary/concordance; and an 8-page full color map section. Also most helpful are eight pages interspersed throughout the text on heavier stock of pictures and diagrams with titles such as: What is the Bible? How the Bible was written down; Some Bible names and their meanings; People of the New Testament; and Four Gospels ... one life. The colorful contents alone will certainly appeal to any child. This reviewer highly recommends it, especially with the suggestions about involvement of adults in reading it with the child."--"Bible Editions & Versions"

Veitch I bought this Study Bible for my 9 year old daughter for school, and loved it so much I am going to order one for myself! We especially like the boxes with "verses to hide in your heart" that are throughout the chapters. And there are great pages of extra info, including pictures of items, tidbits about people of interest in the bible, maps, etc. I would definitely recommend this Bible, for anyone of any age!

A fantasy in the sense of Alice in Wonderland, but not for children. It's cock-and-bull like Tristram Shandy, but without the digressions. It's satire in the tradition of Gulliver's Travels, but the satire is on modern science. The humour is British, like the Goons or Monty Python. The protagonists are two young students, Phi and Psi, finding their way in life. In Book I, In Quest of Mu, they go in search of the ancient Mu, a philosophical refugee from Athens to Upper Matta. Mu himself is on a philosophical quest to answer his guiding question, Why is there movement at all, rather than standstill? In Book II, The Way Back to Anaxaton, the main character turns out to be the mysterious Willy P., the power behind the scenes. Matta stands for 'mathematics', but there are no formulae, only a more or less playful, historical treatment of maths along with a couple of Greek symbols. The quantum mechanics is accurate, but blown up to fantastic proportions with fun-loving, unbridled literary licence. This makes it look superficially like sci-fi, but it's subtler. The philosophical strand is substantial, but presented narratively and playfully camouflaged. The presentation is tongue-in-cheek, so the reader constantly has to decide at each point whether it's serious sense or straight-faced nonsense. Usually it's both. It has some quasi-Platonic dialogue, and the whole is borne by philosophical questions subversively at work in the background.

Bragdon Eldred brings ideas that are having a profound influence on our culture, but which are poorly understood, into both imaginative and cognitive grasp by means of a road trip in a parallel world with many resemblances to our own. Two friends are followed in their search for understanding, using methods of travel that are aspects of the phenomenon and examples of the ideas that intrigue them. Along the road they meet highly original and entertaining characters who are easily recognised as representing various modern theoretical positions taken on the nature of reality and our responsibility in interpreting, even in obstructing and deforming it. A story also of the hidden roles fear, ambition, and will for power play in ostensively pure intellectual pursuits. All told with a sparkling sense of humour and conceptual clarity.

A book that caused a huge sensation when it was first published in 1903, The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers is a vivid account of German preparations to invade England, released at a time when tensions between the two countries were at an all time high. Named by The Guardian newspaper as one of the 100 greatest novels of all time, The Riddle of the Sands has delighted generations of sailing aficionados and thriller readers with its nautical and political verisimilitude. “The first modern thriller.” The Times “ …never loses pace.” The Independent on Sunday “…ranks highly with the best.” The Independent From Publishers Weekly: "An insightful introduction by the author's great-grandson distinguishes this reissue of a seminal work of spy fiction first published in 1903. At the dawn of the 20th century, Carruthers, a young Foreign Office functionary, is lamenting being stuck in London with little to do when he receives a surprising communiqué from Oxford classmate Arthur Davies. Davies's request to join him on a yacht in Schleswig-Holstein includes an eccentric laundry-list of items that Davies wants his friend to bring. With nothing else on his horizon, Carruthers accepts, and ends up enmeshed in intrigue centering on Davies's concern that Germany's growing sea-power poses a threat to England. Childers (1870-1922) couples his patiently developed plot with richly imagined lead characters. Davies himself is the standout, rounded out by numerous quirks, including a craving for throwing items overboard from his small vessel. Eric Ambler fans will find this a fascinating antecedent."

From Booklist First published in 1903, Childers novel caused a sensation in Britain. It is a vivid account of German preparations to invade England, released at a time when tensions between the countries were rising. Carruthers, a young staff member in the foreign office, is invited by Davies, a Cambridge friend, on a yachting holiday in the Frisian Islands along Germanys north coast. Carruthers is appalled. The yacht, Dulcibella, is a spartan 30-footer, and the poorly charted sea is a maze of shifting sands, conflicting currents, and volatile weather. The two men soon come to believe that the German government is planning war, and they set out to gather proof. Named by The Guardian as one of the 100 greatest novels of all time, The Riddle of the Sands has delighted generations of sailing aficionados and thriller readers with its nautical and political verisimilitude. That said, it is also a Victorian-era tale that challenges contemporary readers with its dense and detailed expository writing about sailing and the machinations of the Germans. One of the 100 best books ever? Probably not, but lovers of the sea, espionage thrillers, and European history will continue to embrace it in this welcome new edition. --Thomas Gaughan

Review ?This is a book of great renown. . . . Its beautifully sustained atmosphere . . . adds poetry, and . . . real mystery.? ?Ian Fleming --ReviewFirst published in 1903, this classic relates the intrigue the unfolds when cruiser Arthur Davies asks his former Oxford classmate, an aristocrat known only as Carruthers to join him for duck shooting and yachting in the Baltic aboard the no-frills centerboard yawl DULCIBELLA. This odd couple mariner and sophisticate team to unravel a pre-World War I German plot from clues found in the shifting sands off Germany's coast. --Cruising World, February 2002

However, to appreciate the novel, you have to know beforehand several things. But, don't worry, that is not much. The story is narrated by an English gentleman Currthuers, who received an unexpected invitation of duck shooting from an old friend Davies. Being tired of his neglected position in "society," he accepts it to go to the North Sea only to find that he is involved in a mystery, or "the riddle of the Sands." His friend claims there's something in the air, something hiding behind the misty coast of Germany. But how can they prove it?As a story, "The Riddle of the Sands" is far from perfect. It is full of authentic descriptions of local landscapes (the author actually cruised his yacht there), but at the same time frequent reference to the geographical data and nautical terms are a bit wearisome to readers, and moreover, the narrator often refers us to the maps in the appendix. Those things only slow down the action of the novel, and actually the book sometimes has to go through lull. But, wait a while. The story gets gradually faster, and as the adventure of the heroes slowly gets near to the core of the plot, the tale becomes more and more gripping. Though characters sometimes are just more than cardboard (and especially female part is poorly done), your patience will be rewarded. It is well-known that Sherlock Holmes in "His Last Bow" turns a spy for his country, and says "There's an east wind coming." The meaning of what Holmes says is clear to the comtemporary people, and Childers, a politician, also wrote his book not as an amusement but as a warning to England about the coming threat of Germany, and actually "The Riddles of the Sands" was written about 10 years before WW1 began. In this historical context too, the book is interesting, and the tediousness of the opening chapters is justified if you keep it in mind that it is meant for Childers's sarcasm against indifference and complacency among the English people (talking of English complacency, we remember later in 1938, immediately before WW2, Alfred Hitchcock again uses it as a satire in his thriller "The Lady Vanishes" with brilliantly silly two British gentlemen who are more concerned with cricket games than surrounding danger). People don't change. So, the book itself is still enjoyable, but these historical matters will make it more precious; after all, it is one of the proof how people reacted to the coming change in the history of mankind. And if you're interested in this kind of book (I mean, books reflects German-England relationship), check out "The Battel of Dorking" by George Chesney (written in 1871) and "When William Came" (in 1913) by Saki once.

I say, Carruthers, well done old chap By Peter Reeve In deciding whether to read this novel, there are some things you should know:Firstly, it is beautifully written. It is a classic piece of prose literature. Long descriptive passages evoke a wonderful atmosphere and sense of place. The characterization is sharp and accurate, and the dialogue is convincing.Secondly, this is not an action-packed spy thriller. The story unfolds slowly and is somewhat linear, without the shock twists and turns that would be expected from a contemporary spy story. Having said that, you are better reading the book without knowing exactly what the answer to the 'riddle' is. Many of the reviews here on Amazon contain the spoiler and the blurb on the back of the Penguin Red Classics edition has it too. You have been warned.Next, there is a lot about boats and the sea. If you are any kind of boat enthusiast, you will love this book. If you are not, or are positively averse to the ocean, then you will find the lengthy descriptions of tacking and sounding, reefing and kedging, to be rather wearisome. This is essentially the adventures of two Englishmen in a boat. The opening chapters are extremely funny at times, as the hero discovers that his yachting holiday isn't going to be quite the luxury excursion he envisaged. The first half of the book is a delightful comedy of manners, but the mood gradually changes as the tension builds. It is a book of its time - the end of the nineteenth century and the build up to the Great War. As such, it gives remarkable insights into the culture and attitudes of the period. The reference in the first sentence to 'black faces' may bring a few modern readers up short. The hero Carruthers (a name which has since become a parody) is a true-blue British hero -- honorable, brave and determined. I was forcibly reminded of Bulldog Drummond and of an adventure of his - Bulldog Drummond at Bay - published just before World War II, containing the same urgent (and uncannily accurate) warnings about German military buildup. But Carruthers is far more sympathetic and believable a character than Drummond, and Childers an immeasurably better writer than Sapper.A great strength of the book is its authenticity. One can believe every moment actually happened. All the characters are fallible and plans invariably go slightly awry, just as in real life. And you can almost feel the mud and the cold wind and rain of the landscape - or rather seascape - in which most of the events take place.A masterpiece, for lovers of great literature.[PeterReeve]

Solid read, but only in context By Seth Merlo I bought The Riddle of the Sands to use in an History essay for university where I was looking at how the spy was portrayed before World War I. As one of the more popular titles from that era of 'invasion literature,' Childer's work certainly fit the bill. It is the story of two men sailing around the Frisian Islands trying to uncover a German plot to invade the north of England. That's basically it in the way of plot. It was Childer's way of calling attention to what he believed where Britain's insufficient North Sea defenses, and the real possibility of a German naval invasion. He succeeded in that endeavour and the North Sea defenses were eventually strengthed, which you could view either as a testament to the power of this novel, or to the 'great underlying problems and increasing pessimism' felt throughout Europe (to quote Ruth Henig), in the lead up to World War I.Whichever view you take, the novel has a depth of characterisation that is quite remarkable for a first attempt at fiction. Davies and Carruthers are representative of the two poles of English class/social structure at the time, with the inarticulate, yet perceptive everyman Davies teaming up with well-mannered and intellectually capable Carruthers, figurative of the way that all aspects of British society would need to come together to face the coming invasion. However, the fact that this was Childers' first and only novel begins to show in his pacing. This is hardly the 'cliff-hanger' that Milt Bearden claims it to be in his brief 5-page introduction. However, Childers' purpose was not to write a thrilling page turner, but a warning against German invasion. To really enjoy this novel, you have to read it in that context, otherwise you'll be thinking 'what's the big deal?' There is relevance to our contemporary situation, given the whole 'invasion' theme, but to understand that connection, you need to be aware of the reasons for Childers' decision to write this book, and, by extension, the motivation of his characters. This Modern Library edition does offer some background in Bearden's introduction. Enough to give the casual reader some brief historical context, at least. It follows the Modern Library's tradition of having authors from relevant and related fields offering their thoughts, rather than the academic/scholarly approach that Penguin or Oxford take. The problem here though is that it is too brief to offer any real insights. There is also the standard Modern Library reading guide, offering questions that range between vaguely thought-provoking to superficial. I don't know why they bother with these reading guides, especially at the expense of a decent introduction. However, if you're just after the story without wading through the academia of the Oxford World's Classic release, then this is the version you're after. Plus, Modern Library's cover art is always so much nicer to look at!
