Age Level: 9 and up | Grade Level: 4 and upThe name's Chase Cooper, and this is my tenth diary as a 6th grade ninja. If I had a penny for every time trouble came knocking at my door... I'd have ten pennies. A few days have passed since the green ninja clan appeared, but that's more than enough time for them to give me a headache. It doesn't help that my attention is stretched between a crazy robotics competition, an annoying pirate poser, and the ex-leader of the red ninja clan. Somehow Wyatt and I have found ourselves on the same side of the fence this time, but we've made a deal - if I help him get his ninja clan back then he'll leave me alone forever. Now Wyatt and I are on a mission to figure out who the leaders of the new ninja clans are, but working with Wyatt definitely isn't easy. Whoever said "keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer" obviously never met Wyatt.Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja 10: My Worst Frenemy is a hilarious action adventure that's entertaining for children ages 9-12, middle school students, and adults.

However, in this particular episode we have more on the "holiday ninjas". Be prepared for more betrayals and more Wyatt.Once again, the characters are clear cut and have there own personalities. Chase is once agaith hero. I have to admire how accepting Chase is of Dante. Dante seemed like an outcast through the entire book. I'm glad Chase was kind to him.Lots of laughs, and a funny new story for everyone to enjoy.Stay on the lookout for number 11!

My Worst Frenemy By L Lue I really hope there is another Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja book or at least a series like Diary of a 7th or 5th grade ninja book series, or maybe Diary of a 8th Grade Scavenger, like Victor from book 7 and 9. I love the Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja series. It was one of the best series I have ever read!

As Christians find themselves trapped in the rhetoric of platform, influence, retweets, and fame, they need a ladder out of the fray.

Many of us live in a prison of self-absorption. Shackled with pride and despair, we compare ourselves to others constantly in our frantic, unending pursuit of perfection.

Seated with Christ gets to the root of this behavior and charts a path to freedom.

Scripture says that God’s beloved are seated with Christ in the heavens (Eph. 2:6), treasured by Him and given a place at His table. Heather Holleman unveils what this means for us.

It means we walk out on the fight for acceptance. We quit measuring ourselves to others. We leap free from cycles of shame.

Securely-seated people can ask themselves hard questions about their lives; they can deal with sin, grieve their losses, and move forward in hope. From a position of security and self-forgetfulness they can joyfully do the good works prepared for them uniquely. They can even celebrate the successes of others.

Seated with Christ is a deeply personal, liberating look at a glorious truth: that we have a place at God's eternal table.

Seated with Christ: Living Freely in a Culture of Comparison, by Heather Holleman

Review

Honestly, this book is one of the most profound I have ever read! Seated with Christ is a treasure. If you’ve ever wondered if you belong, if you’ve ever struggled with comparing yourself to others, if you’ve ever longed for a more influential position, this book is for you. Heather beautifully and brilliantly helps you take your seat at the Almighty King’s table. Your life will never be the same. - Becky Harling, speaker and author, The 30 Day Praise Challenge

If you long to passionately pursue a faith that spreads to your entire sphere of influence, read this book. I was captured by Heather Holleman’s obedience to “being,” rather than “doing.” I finally understand what it means to be seated with Christ. This book will teach you how to live a life that matters—and instead of working harder, you will be creating margin that opens extraordinary opportunity. Do not miss this book!- Carol Kent, speaker and author, Unquenchable: Grow a Wildfire Faith That Will Endure Anything

Seated with Christ is a refreshing exploration of what it can look like to see yourself rightfully and securely seated with Him. There truly is such freedom that comes from knowing you can have a secure and specific seat, and that above all your identity resides there. This is a powerful principle for all of us as we pursue becoming all of who God has created us to be as daughters and sons and as fully adopted heirs. This is a great resource and a gift for anyone looking to explore who they are in Christ. - Jeanne Stevens, Lead Pastor, Soul City Church, Chicago

God created us to desire significance, to search for more, and commissioned us to go forth to subdue the earth. If left untempered, our flesh attempts to accomplish His command in our own strength. In Seated with Christ, Heather Holleman provides key insights to unlock the secrets of the abiding rest every believer longs for, and the place of belonging every believer needs. - Julie Gorman, author of What I Wish My Mother Had Told Me about Men and What I Wish My Mother Had Told Me about Marriage

I need encouragement and motivation to live not for the big “I” but for Christ! I’m sure you do too. As I read Seated with Christ, my heart was lifted up, I sighed, and I smiled. Open this book and be ready to laugh, learn, think deeply, and have your heart encouraged! I highly recommend this book! - Linda Dillow, author, Calm My Anxious Heart and coauthor, Passion Pursuit

From the Back Cover

Calm, connected, and secure—the power of seated living

Many of us live half alive. We compare, compete, self-analyze, and self-promote in our endless, busy pursuit of perfection.

Seated with Christ heralds a new kind of living. If it’s true what Scripture says, that we are treasured by God and given a place at His table, then all we need to do is to take our seats. Heather Holleman shows us how.

Joyfully sharing her journey to seated living, she invites us to walk out on the fight for acceptance, stop comparing ourselves to others, and leap free from cycles of shame. She tells of a confidence that lets us celebrate the seats of others and be perfectly content with our own.

Take your seat and live—simply, freely, fully—because of Jesus, for Jesus, and in the love of Jesus. Quit trying: be free.

"This book will teach you how to live a life that matters. Instead of working harder, you will be creating margin that opens extraordinary opportunity. Do not miss this book!"

It’s not every farmer who can claim to have been killed by a whale falling from the sky. Fewer still can say they were brought back to life. But David Eno can. Impossible? Not when you’re in purgatory. Of course, no one else calls it that. Not even David’s parents. They believe they’re colonists on an alien planet. But David knows, and that’s why he’s made it his mission to find a way out. It won’t be easy; purgatory is teeming with demons. Fortunately, David has a pair of good-luck charms up his sleeve: a canine companion that’s more grizzly bear than dog, and a rifle that never runs out of bullets. But as he soon discovers, sometimes the worst demons are the ones dwelling in our past, and it’s only after revisiting a childhood tragedy that David can truly begin the difficult task of setting himself free.

Martin is proving himself to be a top storyteller, as he's blended worlds of science, fantasy, religion and superstition into a meaningful tale.Planet Purgatory tells how David Eno must take the responsibility to "save your self". And yet to do so means accepting the help and love of others. David's adventures are wild and frightening, yet his growing resolution keeps the reader cheering for him the entire time. David makes mistakes, but if Rosie and Flea like him, he can't be bad.In the end, the theology of Planet Purgatory isn't fully sound, but you'll be thinking back to this book for years to come.

Enthralling and Brilliantly Creative By Elizabeth Horton-Newton, Author “Planet Purgatory” by Benedict Martin is filled with colorful characters that leap off the page even when you wish they wouldn’t. Chief protagonist David Eno is a character I alternately hated and loved. Sometimes I found him so frustrating I wanted to scream at him. At other times I wanted to put my arms around him. In a story rife with aliens, zombies, witches, demons, and things I’d never heard of, Martin manages to give his characters defined personalities. Making these characters even more interesting are the drawings scattered throughout the book giving them even more substance. David and his dog Rosie are revenants, they’d died and been revived by the SYS. SYS has also provided David with a powerful weapon, a gun. It’s an interesting accoutrement for a farmer. David is a very special kind of farmer; willing to go farther out into the fields to grow his crops. His most important crop is the sugar beet. It is from this plant that he makes “chikka”, an alcoholic type drink that he himself is addicted to along with his constant smoking of cigarettes. There is a family secret that neither David nor his parents want to acknowledge but it causes tension within the family. Stranger still, David has decided they are living in Purgatory. Events take place that cause David to set out on a long and potentially dangerous journey to seek help for Harkness. It’s on the journey he undertakes with faithful Rosie at his side that we meet an assortment of enthralling characters, some helpful and some deadly. This is a brilliant story that kept me up reading until the very end. Moments of horror are countered with moments of tenderness, skillfully weaving a story that I highly recommend.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. "It's the chikka, David!" By Booklover Benedict Martin is obviously a mad man who should be locked up, or at least forced to write more novels like this one. This is easily the most inventive novel I've read in a long time. Whales swimming underground, playful demons, badass imps, magical beet liquor, giant aliens with zombifying ray guns: it sounds crazy, but Martin makes it work.Despite all of the crazy imagery, Planet Purgatory follows a classic Hero's Journey. In order to save his town, David and his giant dog must travel to find the SYS headquarters to arm his community against a foul stranger that has then all by the short hairs. I never felt lost while reading, and Martin has a very clear and readable style. My only negative comes from the abrupt ending. I would've liked to have seen more of a denouement. But that's a small criticism against a fantastic story. Read this book. Read it twice.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great Lesson in Feelings By Caryn Daniel is not allowed to play with his friends because he has to go home to dinner. Rather than stopping their play, his friends continue without him. When his parents ask him what's wrong, Daniel admits that he feels left out and sad. They assure him that it's perfectly okay to feel that way and that he will gradually feel better. While this may seem like a tiny conflict to an adult, feeling sad and left out is a fact of life for many young children, and they do need to learn how to deal with such situations. Rather than shaming children for their natural feelings, this book acknowledges the hurt in an empathetic manner and reminds them that this feeling will not last forever. Because of the simple vocabulary and sentence structure, as well as the very young appearance of the protagonist, this one will likely find a larger audience with pre-schoolers and newer elementary students. I do wish it contained a few more coping strategies than giving it time and receiving hugs from understanding parents, but it's a good start.

Really great book series By Thomas Serface These days a lot of people are writing "children's" books mostly for adults and they are very nice, but really expensive and often complicated. Daniel books are inexpensive, great stories, good pictures, and really easy for small kids to understand. My granddaughter can't read, but she looks at the pictures and recalls the stories from when they were read to her almost pretending to read. We don't have to care about expensive book jackets getting ripped or keeping the kids books on shelves like trophies. These are just good old fashioned and fun books. They kind of remind me of the old Golden books.

New Adult College Romance; Contemporary Romance Adult language and situations. CARRIE After four years the nightmares still haunt me. I just started my freshmen year at the University of Virginia. My goals are to get the best grades I can, stay out of my mom’s way, and try to break out of the cage I’ve locked myself in. My first goal is going well so far. The second not so well. The third is the most surprising. This one guy seems to be the one person able to break through my walls. The buzz on campus is that he’s a player, but I have my own scandal I’m trying to shake off so I try not to listen to gossip, and he makes me feel good and laugh. I haven’t done that in so long. But the problem with coming out from behind my walls are that my issues come with me and he seems to be a trigger to my deepest ones. NIC I’m captain of UVA’s lacrosse team, good looking, and a trust fund baby. I’m not hurting for dates. Except I don’t date. Watching my parent’s, their cold manner toward me and each other, has me running in the other direction from relationships. I’m fine with get-in and get-out. The first time I met her I made excuses; to young, no money, too innocent. Three things I stay away from, so I walked away. The second time I wasn’t able to though. There was just something about her. It wasn’t difficult to see she had issues, but it didn’t stop me from wanting her. Before long I was immersed in her. But her issues are darker than I realized and it’s pulling her away from me. Will she let me fight for her? Do I have what it takes to hang on to her? Or will she crumble under the weight of it all. First book in the Endless Series. A stand alone. No cliff hanger. But there are more books to the series revolving around the other characters in the story. She's has issues from, because who wouldn't, but she hasn't let it define her or stop her from wanting to change her life for the better. She's pushing through. Nic's life is pretty darn good. He's rich, great-looking, on his college lacrosse team, and can have any woman he wants. Him and his father don't get along, and fight about what his future will be, but Nic isn't caving to his dads demands. He has his own plans. When these two meet they both feel something but Nic thinks she's too young, and Carrie just isn't looking. Nic can't get her out of his mind though and when he meets her again he has to find out more. They begin their relationship slow, but you can tell its going to be explosive. These two need each other, to sort of balance each other out. Nic is an awesome guy and is the sweetest with Carrie. And she needs some sweet. Carrie is still dealing with a lot of crap from her past, emotional and scandal wise. Nic isn't scared by it though. He fights. Love the book. Read it.

Boling The story of Corrie Ten Boom as related in her classic book The Hiding Place is one of those must read books. I was excited to receive an updated version of this book that is geared towards the young reader. Having a 13 year old daughter in our home, I am quite confident this condensed version will connect young minds with this timeless true life tale of faith, tragedy, and hope. While the regular version of The Hiding Place is not a tremendously hard read, providing a version that young people can enjoy and read through in a reasonably short amount of time is an excellent move on the part of the publisher. Quite frankly, I wish more publishers would take this same approach and condense more classic works for youth to enjoy. The story of Corrie Ten Boom is a heart-wrenching tale. Risking their lives to save Jews from the hands of the Nazi regime, the Ten Boom family is betrayed and Corrie is tossed into a concentration camp for daring to stand up against the Nazi atrocity. This is an important book even today. It speaks of the need to stand up in the face of evil, even if it means putting your own life in jeopardy. It speaks quite frankly of doing what is right even when all those around you are not.Throughout this version, there are well done black and white drawings that will provide the young mind with a bit of a picture of what was taking place. While some may not view such pictures as important to the overall story, for younger readers, it helps break up the chapters into more manageable sections, essentially giving them something to shoot for goal wise as they are reading. Kids often have shorter attention spans than adults (well sometimes) so short chapters with interspersed picture breaks is a great approach and will keep the young reader connected to the overall story.Furthermore, as a homeschool parent, this is a tool we will use when we get to this section of world history. The Hiding Place puts a needed personal connection for the reader to this period of history, making what took place more than just facts and figures in a history book. Understanding from the perspective of someone who endured the horror of the Nazi concentration camp is a vital teaching tool and we will definitely use this book as part of our teaching strategy when the time arises.I highly recommend this book for parents to read with their children, especially in relation to discussions about the Nazis or persecution in general. In the United States we are somewhat insulated from such things and The Hiding Place is a needed and sobering reminder of the horror of man’s inhumanity to their fellow man.I received this book for free from Chosen Books for this review. By Chris Gregory The Hiding Place is an enthralling autobiography of the World War II experiences of Corrie Ten Boom. Miss Ten Boom is a captivating writer and her story is truly inspirational. Her family was led by a meek, watch repairman. That patriarch was a devoted believer in the love of God and the scriptures, both old and new testaments. The book brought to my mind a tale of Harriet Tubman meets Anne Frank. After the German invasion of Holland, the Ten Booms hid Jews in their home and watch repair shop. They also became active members of the Dutch Resistance and made numerous connections between Jewish and Christian homes, an act similar to that of the Underground Railroad of the U.S. Civil War era.The activities of Corrie, her sister Betsie, and their father were eventually discovered, and they were imprisoned for their subversive actions. During captivity, they suffered great humiliation and pain, but they continued their mission to bring joy to those around them through the loving word of God. Throughout all the suffering, their belief remained strong, and Corrie's faith grew enormously. Although her sister and father died in prison, Corrie returned to their home and continued to help the less fortunate and preach the gospel. After the war, she toured Holland, Germany, all of Europe and finally the world, providing the people this message..."God's love and forgiveness is stronger than man's power ...stronger than the pain, suffering, and hardship of life!"I'm certain that some readers would find the opening chapters tedious and uninteresting, but I believe that the foundation provided in those chapters is necessary to the full understanding of the ten Boom tale. After reading this story, it is difficult to realize that people could be so hateful as were the Nazis. And too, it is incredible that people like Corrie ten Boom could forgive them for the Holocaust. However, she realized that forgiveness was not hers to offer; she was merely passing on the word that Christ was forgiveness and the redeemer. It is also difficult to comprehend that there are individuals, groups, and leaders, even now, proclaiming that Jews and Christians should die for their belief in His loving forgiveness. It is hard to understanding that there are still people who believe that the Holocaust was a fantasy. The Hiding Place is a moving and inspirational story, and I strongly recommend it! Vandenbosch Corrie Ten Boom has worked alongside her father and the rest of her family in a small watch shop on a quiet corner in a friendly city in the Netherlands her entire life. Change is fast approaching as rumors of war and eventually war itself reach her quiet life. God has big plans in store for her and her family though, as they risk their lives to hide Jews and other people on the run from the Nazis. A secret room constructed in their home serves as a hiding place for several years as they help numerous people. Until the day they are betrayed. Torn from their beloved home, the family is imprisoned, first in the Netherlands, and then in the dreaded concentration camps in Germany. Even in the darkest of hours, facing starvation, stark loneliness, illness and even death, Corrie does not give up and brings the light of Jesus Christ to the darkness, delivering hope where there was none before. This inspiring and gripping story written by Elizabeth and John Sherrill, as told to them by Corrie Ten Boom, covers Corrie's early life until the time of her death, with much of the book concentrating on the years that she and her family daringly hid Jews in their home and the time Corrie spent in German concentration camps. Corrie's, and her family's, unwavering faith in God for help and deliverance shine through every page of the story as their total reliance on the Lord led to incredible adventures, some heartbreaking and tragic. Besides being very well told, what makes this story so gripping is the knowledge that every detail happened. History unfolded before Corrie as she followed God's direction in her life and in doing so saved many people from certain death. I heartily recommend this story for young readers and adults alike.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the Chosen, a division of Baker Publishing Group book review bloggers program.
