By seasnowblue The Engagement PartyThis is a book that is light and witty (a very original wit) whilst at the same time showing an incredible insight into the different dimensions of human nature - including the less pleasant ones - of both men and women (the author is a man and but he certainly knows how we women think!). The story is engrossing from beginning to end - I could not put the book down. Can't wait to read the author's next book!

The Engagement Party By revistar The Engagement Party is a thoroughly delightful, lighthearted look at an extended family-to-be as they prepare and then meet for the first time at the engagement party of their children & stepchildren. The characters are each introduced through a witty series of vignettes in which their personal thoughts and unique perspectives are revealed. Cleverly done, this is a humorous and engaging book you'll want to read straight through from beginning to end.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The Modern life of "The Engagement Party" by RJ Gould By Jane Levene I really loved this book! It completely held my interest, and I read it in just a day and a half. The characters were very interesting and mostly likeable, and made me want to follow what was going to happen next in their lives. I appeciated the well-written ending. I am a tough person to please in terms of books, and a pet peeve of mine is when a well-written book holds my interest only to run out of gas right before the end! Yours did not. I have the added benefit (and this added to the enjoyment of reading your book) of having lived the split/step/married/age difference life so I absolutely loved every page and character.

Book 3 in the Remembering Raven series is now available!

Raven LeClaire is starting to move past the two horrible murders that have targeted her Tarot reading clients. Although she has vowed to stay actively involved with solving these highly puzzling deaths, she is finally allowing herself to get closer to the handsome Viktor Thorssen. The two of them feel the centuries old connection between them and have given into everything that sort of bond brings with it. Raven’s best friend and business partner, Allegra Canelle, has been acting like a school girl since she has met the elusive and mysterious Philippe. Because of her relationship with him, Allegra has been shirking all of her responsibilities including holding up her end of things at The Little Shop of Secrets. She agrees to sell her half of the shop to Raven so that she can be free to spend more time with Philippe. Raven is finally beginning to be truly happy in life. She has a thriving business that she can now call her own. Viktor and she had a relationship filled with both undying love and passion. Not only that, but she has recalled much of their previous life together in the 14th century. Not everything is happy, though. She has seen danger ahead for Allegra as well as a new Tarot client and neither of the women will listen to her. When tragedy does strike seemingly without warning, Viktor makes a decision that will change the lives of all of them. Believing that he is doing the right thing, he is not fully prepared for the reaction that he gets from Raven. Whatever else may happen, however, Viktor is determined not to lose the love of his life – his soul mate – ever again. No matter what it takes to keep them together, he will do it.

Interview with the Author:

Q – So, what makes the Remembering Raven series special? A – It’s a mixture of things, actually. When I started writing these books, I wanted to create a series of books that I would love to read. I love paranormal romances and vampire love stories, but I also love books with some action and a strong female character. I tried to roll of these interests into one series. The Remembering Raven books are a mix of romance, sex, longing, occult, and mystery. I also tried to create some really memorable supporting characters too, that I hope readers will enjoy. Q – What order should I read the books in? A – If you want to read the series in order, I’d suggest the following sequence: - Cheyenne (Book 1) - Always Mine (Prequel – although this can be read at anytime) - Sabine (Book 2) - Allegra (Book 3) - Nanette (Book 4) - Juliana (Book 5) Thanks for reading!

Wessel As an avid reader, it's exceptionally rare that I find myself unable to finish a book, let alone a whole series that I've invested my time into. This is one of those exceptions where at 75% through it the torture became unbearable. The lack of editing is usually not that big of a deal, as I realize a lot of the ebooks on Amazon are being self-published and the author may not be able to afford to have their work professionally edited - but this was taking it to another level where it was burdensome to try and get through each page...besides the storyline being incredibly boring and redundant the dialogue between the characters came across stiff, wooden and completely juvenile. It's a story that I can in no way recommend.

Even though it is the third book in the series, it still made since. However, I feel that it would be even better if read in order. It was very action packed. I can't wait to read the next one. I am definitely going to read the first two. Getting information out of Victor was like pulling teeth from a chicken. I'm glad Raven is giving him help.lol. Apparently, they are soulmates and always have been in other lifetimes.

The problem is that I read a book a day so it is hard some times to remember every thing about a book. So I usually go back and read other people's reviews and then it usually triggers my memory about the book. Not so this time, it left me confused. Most of the customers only mentioned one book, as if that was the only book that they had read--and yet, this review was suppose to be for the 4 book collection! And it was not always the same book that customers were reviewing--if they had the collection they didn't mention that the book they were reviewing was part of a collection. That being said I will tell you what I do remember about this collection. The whole series is based on a physic named Raven, who also owns an occult shop, and a handsome detective named Viktor. Together they solve mysteries, and all the while Viktor is holding back on his feelings for Raven. He has to--because of his dark secret that he is afraid for Raven to find out. She can know the secret just as long as she remembers it on her own.To give you an idea how good this series was, after I read book 1 of the series I instantly went out and bought the whole collection of 4 books. I don't normally buy that many books at once but I knew that as I finished each one I was going to want to go right into the next book--with no waiting! If you like paranormal books and mysteries, you will love this series.

From the Publisher This book is a standard print version using a minimum of 10 point type in a 6 by 9 inch size and perfect bound - a paperback. As with all Quiet Vision print books, it use a high grade, acid free paper for long life.

About the Author Mark Twain, born Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was an American humorist and writer, who is best known for his enduring novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which has been called the Great American Novel. Raised in Hannibal, Missouri, Twain held a variety of jobs including typesetter, riverboat pilot, and miner before achieving nationwide attention for his work as a journalist with The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. He earned critical and popular praise for his wit and enjoyed a successful career as a public speaker in addition to his writing. Twain s works were remarkable for his ability to capture colloquial speech, although his adherence to the vernacular of the time has resulted in the suppression of his works by schools in modern times. Twain s birth in 1835 coincided with a visit by Halley s Comet, and Twain predicted, accurately, that he would go out with it as well, dying the day following the comet s return in 1910.

A companion to "Extracts From Adam's Diary" By DWD's Reviews "Eve's Diary" and "Extracts from Adam's Diary" are often sold together but they were not originally published together. "Adam's Diary" is a must read before you read this one, in my opinion because "Eve's Diary" is really just supplemental to "Adam's"."Adam's Diary" is also the superior work - it is much funnier, contains many more entries and is truly a stand-alone work. However, they really are intended to be read as a set so go ahead and get them both.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Eve's Diary: Mark Twain's tiny masterpiece, banned no longer By John Williamson Only someone with such a splendid sense of humor and a joy for life as Mark Twain could have pulled this off... but there's a story behind the story, and another one beyond that, so read on.Eve's Diary is an entertaining, truly delightful piece written in the style of a diary kept by the first woman, Eve. This Kindle version has all of the illustrations that were done by Lester Ralph. Originally published in the 1905 Christmas issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine, it was popular enough to be subsequently published in book format in June 1906 by the Harper & Brothers publishing house. You'll see the red cover of that first edition posted by this reviewer in the images here.Mark Twain was 70 at the time of the initial publication of this story, and his works in his later years were inclined to be somewhat critical and even vitriolic. But this little story was warm, heartfelt, and emotional. He had suffered the loss of his much-loved wife Livy in 1904, and it's clear that he had reflected on his married existence in Eve's Diary as his own private Eden with Livy. Through his words we see the `first woman' to be more open, candid and seemingly smarter than her companion, and his life was all the better for her being there.Mark Twain wrote the story in the style of a diary kept by Eve, the first woman in the Judeo-Christian creation. It's claimed by the author to have been "translated from the original MS." The storyline of Twain's novel is the first-person account of Eve from her creation up to her burial by her mate, Adam, including meeting and getting to know him, and exploring the world around her, the Garden of Eden. The following is posted here not as a spoiler but as a teaser, and is the first entry of Eve's diary:"SATURDAY. -- I am almost a whole day old, now. I arrived yesterday. That is as it seems to me. And it must be so, for if there was a day-before-yesterday I was not there when it happened, or I should remember it. It could be, of course, that it did happen, and that I was not noticing. Very well; I will be very watchful now, and if any day-before-yesterdays happen I will make a note of it. It will be best to start right and not let the record get confused, for some instinct tells me that these details are going to be important to the historian some day. For I feel like an experiment, I feel exactly like an experiment; it would be impossible for a person to feel more like an experiment than I do, and so I am coming to feel convinced that that is what I AM--an experiment; just an experiment, and nothing more."In this Kindle edition, that journal entry is placed it's placed between two of Lester Ralph's beautifully rendered black and white line drawings. The story goes on and then jumps forty years into the future after the fall and expulsion from Eden. This one of a string of books that Twain wrote concerning the tale of Adam and Eve, including 'Extracts from Adam's Diary,' 'That Day In Eden,' 'Eve Speaks,' 'Adam's Soliloquy,' and the 'Autobiography of Eve.' `Eve's Diary' was a short companion piece to his earlier comic story `Extracts from Adam's Diary,' a light comical burlesque on the Book of Genesis. But there's more to the story than this. The original book version of the story was published with 55 illustrations by Lester Ralph, and they depicted Eve and Adam in their natural settings... in other words, in their birthday suits. Some considered the depiction of an unclothed woman obscene when the book was first released in the United States, and that resulted in a controversy around the book. Then The New York Times posted an article dated November 24, 1906, noting that `'Eve's Diary' had been among 100 books bought for the Charlton Public Library in Massachusetts, and had been barred by Frank O. Wakefield, one of the Trustees. The other Trustees concurred with him. The librarian, Mrs. Hattie L. Carpenter, had looked through it, and had brought this book to his attention. As the Times reported:"After looking long and earnestly at on picture depicting Eve pensively reclining on a rock, Mr. Wakefield decided to act."When contacted about this event, Mark Twain responded: "The action of the Charlton library was not of the slightest interest to me."But the banned book story doesn't end there. On September 21, 2011, the New York Times ran an article stating that after 105 years `Eve's Diary' was back on the shelf. Richard Whitehead, a new library trustee at that same library happened to stumble on the old forgotten controversy about the book. As the article reported:"More than a century later, Mr. Whitehead and his fellow trustees voted unanimously (with one of the six absent) on Tuesday to lift the ban and bring `Eve's Diary' back to their brick library on Main Street. Two copies of the book -- with Mr. Ralph's illustrations, which now seem quite chaste -- were put into circulation on Wednesday, as was an audio version for those who prefer to conjure their own images."Even better, the library made the book the focus of their exhibit for national Banned Book Week, which started that weekend. And now you can enjoy your own copy of Mark Twain's banned book right here. Though there's no table of contents, this is a nicely formatted Kindle edition, and the publishers should be commended for keeping the original version intact... just as it was when the late library trustee Frank Wakefield opened the red cover of Eve's Diary over a century ago, and after looking "long and earnestly" at the picture that depicted "Eve pensively reclining on a rock," and he decided to act, obviously in the public welfare.Something tells me that the ghost of Mark Twain had a good laugh over that.10/3/2012

This narrative goes well beyond the mere experience of surviving death. It describes the process of reassembly into a new body. It then continues with the details of daily life and what you'll be doing. It goes on to describe the celestial personalities you will encounter and work with. Learn of the correction of those things we failed to accomplish here, whether of our own making or from unfortunate heredity and environment. It's like finding a family you were unaware of - a heavenly one. This account ends with graduation from the mansion worlds, having achieved what we spend this lifetime pursing:  a balanced personality with a soul of nobility - "one together person." The source of this information is from The Urantia Book. For those not already familiar with it, it is an epochal revelation of Deity, the cosmos, the history of our world, and the life of Jesus.

Life After Death: a step by step account of what comes next, by Richard Rosen

Review My friend and a regular blog reader and commenter, Richard Rosen, has spent much of his lifetime studying, exploring, gaining insight and expounding on the spiritual facet of humans. He's just released a new book, Life After Death: a step by step account of what comes next. This is not a religious book endorsing any denomination, doctrine, dogma or religious approach. It's a spiritual book exploring our spiritual lives, which I believe we all have whether we accept that premise or not. Ed Helvey, 2 Live Freely LivingAndWorkingFree.blogspot.com

From the Author Why did you  write this book? We each come differently to wonder about what comes after this life. I met a woman, Paula,  while we were waiting for cars to be serviced, who had buried two husbands. She said, It made me think about what happens next. As people get  older, she reflected, they tend to think about the next life. I  seem to have met a lot of these folks lately. Indeed, there is a lot of interest. And it clearly came to me that this is the subject of my next  book. This is a sampling  of what you will learn: Do you continue  as the same person or are you reincarnated as someone else? The personality bestowed by the Father is the means by which you are given a unique identity.  It remains with you throughout eternity. You do not return as another person; you've already done your work on this world and provision has been made to continue  where you left off in the next. Does everyone go  to heaven? Yes, but with this exception: The person who has chosen a life of moral bankruptcy and spiritual  insolvency has rejected survival. He has died spiritually, although his mortal  self will live out its years. There is no resurrection. His personality is absorbed into the oversoul of creation. Must I remain  with my husband or wife? Whether or not married partners continue a relationship is determined by each. There must be  genuine basis for relationship. Like magnetism, disparities of personal characteristics distance people and likeness draws them together. Does dementia  affect your experience after death? The human brain dies with its material body. A new mind  originating in the cosmic mind is inserted into the body prepared for it. A  person continues exactly as he was before his mind could no longer make  decisions of moral import.

From the Back Cover People increasingly want to know what comes next. Discover  the details of everyday life, how you spend your time, the purpose of this life  and how to prepare for the next. Read the stories of Jim, Sandy and Junior as they pass from this life onto the next. You will learn:

I found this book insightful. I enjoyed reading it. In the end, I felt encouraged to continue on my spiritual quest here on Earth. I ended with a sense of peace as I felt encouraged to trust in the process of spiritual growth and being guided by a loving Father.

Putting the dead in deadline To Bee or not to Bee? When the widely disliked Honeywell Stingers football coach is found murdered, 17-year-old Millie is determined to investigate. She is chasing a lead for the school newspaper – and looking to clear her father, the assistant coach, and prime suspect.

Millie's partner is gorgeous, smart—and keeping secrets Millie joins forces with her mysterious classmate Chase who seems to want to help her even while covering up secrets of his own.

She’s starting to get a reputation…without any of the benefits. Drama—and bodies—pile up around Millie and she chases clues, snuggles Baxter the so-ugly-he’s-adorable bassett hound, and storms out of the world’s most awkward school dance/memorial mash-up. At least she gets to eat a lot of pie.

Best-selling author Beth Fantaskey’s funny, fast-paced blend of Clueless and Nancy Drew is a suspenseful page-turner that is the best time a reader can have with buried weapons, chicken clocks, and a boy who only watches gloomy movies…but somehow makes Millie smile. Bee-lieve it.

From School Library Journal Gr 7–10—Millie Ostermeyer writes for her school newspaper, hangs out with her friends, worries about her widowed father, and wonders about the new guy at school. She's a lot like her literary heroine, Nancy Drew. Millie and her mother would read the mysteries together, while the latter was dying of cancer, and now the books have a special meaning as the teen tries to deal with her grief. When the head football coach at her school is found dead, Millie's detective skills kick into high gear. The list of possible suspects is long, since Coach Killdare was not everyone's favorite person. Unfortunately, the number one suspect is Millie's father, Killdare's assistant coach—who often very publicly disagreed with the victim. As Millie investigates, she uncovers some surprising facts about all of the suspects, including her own dad. As Chase helps her look for clues, they soon become friends, taking tentative steps toward a romance. The mystery climaxes with the sudden revelation of the murderer, a character no one had even considered. The narrative emulates the "Nancy Drew" series (Penguin) formula: short chapters with cliff-hangers endings. This novel is more character driven, as the heroine works through her feelings about her mother's illness and death. For readers who want a solid mystery with a dollop of romance.—Diana Pierce, formerly at Leander High School, TX

From Booklist When student reporter Millie finds the dead body of the football team’s coach, she is determined to beat rival reporter Vivienne to the story, especially since Viv keeps writing articles implicating Millie’s dad: the assistant coach, mayor, and now lead suspect. Coach Killdare wasn’t popular, though, and Millie’s suspects encompass everyone from the pushover principal to the furious former quarterback. One of these suspects, current QB and handsome enigma Chase, also seems to be investigating, despite Millie’s attempts to shake him off. Unconventional Millie is beleaguered by the impossible standards set by her idol, Nancy Drew, who did everything with class and manners. Examples: Nancy Drew wouldn’t tell off a police officer, question suspects while wearing a stained T-shirt, or eat pie with her hands while in the company of a cute boy. That Millie does—and with enthusiasm—is what makes her so delightful. Fantaskey’s funny murder mystery, with multiple red herrings and suspenseful cliff-hangers, is a breeze to read, but watching Millie steamroll those in her way as she solves the murder is the real treat. Grades 9-12. --Krista Hutley

Review "Buzz Kill is a smart chick-lit mystery with plenty of twists and turns."—VOYA "The fun comes from Millie's spunky sleuthing and Fantaskey's witty, cliffhanger chapter endings, which leave readers begging to turn the page. If only Nancy Drew had this much excitement solving her cases."—Kirkus "For readers who want a solid mystery with a dollop of romance."—School Library Journal * "A quirky cast and Millie's quasi-bumbling antics make Fantaskey's murder mystery a breezy and thoroughly entertaining read. It's easy to get swept up in the buildup to the exciting final confrontation."—Publishers Weekly, starred review "Fantaskey's funny murder mystery, with multiple red herrings and suspenseful cliff-hangers is a breeze to read, but watching Millie steamroll those in her way as she solves the murder is the real treat."—Booklist "Fans looking for a less prim and proper Nancy Drew (and a few more lustful kisses) will find her here."—Bulletin

Some of Fantaskey’s other books include JESSICA’S GUIDE TO DATING ON THE DARK SIDE, JESSICA RULES THE DARK SIDE and JEKEL LOVES HYDE. The author currently lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and her three daughters.BUZZKILL features Millie Ostermeyer, a 17-year-old who loves to write and read Nancy Drew novels. Millie hates sports, especially football, but she suspects some foul play happening at her high school. She starts to write a list of people that despise Coach Killdare and she eventually comes up with a genuine murder mystery on her hands. Once she realizes something has gone awry at school, she gets out her notebook and begins reporting.Chase Albright is the star football jock. He is almost fluent in French, a straight A student, and very close with Coach Killdare. Millie has a huge crush on Chase, but she puts her feelings aside after she sees him regularly visiting Coach Killdare’s home. She believes that he may be one of the suspects in this murder mystery she is trying to crack. But, there is a huge bump in the road for Millie --- the head cheerleader Vivienne Fitch is on to this case as well, and she isn’t backing down. The race is on; Millie and Viv go head-to-head and they will do anything to solve this gruesome murder mystery, even if that means putting their own lives on the line. This book is perfect for fans of NANCY DREW, HARRIET THE SPY, and even Poe’s tales. Fantaskey has you continuously guessing on who the culprit is while leaving you with deadly cliffhangers at the end of each chapter. BUZZKILL is suitable for teens 13 years old and up. Reading BUZZKILL is like playing an intense game of Clue; there are surprises around every corner. So make sure you have your notebook handy!

You can have your heroine read and admire Nancy Drew books. Heck, you can even put in a running bit about what Nancy Drew meant to your heroine and her Mom, (as happens in this book). You do not, however, want to write an actual Nancy Drew book. I've reread a few recently, and they are earnest, proper and almost stately in design and execution. Long stretches are dry and mannered. Some read as though they were attempts by Henry James to write a YA novel. That's fine as far as it goes; maybe it's even sort of noble, but it's a hard sell.So you go modern girl hero. The danger here is where do you draw the line on snark, angst and dreamy boy crushing? I've also read some teen detective books recently in which the heroine is so nasty, so self involved and such a drama queen that you secretly hope she ends up one of the murderer's victims and the book is finished by the bad guy. That's why this book shines and seems so widely well liked. Our heroine is funny, self-aware, vulnerable, feisty, stubborn, loyal, romantic, practical, and articulate. She is a thoroughly modern Nancy Drew with just the right blend of smartz, attitude, and gumption to touch all of the old-fashioned bases in a present day style. Now, you drop this perfectly winning character into a reasonably well plotted mystery and watch the sparks fly. The bonus is that the author has a pretty sly sense of humor and an engaging insight into teen behavior, which means you get some funny, cutting or just believable narrative asides and character behavior. That makes the whole high school mystery project just that much more engaging and rewarding. So, you have an appealing heroine, decent secondary characters, a couple of funny set pieces, an interesting plot, a few clever and novel angles, and some snappy writing. Works for me.Please note that I found this book while browsing my local library's Kindle ebook goodies. I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.

Nancy Drew updated for todays teen mystery lovers By Neal Reynolds This is a fun mystery with a sassy heroine taylored for teens who love mystery. A football coach everyone hates is murdered and chief suspects include our heroine's father and the star player she has a crush on. Educated by her complete set of Nancy Drew mysteries, she's out to find the killer. It's no spoiler to say that indeed she does and there's lots of fun on the way to the solution.Beth Fantaskey is in top form here with wit and a cunning style that should definitely capture YA readers. There are misleading clues and red herrings galore. Highly recommended.

I've decided that the creative arts are not for me. I still can't boil spaghetti and I think there's an arrest warrant out against me for public indecency. So onward now to a new challenge - running a marathon.

I've decided that there will be safety in numbers. And no matter how ridiculous I look in lycra, I can't look any worse than the guy in the galloping urinal, or the other guy dressed as a demented hen. Well, at least I hope not. Maybe I'll use them as pacemakers.

So I'll burst through that starting line full of enthusiasm, knowing I could beat a galloping urinal any day of the week. Or will I be in a one-woman race? I do have a track record for beating myself, you know.

Sam is a great lead. With her blog entries, I think she finds the boost to keep herself going. Stephanie is also a great character. I've enjoyed the growing friendship between her and Sam. I'm not sure how I feel about her and Max though. Mainly because I want Sam to get her happily ever after. But I'll just wait and see. I look forward to reading more.
