Wodehouse was ninety years old when he published this, the second-to-last of the Bertie and Jeeves novels. Despite Wodehouse's advanced age, he managed to fill this book, also published as Jeeves and the Tie That Binds, with the sparkle and fun that characterizes all the Bertie and Jeeves novels. There is, of course, the usual cast. In addition to Bertie and Jeeves, Aunt Dahlia is present, as is her husband, Thomas Portarlington Travers. In addition, Roderick Spode (who is now Lord Sidcup), Madeline Bassett, Florence Craye, and Bingley, who filled in for Jeeves for a short time, join us from previous novels. A Bertie and Jeeves novel wouldn't be complete, of course, without an old school chum; in this case, it is Harold "Ginger" Winship, who is standing for the seat in the House of Commons for Market Snodsbury. Add in L.P. Runkle, Magnolia Glendennon, and Bertie's marvelous narration, and you have all the ingredients for a great Wodehouse farce, as Bertie preserves his bachelorhood and all else turns out for the best.

While I enjoyed the almost short story styling of The Inimitable Jeeves, I thoroughly enjoyed the cohesiveness of Much Obliged. Much Obliged starts with Bertie being invited to visit his Aunt Dahlia in Market Snodsbury. An old pal of Bertie's by the name of Harold "Ginger" Winship is a candidate for Parliament in the Snodsbury election. By this time, even a relatively new fan of Wodehouse, such as I am, can tell that trouble is brewing on the horizon. Enter Jeeves and the Junior Ganymede club book. The Junior Ganymede is a club of butlers; each member is obliged to write about his employer in the club book. This is done so that anyone seeking employment with a gentleman may look him up in the club book and, thus, know what they're in for. Of course, Bertie has an unusually large section in the club book. However, much to Bertie's surprise, Ginger also has quite a few damning pages in the club book as well. When the club book is stolen by a unethical, as well as repulsive, character by the name of Bingley, Ginger's chance of winning the Snodsbury election becomes uncertain and the hilarity begins. Again, another great book that leaves the reader shouting, "Good show!"

A Light But Entertaining Read By J.E.Robinson Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse (1881 to 1975) was a talented and prolific British comic writer of novels, short stories, plays, and musical comedies. He wrote 96 books, too many for most of us even to attempt to read from one author. The Jeeves and Wooster stories are among his most popular works. They are light reading and are purely fictional comedy - based on life in Britain around or before the WWI era. There are approximately 18 books in the Jeeves series plus some short stories. All the stories are narrated by the "the wealthy, scatterbrained" Bertie Wooster and feature his butler Jeeves as a steadying force. As pointed out by many others, "the plots are on the surface formulaic," but Wodehouse's genius lies in the ability to create a complicated web of characters and sub-plots that somehow have a happy ending. The plots often involve women, politics, and gambling. In many cases, a relative or a friend will create a situation which is inevitably solved through some unlikely and humorous set of events.Jeeves, the butler or valet, is the most intelligent character in the stories with a superior education and intellect, far ahead of Bertie and most of the others. He seems to be everywhere anticipating problems and providing solutions. These stories are referred to as the "Jeeves" works. Wodehouse has suggested that Jeeves was not completely fictional but was based on an actual butler called Eugene Robinson, who he employed for the purpose of study. According to the author, he extricated Wodehouse from a real-life predicament. In general, the books feature a humorous cast of characters with names that remind one of Dickens, such as Tuppy Glossop, Augustus (Gussie) Fink-Nottle, Bingo Little, Rev. Harold P. "Stinker" Pinker, Curate of Totleigh-in-the-Wold who plays rugby football, Freddie Widgeon, Harold Winship, who stands for parliament as the Conservative candidate in Market Snodsbury, Beefy Bingham, Parson in the East End, etc. This is a quick light read of a few hundred pages. I thought it was very entertaining and had many twists and turns - as Bertie extricates himself from a potentially bad marriage engagement.

THE DIARY OF KARA'S LIFE By Robin Leigh Morgan I found “Take a Piece of My Heart” by Diane Rose Duffy to be an almost true story of what happens to a young girl like Kara, who’s too young to really understand the true meaning of love. Kara, against her parent’s wishes decides to run off with a guy her parents had forbidden her to see and gets married to him; which only could have happened because of her youthful innocence. Before long she discovers the truth of what the adorable man she’d married is truly like, and the happy ever after she once thought she’d get is now merely a nightmare no woman wants to be in.Not only did the cad she married take a piece of her heart; he took quite a lot more from her. I believe her husband had taken almost everything from her, everything that is except for her will to survive and her determination to find solace somewhere far away from him. This is a story any woman who’s in an abusive relationship and has been able to escape from can relate to. Once Kara leaves her husband she gets on a roller coaster ride of emotions just like any another woman who has lived through the same ordeal. While I usually find 50+ chapters a bit excessive for a novel of this length; however, Ms. Duffy skillful use this number of chapters on her first outing as an author, makes it read like a diary of Kara’s existence with her husband, from when they first met, through her horrific life with him, her escape, to the journey in which she finds the happy ever after she has search so long for. It’s too bad I can only give this book 5 STARS, as it deserves more.

By Brenda Romine I received this book from the author in return for an honest review. This is a "New To me Author" and "New Author" in general really. Let me start off by simply saying....This "New Author" has a bright future in the book world!I was so impressed with this story,I could not put it down! What a great story! This story has everything you want in a good book. You have a great story line, drama,(what's a story without drama?)Great characters, fun and tons of good ole down to earth humor! I'm tellin'ya,Sadie and Krista are a hoot!! I just loved those two! And put those two in the same room together and you are in for a treat! The characters are all so down to earth and just as much fun as your true life friends. You really connect with these characters. You feel what they feel and it's like they are people you know in real life.I really connected with Kara and DJ from the start.Once I started reading this I was hooked. From the very first page!Kara is young teen girl at the beginning of the story.Falls hard the town bad boy and ends up marring him at young age against her parents wishes.Young, newly married, and disowned by her family Kara's start at life as an adult is quite rocky.A few months into her marriage with Danny becomes less than perfect.Danny becomes "That Guy".... You know the complete Butthead! He beats on Kara and just makes her life a living hell. After 13 years of his crap it finally breaks her down enough to leave him. From that point on the story really gets to rolling,I don't want to blab the story,I want you to read it!! I want you experience it.It is well worth your time to get into Kara's life and see how it all ends.I highly recommend this book you all!! You will love it.It's one of those stories that many people can relate with.Kudos to Diane Rose Duffy!! You off to a great start in the literary world!!

By Tiffany Williams "Who am I and what am I running from you ask? my name is Kara Salinger Morino, and I'm a thirty-two year old ignoramus who at the age of nineteen, made the most colossal mistake of my life."What a breath of fresh air!I could not put my kindle down because I was so caught up in the mind of Kara. This was an amazing debut book, and I am so honored to have read it.I was pulled in right from the start. I enjoyed the humor that Kara had even when her world was crumbling around her. This book pulls at your heartstrings so much. You find yourself wanting to reach in and hug her as she tries to live in the day to day life she feels stuck in.This story deals with the subject of domestic abuse. The author did a wonderful job letting us into the mind of a woman that has stayed strong her whole life under the hands of the ones that were supposed to love her."I was raised in an abusive home and married an abusive spouse. It was all I'd ever known."The charcter of Kara will always hold a piece of my heart. As the story unfolds and she takes charge of her life for the first time, you cheer her on and want to keep pushing her forward. You watch her become the woman she always knew she could be, but was afraid to."I am a firm believer that when one chapter closes in your life, another will begin. I am determined that this chapter beginning will lead me to what I have been searching for. My hopes are for a bright light at the end of this long, dark tunnel."But don't think this story is all heartbreaking and sad, because it is far from it. Yes, there are moments that make you want to shed a tear or two, but overall it's just a story of discovery. I loved the way Kara's mind worked. How she brought humor into everything and how blunt she was. I could see her being my friend! My favorite part about this book is when her past meets her present. I'm not telling secrets because you should read it for yourself;) But let me tell you, it's a perfect circle in the twisted life Kara was given. True love is always worth the wait. This book was everything I thought it would be and more! Overcoming abuse is not easy, but there is always someone out there to help. Kara found out that there is a light at the end of that dark tunnel.Wonderful debut novel!!! Can't wait to read more from Diane Rose Duffy!!"Family is where the heart is."

The main message of this fictional story based on facts is both heartfelt and encouraging. It really opened my eyes to all the truths the mainstream media is hiding from us and how incredibly important these hidden truths are to both us and our country. I loved the interaction between the characters and especially the subtle budding romance between Samantha and John. The story unfolds suspensefully with a lot of surprises along the way that really keep you guessing. This is a great story with an important and timely message that will be enjoyed by both christians and non christians alike. Read it, you'll be glad you did!

She is able to keep the reader engaged in a very well written story and at the same time puts in truths about Christianity and Islam. From the first chapter she gets the readers attention. It was a hard book to put down. When I wasn't reading I kept wondering what would happen next. Her characters became very real and I found myself rooting for them.

With lush, beautiful watercolors and cut-paper collage, Christie Matheson reveals the magic of the nighttime sky, using the same kinds of toddler-perfect interactive elements as her acclaimed Tap the Magic Tree. Wave good-bye to the sun, gently press the firefly, make a wish on a star, rub the owls on their heads, and . . . shhhh. No two readings of this book will be the same. That along with the gentle, soothing rhythm, makes Touch the Brightest Star a bedtime winner—no matter how many times you and your child read it.

Touch the Brightest Star, by Christie Matheson

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 1—Matheson follows up her Tap the Magic Tree (Greenwillow, 2013) with a sunset to sunrise journey through the nighttime sky. As before, readers are invited to interact with the story using a motion, thought, or words that provoke a change with every turn of the page. First fireflies, a deer, stars, and constellations appear, then a full moon and owls take their turn. All is finally still until the first light of dawn, when the magic of the day returns. The simple text is engaging and conversational and little ones responding to each prompt are not likely to be distracted by the occasional faulty rhyme. The mixed-media collage art features a palette of blues as gentle and warm as a summer evening. Full-page illustrations evoke the expanse of space while the nearly transparent earthly creatures enhance the peaceful ambiance of this magical reading experience. Those who are interested in the science behind the magic will enjoy the final page, which provides some basic information about the nocturnal world depicted. VERDICT A charming bedtime story.—Lynn Van Auken, Oak Bluffs School, Oak Bluffs, MA

Review “A charming bedtime story.” (School Library Journal)“A nocturnal companion to Matheson’s Tap the Magic Tree (2013), this interactive picture book illuminates nighttime’s wonders. . . . An implicit sense of power (and even a hint of magic) follows each page turn. . . . A delightful bedtime book.” (Kirkus Reviews)“This exploration of the word at night should be inviting to even the very youngest children, who will also enjoy its imagination-fueled and child-powered interactivity.” (The Horn Book)Praise for Tap the Magic Tree:“Proves you don’t need apps for interactivity. … You can imagine this book wearing out after repeated tapping, swishing, counting and shaking, but you won’t ever have to recharge its battery.” (New York Times)“The conceit of this clever picture book is that the changing seasons occur as if by magic. Readers are shown a bare brown tree and are implored to, “Tap it once. Turn the page to see.” As they do, green leaves appear. . . .Simply a treasure to behold.” (School Library Journal)“Although simple in presentation with ample white space, the artwork provides a glorious rendition of the four seasons of a tree. No iPad is needed to make this interactive book totally satisfying.” (Booklist)“Take an apple tree through the seasons by tapping, brushing, shaking, and clapping. . . . It’s a good on-the-way-to-bed activity.” (Publishers Weekly)“Matheson invites readers to take an apple tree through a seasonal round using taps and page turns in place of touch-screens. . . . A universal theme, developed in an unusually clean, simple presentation.” (Kirkus Reviews)

In this beautiful book full of colorful, full page illustrations that look like a soft, watercolor with minimal details like a white birch tree and and animal or two a bedtime story takes on a whole new feel. The sentence on the page asks you to rub an owls head, tap the sky beside the tree, blink your eyes, and more. This is a wonderful, gentle, loving way to put a child to sleep and I believe children and parents will look forward to reading this nightly. It's as if you are saying goodbye to the world around you for the night followed by a black page that just says Shhhhhh and the last, a start to a whole new, glorious day. What we love:The illustrations. Nice subdued, minimal, whimsical, adorable. There are no stimulating pictures to wake tired minds up.The instructions provide easy listening skills that make for subtle interactions so your little one feels they are contributing to the storytelling.Dream like passages and illustrations ease the mind into rest mode with the gradual change from daytime to nighttime. We believe this will quickly become a family tradition that you and your little one will enjoy before bed.

This is a sweet, relaxing, feel good introduction to the night time world that will make any young reader feel ready for bed, and probably their parents as well! This book features many of the same sort of interactive elements that were present in Tap the Magic Tree, however this time, the palette is softer, the movements are broader and more comforting, and the overall feel is one of muted charm.Kids will get to wave good-bye to the sun and fill the sky with stars. They will pat the head of a deer, and trace the big and little dippers with their fingers. Who can resist the instruction to rub an owl on his head? The command to breathe deeply and "Nod your head if you feel sleepy" intro a totally black two page spread accompanied by a simple line of text: "Shhhh." The book ends with the promise that "When you open your eyes again....the magic of the day begins."This book will find its best audience at bedtime, however I look forward to trying it out for a toddler bedtime themed story time. The simple text, and the smooth read aloud flow only add to the magic, and I feel that anytime you see a book that invites a reader to swipe the page to fill it with stars and touch the fireflies to light the sky, the book world has scored a victory over those interactive apps. Touch The Brightest Star is not only an enthusiastic recommend, it also joins my list of best picture books of the year.

Each rhyming two page spread progressively takes the reader from sunset to sunrise. Readers are encouraged to participate physically with the book. In the beginning, you are asked to "wave good-bye" to the sun. Fireflies show up to be pressed and light up the sky. Create a breeze by blowing and pat a deer that is wandering by. Touch the sky and a star appears. Find the brightest star and make a wish. Trace the Big and Little Dippers with your finger and rub an owl's head before sending them off to bed. Now close your eyes because you are getting sleepy too.Touch the Brightest Star is a great way to cap the day with a toddler. The interactivity of the book will be a big hit. Just be prepared to do everything in order and don't you dare skip a step. Your toddler will call you on the carpet. The illustrations are beautiful and will lead to discussions about animals and the stars. Information in the back matter will further illuminate those discussions. This book is an excellent companion to Matheson's Tap the Magic Tree. I will warn you that you may need to buy two copies because one of them will be loved to pieces.
