Building on Rudolf Steiner’s Anthroposophy, this book tackles the central task of our time―the epistemological struggle with evil―and presents the five most important spiritual events since the beginning of the Age of Michael: 1879, the rise of Michael to the rank of Time Spirit; 1899, the end of Kali Yuga; 1933, the appearance of Christ in the Etheric; 1998, the assault of Sorath, "one of the greatest ahrimanic demons"; and the present, the incarnation of Ahriman. These events are linked to the five main tasks of the present Age of Michael―the great challenge of inner knowledge and spiritual consciousness posed by the epoch as a whole. In the light of world history and within the context of “the sign of five” we stand now at the fifth place―the point of Ahriman’s incarnation.

The Anthroposophic Movement, seen superficially, is failing, and won't deal with the metaphysical framework before them, and us. That framework is a breathtaking powerful manifestation of evil, which is just getting started. Traditional Western religious beliefs, and practices, simply , passively, accept the black magic formulation of an Apocalypse in the Mid-East, sometime in the very near future. This is the triumph of the demonic Dark Feminine in the name of Christianity. We are not helpless, we are men. Danger is real, fear is a choice, and it is the wrong choice for us. We can change the world by first changing ourselves, and the necessary first step is to define the metaphysical situation before us correctly. Meyer has given us an excellent framework, and one and all would do well to work with it in the meditations, and their lives.

Two Steps Forward: A Story of Persevering in Hope (Sensible Shoes Series), by Sharon Garlough Brown

Review "As in the Bible itself, there are plenty of flawed people here. Sometimes, Brown lovingly shows, God doesn't clean up the messes of life. Sometimes he calms the storm, but sometimes he just calms his child." (Billie Rae Bates, Foreword Reviews, Winter 2016)"Once again, Sharon Brown has provided an inspirational story that allows readers to shadow four women as they continue their spiritual journey. Each facing specific challenges, the friends learn that God is with us, even now, even here, in the midst of our own mess. With a powerful companion guide for prayer and conversation, this book is ideal for anyone dealing with loss, abuse, fear, anxiety or insecurities. It reminds us all with a gentle touch that we are born in the image of God and we are worthy of being loved." (Julie Cantrell, New York Times bestselling author of Into the Free and The Feathered Bone)"Two Steps Forward is a wonderful continuation of Sensible Shoes as they share life with their spiritual director and each other. I became totally engaged in the thoughts, actions and process of the gals struggling in their own formation. Sharon shows that the narrow road does lead to life, or to put it differently, God does his deepest work in the darkest night. Read, weep and celebrate with the four women of Kingsbury who want to be more like Christ." (Rachael Crabb, coauthor of Listen In)"I couldn't wait to dive again into the lives of the four friends I got to know in Sensible Shoes. I was not disappointed as I laughed, cried and thanked God for the sisters in my own life walking the journey with me." (Anita Lustrea, executive producer/host, Midday Connection, author, speaker, spiritual director)"Have you ever wondered what it would be like to meet with a spiritual director to talk about your spiritual journey? Sharon Brown does a masterful job of giving the reader a glimpse of what that process is like through the stories of four different women looking for peace and hope. For me, these women have become sacred companions on my own journey. I learned and pondered things with them like: What are you afraid of? Where do you want control? What agitates you? Learn to linger with what provokes you. What is God stirring in your soul? It is as though you enter into spiritual direction yourself, and it's life transforming! My own heart has been enlarged for more of Jesus as a result of Two Steps Forward!" (Marilyn Hontz, author of Listening for God)"With her characteristic wisdom and grace, Sharon Garlough Brown gives voice to hope in the stories of Hannah, Charissa, Mara and Meg. Their spiritual journeys during Advent are marked by darkness, waiting and even heartbreak. Yet in Brown's honest and tender narrative, their friendship with each other and their openness to God's work in their lives continues to draw them toward light and new life, bearing witness to light in the darkness. To read this book is to learn to hope. In the lives of these four women, Brown reveals a God who calls us beloved even through our tears, who faithfully keeps his promises and who sends a Savior to bring joy to the world. Two Steps Forward offers spiritual insights of the rarest beauty about both the pain and the peace at the 'growing edges' in our life with God. Like Sensible Shoes, this book is a gift and blessing to all who long for Emmanuel." (Rebecca Konyndyk DeYoung, Calvin College, author of Glittering Vices)"When I received the advance reader's copy, I gobbled it up, reading it far too fast while not wanting the experience to end. I loved reading about Mara's trip to London―her description of a Tube ride is spot on―and the other women's support of each other through their various struggles. The way the author conveys the transforming nature of their spiritual growth is brilliant and compelling." (Amy Boucher Pye, Woman Alive, February 2016)

Great to catch up with these ladies By Paula Vince The first book in this series, Sensible Shoes, was one of my favourite books of 2014, and this picks up where that one left off. The four main characters are so different from each other, once again I was amazed by how easy it was to relate to each one of them. I especially like the tension between how they think they should behave and whether it's the response their heart tells them is right. These are definitely Christian novels, with God's subtle workings in the hearts of individuals at their own heart.Christians are often counselled to put others' preferences ahead of their own, and Meg is a natural at that, but how is it meant to play out when you're chafing inside? When you know the other person will resent you for speaking up, but you can't sweep aside your point of view this time, especially when it's a person you care deeply for?Christians are told that we should be Jesus' hands and feet, which would seem especially the case for a pastor like Hannah, but when is a line crossed into self-appointing yourself as God's rep or deputy? I like her revelation, 'My words declared Jesus was Lord but my life declared I was.' And also her paradigm shift that she'd been putting all of her confidence into her ability to hear from God, instead of his ability to speak to her in a way she'd recognise and understand. What a big potential stress relief for many of us.It's great to see Mara, the under-appreciated mother with her history of rejection, learn to keep soaking in the truth that no matter whether or not her outer experiences reflect it, she is beloved! We are all beloved. What a simple, but revolutionary truth to remember each morning. How great is her relationship with her son, Jeremy! For a little while, I was concerned that she was showing favouritism, but no, her interactions with Kevin in this story show that's not the case. Then there's Charissa. What hope is there for a control freak who even wants to control how she's going to give up control? She asks that question herself. Her's is a wake-up call for those times when we want to separate our sense of self from our achievements and reputations. Her story helps us step back to question our motives when we ask, 'Why am I working so hard on this project anyway?'I like the chance to probe the deeper questions these ladies' stories raise. They may even be different for each of us. For me, one of them was 'to what extent should we accept our knee-jerk reactions as part of our natural make-up, and to what extent should we desire to temper and change them?' It would seem the experiences of the four main characters bear out my own; it's a bit of both. Even though mentally beating ourselves up for our perceived shortcomings does no good whatsoever, if an ingrained reaction is holding us back, it's possible, with God's help, to work on overlaying it with new attitudes. While some of the particular episodes in this story are neatly wrapped up, it's easy to see that the wider issues are still unfolding, making me hope for a third book.

Where the first book "Sensible Shoes" taught Spiritual practices, "Two Steps Forward" showed the characters wrestling with holding onto them in their messy lives. I'm glad that Brown doesn't sugar coat Christianity to make it seem as though all is ironed out and clean. Instead, she pointed at the weaknesses of her characters and demonstrated how God filled their void with His power and love and provision.Highly recommended for book clubs, study groups, people looking to dig deeper into their Spiritual lives. Readers would do best to read Sensible Shoes first, though.

Set during the Advent season, the characters' story continues almost immediately following the conclusion of the first book, and, now, we find them attempting to live out the spiritual lessons they were taught in the last book. In the midst of very plausible life challenges and struggles, the characters each weave into their lives spiritual practices they previously learned, as they try to navigate new ways with God in the middle of messy circumstances. Brown does an excellent job showing just how knowing and practicing spiritual disciplines doesn't miraculously change your life, but rather, they are tools to assist you down the winding path with Jesus. Yes, the Holy Spirit does bring change, but not always in the ways or in the timing that we prefer. Book clubs, small groups and individuals who simply want to go deeper, would do well to note the "Companion Guide for Prayer and Conversation" in the back of the book. This 8 week guide is rich with reflection questions, spiritual practices, and discussion questions, all drawn directly out of the narrative, giving readers a chance to go two steps forward in their own spiritual lives.

The Secret Hum of a Daisy, by Tracy Holczer

From School Library Journal Gr 6–8—Holczer writes about the common theme of loss, but creates quite an uncommon character who must deal with the sudden death of her mother, and moving in with a grandmother she has never met. Grace's mother leads them on a nomadic life of moving from one place to another, always searching for just the right home, until her untimely death. Grace must then find a way to get to know and forgive her grandmother who has always been a stranger in her life. She soon discovers that her mother has left her one more treasure hunt. The clues take her deep inside her family's past and unlock memories that finally give her the stability and roots she has always been craving. Holczer expertly crafts the characters and dialogue to create a story readers will identify with, and thoroughly enjoy. The undercurrent theme of loss is balanced well with humor and an authentic protagonist. More than simply a book about grief and the death of a parent, Grace's story is about the search for identity. An essential purchase for middle-grade collections.—April Sanders, Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL

Lovely Writing Paired With Excellent Story-Telling By Willow THE SECRET HUM OF A DAISY features Grace, a girl who is mourning the loss of her mother and how to navigate her sorrow, what to hold onto, and what to let go. There are many details to love about this story: fragile, yet strong Grace and the quirky, endearing characters who surround her; the endowed, almost sacred origami cranes, junk-art birds, daisies; the recurring Robert Frost poetry references; and some of the most lovely, poetic phrases that I've ever read in prose. But nothing in this story is gratuitous. Every lovely line helps advance the story, reveal character, and/or establish setting...or more to culminate in a deeply satisfying reading experience. In all, Tracy Holczer has woven together a thoughtful, touching story that only seems effortless as a reader. I have no doubt that it was written with great skill and effort and is an excellent example of the rich effect that lyrical writing can have on a novel.

The Secret Hum of a Daisy: An Absolute Must Read By Tina Says Tracy Holczer's The Secret Hum of a Daisy is the type of novel I devour, then want to begin all over again. This book is so much more than just the story that Holczer has written. It is an absolutely beautiful book, full of wisdom and sadness, and hope. Grace is twelve years old when her mother dies in an accident. It has always been just the two of them against the world. Grace's father died before she was born, and although she knows she has a grandmother out there somewhere, she has never met her. Grace's mom and grandma didn't see eye to eye on things when Grace's mom was pregnant with her, and she left town, never returning. The two move often, not really allowing themselves to settle in any one town. But now that her mom has passed away, Grace is being sent to live with her grandmother, a woman that she is sure she is not supposed to like. Her grandmother's life feels far from the one she was accustomed to living with her mom.Grace continues to want to live in the Before....before the accident, not the After. Her grief is still new, and as she tries to mourn the loss of her mother, she is also adjusting to a new school and her grandmother, who doesn't seem nearly as horrible as she anticipated.Grace learns a lot about life and about love and about moving on. Holczer's novel is so beautifully written. There is an important message within this story, and although I just finished reading this myself, would love to start over again so I can enjoy the wisdom that is imparted in its pages. This is a novel I will be recommending to everyone from my middle grade readers to my adult friends. I'm hoping The Secret Hum of a Daisy is on everyone's mind come Newbery time.

By delicateflower152 That statement - from the ARC - aptly summarizes the lesson several characters in "The Secret Hum of a Daisy" will learn. Tracy Holczer has given readers a novel that is heartbreaking; beautiful; and finally, joyous.Grace, a twelve-year old girl, is the daughter of an itinerant artist - a young woman who creates and sells birds made from "found" objects. Anna's sudden death tears Grace's life and her world into pieces. Her description of what she feels tells all one needs to know about the devastating impact of her mother's death - "... I was certain ... they'd find stuff missing ... some deep down place that knew how to love and smile and feel as light as feathers on sunshiney days. That part was clean gone ..." Tracy Holczer has done an outstanding job of describing the emotions and raw pain that a child feels when facing life after the death of a parent. She has accomplished this using simple phrasing and vivid imagery without creating maudlin or hysterical characters.Grace goes to live with only living relative, her grandmother Miranda, a woman she had been led to believe forced Anna to leave when her teen pregnancy was known. As the Grace come to terms with her situation and learns more about Miranda, Grace says "...It was an effort to squeeze her back down to the right size and shape..." "...The person I'd made Grandma up to be, someone hard and cruel, just didn't match this woman ..."Miranda, too, is haunted by her past actions and must come to terms with the consequences of those actions. At one point, Grace tells her "...You owe Mama things you can't give me..." To which Miranda replies "I know I do ..." Miranda tends the grounds daily in the public park she designed and in which a fountain Anna designed stands as the centerpiece. Grace's friend Jo tells her "...You can tell how much she loves this place ..." While Miranda was unable to show her love to Anna when Anna was present, she now performs, in tending the park, acts of daily contrition.Other characters impact Grace's life and the overall story told through "The Secret Hum of a Daisy". Tracy Holczer has created a protagonist and supporting players having the depth of character and the real emotions necessary to touch the reader deeply. Each individual learns to forgive and to move forward; each plays an integral role in the lessons to be learned and the road lives will take.Tracy Holczer has given readers a novel that will engage them from the first page. "The Secret Hum of a Daisy" is a book that was impossible to put aside; I lost track of time as I read this book. This is a novel parents can feel comfortable giving to children in the targeted age group. There is no profanity, violence, or physical impropriety; the story emphasizes positive values and relationships. "The Secret Hum of a Daisy" is a book to read and treasure. It explores the impact of anger on relationships; of the need for forgiveness; and of the healing power of love. Although the target audience is age ten and older, this is a book for anyone who enjoys a well-written, beautiful novel.

Raphael I should have read the description beforehand, but I don't understand why Brower released these same five stories in two different anthologies. I would advise readers to skip this collection, and just buy WORKS OF SHORT FICTION because the additional stories in the other anthology are a must-read.I think Brower should seriously rethink his marketing strategies.

This book is highly relatable and relevant to today's girls. The analogies using Disney princes will capture any females attention. The authors lead you through personal experience dealing with infatuation, conversations with God, and powerful prayers you can pray for your own prince charming, complete with scriptures ! I'll be implementing a few of those for my man. Most practical is the revelation presented that boys, as adorable as they can be, are not the perfect princes that girls conjure up in their dreamy minds. This book makes it clear that through faith and patience and prayer one can be encouraged to wait on God's perfect timing to have Mr. Right "enter stage right". Meanwhile, a girl can grow in the most important relationship of her life with Jesus Christ and know that He is refining her prince charming at the same time.Getting a hold of this book now will likely save you some disappointment and heartache, but mostly you'll be encouraged to live for Christ and have a greater understanding of how He views you as His lovely princess.

By Candace Loyd Beauty, Boys, and Ball gowns is an inspiring, challenging, and relevant book for not only today's girls, but women as well! Olivia, the creator of Crown of Beauty Magazine, knows exactly how to keep it light and fluffy while also reaching to the core of who we are as ladies and stirring something up for the glory of God. God desires that we know who we are and whose we are and Beauty, Boys, and Ball Gowns brings God's heart for His ladies to the forefront. After reading this book, I left feeling encouraged and challenged to seek God's heart and will for me even more, especially in the hard seasons where I become restless and ready to move on with the next step. Thank you Olivia for loving your sisters enough to "sharpen" us! "As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens another." -Proverbs 27:17

The Crown of Beauty Magazine founder, Olivia Jarmusch, describes the glorious reality of all who belong to Jesus. For me, this book strips away the desire to be like this world and ignites a passion to follow the calling God has placed on our lives. Jarmusch uses great analogies and has filled these pages with the Word of God. I encourage everyone to not only read this great book but to soak up the truths found on every page.

Long before the half-faerie Melia was born in the mortal world, the god Vulcan married Isolt of the Waters. When she betrayed him, the seeds of a great war were planted in the Void. In Idonne, a young scholar studies Isolt’s story, along with tales of dwarf magic and the birth of a malevolent entity in the Void, Umbra. The stories inspire his dream of a life filled with adventure and heroism. Whimsical and edgy, Daughter of Light is a high fantasy with an intriguing cosmology and well-developed characters. Readers who enjoyed The Lord of the Rings and Throne of Glass will likely enjoy this series. The Daughter of Light fantasy trilogy: Isolt’s Enchantment, the beginnings (Free) I loved the beauty of the world when Vulcan first meets Una, and I especially enjoyed the explanation of Umbra. Isolt’s vengeance was absolutely delicious, and I could recommend this book based solely on that scene.—Erica at Fantasy Book Lane Half Faerie, Book 1 I found myself sharing emotions with several characters and my husband would walk by just shaking his head, he doesn’t understand books and what they can do. I highly recommend this book. I want to thank Heidi Garrett for making my otherwise boring life so exciting with her books, I am loving it, every single minute! Five stars for Half Faerie. —KJ at Kj Reads A Lot Half Mortal, Book 2 The pace picks up quite a bit as the stakes are raised in Half Mortal, the second book in this epic coming of age fantasy trilogy. I can totally understand why the comparison to LoTR has been drawn, as Melia and her cohorts battle numerous foes as they attempt to make things right- in both realms.—Mama Reads, Hazel Reads War & Grace, Book 3 (Coming in 2016!)

By Jodi P This prequel to Half Faerie introduces a wonderful back story of characters, places and worlds that lead into the next book. Many magical and mortal people lives intertwine and not always with positive results. This tale weaves interesting elements of love, loss, betrayal, and the uncovering of secrets and hidden agenda's. The author weaves a story that wants the reader to follow the journey's of the mortal and "enchanted ones" as they learn how their lives are affected by the others and their deeds. If you love stories with faeries (winged and not winged), trolls, mages (dark faeries), Gods, and other fantasy characters this story will engulf you, and leave you wanting more. The author provides a nice glossary of characters and worlds mentioned in the story. It is included near the end of the book. The story flows and the characters parts make sense to evolve the story. I look forward to reading the next books in the series. I feel I have a good base to go on before moving on to the next. I love the characters and I am intrigued about the worlds in which they reside. As a person who loves the fantasy genre, this book provides it all. Looking forward to the next part of the journey. I will be cheering on the main character Ryder as he finds out who he is, where is from and what is his destiny. Thank you to the author who sent me an arc for review. I love the story and applaud her for creating a wonderful magical tale that feeds my Fae genre addiction.

Beautiful Fantasy World By Fantasy Book Lane Young Ryder learns the epic histories of the Realm of Faerie and longs to travel there himself.First and foremost, this book is a teaser to entice readers to enjoy more books in the series. I grabbed this on a free download, and I must say that it certainly served its purpose. This is a delightful teaser, and I'd love to read more of the story.Ryder is ready to take his vows as a priest, or well sort of. He doesn't have much interest in it. He wants to be a Guard. But in order to pursue his dream, he has to take his vows and continue his mentor's work.Ryder's story is actually quite small. The majority of the narrative is the stories he reads in the scrolls, information regarding the Realm of Faerie. I enjoyed those stories very much. I loved the beauty of the world when Vulcan first meets Una, and I especially enjoyed the explanation of Umbra. Isolt's vengeance was absolutely delicious, and I could recommend this book based solely on that scene. This is high fantasy in a realm that has been developed quite nicely by the author. She has carefully crafted her world, and I enjoyed taking this short stroll through its history.

By Tonja Drecker I read this book as the first in the series (although I'm guessing from the .5 that it was later added on) but in a way, I wish I would have read it later on. In Isolt's Enchantment, the main characters are somewhat introduced along with the missing holes of their backgrounds--and what interesting backgrounds they are!We meet Ryder's mother (the scholar who studies Isolt's story) and the tragic story behind his birth as well as up-bringing. Through nicely placed re-tellings, which he is forced to study as a priest, Isolt's story comes to life. The author does a great job weaving these ancient myths in, and although we only get them through Ryder's studies, the characters still come to life. I think I was even more excited than him to find out what would happen next.Ryder's part in the story felt more jarred. Although he is the main character, and we learn about everything that will drive him in the later story, his story feels a little incomplete. He is a very intriguing character, and it's easy to feel for him as he struggles against what he wants and what those around him want for him. Still, this first book leaves him hanging a bit, and since book 1 doesn't pick up with him for several chapters, this left me wishing to learn what happens with him sooner. In other words, this book is simply not a stand-alone, and if the reader goes into it knowing this and remembering this, all is good and well.I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
